E70-1 reception on GSM 850 Network?

Hello, I am located in the US. I recently purchased an unlocked and new Nokia E70 from Amazon.com After I purchased the phone, I noticed that I had good reception at my office, but very poor or no reception at my house. This was strange because my Nokia 6800 has good reception both at the office and at home. I learned that my phone is the E70-1 (GSM 900/1800/1900) whereas my carrier operates on the GSM 850. My friend has the E70-2 (GSM 850/1800/1900) and he gets very good reception at my house! Question: Is this a hardware problem (antenna), or can it be fixed through settings and/or software? Can I download the North America software package into this phone and take care of this problem? Can Nokia replace the antenna if I pay for the service? In short, what can be done to convert this phone so that it works ideally on my Cingular network? Thanks, Art

While very similar in hardware terms there are enough differences in some RX path areas to make it impossible to convert from 900 to 850, sorry. Even if you could do the hardware changes the software changes required would need an expert in low level programming to implement. Sell it on ebay and get the correct model.

Nokia 5030 and GSM 850/1900

My brother bought a Nokia 5030 phone for his trip to the USA, on the Nokia website at http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/devices/nokia-5030/specifications Nokia 5030 according to specifications it support the following frequencies: EGSM 900/1800
GSM 850/1900
The phone worked fine on the EGSM 900/1800 Frequency.
Before buying we checked with Nokia support and they told him that the phone should work in the USA. Now he is there and his Nokia 5030 couldn't detect any operator either by auto or manual search, he tried putting his SIM card in another phone and it detected a network, so its not the SIM.
I have tried contacting Nokia support in my country, and they still told me that the phone should work in the USA.
They told to try and perform a factory reset, but it didn't help.
Also the box says "made in Romania" and it has only EGSM 900/1800 written on it.
Also in the manual there is in mention of GSM 850/1900 frequency.

in that case why Nokia support tells me that it should work and the Nokia website lists that frequency in the specifications.

I see I’m not the only one that encountered that issue.
I think that unless you have a manual or box that says that the device supports GSM 850/1900 frequencies, it will unfortunately not work and I think that software update won’t solve it as it appears to be a hardware issue.
Its looks like that they’ve listed this phone as a quadband in their internal documentation so that the tech support and sales thinks that this phone is a quadband while its not.
(I called twice before buying and spoke with two different customer service representatives that assured me that the phone supports the US frequencies, and that it must have been a mistake that the manual does not list it as such.)
I hope that Nokia will notice and finally update the Nokia 5030 online specifications page, so that it would explicitly state that Nokia 5030 is not a quadband phone, like they did with their other phones.
Here is a little update:
After escalating my support request, and speaking to the customer support manager (and repeatedly asking for them to verify it with global Nokia), Nokia Israel (It’s actually represented in Israel by a company called Eurocom) acknowledged my request to return the phone for a full refund to the retailer, and offered me a small compensation (which I guess is better that no compensation at all).
Today I should return it to the retailer, and I hope there won’t be additional problems with that.
One thing I liked about the phone, (I guess this feature is available on most new Nokia’s phones) is its alarm clock feature that pronounces the current time as it tells you to wake up…
One more thing,
Notice the fine print that appears on the nokia 5030 specs page:
“The availability of particular products, services and features may vary by region. Please check with the Nokia dealer nearest you. These specifications are subject to change without notice”

LG G3 Unlocked phone not able to use to cellular data

Hello I am using LG G3 Unlocked phone and my carrier is AT&T. I am able to connect to WiFi and everything is fine about it. But when I don't have WiFi accessible, the cellular data is not working. I made sure that the Cellular Data icon is turned on and the preferred network mode is set to already set to "GSM/WCDMA auto". The other preffered network modes were 1. GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto, 2. WCDMA only, 3. GSM only. I can manually change and make it stay at WCDMA only. If I try to keep in the 1st option, it reverts backs to its original "GSM/WCDMA auto" status. The Access point names shows AT&T PTA and inside that it shows a preview of plenty other things like PORT, PROXY, USER NAME, PASSWORD and none of them can be edited. Please advice me on how I can use my cellular data.

You are right Glimmerman76. I am not able to link up to the LTE thing in my phone. It is currently using preffered Network mode as GSM/WCDMA auto and I cant change it to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto in the settings. Could you please suggest me on how I can get the LTE in my phone? iPhones purchased in the UAE do not have FaceTime installed and FaceTime will not appear regardless of where the phone is taken.
Jailbreaking will void your warranty with Apple, may permanently render your phone unusuable, and will eliminate the possibility of getting help from Apple or its forums including this one.
If you want FaceTime on an iPhone, sell that phone and purchase one from one of the authorized iPhone dealers in India.

The SIM Lock is stored on the Apple Activation Server - if it has been correctly unlocked by a network then this would have been done on the Activation Server.
When you get your replacement handset through Apple they mirror the activation server details of your existing handset and the current SIM LOCK status is mirror'd onto the new device.

Where did you get these phones?
These and other forums are full of people with iPhone unlocking problems - the net result is that, as others have said, is:
If you bought them from Apple they will be (and stay) unlocked.
If you bought them PAYG from CPW then they will lock to the first SIM activated.
Any other contract or PAYG phone iPhone bought from the networks WILL be locked by them too.
However, all is not lost. The original purchaser can request for the phones to be unlocked by Apple, via the carrier. The carriers usually charge around £20 to do this, or gratis if you're out of contract.
You are the original purchaser, right? If not, you need to get in touch with that person and pray they'll help you out.

Here's and update on my problems and here are are some screen shots of the types of problems I've been having since the v5.0.1 update. Keep in mind these are native apps and I have tried the rebuild phone crap many times, nothing helps.
This is screen shot of a what happened when I tried to use my camera one day, both the front and back cameras were all black. I had to power cycle the phone to get rid of this problem. The cameras appeared to be working correctly, I could focus and zoom but it was all black.
Here is an image of what happened when I searched for something in a map. This is after I picked the choice I wanted, the keyboard disappeared but the list didn't. I had to force close the app and restart it for this problem to go away. Who knew five bars on ATT was possible.
And finally this is the messaging app, although you would not know it. I had to return to home screen (after a long pause for it to process the button push) and return to the messaging app. This happens all the time with the messaging app and the notifications sounds drive me crazy. If i'm using the phone, say browsing the web and I get an incoming message its almost 100% of the time the messaging app will screw up. The sound will play at the wrong time or not at all, message will show up in notifications and diasapear in message app or Ill have a problem like this:
