Unlocked Verizon iPhone 5

I've heard all the talk and read the stories about how the Verizon iPhone 5 can be used on AT&T's network. What's the big deal? If you get it through Verizon aren't  you locked in their network for two years?

You are locked into a contract with them for 2 years, yes. Unless, of course, you pay full retail price for the phone.

  • How do I use my AT&T SIM card for the unlocked Verizon iPhone 5s?

So I am planning on getting an unlocked verizon iPhone 5s but the thing is my carrier is AT&T. So how do I use my AT&T SIM card for the unlocked Verizon iPhone 5s?

If you plan on using AT&T, why on earth would you purchase a Verizon iPhone? Doesn't make any sense. Yea, it will work on AT&T's network, but you won't get LTE, only 3G. LTE requires using a Verizon sim.
This is an extremely poor idea. Purchaase an officially unlocked iPhone, from Apple, if you want to use AT&T's network.

  • Can you sync an unlocked verizon iphone and keep unlock

    hi guyz
i just brought an unlocked verizon iphone 4s
and i wanna know is it safe to sync iphone to my pc
without losing my unlock? idk kno if itz factory or not
but i dont have cydia.one thing that scares me tho is that, i know when i
sync I'll lose all apps, and it came with an app called APN (unlockit.co.nz)
which states when i open it:
                         iphone APN changer
this website will set mobile carrier info for dat access when you cannot edit
    or do not kno settings.
it dose not jailbreak or carrier unlock iphones
click on the icon below to choose what you wish to do.
i dont really know if i need this or not but itz another reason i been hesitant
to sync my iphone. sorry for sounding like such a noob but i could use some
    help.
    Thanks

ONLY the carrier to which it is locked can unlock it.
If it was unlocked any other way, then it will likely lock after update.

    Contact Verizon.
Only the carrier to whom the device is locked can unlock it.
Posting your IMEI in a public forum is extremely unintelligent.

  • Unlocked Verizon iPhone 4S vs. Unlocked AT&T iPhone 4S

I know that an unlocked AT&T iPhone can use in Europe and Asia's GSM network.
    I have 2 questions:
    (1) After Verizon unlocks my iPhone 4S, can I use it in Europe's any GSM network?
    (2) After I fulfill my contract, can my unlocked Verzion iPhone 4S uses freely in Europe and Asia?

After reading this article I stand corrected...  http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57495076-94/why-you-cant-take-your-unlocked-iphone-4s-to-another-u.s-carrier/
It appears that it can be done only on non US carriers..

  • Unlocked Verizon iphone 4s not accepting AT&T sim

hello. before anyone asks, yes i tried googling and searching this forum. foud nothing useful.
i called up verizon's global support and got an authorization for unlock. i updated/restored the phone using latest version of iTunes to iOS 6. upon completion of restore i got a message saying "congratulation, your iphone is now unlocked," or something along those lines.
when i popped an at&t sim card in, the iphone does not accept it and just says no service at the top. it tries to activate then says only eligable sim cards from eligable carriers can be used
anyone have any idea what i did wrong?
in case it makes a difference, the AT&T sim card was active at one point but right now it is not provisioned with AT&T (not in service). do i have to find an active sim and try it?

i've personally seen a verizon iphone 4s running on t mobile. verizon's global support guy even told me it will work on at&t and t mobile. verizon can unlock their iphones same way AT&T can. the hardware is identical. i got a message in itunes saying that my iphone is unlocked.
i'm just not sure what i did wrong.

  • Unlocking Verizon iPhone 5c?

I am currently living in Central America for 2 months and verizon didn't offer an international plan. Is there anyway for me to switch carriers from verizon to say Central America's "Claro"? Do I need to unlock my iPhone and will it cause any damage? Help would be GREATLY appreciated!

You must first ask Verizon to unlock your phone, and the Claro network must support the type of iPhone you have.
Verizon has an International plan, so perhaps you need to sign up.

  • Can I unlock Verizon iPhone 5 or 6?

    What I know about iPad:
A Verizon iPad is interchangeable with other networks. Just pop in the appropriate SIM card. IPads are not locked.
A non-Verizon GSM iPad (ATT, T-Mobile) is NOT compatible with the Verizon Network because Verizon performs and requires a separate Verizon IMEI registration when you buy it,
Therefore, only a Verizon iPad works on all carriers (except another CDMA network, e.g. Sprint).
What i think about iPhone 5 or 6:
An unlocked GSM iPhone 5 or 6 (ATT, T-Mobile) works on Verizon.  Just pop in the appropriate SIM card.
Verizon states their is no unlock for their iPhone 5 or 6.
    Question:
Will a Verizon iPhone 5 or 6 with no contract work on another network anyway?
If not, is there any way to unlock it?
Does that mean you need to purchase an unlockable GSM iPhone 5 or 6 for complete portability?

The GSM portion of the iPhone 5 and later is unlocked already. You can use a Verizon iPhone 5 or later on another GSM network without requiring it to be unlocked since it's unlocked out of the box.

  • Apple sold me an 'unlocked' Verizon iphone 5

    Hi,
I was searching for an iPhone5 that is unlocked, 32GB and which works in Germany as well. The apple store at NYC sold me an iPhone 5 for $749 + tax which is the original price for an UNLOCKED iPhone 5. Although in the receipt it is said 'Verizon' but nothing about 'unlocked'.
After that I bought a prepaid T-Mobile sim card, because I lived in NYC for three months. This sim card worked perfectly with the iPhone5. That was the reason I thought everything was working well.
Now, since I am back in Germany I cannot use my cell anymore. That was the reason why I called up Apple support Germany to find out what the problem is. We could figure out that my iPhone5 is NOT UNLOCKED = it is LOCKED by Verizon (i could have had this much cheaper!). Obviously the Apple store sold me the locked iPhone 5 model but I have for an unlocked!
I would like to ask you if you can help to unlock my iPhone 5 so that it gets usable in Germany? I'm already in contact with Apple US but they don't care.
    Thank you in advance!
Please do not hesitate to ask for further information.

I might be in the same boat.  I bought an iPhone 5 A1429, the Verizon one, at an Apple store in the US for full price and then moved to Germany.  The receipt says "Verizon Account Information No Wireless Service Activation during iPhone Sale" and "This iPhone model is configured to work only with the wireless services of Verizon Wireless."
I have no service contract with anyone.
The sales guy at the store said the Verizon GSM functionality was unlocked and would work freely with GSM on any European carriers that use the right bands.   A guy from Belgium was doing the same thing right ahead of me.  To double check, I searched online and read scores of articles supporting the claim.  Here's one article about it.  To triple check, I called Apple support.  The operator was shocked that the Apple store would sell me a Verizon phone at full price with no contract, but he too confirmed that this device would work with European carriers as listed here.  This is a list of carriers that provide LTE speeds on iPhone 5 bands.  Maybe the phone doesn't support 3G for julia-iphone, but I doubt that.  I have seen lots of carriers here in Germany that offer iPhone 5's with their 3G service, and as far as I know there are only two physically different versions of the iPhone 5: A1428 and A1429.  So it should work and I am anxiously awaiting a conclusive answer to this post.
My box has not been opened yet but I have sadly passed the return date.  It's been sitting in my closet for a month.  Deutsche Telekom is the only German carrier that provides LTE speed on the bands supported by the iPhone 5, but their fees are too high.  So I regret having bought this as it would be really expensive to get LTE speed on it and that's the main advantage over the 4s.
If anyone's moving to Europe and thinking about buying a phone in the US to save money.  I don't recommend it.  If you want LTE speed, you are going to have to get a long term contract with high monthly fees compared to prepaid and if you do that, it will be a lot cheaper to take the phone with the service plan than to bring your own.  Android, Samsung and HTC are much better ideas in Germany due to the LTE supported bands of the devices.  At the moment, Europe mostly uses different LTE bands than the iPhone 5 supports.

  • Unlock Verizon iphone 4s

    Hi there,
I won 't go into boring details, so let's just say i'm currently in  india  for 6 months and will like to unlock my Verizon iphone 4s to use it with local sim card, while i go back to the US. The account is not active and it is not linked to a number. The following are the details:
    IMEI: XXXXXXXXX
Part Description: IPHONE 4S 16GB WHITE
    Product Version: 6.0.1
    Coverage Status: Apple Limited Warranty
    Coverage End Date: 29/11/13
    First Unbrick Date: 01/12/12
    Last Unbrick Date: 09/02/13
Next Tether Activation Policy Description: US Verizon Multi-Mode commercial, UMTS VF NL Locked.
I know i need 'an active over 60 days account'.  Is it possible to open a prepaid account while in India and pay over the phone to activate the iphone?  and then after 60 days call to ask for the unlock ?
Any information will be much appreciated.
    Than you!

Since you "know" you need an active over 60 days account, you then also "know" the method you ask about won't work.
Do you know anyone with an active account? Temporarily activate the phone on their account, unlock your phone, and then the person can reactivate their own phone. Problem solved.

  • How to activate unlocked verizon iphone 4?

So I have an AT&T service and needed a new phone that would work internationally. I went to the Apple store and the guy said to simply buy an unlocked phone and that it will work in Prague which is where I'm headed. He said to get the verizon version of the unlocked iphone because it has the capability of 4g services in Europe. I told him that my plan was ATT and he kept insisting that it didn't matter what my plan was because the unlocked phones can work on any carrier.
So I got the iphone 4 unlocked and tried activating it but it didn't work. When I plug my phone into iTunes it says Phone Number: n/a. I can't use the 3g for internet and I can't send texts/make calls because there is no number. I would pop my sim card in, but there is no sim card slot on this phone. The guy insisted that I get this verizon version so I'm sure there is a way to activate it for AT&T without a simcard. I have looked everywhere and cannot find any info on this. Does anyone know how to get to the activation screen again? When I try restoring my iphone it says "The device isn't eligible for the constructed build."
I don't know what's going on can anyone help? Thanks.

You were given incorrect information from the person at the store.  Verizon phones are not compatible with the AT&T network and vice-versa.  This has nothing to do with locked or unlocked.  The phones have different radios in them to support the different cell phone standards used by the 2 companies.  (BTW, Sprint phones can be unlocked to work on the AT&T network because the 2 companies use the same standard for communication)  In addition, the iPhone 4 (& 4s) are not 4G (LTE) phones, only the iPhone 5.
You have the wrong phone for what you want to do.  Sorry.

Since you "know" you need an active over 60 days account, you then also "know" the method you ask about won't work.

  • Do I need to activate my Verizon iphone 5 before I use it in Europe?

do I need to activate my new unlocked Verizon iphone 5 before I take it to Europe? Do you know if there are any limitations on how many times/countries I can activate a gsm card? is LTE going to work as far as there is the right sim each time?
    Thank you in advance

If the iPhone does not have the necessary carrier support files, then it won't connect regardless of the bands used. And as evidenced by the addition of more EU carriers just by an update to iOS, those files are not automatically present in the iPhone except for those carriers listed on the page I referenced. I have yet to see any reports of anyone being able to connect a US-sold iPhone 5 to a European carrier via LTE, so those support files are apparently not present in US-sold iPhones.
Again, unless someone has found a workaround that I cannot find any evidence of, a US iPhone will it would seem not work via LTE in Europe. I'd be happy to see reports or methods to the contrary, but I cannot find any.
    Regards.

  • The unlocked IPhone 4S models will not be available until November, Why is that? Why would Apple do that? I should be able to buy a factory unlocked Apple iPhone 4S when it comes out! Why is my interests being put last and Sprint, Verizon

The unlocked IPhone 4S models will not be available until November, Why is that? Why would Apple do that? I should be able to buy a factory unlocked Apple iPhone 4S when it comes out! I travel all over the world, and so that is why I need one like that. It is unfair to the consumer, and frankly turning away customers like myself willing to pay high dollar to Apple for their product, who can I speak with to complain about this, because I know their are factory unlocked iPhone 4S' sitting in a warehouse somewhere just waiting to be shipped, and I want one.  I know why, cause Apple signed contracts with each carrier so the carrier could increase their sales making customers sign 2 year contracts, I get it, I own my own business, but the delay of releasing factory unlocked ones is just not right and I should be able to buy one without having to buy it over in the UK where it is unlocked when it comes out right away, I should be able to buy it in my own country!  These business practices we practice in the US need to stop, their is a demand that needs to be met with consumers like myself who don't need subsidized iPhone's with 2 year contracts with carriers and don't mine paying full price for an unlocked one, it is unethical in a sense, forcing the customer to buy it with a carrier contract and NOT giving the customer the option to buy it full price and own it themselves, OR, making the consumer wait a month for that option to be available.  THEY SHOULD BE RELEASED AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!!  THAT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!!!!!!
Apple can contact me and I will proudly pay for one.  But making me wait a month for an unlocked one, puts AT&T, Sprint & Verizon's interests before mine, and that is not right, for it is MY money that keeps you guys in business, so my best interests should come first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand your frustration, but when any form of rationing is required you have to prioritise. The number of unlocked vs packaged phones will be quite small and the number of unlocked buyers wishing to upgrade immediately will be smaller still. Against this you have the corporations sharing $billions between them.
It would, you're correct, have been fairer to release all at the same time, but fairer doesn't come into it: it's business.

  • Will Verizon Be Unlocking the iPhone 5 for International Use with local carriers abroad like they do with the 4S?

Here is my situation. I am leaving the country on business in a month. Since it is pretty doubtful that an unlocked iPhone 5 will be available for pre-order tomorrow, I'll be buying one at full price under my verizon account (not due for an upgrade yet). Verizon currently SIM Unlocks the iPhone 4S if you meet certain requirements (account in good standing, active 60 days, phone activated on account, etc.) so you can use your iPhone abroad with a local carrier there for cheaper rates. Does anyone think Verizon will do this same procedure for the new iPhone 5? I understand that my new iPhone may not have 4G LTE capability abroad due to hardware limitations on different carrier models, however all new iPhone 5 models have quad band GSM/EDGE and 3G. Would I be able to use this feature if Verizon unlocked my iPhone? It should be noted I am not trying to unlock to use my phone on Tmobile or another US carrier, as with the 4S carriers put a block on this even for unlocked Verizon models. I am looking at this from the standpoint of a traveling business user (and I think there are a lot out there wondering the same thing). Nonetheless I will be preordering the iPhone 5 from Verizon and on release day I will call them and ask if they will unlock it. If they don't I will return it. I'll update my findings here for anyone else curious about this as well.

Egilbbys21... I am curious how things worked out with getting a nano SIM and your iPhone 5.  Our family will be visiting Manila this summer, and I would like to hear a first-hand account about your phone experiences.  Do you purchase minutes for call/texting?  What about data?  Any feedback you can give from your trip regarding your iPhone usage would be helpful.  Thanks!
