Unlocked iPhone Warranty NOT VALID in Colombia

Hello,
I bought an unlocked iPhone on june 22 (less than a month ago) and the Home Button doesn't work. I bought it in the 5th Avenue Store on NY and I brought it to Colombia.
For two days (literaly), the phone was working perfectly, but now the home button doesn't work (looks like this is a known issue https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2798587?start=30&tstart=0 ).
I checked the Apple's Support page for warranty and technical service and it said that the Carriers were the ones that should take care of the problems. I went to Comcel (http://www.comcel.com  -  listed in Apple's official support site) and they told me that they were NOT an official SUPPORT entity (only a "seller" entity) and that they were not going (and in fact didn't) to look at the phone because I did not buy the phone with them.
I think that is absurd. You offer global warranty but that seems to be a lie here in Colombia. All the Apple Stores in Medellín (the city where I live) say that the carriers are the ones that should give the support but the carriers (Comcel exactly) says that they won't.
Did I spend over 600USD in a phone that didn't work for 2 weeks and that has no warranty? I didn't use the phone for 3 days before it got broken.
I would love to know what to do. I'm pretty sure the Carrier SHOULD take the phone and change it without problems, but they just won't and is useless to argue there.
Thanks a lot,
María Carlota Isaza.

EU countries are the exception.  Any iPhone purchased from an official retailer in an EU country can obtain warranty service in any EU country per Apple, see here.
For all other iPhones, warranty is country specific.  This is exactly why most people recommend that users purchase iPhones in the country in which they intend to use them.  There have been rare cases where users outside of their home country have gotten devices replaced... but that is extremely rare.

Good to know that, but what can I do to get the mail and contacts downloaded from Icloud onto my Iphone?  I am told that the password needs to be reset and I have erased and reset it 3x's already? Should I Restore All Settings or Restore Network Settings or will that result in a situation where I have to have it re-unlocked again? GRACIAS!

  • Iphone 5 was sent to get unlocked but 'sim not valid'

My phone was given back to me on wednesday the 21st Januray after giving it to get unlocked on monday 19th january. The phone was locked to vodafone and now should be on giffgaff and unlocked to all networks.
The guy said it can take upto 3-5 days for the phone to work with the new giffgaff sim, it is not the 5th day and it is still not working and it says
SIM not valid - the sim card that you currently have installed in this iphone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iphone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iphone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact apple for more information.
When i take the sim out, i am able to use the iphone in terms of going onto apps and only using wifi but it says no service due to no sim being in the phone.
the carrier on the settings says giffgaff 17.0 which is why i think the phone should be unlocked but is not working
i have been advised to 'reset network settings' but im scared this might lock the phone back as the phone is unlocked
    what do i do?

  • Why is T-Mobile contract-free iPhone 6  not unlocked , showing * SIM not Valid* erorr outside of US?

Just before Christmas I purchased my iPhone 6 64 at full-price from the Stonebriar Apple Store, TX. At the time of purchase, I indicated several times that I want to use my phone outside of US and Apple Store representative assured  me that my only option was  T-Mobile contract-free iPhone which came   totally unlocked and I would be able to use it internationally with no problem. I used my phone about 3 weeks in US with my prepaid AT&T SIM card without any problems and I was the happiest with my purchase but since I came back to my country my biggest nightmare has started : Just arrived at airport trying to use my local SIM, I faced the *SIM not valid* message due to a *Activation Policy*. My awful experience just started with both my family and I had the most frustrating time trying to find each other at airport. The next day when I called Apple care and explained the situation the adviser told me that although I bought the phone contract-free, my phone is now locked to AT&T and I had to contact them. I contacted AT&T several times spending countless hours to explain the situation and I spoke to near 9 different people including a manager ; at first they did not even believe me and they told me that it is impossible for AT&T to just block ppl's phones just because they activated their phone with their SIM -and it is totally making sense- but I insisted that Apple Care told me that my phone is locked by them and this is evident from their system. Anyway, one of them suggested me to request unlock my device via ATT website and I waited 4 days for their response till I received the denial because according to their record I used my prepaid service less than 6 months and I am not eligible for unlock request!!! Angry me called them again and after being on the line more that one hour, the adviser told me that my phone is not locked by them and it is actually Mercury who did this and they are the one that I had to call - at that moment I remembered that the night before I just tried my T-mobile SIM in my phone for few seconds to see what would happen and that's it - no service no activation ! When I called Apple this time and after speaking with at least 3 different pple, they told me that their system is  actually unable to show which carrier has locked the device and they could only see which SIM card is the last one used in the phone  and the problem is merely because of a latent Activation Policy  that some iPhones can be used only in US and nowhere else and in US you may use it with different carriers but it does not mean that the phone is unlocked, and my only option is to contact the Apple Store I made my purchase to see whether they can(!! it is up to them to do it, they can easily say they can not) exchange the phone or not ! I told them that it is impossible for me to go there because I will not come back to US in next 9 months and I do not have access to any apple stores in my country, but this is the only thing that they could do , to say that they were sorry for the inconvenience.
The sad part of story is that after waiting 2 weeks without phone and  spending more than 100$ to make international phone calls, this is the only answer they had for me. It is very hard for me to believe that Apple does not have any control over their own Activation Policy  and for some one with my situation they are completely clueless.   Apart from being  frustrated, I am very disappointed with Apple and their costumer care because the advisers seemed very confusing or maybe they themselves were confused even more ! It is very abusive and it is like that I am robbed almost 1000$. Please help if you have the same experience or if you suggest that it is a good idea to file a complaint !

I managed to chat with an Apple Online Store representative, and he assured me that if purchased online it's completely unlocked from day 1...
So i guess that counts as official confirmation.
I'm still worried though, something is not right with all this contradicting information, or it's probably just marketing!
I know they are in the business of making profit and I myself work in an Apple related business, but i have to stress that there are moral and freedom-of-market issues with locked phones, they really are illegal in many countries (correct if you ask me).
Locked phones paid full price is troll, really makes no sense at all!

  • URGENT: Unlocked iPhone 5s not working in Israel?

I bought my iPhone 5s in Canada that was locked with Bell. I am not a customer with Bell, so I could not get it unlocked through them. So I got it unlocked at the Flea Market in Canada from a guy that who said he worked with Bell; he took my IMEI # and said that using a code he bought from Bell, he would get it unlocked within a week.
I moved to Israel and weeks went by and my phone was still locked, but I was at least able to access my home screen and apps. My carrier here is with 'Orange'. I was told I needed to reset my phone through iTunes in order to the unlock to work. I did that, and now I can't access anything on my phone! Every time I try to, I get a message that says "SIM not valid" and it doesn't let me go further. I'm going on vacation soon so I'm wondering how I could at least get access to my apps for now.
I'm wondering if this is a hardware issue or if it means my phone is not actually unlocked? Did the guy scam me? How can I get it unlocked (if it's not unlocked)? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!!

It doesn't matter what he said to you - if Bell didn't do the unlock for you (and you have no paperwork from them indicating it was done), then your phone is still locked to them. He hacked it to unlock it, if it ever was unlocked.
If it wasn't still locked, you would have been able to restore the phone using any SIM card and wouldn't be stuck on the invalid SIM screen.

  • Unlocked iphone 5 not working properly

I bought a brand new unlocked iphone 5 on ebay off of a seller (a legit seller). I got my phone today, and started to set my phone up and then I noticed the camera would not work. When I open the camera app, it is just a blank screen. SOMETIMES, the frontal view camera will work, and when I would switch it back to the regular view, it would just freeze and be blurry. and sometimes, the frontal view doesn't even work. I talked to a friend who is very good with phones and she suggest that there was probably a problem with unlocking the phone. She thinks the phone was not unlocked properly and I was wondering if that seems like its the case? I was wondering what I could even do now, because I can't just get a replacement phone from apple because it will not be unlocked. I am wondering what are my options?? I am already trying and getting a refund from the ebay seller, but I have no way of buying the iphone 5 online or at any T mobile store since it has been "discontinued". I was wondering what I can do???

    Hi sophia,
All you can do is return the phone to the seller. It is defective. If you want an iPhone 5, you will have to continue to look for one via a 3rd party seller. Be advised, however, that you must make sure the phone has been complete wiped, and Find My iPhone has been turned off, or you will not be able to use the phone.
    Cheers,

  • Iphone sim not valid, "the sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported. This iphone is not currently setup to work with carrier you're attempting to use. Please use another Sim card from a supported carrier or request that this.....

I bought my IPhone 5 from JB-Hifi and i put in my vodaphone sim but it keeps coming up with the message about the invalid sim. Im not sure what i should do

You purchased a carrier locked iPhone. If you don't intend on using it with the carrier it is locked to, return it for a refund & either purchase an officially unlocked iPhone or one locked to the carrier you want to use.

  • Warranty not valid in India

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I have purchased a Toshiba Laptop R630-14T from One of your Authorised Dealers from Gulf, Achiever Computers LLC, Ak Ain Centre, Dubai on the 20th of February, 2011 vide Invoice No. R-5876 by paying AED 3,350. At the time of purchase, i was informed by their Executive Mr. Sandeep that the Laptop contains International Warranty and that i shall have no problems in India. But on contacting Toshiba India, i have been informed that the warranty is not valid in India.
I am disappointed and feel cheated since i have clarified this issue not once but thrice with the Executive.
Please do the needful and help me sort out the issue.
    Regards,
    B. Anil Baliga

    Hello
Satellite R630-14T is EMEA (Europe Middle East Nord Africa) notebook and it is always offered with EMEA warranty only. Unfortunately I must confirm that this EMEA region warranty is not valid worldwide.
You got your notebook with standard warranty for EMEA region 1 year EMEA carry-in warranty on all laptops. More information about warranty you can find on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/services/home?
Problem is that you got wrong information in the store.

  • Sending an email to a valid address, yet iphone say not valid

Have just got first, iphone, have set up pop3 email correctly. yet when i send an email, i get a message syaing either the address is not valid, which it is, or is an incorrect address which it's not. never had a problem with any previous phones, yet this seems to want to complicate a very simple process.

Not sure that there is one in today's world of spamming - frankly, I'm glad my ISP and/or web email hosting service et al have these in place.
This is what I do for any emails which need to be sent to more than about 10 - 15 people:
I prepare an email with attachments if necessary and have my address book open. I start inserting email addresses in the BCC field until I reach a certain number. I open a new message window, paste in the email, and work on the next 50 or so. I do this until I've enough emails to cover every recipient I want to send this to. I then send one or more emails, wait about 2 hours, send more, etc, etc - you get the idea.
Also, be advised: Comcast has told me that they watch the activity; although they do not have a maximum in my case, if they feel that you could be a spammer by the number of emails and recipients, they may not allow the usual port for you to send email through and you will get errors.

  • Unlocked Iphone 5 not working with Idea cellular in India?

I bought an iphone 5 from Apple store in San Jose California, and used it with an at&t connection for 3 months. I have moved to India last week and am trying to use it with an Idea cellular connection. It gives me following error:
The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.
The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information.
Can someone tell me what do i have to do here. The phone is not locked to any carrier!!!

Does the purchase receipt lists it as "Unlocked iPhone 5"
If yes, pop in AT&T, Airtel or Aircel sim inside and connect in iTunes to activate. Once activated you can use non-supported carrier's sim (idea or any other)
If no: Get it unlocked from the carrier.

  • TS2529 ' SIM card inserted in iphone is not valid' is the message recd.

AT&T have unlocked the phone but when a new SIM is inserted I get the above message & the Device in File menu does not work.

    Insert a valid SIM card.
After AT&T unlocked the iPhone did you actually complete the unlocking process by restoring the iPhone?  If so, did you get the message that the iPhone has been unlocked?

I receive an AT&T unlock for my iPhone 3GS.  I did the restore on iTunes and was greeted with the message "congratulations! your iPhone has been unlocked."  I want to ues the iPhone in Colombia with Comcel.  When I did the restore there was an AT&T sim in the phone.  When I put the Comcel sim in the phone will it activate on the Comcel network?  Or . .  will I have to resre it again with the Comcel SIM in the phone?

Are you saying if I did the restore using an AT&T sim, which is what I have done, and the unlock was succesful, all I need to do is remove the AT&T sim and put in the Claro sim and the phone will activate for that Carrier?
Or will I have to do another restore using the Claro sim?
