Planning to buy an unlocked iphone 5 here in the US from a very reputable vendor on Ebay.. I will be returning to Israel and want to use it with an existing SIM card/data plan I have with Pelephone, one of Israel's 3 largest, iphone-friendly networks (it is GSM). Would this unlocked iphone 5 work in Israel with the existing SIM?

Get the model number to verify the LTE Support as mentioned by Deggie, and make sure you have contact info for the Reputable vendor in case Activation Lock comes into play.

Since FaceTime is banned & removed from all iPhones sold from official sources in the UAE, if purchased from an official source, your phone won't have FaceTime & there's no way to add it back.
If your phone does have FaceTime, that means it's a grey market import, & could have originated from who knows where, & may have been hacked to unlock it.

Hi! I've been thinking of buying an iphone 5s/5c (haven't decided yet) from Apple in the US and bring it home to Israel.
I took a look at the prices and saw the huge difference between the Carriers-iphones and the Unlocked ones.
I would really like to know weather I have to get the Unlocked iphone if I would like to use it in Israel, or is it possible to purchase one
that belongs to a certain carrier (AKA the cheaper one...)

The iPhone is unlikely to work on 4G( LTE) although an unlocked iPhone will work on 3G
There is no warranty outside the US on a US purchased iPhone .The warranty is NOT international
So for any warranty or post warranty service you would have to take the iPhone to the US or send it to a friend who is willing to carry in for you

I've never had a smartphone. I'm thinking of buying the unlocked iphone 3gs to use when I'm in the UK 2-3 (months a year). I would be using a pay as you go sim with a little data use included. All I need is the ability to call, text, email, blog, and check facebook. Would this phone be a good choice for me. I'm hearing that there are some problems with battery life on the iphone 4. Does the 3gs have those issues? Also what does the 's' stand for?

Unlocked iPhones bought in US, function with foreign operator?

Hi,
If I buy an unlocked iPhone in the US, will I be able to use it with my european operator in Europe? I know in the pas there were some issues with it but from what I understand it has now been resolved. I prefere to ask as the unlocked phones are sold through an American operator (T-mobil).

There is no unlocked iPhone 6 sold through T-Mobile in the US. No such phone exists.
The difference is that the T-Mobile phone is contract free/sim free, but this is NOT the same as unlocked. If you want an unlocked phone from the US then you will have to wait at least a couple of months until they are available.
Anyway, if you live in France and want to use the phone in France, why on earth are you even considering buying the phone in the US? If you live in France this just does not make sense. Buy it in France and you will then have full EU warranty, which you would not have if you purchased the phone in the US - iPhone warranty is not international, but country specific. You will also have full 4G compatibility with the French networks, which you would not get with a US phone.
Bottom Line: If you want to use the phone in France, then buy it in France - this is a no brainer!!

HI I bought 5s last Nov and used it in China right. And it has some problem with the screen. Can I use the warantty to repair the 5s in China?

Apple will NOT repair a US-purchased (made in China) iPhone in China even if you offer to pay for the repair. They must protect their hardware sales by asking you to purchase separate phones for each country you spend significant time in. If you spend 6 months in China and 6 months in US, two phones is the only solution they offer because, as I was told at the Apple Store this morning, "Apple is not a global company."

The GM of our company has an older iPhone that was originally used on the Rogers network. Due to service coverage issues, he had to switch to Bell. He now wants to give this phone to his son for personal use on the Bell network. I need to unlock the phone first, yes? If it is truly unlocked, yes. Note, though, that you would get no warranty or other support for a US-sold iPhone in the UK. Should it ever need service, you'd have to send the iPhone to someone you know in the US to get it serviced. So think hard before you decide to purchase a US iPhone.

Hi one of my friend is bringing me an iphone 5s to India.. yayy
it would be factory unlocked and will be purchased from apple store.
my primary concerns are do i need to activate iphone via itunes(or is it ready to use).
And do i need to have a backup file of an iphone(for first time activation) . Because this is my first iphone and i do not have an iphone backup file.
But i do have an ipad. Will the ipad backup work to restore(for activation)
Or is it that iphone is ready to use out of the box?

You can use the device normally in India just bear in mind that if the device need a repair for any reason the phone can only be set up to repair in a US Apple Retail Store or Authorised Reseller.
You can still contact Indian Apple Care line at (91) 1800 4250 744 for phone support, but setting up to repair require the phone to be serviced in the country of purchase.

Unbelievable. I've had problems with the iPhone before but this is just ridiculous. I've seen other complaints about this, yet there's no bug fix. The only "help" I can find to get back into my phone is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212. So far, the instructions aren't working since everything requires the now useless pass code. Apparently, I should have used ESP to know this would happen and not check the encrypt box. Now I need my pass code to restore my last back up (the one that doesn't work). Important: I did not forget my pass code and I am not entering the wrong one. I just used my phone a few hours ago, but when I tried to use it later my iphone would not accept my pass code. I can't even wipe it clean at this point. So I'm pretty much stuck with a piece of expensive trash. Thanks a lot Apple. Next time I'll buy a different smart phone. iPhones have way too many problems and I'm tired of losing my info and wasting time trying to fix your mistakes. iTunes won't restore and I won't use iCloud after my contacts list went to someone else's phone after a backup.
Strangely, iTunes did an automatic backup AFTER I got this message:
iTunes could not back up the iPhone "my name" because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iphone before it can be backed up. (Try again) or (Cancel).
I'm at a loss...and I hate you Apple.

Thanks for the advice Ocean20, but I didn't have my stuff backed up to iCloud. I had my contact information go to someone else's phone on the same account and that caused some problems, since he had access to my personal information.
I did get back into my iPhone, but the only way to do it was to wipe it clean. When I tried to restore my last backup from iTunes, it only restored the apps, not the data stored. I don't think there is a solution to this problem. I'm afraid to use the pass code lock now and I have sensitive, personal info on it. I just hope Apple fixes it soon.

All supported carriers require a data plan with the iPhone.
If your carrier will permit it, you can put a Micro-SIM in the phone that does not have a data plan. Make sure, however, that you turn off mobile (cellular) data in settings or you're going to potentially rack up some serious charges. Not to mention tha fact that you are in effect, crippling the phone.
If you're in the US, attempting to use AT&T, they will automatically add a data plan to the account when they detect you are using an iPhone without one.
