Unlocking iPhone by passcode - entered number disappears!

I have an iPhone 5 on iOS 7.04. Since I upgraded to iOS 7 I have had a problem with the passcode unlock. When I enter the third digit of my passcode, it shows as entered (the black circle for the third digit turns white), but within half a second it disappears. I have to press the third digit several times for iPhone to accept it.
This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen quite often and I can't see any pattern.
Any ideas?

Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons...
If no joy...
Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and Restore

Yes, I tried to backup and restore your iPhone to iOS 8.1.3 using iTunes many times, but never got this Cong. message, instead 'Welcome to Your New iPhone'. BTW, my old sim card is locked, so I need to input the passcode and disconnect&connect iTune during restoring.
Searching online, I found it seems that the old AT&T sim card is inactive and I need a new sim card and number to unlock it. Is it correct?

I have a new iPhone 4S that I recently got SIM-unlocked by Verizon in preparation for my trip to Dubai (to visit my dad - he lives there). I don't quite fancy the phone as much as my earlier Droid X, so I want to give it to my Dad instead.
Two questions:
1. When I return from Dubai, I will activate the Droid X on my line in place of the iPhone 4S. Will this impact his ability to continue using the iPhone with his GSM carrier? I am guessing it shouldn't - I don't see how Verizon would be able to disable the phone?
2. He travels to India fairly frequently, and since India has both GSM and CDMA (he will be using a GSM carrier there) I run a risk of roaming charges if the phone automatically connects to CDMA when the GSM signal is poor. Can I be hit by such charges from Verizon even when the phone is no longer on my line?
I guess I will find out these answers in a month or so myself, so if no one else knows, I can post the answer here when I find out for myself.

I'm sure that you are aware of the many benefits of having an unlocked global device like the iPhone! May I ask does you dad have a Verizon Wireless mobile number? If he does then he can use your unlocked iPhone 4S on his number! Also, the great news is that once the iPhone 4S is unlocked, it can be used on an international carrier, even if it is not active on the line that it was unlocked on. So if you decide to let your dad use your iPhone while in India with an international carrier then he is free to do so. Since the Verizon Wireless SIM card is not in the phone, he will not incur any roaming charges from us. Below are a few recommendations that I would like to make prior to giving the device to your dad.
Sync all of your current information from your iPhone to your computer using iTunes.
Sign out of iTunes on the device and on the computer that the iPhone syncs with.
Perform a factory reset on the iPhone so your information won't be mixed with your dad's.
Verify that the device is deactivated from your mobile number before he leaves to Dubai.
Insert the international SIM card in the iPhone when he arrives in Dubai.
Activate/unbrick the iPhone using either wi-fi or a computer with iTunes and a data connection. (See link below)

If the device is found, nobody can use it without knowing your Apple ID and password.
The phone will only show it's location if it is connected to cellular network or Wi-Fi. If those options are switched off, you can't locate the phone.
With iOS 7, Find My iPhone includes a new feature called Activation Lock, which is designed to prevent anyone else from using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch if you ever lose it. It starts working the moment you turn on Find My iPhone in iOS 7. With Activation Lock, your Apple ID and password will be required before anyone can:

You cannot remotely undo a remote lock nor remotely unlock it.

What blacklist? There is no universal blacklist in the US. They're working on it, but it does not exist as of this writing.
Apple can't do anything about it. They are not a law enforcement agency.

Under apple's tech spec section they show 4 model numbers for Hong Kong but don't indicate which one is the unlocked version - the way they show data is very confusing - even if you put the phone in your shopping cart it shows a different "part number" than the model numbers shown for hong kong. According to Apple's list (link above) you will probably want to pick up a Sprint or US Cellular model. HOWEVER, as I mentioned above I know that the Verizon iPhones come unlocked from the factory (assuming it will be the same for iPhone 6 and 6+). I DO NOT KNOW if the Sprint and US Cellular models come unlocked. But I am sure some quick internet research will lead you to the answer.
I think your goal would be to get a Sprint or US Cellular version. Also I believe a law was just recently passed that allows someone to have a phone unlocked by the carrier no questions asked. So even if the Sprint and US Cellular iPhones are locked you can have them unlocked.

Ok, one of my problems is that when I arrive it will take me a few weeks to get a social security number and only t-mobile will give me a sim without a ssn - but edge for a few weeks will be better than no iPhone.

Then you won't be able to use that backup. You might as well delete it and start over.

Restored iPhone and Phone Number Disappeared!!

We restored our iPhone software and the phone number disappeared, and now the phone will not make or get calls!!

Having the same issue.
First tried returning "Home" after email got hung up (frozen) connecting - didn't work. Then tried a hard reset (power & home button), it appeared to reset, but now hung up on the boot screen (apple icon), that flashes every once in a while. Tried a hard reset again, to no avail. Any ideas?
