Unlocked iPhone with T-Mobile or Verizon in US

I was given an unlocked iPhone 3G as a gift from a friend outside US. I currently use T-Mobile plan for several family phones in eastern US and have surpassed plan's minimum service term. I also have Verizon FIOS service bundle at home. A simple and inexpensive option is to replace my current T-Mobile phone with the iPhone by using existing SIM card. Is this possible? If so, do I lose any important functionality on iPhone? Is there an advantage to trying to add my wireless phones & iPhone to my Verizon FIOS bundle instead? Or should I just switch all phones to AT&T?

The iPhone is a GSM phone, and Verizon has a CDMA network. Not compatible.
The only other GSM network provider in the U.S. that comes anywhere close to AT&T in terms of the number of subscribers and network coverage nationwide is T-Mobile, but I don't believe T-Mobile's 3G network in the U.S. is compatible with the iPhone, and you won't have visual voicemail access when using a T-Mobile SIM card with an unlocked iPhone as you would with AT&T. The iPhone's visual voicemail feature is one of the best phone features IMO.

  • Using unlocked iPhone 6 (T-Mobile) on Verizon?

I am attempting to purchase an iPhone for someone as a birthday gift. They have Verizon, and i have AT&T. I have read that if i purchase the unlocked (T-Mobile) version, i would simply insert my simcard into the new iPhone, and all should work correctly? Verizon has told me that the version for the iPhone they sell is A1522, which has both GSM and CDMA bands, so this makes sense. I was also told by a Verizon rep that i would simply need to go into a store and request a simcard, since the gift is for someone who currently uses and iPhone 4, and therefore has no sim card. It doesn't appear Apple is selling off contract iPhone 6s distinctively for Verizon, so i figure this is the next best work around?

Verizon won't activate non-Verizon iPhones even though they have the required CDMA hardware.  They have a list of Verizon iPhone serial numbers that the check when activating. There are reports that a non-Verizon iPhone will work on Verizon's network if you insert an active Verizon SIM, but some Apple specific features (e.g. iMessage, FaceTime. Visual VoiceMail) depend on the iPhone serial number, not the SIM, and may not work.  It won't help you anyway since the Verizon iPhone 4 has no SIM.

  • Verizon iPhone with T-mobile

I have an carrier question. So my friend gave me her old iPhone 5 today to use with tmobile. Right now, I have a regular sized SIM card that does not fit into the Verizon iPhone. If I go to the tmobile store to get a nano SIM card, can I just pop it in the iphone 5 and it'll work? Or is the iphone carrier specific to verizon? Any advice is appreciated.

The iPhone 5 activated with Verizon is unlocked on the GSM side to use any carrier's SIM card even with GSM carriers in the U.S.
You will need to activate the iPhone with T-Mobile with the new SIM card. There should be a setup assistant for the activation and the T-Mobile Store can help you with this if there is a problem.

  •  Will an unlocked iPhone 5 work on the Verizon network?

Will an unlocked iPhone 5 work on the Verizon network? I know this question is probably premature, I don't think apple has mentioned anything about it yet, but I saw that past unlocked iPhones (4 and 4S) would not work on Verizon. I'm a Verizon customer and I want to keep my unlimited data plan, the only way to do this is buy a iPhone at retail, but from what I saw regarding the 4 and 4S I may not be able to do this. I did read that the iPhone 4S is being made in three distinctive models, 1 with a CDMA network and 2 others with varied GSM - LTE networks. I'm hoping this means that an unlocked iPhone 5S can now run on the Verizon network. Any ideas if I'm correct? Thanks.

Honestly I'm not convinced to jump to sprint so quickly. I am monitoring my data as it is, I'm a heavy data user as I watch a lot of movies from Netflix Hulu plus crackle etc. the flip side of this is that I do most of this on my iPad, which I have currently unlimited data on, so I can still get by without unlimited data on my cell, it's more of me not wanting to lose what I have. But thanks for all the info. I'm secretly hoping that apple has redone the unlocked iPhones but I wont lose any sleep over wishful thinking. I'm just quite anal I guess lol. Thanks again

  • Hi I have a problem I forgot my pass for unlocking iphone with Touch ID.Someone know how I can remuved

Hi I have a problem I forgot my pass for unlocking iphone with Touch ID.If someone know how I can remuved please tell

to be able to restore you need to put it into recovery mode first so it won't ask for the passcode
this article will go over how to put into recovery mode at the bottom of the article:
Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
basically with it being powered off hold the home button while plugging it in and keep holding the home button until it shows the iTunes logo with a chord and it will then let you restore the device in iTunes

I am currently living in KSA, if i order an unlocked iPhone 6(T-Mobile) will LTE work ?

The unlocked iPhone 5s model sold in the U.S. is A1533 (GSM).

The iPhone will work except for not being able to connect to any LTE networks there, and the warranty if needed will be valid in the U.S. only.

  • Problems unlocking two iPhones with t-mobile. And advice pl

    Hi
I have many lines for my business with t mobile, in November I got two iPhone 5s, now I don't pass these upgrades on to my workers as they trash phones.
So I thought I would keep them as presents for my nephews for Christmas, as they are on  griff gaff, I phoned tmobile to unlock as I've done in the past.
Anyway I got the text last week to say they are ready to unlock connect to iTunes. This where the problem starts, iTunes does not unlock the iPhones, I've called tmobile now over 8 times, they say that their systems say the phones are unlocked when they are not . The money has being paid to them to unlock them but iTunes does not do the unlock. Now after many calls tmobile has washed their hands of this problem and told me to call apple.
But I can't call apple as the phone support has ran out with them. So I'm left with money out of pocket and two iPhones that my nephews can't use.
Can anyone from apple please advise me on what action I can take here?

No. There is no one from Apple here, we're all users, just like you.
Don't know what else to tell you...T-Mobile sends the IMEI numbers to Apple, Apple adds to the database. Either T-Mobile hasn't done their job, or not done it correctly. Only one way to find out.

  • Unlocked iPhone from T-Mobile does not work in Switzerland

I'm extremely annoyed. I bought myself a *so called unlocked* iPhone in Germany for 999 Euro and now it does not work with a Swiss SIM card. When I try to make calls via dialing or when i try to read text messages (sms) the phone and the sms application will crash. Calling the different helplines ends up in the same resutls: Apple care blames either Swisscom or T-Mobile, T-Mobile blames either Swisscom or Apple and Swisscom blames Apple or T-Mobile...
In the end however, I can't get rid of the feeling that the problem could be solved by a very simple software update, because I've seen hacker reports on the internet claiming they were able to solve the problem by changing a few settings. I don't want to be forced to hack my legally bought so called unlocked iPhone. *When will Apple set the "unlocked" iPhone really free?*

    Hi Pete,
welcome to the club! A you can see from this thread
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1260589&tstart=0
you are not the only one. It seems as if the T-Mobile unlocked phones work with any German SIM card, but with non from not-Apple supported countries (like CH).
Apple support is aware of the problem, as many of us have called them and submitted bug reports, but it remains to be seen, if Apple is interested enough in "us" to provide a solution.

  • Unlocked iPhone 6 & T-Mobile

I want an unlocked phone.  After researching the Apple site, talking to Apple sales and T-Mobile, T-Mobile seems to offer the only way to get one now.  HOWEVER, I've had bad experiences with them and hopefully someone can verify the information given to me by T-Mobile.  I got different information from 2 different reps.
    REP1
    1.  It is available now (to order)
    2.  It is contract free as well as unlocked and there is no obligation to obtain service from them
    3.  Not to be repetitious, but I can buy the phone at T-Mobile and then take it to AT&T or the Caribbean to activate and use it.
    REP2
    2. as well as 3. - I got a different answer from someone who was very unsure of herself.  She said that I was obligated to stay with T-Mobile.  She could not answer how long.  Only a long ethical answer that I "should" get my service from them because I'm buying from them and they have the lowest rates. [I really hate this company.]
Apple had a slightly different version or somewhere in between what T-Mobile reps said, but the salesperson qualified herself by saying she wasn't certain:
Apple stated that you must stay with T-Mobile 45 days and then you're free to do what you want.  That makes a heck of a lot more sense than what either of the T-Mobile reps told me.
At this point, I'm leaning towards waiting until Apple releases its unlocked version.  I don't trust T-Mobile.  Any thoughts?

I pre-ordered the Contract Free (T-Mobile) iPhone 6 and when it arrived yesterday I took my AT&T SIM from my iPhone 5 put it in the 6 and turned it on. Took a second to activate to AT&T, but since then I have had NO issues. I did receive a weird text message from AT&T about a new SIM, but I went to AT&T store and they told me the text probably came late (the phone activated before they sent the text) and since everything is working just ignore it.

  • Unlock iphone 5c wind mobile

Hi there, I have an iphone 5c. I'm with wind mobile. My iphone recently got liquid damage and was replaced, but my iphone does not recognize my sim card. Do i have to bring it back to apple store again? My provider tells me it's not properly unlocked..

How was your original iPhone unlocked to work with wind mobile?
Replacement iPhone should be same unlock/lock status as the iPhone being
replaced. If your original iPhone was purchased as unlocked, take proof of that
and the replacement iPhone to Apple for adjustment. If original iPhone was
purchased locked and you later had it unlocked, how was it unlocked?

  • Can I use unlocked iPhone with bad ESN in South America?

I want to buy an unlocked iPhone 4s or newer but it has a bad ESN/IMEI/MEID. I read that even though it is blacklisted and can’t be used in the USA and Canada, it can be used in most of the world’s GSM carriers (assuming a compatible frequency). Assume the iPhone is GSM and the carrier abroad is GSM too. Because it has a bad ESN it’s cheaper.
But I’d like to buy the phone in Canada and test it here before I leave the country so I can return it if something doesn’t work. How can I test it? I read that data might work wherever there’s public Wifi but I mean I wanna test if it can actually make calls and text. Is there usually problems with those features with used iPhones? Do any carriers abroad check the ESN blacklist and not allow the phone?
I also read that some phones have a country code lock, which says that the phone won't connect to systems with particular country codes and that cracking the country code lock is a lot more difficult than the SIM unlock. Is this true or usual in iPhones?
For the record, "bad ESN" isn't exactly a synonym for "stolen phone”.

No, it's a synonym for 'very likely to be stolen, and more problem than it's worth, don't waste your money'.

  • Unlocked iphone 4 T-mobile

I bought my unlocked iPhone 4 from an Apple Store here in the States. It works great but I cant get either the MMS or the data plan to work correctly. I went to a Tmobile store to get the micro sim as well as some info about the settings and they told me after 2 hours everything would work correctly. Well it didn't and it hasn't. I went back and they said I should go to the Apple Store and get help from them as they didn't know iPhone that well. I went to the store and they couldn't help me either. Has anyone else had issues like mine and have they found a solution for these issues? Please let me know, because my iphone is not working how I thought it would work and that makes me very frustrated.
    Thanks

T-mobile is NOT a supported network for the iPhone.  Many features will not work correctly.  You will not get FaceTime to work, there will be no visual voicemail, and you will only get data at EDGE speeds.
The only reason you should be frustrated is by your lack of research.  AT&T is the only GSM network in the US that has the infrastructure to support the iPhone and is indeed the only network in the US that supports it.

  • Factory Unlocked iPhone 4 T-Mobile US APN Settings

I have an Factory Unlocked iPhone 4 in the United States and need to know the APN settings and MMS settings for the internet. I know that only EDGE works but that is fine with me. Can anyone help me. Thanks.
I am also running iOS 4 as I am unable to update to 4.0.1 due to iTunes not being able to reach the iPhone update servers.
If theres a fix for the update servers also please let me know. Thanks.

hi. just want to ask if at this time, there are still no factory unlocked iphones in the US.
I know in the UK, Canada, France, Hongkong, etc., iphones are factory unlocked. I'm not sure though if at this time, there are still no factory unlocked iphones in the US. I'm also considering the fact that the government ruled that jailbreaking is legal.
    Thanks.

  • Iphone with t-mobile

is there any date at which I-Phone might be available with t-mobile?

This is a user to user help forum only, so no one here knows. If Apple plans on doing so and someone here is privileged to this info in advance, they would be under Apple's non-disclosure agreement which would prevent them from saying so until Apple makes an announcement.
