Unlocking Iphone help - Orange UK no Help and Suggest Jailbreaking

Below is my problem:

I am at a lost end.
I purchased an iphone locally.
I have had an orange account for over 2 years.
I rang up last friday to unlock my new phone to any network which they said was going through fine.
I then to be on the safe side filled out the online form also for this.
I received an email confirming this had been done and i will receive confirmation within 20 days.
Yesterday i received a text as below:
"Sorry, we can t complete the request to unlock your phone as the imei provided is not paired to this mobile number"
I called up again today to query this. I was told by customer services that they could not unlock the phone as i was not the original owner.
I asked what happens if the original owner was dead? Was told the phone would not be able to be unlocked.
I then asked what should i do? I was told to get the phone jailbroken!!!
I could not beleive this so asked for customer complaints and was told that orange a massive company do not have customer complaints.
I have then tried ringing back since and have been hung up on twice.
I am at my wits end with this shambles of a company and do not know what else i can do?
Can anyone help??
I thought jailbreaking is against apple policy and illegal???

There's nothing Apple can do. Unlocking is completely up to the cell carrier, and many will not unlock for someone who is not and has never been their customer. The carriers have absolutely no incentive to unlock a phone, so they often make policies as restrictive as they can get away with. In many cases, the only way this changes is due to government pressure or even legislation.
Sorry, but again, if Orange won't unlock for you, return or sell the iPhone.

Then you won't be able to use that backup. You might as well delete it and start over.

Please define "unlocked iphone 4". It is not clear what, exactly, you did or how it would have affected anything.

We do not help people with unlocked iPhones.
Make sure the switch on the side is set to ring, go to settings and make sure the sound is up and ring is on and all.
Other than that try to google a forum that deals with hacks.

I got a supposed to be "FACTORY UNLOCKED" iPhone 5 from the Apple Store yesterday I bought it for full price $649 plus tax, no commitment, no monthly payment, only the phone, but today when I want to use the phone and go into the setup process it asks me to insert a SIM Card into it in order to activate.. This is what the iPhone tells me "Activation Failed" "Please insert a SIM card" I can't even get into the Springboard so I have an expensive $650 bucks rock with me right now..
That means that the phone it's not unlocked at all? iPhone model is A1428.

Unlock iphone - have authorization but need help

I am trying to unlock my iPhone 5 so that I can pass it on to someone else.
I have gone ahead and backed up and restored the phone to factory settings just as a housecleaning step to clean out the phone . After I did that I found out that the phone is going to someone else so I requested unlock authorization from my carrier ATT which I have received.
Here is where I am confused. The instructions in the ATT email to unlock the phone states that I should backup and restore the phone again to factory settings. The problem is when I connect the phone to iTunes on my computer I see different options. The screen is Welcome to Your New Phone and it gives me the option to:
Set the phone us as new
Restore from this backup (which shows my latest backup)
I do not see on this screen the option to backup and I thought I did not want to restore from a backup but needed to select restore iPhone. So basically it seems like I put the carriage in front of the horse. Where do I go from here?

Okay, thanks. I selected Set up the phone as new and now see the phone in my Mac iTunes.
One more question, do I still need to backup the phone which will require me to set up the actual phone or can I skip that step and just restore phone?

Passcode unlock iPhone 4 brother died need help

There's no way that you can fix the issue. The components that charge the phone in the 30 pin dock are most likely fried, so the phone needs to be replaced. You could try to have it fixed at a place that repairs iphones, but i can't think of anything that you can do yourself to fix it

Will an unlocked iPhone 4S work with both CDMA and GSM SIM cards?

I was using the iPhone 4S with a GSM sim card all these years here in India and would like to switch to a CDMA carrier.
Does the phone work with both SIM cards? Or is there a separate model which works with CDMA?

HT4528 Can you buy an unlocked iPhone 5 off of this site and have it activated for Verizon service?

I am wanting to buy a new iPhone 5, but I am not eligable for an upgrade yet so I'm planning on just buying an unlocked one. I don't know if I can, though, because it doesn't say that you can activate it on Verizon's service. Any help?

The iPhone 5 for Verizon is unlocked for GSM networks worldwide. So you need to get a Verizon 5 for full price.

What do you mean by unlock the screen? Is there a passcode set on the iPhone? If so and this is from a family member, can that family member give you the passcode? If it has been forgotten then you must retore from recovery mode per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212

I bought my UNLOCKED iPhone 4 from the U.K and I dropped it in the water by mistake and took it to apple store they gave me a brand new iphone 4 but its locked! I don't use att! i activated the phone but when i inserted my t-mobil sim and says in the itunes its not supported! I told the apple genius that if the can give me a unlocked one they told me that i have to activate it that it will work but it didn't! what should i do? should i contact apple uk? do u think they would give me a new unlocked phone ?

You purchased an officially unlocked iPhone in the UK and your iPhone was exchanged under warranty where? In the UK or elsewhere? If in the UK, Apple doesn't have any AT&T carrier locked iPhones in the UK to sell new or for an exchange under warranty. If in the U.S., your iPhone would not be exchanged under warranty here since Apple does not sell the iPhone as unlocked in the U.S.
The full retail sales price for the iPhone is the same. The $199 sales price for the iPhone in the U.S. is AT&T's subsidized or discounted price which requires signing a two year contract. There is no difference whatsoever except for the iPhone being carrier locked.
If you are in the U.S. now, your officially unlocked iPhone purchased in the UK should not have been exchanged under warranty here. The iPhone does not have a worldwide warranty. Regardless where you are now, there is one place and one place only that can resolve this and that is the Apple store where your iPhone was exchanged under warranty, so return there.
