UNLOCKING THE BLACKBERRY DEVICE

Dear Sirs,
I travel a lot and like to take my blackberry 8900 curve with me and when abroad use a local sim to make calls etc., as it is significantly cheaper to do this. I have asked my service provider to do this but they have tried and failed in fact their attempt lead to my blackberry being blacklisted. This has now been lifted. I have received a new IMEI CODE from Vodaphone, with procedure instructions-
1 turn off the radio on the handset. Failure to do this could result in the handset becoming unusable. I however do not know how to disconnect the radio, in fact do not think I have such a facility. Pls clarify.
2 Go to advanced options-SIM CARD AND TYPE IN MEPD. I have tried that and nothing appears on the face of the phone. The sim card brings up Security disabled ID;-BLANK and on the next line a 20 digit number and two further lines, phone number blank and another line reading unknown number.
3 Type? mep? press and hold the ALT KEY and press ?2?.
4. you are now prompted to type in the unlock code.
Since I cannot go, past item 2 above the whole exercise is futile and terribly frustrating.
Pls help- the IMEI CODEon the phone.
Could someone send me proper details to sort this. It would be a great help as I am very frustrated with Vodaphone.
Many thanks
Homi

In that situation I suggest you should Reload the device software , if your current issue is because of any software glitch then an OS reload will resolve such problem , before reload first do a backup of your device using desktop software , once you have your backup refer to this Knowledge Base :

Does the blackberry device cdrom (blackberry user tools?) work with macs? Because it shows up but when I try to launch it nothing shows up.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

BlackBerry device CD that comes with your BB does not work on MAC. You need to download a program called PocketMac 4.1 from BlackBerry.com.
With the MAC program, you can sync calender, contacts, task, notes from your email client, load applications.
But features that comes with Desktop Manager (in the CD) like BackUp/Restore, Media Manager and email settings not available on PocketMac.
If I've been helpful please consider giving me kudos. Please remember to resolve your thread .

  • How to show the buttons of Lotus Notes Application at the BlackBerry device?

    Hi,
At the company I work for we use BlackBerry with Lotus Domino 7.x. We have a Lotus Notes Application (LotusScript) that read information from Oracle db and send email messages to users. In the e-mail we have three buttons, when we click on, they start an Oracle package with web browser.  When the users read this message in the desktop, the buttons appears, but when they read it from Blackberry, they can’t see the buttons.
Any idea how to make these buttons show at the BlackBerry device?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andréa

    Hi,
I will explain more.At my company we have a workflow application. The users can approve and deny when they receive an email by Lotus Notes, because we have a lotus script that read information from the db oracle  and send email messages with the three buttons(approve, deny, question) for the users. The problem is when we read the email from BlackBerry, the buttons didn’t appear.
     The Os version is 4.2.2.175.
I have an image with the example. How can I send for you ?
    Thanks,

  • Unlocking the BlackBerry Pearl

I have a BlackBerry Pearl from when I was with ATT phone service but now I have switched to T-Mobile.  When I called ATT to get them unlocked they gave me the unlock codes then told me that they cannot make it work and that I needed to contact BlackBerry directly that it is not their problem.  Can anyone please tell me how to unlock a BlackBerry Pearl if the Provider won't?
    Thanks
      Andrea

    hello,
    you have two issues.
first issue : allow your device to accept a SIM card from another carrier.
that is what is called unlock the device (it's also called "de-SIMlocking")
once that is done, you can use any SIM card in the world to use your device. What you will be able to do with just that :
    make/receive phone calls
    send/receive SMS
second issue : configure RIM's servers so that the dataflow gets to your device, through your new carrier.
it's called "release of the PIN", the PIN being in this case the serial number of your device. It's an 8 characters code.
you have to call your previous carrier, and tell them that you need the PIN released so that your new carrier can take over. You may need a proof of purchase of the device.
once that is done, you can link your BlackBerry Data Plan (the new one at your new carrier) to your device, using the BIS website of your new carrier.
then you have a full featured device.
The search box on top-right of this page is your true friend, and the public Knowledge Base too:

  • Syncing sent mail through the Blackberry device is a feature of BIS

We are using Blackberry Bold 9700 with BIS email plan instead of BES plan. But when we send the emails from Blackberry, and these sent emails doen't  show in the Sent Items in the Microsoft Outlook. We have Exchange 2003 server and Outlook 2003.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
It depends on several factors. First, it depends on how your the email server to which your BB, via BIS, is interfaced...the capabilities (when configured correctly) will be governed by this KB:
KB05133Email reconciliation features for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Second, it depends on how your Outlook is interfaced to your email server. If it is functioning via Exchange protocols, then it should see whatever the server has for Sent Items. If it is running a different protocol, then it is possible that it is not capable of receiving Sent Items from the server.
    Good luck!

  • Store the BlackBerry devices backup in a remote machine

    Hello guys,
I'm a new member of this BlackBerry comunity. I need your help with this issue: in my company, we created an IT Policy to enable the autobackup option in the backup and restore component of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. This rule, or policy, specifies how often the autobackup occurs (every 7 days) but doesn't the path where the file generated after every backup is saved.
We need to know if is possible to configure the Desktop Manager or BlackBerry Manager software in order to save (automatically) the backup file in a remote machine.
    Best regards

Write a server on the XP machine that takes requests and returns the results to your client on the Linux machine.
Or, find an MSAccess ODBC Driver for Linux (or Google for a Type 4 JDBC Driver for MSAccess, there is one, but it is not free) and share the filesystem.

  • Why can't you turn off the new message indicator on any of the blackberry devices?

i can't believe that i cannot turn off having my blackberry notifiy me when i get an email.  at the top of the homescreen i either get a "Message Count" or if I turn this off i get the little red asterik alert folder appearing, plus the mail icon gets a red asterik on it.  i don't want to see this and i know that many other users feel the same way.
has anyone figured out a way to turn this off?  if not, how can we let blackberry know they need to fix this in future models?  there are message boards all over the internet with this same complaint.
    a little more background:
    - the issue is on a saturday afternoon when i grab my phone to make a call, i don't want to see a little red asterik notifying me that i have a new message.  i also don't want to see a running count all the time.
    - i tried turning off the data plan part so new messages wouldn't reach me, but the problem with that is when i later turn the data plan back on, the new messages are not then sent.  they never each my phone.  seems the server tries sending them once and if the data plan is turned off they don't make it, but never make it.
i hope someone at blackberry reads this and they make this simple change in a future model.  i'll upgrade to it immediately when they do.  i love the device but hate being constantly reminded of new messages.

Hi dplindsey, and welcome to the foams!
It's also time for the 1am Eaddicts meeting to start
Here's the deal, Turn off all the notification, ring tones, led''s for emails.
Go to the main homescreen and hit the menu key twice select make a folder.
Go to your main message queue icon, highlight it and press menu, select MOVE.
Move the Icon in to folder.  TA DA!   It's GONE
Data plan is good so you can still browse the web. Emails are stil getting delivered so you arent missing any.

  • Where are stored / located the contacts list on the blackberry device

    Dear support staff
from time to time they happen those APP ERROR 523, 205 and so on
With utilities like BBSAK or BBMCP, you still have access to the devices, but you can save/dump/delete .COD files and maybe input RIM command line interface commands (WOW!, thouhg)
So the point it is, .COD files looks like to do not contain the contacts.
    Where are located the databases?
Is there any command line interface to dump them and save them in the case of APP ERRORs and white screens of death?
Thank you for your kind hints and replies
    Cor

    Hello,
Contacts are one of the databases stored in the protected AppMemory area, not accessible by any normal means. Rather, what one must do (IMHO) is practice good backup procedures...a recommended set for which is contained within the link in my auto-sig on this post.
Data recovery is not, and has never been, a reactive venture...protecting ones critical data is a matter of practicing good backup procedures on an ongoing basis.
    Good luck!

  • Dissappointed with the Blackberry Devices

I want to share my frustration as two weeks ago, my Torch 9860 started to freeze, so I decided to take out the battery and do a reset on the device!! This was a huge error as the device only loaded to 85% and stayed in that state! I erased the OS and reinstalled it again with no luck, so I went to my carrier so that they could look into the phone, only to find out that the phone had more than one year and the guarantee had expired and if I wanted to fix it it would cost me! My Playbook which I bought last November started out to be great, then two weeks a go the battery started to go crazy and wouldn't chage fully! No it does not charge and when it turns on it turns off right away! I never though Blackberry would make such bad devices! Seriously Blackberry I thought you where one of the best Mobile Phones makers, but now you're the worst! I was saving to buy the new Z10, but after what happened to both of the devices I had with I decided to switch to an android device, you JUST LOS ANOTHER CUSTUMER!

  • I've found 'Blackberry Device Manager' running in the background of my Mac? But its been deleted? How do I get rid?

I've just upgraded my MacBook Pro to a new Retina model, and while looking at the activity monitor I've noticed I still have an app running in the background that I thought had been deleted? Its the 'Blackberry Device Manager'? (See photo)
I've tried doing a spotlight search to try and find the program and delete? It's not in my apps list?
So I'm stuck and need some help? Thank you

That is a LaunchAgent. You will find it in the /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/ or /Library/LaunchAgents/ folder. To delete it you will have to first kill the process in Activity Monitor, then drag the file to the Trash and delete it. If the process reappears, then drag the item to the Trash and restart the computer, after which you can Empty the Trash.
    Exposing the /Home/Library/ Folder
Pick one of the following methods:
    A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.
    B. Click on the Desktop, press the OPTION (⌥) button, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.
    C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field:
    ~/Library
    Press the Go button.

  • The blackberry protect service is temporarily unavailable

I changed the sim on my phone and ever since I have the blackberry protect highlighted on my phone.  It says I need to log back in in order for my phone to be protected however everytime I attempt to log in the message "The Blackberry ID service is temporarily unavailable".
This has been going on for weeks now and my phone is not protected! Is there any reason it says unavailable? what can I do?
I am currently using wifi as my phone does not have roaming

    1) Register HRT: (OS5) Home Screen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > Scroll to any line entry and > press the Menu key > and then click Register Now. If you have an OS 6 or OS 7 device, Look at Options > Device > Advanced > Host Routing Table, etc.
    2) Resend Service Books: Article ID: KB02830 How to send the service books for a BlackBerry Internet Service account. http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
    3) Then, with the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescribed for most glitches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you!
