Unlocked phone doesn't work overseas
Our iphone 3 is unlocked. However it won't work in Russia. Is there something else that needs unlocked so it will work overseas?
How did you look up the IMEI? If you used a web site every one of the sites that claims to be able to tell the lock status is bogus. The only sure way to tell is to ask Apple. When you restored it did you get the message Congratulations. Your iPhone is unlocked. If you did not get this message it is not unlocked. HOWEVER, if it was locked the error you would get is "The SIM is not from a supported carrier". If you did not get this error the phone is probably unlocked, and the account associated with the SIM is not activated.

I bought an iphone 4s full price, unlocked in the US. It has the slot for the microsim and they told me that it could work in Italy. When it didn't work with the sim from TIM, I went to the apple store here in Italy. They told me that the phone is actually still locked from Virgin (the carrier that I had in the USA). I sent and email to Virgin but they told me that they won't unlock it and that those phones are designed to work only in the USA and only with Virgin. Is there something I can do to use it in Italy?The ONLY place to purchase unlocked iPhones in the US is directly from Apple.

Virgin does not offer unlocking. If you bought the phone anywhere other than at an Apple Store, you bought the wrong phone. Sell it to someone in the US who wants to use Virgin and buy a phone you can use. -
Unlocked iPhone doesn't work in UK
I recently bought an iPhone 4S and the seller claimed the phone was unlocked but doesn't work in the UK (which is where I stay). So upon receiving the phone I placed an O2 sim card in it and the phone recognised the sim. It had plenty of signal and 3G but then once the phone was registered I lost all signal. Why, if the phone is unlocked, would it not work in the UK? I'm slightly confused here
As a small test I reset all the settings, registered again and this time the signal stayed around so tried phoning it, but to no avail.
At first I thought it might be the antenna but it does receive signal and recognises the network of the simI've done an IMEI check and it has come up saying that the phone is blacklisted in the UK. I'm demanding a refund for the phone as the seller did not state that it was blacklisted and on closer inspection there are several small details which seem very dodgy. Like the SIM tray has been changed for another as the IMEI and serial numbers don't match up.

My iphone 5 went into search mode and I can't place or receive calls or use the internet but my text messages work. Sprint had me do a master reset and my phone doesn't work at all now I can't get it past the activation. Will I have to pay for repairs in store because I didnt get the Apple care plan when I purchased it. Sprint said it may be a phone problem not sure if I should take it to Sprint or Apple...I just need my phone

I've installed the iPhone update and now my phone doesn't work. I even chose the restore function. It went through all that and it still just shows the graphic of the usb and an arrow and the itunes icon. Help!
Yes, I connected the phone to my iMac which is the original computer it is backed up on. From iTunes I had no option except to restore, which I did. Still no luck. Still just see the graphic. :-(

Just installed the new modem you say I have to have. Went through the activate scenario and now my phone doesn't work....no dial tone, no nothing. How will you fix that? And, it's the only phone I have!!!

Always start troubleshooting by resetting your gateway or telephony model by pressing the indented reset button on the panel where the cables attach. Plug in a known good wired phone to the L1/L2 jack to bypass the inside wiring and all telephone equipment. If it still doesn't work, then contact Comcast support. -
I have an iphone 3gs - yes, an older iphone.
This morning apple had a msg that asked if I wanted to upgrade to the new ios 6.1 (?). I said yes. Now I can't use my phone. I've tried hitting the power and other buttons. I get a white apple on the screen. can't reset phone - doesn't work. what can I do besides take phone into Apple? This *****! I realize (now from reading internet) that my phone/system may be uncompatible. Help!I have a 3GS (a true classic design!) and have upgraded it to 6.1 today. The process did not go without a glitch - it took a few attempts to get the app's to sync but after detecting the ones causing an issue and deleting them it works - so far! I have had issues about 50% of the numerous times a new OS is uploaded to this phone and always take the new OS with trepidation. But at least you know there is a 3GS with 6.1 working OK.
I suggest you do a fresh restart to the phone several times - without it being connected to the computer - to see if it gets its act together and starts. I think it will. Hold down the top 'power' button and front round control button until it shuts down - goes blank and dead. Then press the top power button to re-activate - reboot - it.
If that does not work then plug into your itunes computer, navigate in iTunes to see your iPhone and hopefully you will be able to sync it or at least 'restore iPhone' from the 'summary' tab.
If you can not get onto the iphone perhaps you will still be able to sync if in iTunes by going - 'file' - 'devices' - 'sync iphone' or failing that try transfer purchases' and ultimately 'restore from back-up'.
I had technical problems with my old 3GS (suffered a failed wireless antenna) so I took it to an Apple Store and they issued me with a service-replacement/reconditioned phone for a very modest charge. So if worst come to the worst get a new phone that way! -

Updated to OS4 and now my phone doesn't work!!
Updated my phone to the new OS4 and now my phone doesn't work. It says I have to do a system restore for it to work. If I do a system restore won't that erase all of my photos? Is there anything I can do so I won't lose any of my infomation? I have tons of photos on my phone. If anyone could help me out, I would be grateful.
When I turn the phone on it shows a picture of the usb cable and the itunes logo. I don't want to do a system restore if I don't have to. I don't want to lose my pictures. HELP Please!!That is one lesson we all have to learn. Backup. Did you backup your iphone regularly? If you did, your photos will backup with it and the restore will put it back on the phone. If you didn't, I am sorry to say that there is probably no way to get those precious moments back. I found that out the hard way years ago. I now learned to backup my computer and iphones at least once a month.

I have just created this account to tell you that nothing would change if you restored your phone.
The first NO SIM nuisance happened just a week ago. Nothing had been done to the phone before that. I pressed HOME + POWER buttons to restart the phone and SIM card was successfully recognized as if nothing had happened. Then I had a lucky week, not reminded of this issue at all.
Today, however, the same problem keeps annoying me. I've used the same method to heal the phone but all I have done seems more like a placebo. So I tried the ultimate solution, restroing it in iTunes.
Ridicuously, the moment I finished basic setup on the newly restored phone, the same NO SIM CARD INSTALLED message poped up.
So IMO, it's not what you should do to erase and restore your phone.
Plus, I called my native carrier and they said no such problems have been submitted. And since my nano SIM card is quite new (three months old), I'm not going to replace it.
I googled this problem and found something on a Hong Kong webpage. The author of that thread points out that there is a flaw in the SIM card tray that prevents the phone from successfully recognizing SIM cards.
And I really hope Apple could probe into this issue and give official solutions other than restarting / restoring the phone like an idiot. -
My iphone 4s has no sound. Music doesn't play and phone doesn't ring. The speaker phone doesn't work either. It only vibrates. Can anyone help? I have tried all possible ways of trying to fix this issue. Someone mentioned that the speaker is bad.

There are two places where vibrations can be set.
One is the Settings > Sounds
The other area is Settings > Notifications

Unlocked Australian 3G i-phone doesn't work abroad
I recently purchased a factory unlocked i-phone from an Apple store in Australia. I am now travelling in Indonesia, however, my i-phone won't work with local SIM cards (I have tried several different carriers). I believed that my phone would work outside Australia with overseas SIMs, and wonder if there is something I need to do with itunes to unlock it for use here? At the moment, I can use the Vodafone pay-as-you-go SIM that I purchased and installed in the phone just after I bought it from the Apple store. I don't want to use this SIM while I am travelling as the calls and SMS are expensive, and I want to use a local SIM while I am here. What do I need to do to get a local SIM to work?

I want to use a local SIM card while travelling here but it is only working with the Vodafone SIM card which I put inot the phone after I bought it from the Apple store.

Try a hard reset. Hold home button and sleep button at the same time until the phone turns off and reboot. Try now.

My daughter's iphone4s (factory unlocked) suddenly ceased to work as a telephone.
She has a spanish vodafone account and after a few days, while in France the phone function ceased to stop. As she previously had a 3GS Model, she recently cut a sim card to adapt it to her new phone. Could it be that the sim card moved a little bit inside the phone. Any other idea of what it might be?
