Unmanaged switch outputs only 10MBs

Hello All,
I have a VDSL DLink router connected to a Cisco SF100D-08P. When I connect my laptop straight to the router I get 40MBPs which is my ISP's speed. When I connect the router to the switch and then the laptop to the switch I only get 10Mbps. Also my WIFI access point (also Cisco) that is connected to the switch gives me 10MBPS. Looks like port negoitiation between router and switch is not working well and settles on 10MBPS. I tried checking with difference cables, laptops etc.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Yoni

Hi Yoni, does your network connection status indicate you're connecting at 10 mbit ? Can you check the router status to see what the LAN port negotiated at with the switch ?
You may try to manually set your computer and/or the router LAN port to 100 full duplex to see if it fixes it.

  • Best practice for unmanaged switch to cisco switch

In our environment, I have to allow some users to have a unmanaged switch which is connected to access port.
I put this configuration for each port which is connected to unmanaged switch (Netgear 8 port)
     interface GigabitEthernet1/0/47
     switchport port-security maximum 3
     spanning-tree guard root
    end
     port-security maximum 3: only allow 3 mac
spanning-tree guard root: just in case to protect root bridge if someone put managed switch with lower bridge ID.
I connected one cable from unmanaged switch to another port to make a loop for test.
It showed that switch got "Loop-back detected" and put err-disable port automatically. So I don' t need to worry about this.
    Apr  7 18:33:01.370: %ETHCNTR-3-LOOP_BACK_DETECTED: Loop-back detected on GigabitEthernet1/0/47.
    Apr  7 18:33:01.370: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: loopback error detected on Gi1/0/47, putting Gi1/0/47 in err-disable state
Apr  7 18:33:02.373: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface GigabitEthernet1/0/47, changed state to down
Apr  7 18:33:03.379: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet1/0/47, changed state to down
    LAB_HQ_Fiber(config-if)#
What are the option do you use usually to protect from unmanaged switch?
I am not able to use "spanning-tree bpduguard" because it will block a port
I can use "spanning-tree bpdufilter" to protect a STP area, but I don't think this is a big matter.

    Hello
If you need to attached these kind of switches/hubs - Make sure you shutdown all unused ports on the managed switch so to limit any further unauthorized attachments looping back into the network from the unmanageable device, This way you can managed these unmanageable devices to a certain extent.
As for the stp root, you should manually set your stp priority on the managed switch to a low level anyway so as to not allow any other new device negotiate its self to become the root, and for the ports you are aware of that will have these devices attached, i would disable portfast and also advise against using bpdufilter as this negates the stp process.
    Int range fa0/x -xxx
    description unmanaged devices
    no cdp enable
On all managed switches and on all ports you DONT expect to have unmanaged hubs/switches I would suggest to apply
    spanning-tree loopguard default
    udld enable
    udld aggressive
    int range fa0/x -xxx
    description access ports
    switchport port-security
    switchport port-security aging type inactivity
    switchport port-security violation restrict/shutdown
    switchport port-security maximum 2
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpduguard enable
    spanning-tree guard root
    no cdp enable
One last thing I also wouldn't enable error recover either, as you would want to know the reason why your ports are erroring and not go chasing your tail as the reason why your having intermittent network issues.

  • Cisco sg 100d unmanaged switch not connecting to network

I have a Cisco sg 100d-08 unmanaged switched that had been working just fine for several months  but now devices attached to the network thru are no longer on the network.  All lights are on indicating the ports are active.  Tried power recycle but no joy. When I replaced the switch with an old Belkin model everything works fine.  Is there anyway to reset this unmanaged switch or do I now just have an expensive paper weight?

When the management interface is part of VLAN x
Make sure that the management interface vlan id is set to 0  (untagged ) If the native vlan on the switch trunk connected to controller is vlan x. If the native vlan is something else make sure to tag the mangement interface vlan with x.
Another interesting thing that might happen with switch having the following command enabled:
    SW(config)#dot1q tag native
In that case all trunk native vlan frames will be tagged , so you have to tag the management vlan on the controller as well in that case.
To be able to troubleshoot such connectivity problem, you should get the output of:
    show run int
    show interface <\\ > switchport
the latter command should be your best friend.
One recommondation, make sure to tag your management / ap-manager interface with vlan id  to maintain QoS limiting based on dot1p values for downstream traffic from the wired side.
In the above scenario , If you can provide the output of show interface <\\> switchport
I should tell you why the recommended action solved your issue based on the above explanation, and if you would like I can maitain the tag for you.

  • SD205 (unmanaged) switch and VLANs

In addition to all my Cisco Catalyst (managed) switches, I have a bunch of Linksys SD205 unmanaged switches on my LAN.
I want to configure my network for VLANs, which means I will be changing all of my Cisco managed switches to a "trunking" configuration.   This configuration is working correctly with the Cisco Catalyst switches
Question: can the SD205 function in this environment?  I know I can't set any of the ports on the SD205 to be "trunking", but I would like to connect the SD205 to a Cisco port that is "trunked", so the devices on the SD205 can communicate to the rest of the world.
So far, I have not been successful, so -- maybe they just won't work in a trunked environment.  Anyone have a definitive answer?  If they simply can't do it, I'll stop wasting my time!
    Thanks

No. An unmanaged switch does not support 802.1q. It will drop any ethernet frame that has been 802.1q tagged. The only frames which go through an unmanaged switch are untagged frames, i.e. the native VLAN of the port on the Catalyst.
If you want to use unmanaged switches you have to connect them to a port configured in access mode, member of a single VLAN. For example, you can configure a port on the Catalyst for access mode in VLAN 10 and connect an unmanaged switch to this port. Then all devices connected to the unmanaged switch will be VLAN 10. This is as much as you can do.
But getting multiple VLANs through unmanaged switches is impossible as all ethernet frames on the unmanaged switch must be untagged.

  • [SOLVED]X11 video output only with ati open source drivers

    Hi everyone,
my nvidia graphics card died recently and I replaced it with an ATI Radeon HD 4870, which in hindsight might have been a mistake.
I installed the catalyst driver at first, ran into some problems, finally decided to switch to the open source xf86-video-ati driver. Followed the ati wiki, but ended up with X11 video output only. Can't watch anything full screen, general performance is sluggish. The output of xvinfo is:
    screen #0

  • Unmanaged switch with CDP?

I am trying to find an unmanaged cisco switch that has cdp.  Technically the switch doesn't have to be unmanaged, but I am looking for a cheep switch with only 5-10 ports that also has cdp.  I can't be sure if the small cisco SD series switches, formerly s***sys, have cdp now or not.

    Brannor:
    E.g. switch (testString.hashCode()) {
case ("case 1".hashCode())...This won't work. You need a constant expressions for the cases, a method like hashCode() won't work there.
    Yogee:
    1. Different Strings are not guaranteed to generate different hashcodes.True, but its such a unlikely event that the strings' hashcodes will be equal that someone would still be able to do this reasonably in some situations. but I wouldn't do this in my code
    2. The algorithm used to generate the hashcode is not guaranteed to be the same on different platforms. There is a String hashcode formula, and its not ambiguous. The method is implemented entirely in java and so it will be the same on different platforms. Object.hashCode() though can be different on different platforms.
    3. The algorithm used to generate the hashcode is not guaranteed to be the same on different
java versions. We can use that argument against writing anything in the API though, since the language can always change. Has Sun ever indicated that they might want to change the API specs for Strings's hashCode?

  • Toggle 'digital output only"--Is there a way to create a shortc

Hi,I have Audigy SE with Digital I/O module. I run optical cable from the digital i/o module to my home theater. I also run 3.5 mm cable from green output of audigy card to my vintage 995 Altec Lansing analog 2.0 speakers. The idea is to be able to switch to little speakers and still hear the computer while the wife watches the television. The downside is that switching requires going through the control panel and several steps to un-check the digital output only box in the Audigy properties. Is there a way to write a program to toggle the digital/analog output from a single desktop shortcut/button?ThanksB

Check the source code of gegeg's fix for digital-out resetting (it's a sticky thread). The program turns on the digital out but it can be modified to toggle it.

  • Unmanaged Switches

Do unmanaged switches for ex. 3com officeconnect unmanaged 8 port switches have MAC address tables.
For ex. I have a 8 port 3com unmanaged switch connected to port 0/1 on a 3750 switch.
Does the unmanaged switch keep track of the MAC addresses that it has for its 8 ports ? or is it like a hub and repeates the signal ?
If it doesnt have a MAC address table, wouldnt it be considered a Layer 1 switch ?

yes even nonmanagable switch also keep their MAC address table in order to perform the switching function...they are able to do all the normal switching function which we can able to do in our manageable switch...the only thing is you cannot configure it to make it work for your purpose...
and when ever you are talking about layer1 device then they always going to have broadcasting of packet as they are not using any addressing...so those devices are only having brodcast...
    hope this will help you

  • Dtt3500 and Audigy Gamer, digital output only 2 channel unless its D

Ok I recieved a response concerning my last comment but unfortunatly it did not answer my question at all. I have a DTT3500 and a sound blaster Audigy Gamer hooked up with the digital out to the /8 din adapter. I try the advanced 3d demo that came with the Audigy software and I only hear the front 2 channels, no center and no rears. The demo where you move the little icons and sound moves along with it. I have 5. activated in my windows control center along with audioHQ and digital out only is selected. my DTT3500 has 4./5. digital selected along with dolby digital/pcm audio and digital in. I am not getting the effect of multisurround at all. My center works and my rears work because playing music I can use all 5 speakers. When I use the analogue outputs I hear multisurround from the advanced 3d demo but my center doesnt work. The analogue setup sounds better but without a center channel its useless to me. Am I doing something wrong? I am using the adapter and digital DIN, what gives? The only reason I noticed I wasnt getting surround was while playing games nothing comes from behind you even on 5. games. The goldmine demo doesnt even work right, when the bird flys behind you it disappears but there is still sound from the rears. Analogue fixes this without a center but the manual and setup say to use the digital din. Do I just have a setting wrong? I would like to experiance the full capacity of multispeakers in my games.

    Dennis,
With these speakers the connection that I would suggest would be to use the Digital out on the back of the sound card into the DIN Input on the DTT3500's. This will require a converter cable for /8'' Minidin to standard DIN which can be purchased from here:
    http://us.creative.com/products/prod...0&product=0375
You will also need a standard DIN cable (one should have shipped with your DTT3500's).
This should give you 5. with digital output only enabled on the Audigy.

  • How do I configure Time Capsule to work with 8 port unmanaged switch?

This is what I want to end up with.
    cable modem
    Time Capsule
wireless network           8 port unmanaged switch TRENDnet TEGS80G
entertainment center(TV, xbox 360, dvd, apple tv, ect...)
I have been using the above setup with an E3000 router in place of the time capsule without any problems, and was expecting to just be able to switch out the E3000 for the time capsule and keep right on rolling. At the moment, without the switch plugged in, using the time capsule as a stand alone wireless router, everything works as intended. However, I don't want to have every device in the house pulling off of wireless. Whenever I plug my switch in I lose internet connectivity. I assume this is because both the switch and the Time Capsule are trying to direct traffic and creating a conflict. I have attempted to disable the NAT in the Airport Utility and this is what happens.
Where do I go from here, or am I heading in completely the wrong direction?

Unfortunately, you are on the wrong track, heading in the wrong direction at the moment.
We need to learn whether you have a simple modem or a modem/router.
This will determine whether the Time Capsule is to be configured in router mode to provide DHCP and NAT services for the network......or if your "modem" is already doing this.....the Time Capsule needs to be configured in Bridge Mode.
So, I suggest that you disconnect the switch from the Time Capsule for now, and power everything off except the modem, Time Capsule and the computer you are using to configure the Time Capsule, and get things working correctly first. Then, devices can be added one at a time to verify proper operation.
If this seems to make sense to you, and you want to move forward, please post back with the make and model number of your cable modem.

How do you switch output sounds   set to my external monitor that is connected via HDMI.

    Hello gail from Ajijic,
If you'd like to change the audio output of your Mac, you can do so by accessing the Sound preferences in your System Preferences.
Before you start, open the Output pane of Sound preferences (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, then click Output).
    Choose a sound output device
From the list of sound output devices, select the one you want to use. All sound output devices available to your Mac are listed, including the computer’s internal speakers, devices plugged into your computer’s sound port (), USB speakers, and AirPlay devices.
For any device plugged into the computer’s sound port, choose Headphones.
OS X Yosemite: Adjust your computer’s sound output settings
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,

  • Triggering Invoice Output only first time

    Hi,
I want to trigger an Invoice output(Email : External Send medium)  only when it is created for the first time.
The reason for doing this :  The document generated is a contract invoice  and some additional warranty info needs to be in body of the email for the partner types maintained in the contract.
Also is there a way we can get the Bold Text in the email. I am using some standard texts to build email body and then calling
    SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1u2032 .
    e.g. Contract Number:  12345
Appreciate if anyone has worked on such scenario.  I am considering  using routines.
    Thanks,

To Issue output only once, do the following setting
Go to Transaction code NACE -> Select the Application (V3-for Billing -> Click on Output types -> Select the required output type -> Click on View Button -> Remove the Tick mark from the option "Multiple Issuing".

  • Address fields output only

    Hi,
In our IC webclient, when we enter a business partner, if nothing is entered in the address fields it creates ok but when we come back to change the partner again, the address fields are output only, so we can't enter anything in them. If we do enter address details when we create the partner, they are available ok for changing at a later date.
Can anyone offer any advice on how we solve this ? I've taken a look at transaction BUCG. The fields in question are set to 'optional'.
    thanks,

  • How to make pricing field as output only in sales order header and item lev

    Hi ,
I want to make the field PRICING DATE as output only both at header and item level. How can i do pls guide me in detail.
    Regards
    Sunaina

    Hi Sunaina ,
Through User Exit you get this requirement plese take help of ABAPer to activate the user exit according to your requirement.
    Try With this User Exit
    Program MV45AFZZ
    USEREXIT_FIELD_MODIFICATION
This user exit can be used to modify the attributes of the screen fields.
To do this, the screen fields are allocated to so-called modification groups 1 - 4 and can be edited together during a modification in ABAP. If a field has no field name, it cannot be allocated to a group.
The usage of the field groups (modification group 1-4) is as follows:
Modification group 1: Automatic modification with transaction MFAW
Modification group 2: It contains 'LOO' for step loop fields
Modification group 3: For modifications which depend on check tables or on other fixed information
Modification group 4: is not used
The FORM routine is called up for every field of a screen. If you require changes to be made, you must make them in this user exit.
This FORM routine is called up by the module FELDAUSWAHL.
See the Screen Painter manual for further information on structuring the interface.
I hope it will help you,
    Regards,
    Murali.
