Unlocking address book

I am having difficulty unlocking the address book. I go to 'get info'> click on the lock icon > enter my password > it unlocks > I close the window and it locks again. ??????
The reason I want to do this is when I trash the old backups from time machine, I get a message that I need to press the option key over and over again because the address book is locked. ?????
TIA

this is standard OS X behavior. every time you open a get info window you have to unlock that lock again. If you want to delete all backups of a file/folder from TM you shouldn't do it from finder. do it from TM interface as follows. start TM, select file/folder you want to delete, click on the "gears" action button in finder's toolbar and select 'delete all backups of this item".

  • Unlock characters carry into dialing from address book

Hoping that you smart folks can help me out with this issue. When I unlock my Tour by typing * <call>, the * or an A carries over into my next attempt at dialing using the address book.  So when i type in "mel" to dial Melanie, the unit searches for "amel" or "*mel" which it can't find.  Not sure why it's an A sometimes and an * sometimes. Frustrating since i use the feature for most of my outbound calls.  Thanks

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Support Forums.
That shouldn't be happening, have you tried using the unlock key at the top edge, upper left of the device?

  • Address Book contacts

Is it possible to store contacts as a group in your Address Book but not view them in your master contacts list?  Say for example you have a business list that you don't want in your personal contacts list.  I'm on MAC OS X v 10.7.5 and not very technical…. Thanks

Try this, open your BlackBerry address book and click the Menu key > Filters.
Are any filters set or checked? UNcheck them and see if that helps.

  • Blackberry desktop manager 5.0 won't sync windows address book/mail

    Hi,
before I upgrade my laptop to win7 64 bit with DM 5.0, I had Vista 64 bit with DM 5.0 and I was able to sync windows address book.
Now on my win7, I can't select it anymore. I install the same software what I use on vista to win7. I use a blackberry tour, OS 4.7.
Like the picture see here : http://images.crackberry.com/files/u7860/Outlook_Sync_Selection.jpg
you can see that you can select windows address book/mail.
I try on win7, to install the latest DM, but still can't check windows address book/mail. I uninstall it, reinstall DM 5.0, also no luck. I remove intelisync, try again, still no luck.
Any idea how to get the it to sync with windows address book/mail ?
    Thanks

So, since it is a selection (from your image), what happens when you select it?

  • Is there a link between the Calendar and the Address Book

I wanted to know if there is a way that if you are setting up an appointment in the Calendar that you are able to place a contact name from the address book and link that information with the scheduled appointment?
    Thanks
    John

Not within the native RIM OS, no.
But I use an application called RexConnect which will perform that function--and many others, such as allowing an email to be inserted into a calendar event or task--or vice versa.

  • How to transfer or copy my complete address book from my BB to another smartphone

Hello Everybody, Could someone tell me how to transfer or copy my complete address book from my BB Torch 9800 to another smartphone and vice-versa? Many thanks in advance for your replies. Best regards, Eric ---------------------------------------- [email protected]

You didn't say what format the other phone will need to import a file into it. That is important.
But creating and exporting your BlackBerry contacts to a generic ascii csv file is possible.:

  • My address book does not have an edit button.  How can I change my address?

I am unable to edit any of the contacts in my address book.  The edit button is not there.  Just share and a plus sign.  Thanks in advance for your advise!

First things first: you bought this iPhone second-hand from someone you know. That person must have used his iTunes account to activate the phone. Have you tried connecting your iPhone to your computer (Mac or PC, doesn't matter) via USB and have it recognized by iTunes on your computer? If not, you'll have to activate the iPhone first. iTunes will do that for you, provided the former user has notified Apple he has sold his iPhone to you. Then, there's the question of your mobile phone provider: iPhones are network-locked. You can't buy an iPhone from someone who's, say, an Orange customer, then use it on another network than Orange's (in the US, of course, that point is moot). Only way to unlock your phone is to jailbreak it, but it's risky, and frankly, I don't think you'll find a lot of info on this forum on the subject... First off, check on which operator network you friend was.

  • I've just re-installed OSX mavericks and attempted to add contacts from address book, how do I do this?

if you need any further details please ask away. I'm going full Noob today.

    Hey, thanks for the reply.
I've actually resolved the question myself (Yay for me) I reinstalled mavericks and tried to restore my data using time machine. For whatever reason address book didn't copy over and neither did my iTunes library, I managed to find the answer to my iTunes query on another forum... Lol can you believe it was just the case of deleting two folders and voila! It worked... after two hours of searching.
Anyways, I found the path for all the address book files. They had little lock icons on them (weird i know) which indicated that they were locked files????? Don't know why... So (I'm done soon I promise) I unlocked all the files and viola! they were accessible by address book/contacts again.
Thanks for getting back to me though, I gave you a "This helped me" and a like just for taking the time to care.
    Cheers,
    jabawokie (Yes it's all lowercase)

  • Changes not being saved in Address Book

    Hi,
I've been editing one of the entries in my Address Book (deleting the surname input), but every time I do this and go out of Address Book the surname comes back. Not a massive problem, but it's very annoying especially as it all links in to Mail etc.
If anyone knows why this is and how it can be fixed it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I just encountered the same thing while setting up a couple new Macs with 10.6.8, it's very frustrating, but I found the solution, at least in my case. Maybe this is the same problem you are encountering:
I imported a whole bunch of contacts from another Mac to the first one (using a batch vCard). Anyway, I noticed a few of them were out of date so I edited them. Then I saved them (using both the export vCard group and the Address Book archive), then I took that file to the second Mac I was setting up, and imported them. but I noticed that most (but not all) of the changes I'd just made (prior to exporting) were not saved. This was quite a puzzler, and took a little while to figure out why some changes were being saved and not others.
I believe this problem is due to a interface design flaw in Address Book.
You see, when you press the "Edit" button to unlock a contact record, the "edit" button turns blue (signifying that the record is editable). But what's not clear is that none of the changes are actually committed until you press the exact same "Edit" button again to commit all the changes you've made (on that record and any others edited since the "Edit" button was last clicked).
So, really, what's missing here is a warning dialog. When you select an Export option, and the "edit" button is still blue, a dialog should appear saying that "recent changes are unsaved and will be lost" (or something to that effect). In my opinion, the edit button should probably turn into a "Save Changes" button or something like that.
This is especially confusing, because the uncommitted changes are persistently visible in the Address Book even after switching contacts. In most databases, uncomitted changes are lost as soon as you leave a record without saving, but not in Address Book. It looks like all your changes have been made even though they aren't. And I think it's fair to say that the typical user will assume that when you export the address book contacts, the export will appear identical to how it appeared when they saved it, but if the "Edit" button was blue during the save, that will not be the case, and there is no warning to that effect. So it leads to unexpected behavior in that some recent changes are saved but the most recent are not.
Anyway, I'm sure there'll be other opinions as to the interface design, but it's clear to me this is the problem, and the solution is to always make sure the "edit" button is NOT blue before saving or exporting the address book or contacts.
I also wouldn't have noticed it unless I was trying to set up two computers at once (since the changes were so minor, I might have not ever noticed they weren't saved otherwise). So I wouldn't be surprised if this problem has been around for a long time and I never noticed it before.
    Hope that helps...

  • Palm address book to be synchronized with a window based EPABX address book

Is it possible to synchronize the palm address book with a window based EPABX address book?
Post relates to: Centro (Unlocked GSM)

Can you sync the EPABX to Outlook? If you can, you could change the sync method to sync with outlook and then sync to the PBX system.
The other option is to export the data as a .csv or tab delimited format and then import into the PBX system, if it accepts those file formats.

I have lost the address book from the menu bar. How do I get it back?

Which menu bar?  Finder or your email client?  Which email client are you using btw?  If your email client you can customize your menu through the view>toolbars menu.
    If Mail it's view>Customize Toolbar
Finder menu it's System Preferences>Users & Groups>your account>unlock the padlock>Login Items - add the address book by clicking the "+" sign.  When done lock the padlock.

  • Address Book database is locked?

    Hello,
I'm having a constant problem when trying to sync (using MySync): the sync services engine says that mingling failed and looking at the log I see:
    <pre>
    2006-06-21 09:09:59.357 SyncServer[216] NSGenericException: error 5 executing 'pragma synchronous=normal': database is locked

SyncServer failed to merge the changes from some clients: NSGenericException error 5 executing 'pragma synchronous=normal': database is locked
    </pre>
So it seems that my address book database is locked. I tried rebooting both machines, but it did not do anything.
Anybody knows how to unlock an address book database?
    Thanks a lot.
    PowerMac G5 2x2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

Thank you for the suggestion, I'll try it. (The new user account thing might be difficult as I'll have to tell MySync to synchronize accounts with different names.)
The strange thing is that this started happening with two machines at the same time.

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Support Forums.
There is a not a function in the native OS to only password protect the Address Book alone, or individual contacts.
You may password protect the entire device. On your device > Options > Security > General Settings (or Password on some later OS versions).
