Unlucky recepient of the Troj/JSDldr-V "iTunes" trojan (turns itunes German, for starters). I have perused forums for how to remove the trojan nd cannot find anything for Mac (Sophos found, can't remove). Running a 2011 late model Macbook Pro 10.9.5

Hi! I was the unlucky recipient of the Troj/JSDldr-V "iTunes" trojan (turns itunes German, for starters). It arrived via a FedEx email that was in my Spam folder and somehow unleashed when I moved Spam to trash. (I saw a fake itunes update, clicked the red circle to close which might have been the trigger). Anyhoo, I am perplexed as to how to remove. My Sophos found it and isolated it afterwards, but has been unable to remove it as iTunes is already compromised - and everything being in German or faux German, I'm not about to enter any info as it cleverly prompts for admin user name and password. Sneaky buggers! I have perused forums and found it is likely spyware, but have been unsuccessful at finding how to remove for Mac (Sophos found threat, can't remove it). Running a 2011 late model Macbook Pro, 10.9.5. Any support would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm broke (as in homeless broke) and even if I had money, the nearest Apple store is a five hour drive away - a tad inconvenient and inaccessible. :-(  Karma points for helping, though! And I always pay it forward!

I'm getting kernel panics each day as I shut down, the message of restarting by holding down the power button appears on the screen - it began about a month ago and. Do you have any ideas of how to solve the problem? I've copied the logs that I found for each kernel panic that still have the message logged. Please help if you can, I have read some of the other comments and perhaps it has something to do with my anti-virus software being on at start up. I have copied the log here. Any advice will be welcome.

Immediate suspects are the additions you added to you rsystem that installed kexts (drivers).  From above,

    com.huawei.driver.HuaweiDataCardACMData            4.2
    Two experiments you can try.
    1.  Boot in safe mode and see if you can shut down normally.  All thise additions won't be running in safe mode so this test would indicate it is one of them causing the problem.
    2. Uninstall all the intego VirusBarrier stuff.  That's my first guess and the troublemaker.

  • HT4241 Can I connect audio to the TV for later model MacBook Pros?

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro and I got an HDMI mini Displayport to HDMI Adapter, but the audio doesn't transfer. Any idea if I need a different cord/cable etc?

If audio isn't passed then you will need to use the stereo audio out (headphone) jack on your MBP.
You need a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo jack at one end and (presumably) RCA jacks on the TV end.  These can be found most anywhere like your local Radio Shack or monoprice.com.
Note if the TV doesn't use RCA sockets for it's audio in then whatever it uses there's a audio cable or adapter for it for these same or similar sources.  Audio cables and adapters come in many combinations.

  • 10.6 will not install on a late model MacBook Pro

What a surprise ... FedEx just dropped off Snow Leopard and I popped the DVD into a less than a month old 2.8Ghz MacBook Pro running 10.5.8 with all other Apple software updated. I clicked on the Install Mac OSX icon, continue, agree to license and up comes a pic of my hard disk icon with a yellow triangle and exclamation point. When I select that disk (it's the only choice) to install I am told, "Mac OSX cannot be installed on "HD Name", because this disk cannot be used to start up your computer."
There are no other disks or peripherals of any kind connected.
The machine is running on the disk that I'm told "cannot be used to start up"
There are three user accounts. Only one is logged into and the account has admin
OK ... so I restart from the SL install DVD and select install ... same sequence, same result.
    Ideas?

I've spent the day dealing with AppleCare and the local Apple store on this issue. I've tried installing on 5 MacPros, 2 17" MBPs and one Mac Mini. The Mac Mini worked and all seven others got the exact same error you got.
I got the error while trying to install while logged in and by trying to install with booting off the SL disk. AppleCare thought the DVDs were bad and they seem to be using this as the answer to a number of problems. I went back to the Apple store and swapped all my DVDs and they also tested them there. Both the original set and the new set worked there but once again didn't work on mine.
AppleCare and the techs at the store are stumped at this point. I was going to be testing further but PGP has released a notice that if you're running PGP you should not install till PGP 10.0 comes out, which means that now I can't test any further until the new PGP release comes out.
Regardless, there does appear to be a serious issue here. Hopefully it will be fixed before PGP gets the next release out.
The seven Macs that failed were all Intel Macs and covered a variety of generations over the past few years. All were fully patched up to 10.5.8 and were running without issue.

  • Mac OS X 10.6 + EA SPORE = hang on late 2006 MacBook Pro

I have a C2D MacBook Pro with the Radeon X1600 video card. Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I've had a couple of hangs when playing SPORE. In at least one case, the kernel (likely a driver, I'm guessing the video driver) appeared to get into an infinite loop; sound worked fine, but the screen was hung, and when logging in remotely, kernel_task was taking 100% even after killing the application.
Just an FYI for now. If I can figure out how to get a set of kernel stacks, I'll do that.

sadly, I'm another frustrated custome that bought SPORE and cant even play one game. SPORE freezes the entire machine after approx 3 to 5 mins of play. I have searched the EA sites, found nothing except for people saying that EA should fix it, then EA saying that Apple should fix it and finally ATI should fix it. Meanwhile, NOONE is fixing it. Wish I could get my money back (Stores do not refund opened boxes).

  • Late 08 MacBook Pro Hard Freezing in Vista - Only Happens when in Firefox??

    Hi All,
I know there are many topics for macbook crashes etc but I think that "blue screens" or "freezing during intensive graphics" are among the many different issues out there, caused by different things. Personally I can play games perfectly fine, everything works perfect, all apart from one thing: Firefox.
I want to focus this topic on ONLY users who are finding their Late 08 MacBook Pro hard freezes but ONLY when using Firefox.
By "hard freeze" I mean the whole of vista locks up; no response keyboard/mouse, nothing, even closing the lid does not put it in standby. You physically have to press and hold the power button to restart it.
Out of the dozens and dozens of freezes I experienced on my macbook, absolutely 100% of the freezes occured while I was loading/browsing a page in Firefox. At one point it was happening within minutes of a fresh boot, but I'm right now posting using Internet Explorer, have been browsing for hours, using multiple tabs, and I have not experienced a single freeze.
Please everyone bear in mind, this is NOT a topic about your macbook crashing during 3D gaming, this is JUST about it crashing whilst firefox is active.
Who else here has noticed their computer freezing during web browsing in firefox? Think carefully, are you one of us?
What I don't understand is why only firefox? And how can such a simple single piece of software cause a hardware freeze? It seems very bizarre but it is definitely the cause for me, 100%.
I just want to establish that I am not alone here

    @ The hatter:
Just updated my info below btw
Vista is indeed current and up to date, with SP1 with Apple BC 2.1
I've done the sfc /scannow and it didn't find any problems.
I'm running the latest version of Firefox now (3.0.5), but I have been keeping it up to date, and used to run older versions. This doesn't seem to change anything. I run many extensions in Firefox, but as Mr Fusion says he's experienced crashes in both Google Chrome and Safari (I haven't tried them), I doubt that's the issue. However I'll install those browsers and test to see if I get the same results.
Ive run Vista 64-bit for two years and use FF daily, alolng with Opera some, IE7 (and now IE8 beta 2).
Does this mean you are not using a Late 08 MacBook Pro and are using the older model?
Turn off disk cache in Firefox? I usually do, because otherwise Safari and FF do a lot of disk I/O.
Yeah I have Offline Storage set to 0MB, assuming that is the setting you are referring to?
So shouldn't everyone who has a late 08 Macbook pro with Bootcamp be experiencing this problem? How come some of us have and some of us don't?
I think the problem is that this problem is quite intermittant and random. Sometimes I can use firefox for hours and hours without a crash, and other times it'll happen relatively quickly.

  • 120GB Vertex SSD not recognized in Late '08 Macbook Pro

    Hi there,
I can't seem to get my late '08 macbook pro (MacbookPro5,1, unibody, 2.53ghz) to recognize my new Vertex 120GB. It hangs at the blank light blue screen, or sometimes gets the folder icon with question mark on it.
Oddly enough, if I put the SSD in an external USB/SATA enclosure, it boots right up. Also, if I stick it in my other unibody macbook, it boots up just fine.
So it seems the problem only exists when it's the internal drive of my macbook pro (10.5.6, all software up to date). I've tried resetting the PRAM and resetting the SMC, to no avail.
    About the SSD:
    * The SSD is still firmware 1199, as I haven't upgraded yet - but I don't imagine this is the problem since many others here seem to be running 1199 just fine.
    * I formatted as HFS+ (GUID) and then restored my data onto it using SuperDuper. The fact that it boots in the macbook & over USB indicates that the drive is set up fine.
Any ideas out there are much appreciated!

  • I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.  I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV?  I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV.

I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.  I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV?  I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV.  This feature seems to be lost in the Mountain Lion upgrade.  Did Apple feel that once Mountain Lion came out that EVERYONE would have Apple TV?  There are no settings in System Preferences/Display like there used to be...only for AirPlay Mirroring.

Running a cable to the HDMI port is still supported. (and still works on mine).
If the Arrangement tab in System Preferences > Displays isn't present then it doesn't recognize the physical connection.  Double check all cables.  If that doesn't work try a PRAM reset:

  • I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro last updated to Mavericks OS.  The screen died and it's not worth replacing.  How do I remove the hard drive and use a drive sled to access info I need?

I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro last updated to the Mavericks OS.  The screen died and I took it into an Apple store and was told replacing the screen and the hardware to repair everything would cost almost as much as buying a new laptop or a cheaper model.  I was told that I can use a drive sled to access data I need on my hard drive. How do I remove my hard drive and use a drive sled to get to the information I need?  What makes matters more complicated is I need to update my iPhone and my iTunes/App store purchases.  How can I accomplish this?
My wife has a late 2008 Macbook Pro as well, which I am assuming I need to run my hard drive.  Is there a way to just access just my hard drive without interfering with hers?
I know this is lengthy.  Thanks to whoever looks at this and offers advice/instruction.

the device you need is an External enclosure for a 2.5" (laptop form factor) SATA drive.
A USB-interface enclosure will be slow, but is adequate for this task and for re-purposing as a backup drive later.  A firewire-interface drive would be faster, but is harder to find, more expensive, and faster than needed for this purpose.
The drive will mount as an "extra" drive on your wife's Macbook, and you can drag and drop whatever you wish. You could create a separate Account for yourself on her computer, and use Migration Assistant or just copy your stuff over to the new account. Then it would not interfere with her files.

Anyone else having extra long delivery time for the late 2013 macbook pro 15" 2.6ghz 1tb model?
As of today feb 15 i have been waiting for 78 days. Finland doesn't have an official apple store (only authorized resellers) It was my mistake because i should have bought from apple.com. But i think 2.5 months is too long and i have no information about when i can get it..

    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 256 GB SSD costs $2,000.
    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,300.
With 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD it costs $2,500.
    The high-end 15” rMBP with a 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,600.
All cost $500 dollars more with a 1 TB SSD.
So the SSD size is not a differentiating factor unless you prefer 256 GB.
If you think you need 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD then you might as well spend the extra $100 for the high-end model.
The high-end model will make a difference on gaming and graphics-oriented applications.
They tend to run other applications at about the same speed.
Both models are rated with 8 hours of battery life.
Benchmarks on PhotoShop comparing memory sizes:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5659174?tstart=30
The speed was about 10% different between 8 GB and 16 GB models.
On other applications your mileage may vary.
    Application benchmarks:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2059215/15-inch-retina-macbook-pro-review-a-tale -of-two-laptops.html
The low-end and high-end performed the about the same on non-graphics oriented applications.
    Graphics oriented benchmarks:
On the Cinebench OpenGL benchmark the high-end was about twice as fast.
On the Unigine Heaven Benchmark benchmark they ran at about the same speed.
On the Unigine Valley Benchmark benchmark the high-end was about 1.5x as fast.

What country are you in ? Depending upon what country that you are in then you might be able to redownload them on your Mac's iTunes via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the iTunes store homepage
