Unmount of /home failed (45)

I have verbose mode enabled, and when I shut down my MBP I gets the error:
unmount of /home failed error (45)
unmount of /net failed error (45)
and it hangs.  I need to force shut down at that point.
This is an intermittent error I have had for a while.  And it seems to happen when the machine has run for maybe a week or longer on end (it sleeps in-between), and not when it is only up for a day or two.
I do not seem to be able to find any reports under 'Diagnostic and Usage Messages' in console.
I suspect that the error happens earlier, but have no clue as to why and how.
Googling showed that Kaspersky or Parallels, might be a culprit , but I have never had these installed.
I repaired permission but no succes there either.
Anybody any idea?

I use verbose mode too and I get the same failed error each time I shut down my Mac Pro but the shutdown proceeds to power off without issue. I wonder if the problem is instead related to the lines above it. It looks like you've got your system drive separate from your data drive. Also, do you have Time Machine running, perhaps over a network? The "Reply queue not empty?" may be related to that and may be the real problem.

  • Unmount of home failed 45 unmount of net failed 45

My 8 core mac pro will not turn off
    unmounting of home failed 45
    unmount failed net of 45

I had the same problem happening with my 27' iMac with OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). After trying out everything that was suggested (repair permissions, empty caches etc. etc.) and almost giving up on this after many days, I eventually found out that the culprit was Kapersky 2011 Antivirus Mac! I had installed the software for testing purposes, and then trashed the application again, because I didn't like it. Since then I had this shutdown problem.
I finally found out that I can fix the problem by downloading the 30 day trial version of the Kapersky software once again and use the uninstaller included in the .dmg to remove any traces/leftovers from the Kapersky software.

    Dear DS Store,
Thanks for the response.  (Is this what you mean in your step by step tutorial by giving credit?)
I should also preface my run-through of your tips by noting that my wife's Macbook air will shut down properly and get past the "unmount of /net failure" business without problems if I do not run iTunes (current version 10.6.1).  I can run Microsoft Office, Chrome, Mail etc no problem without triggering this problem.  In these circumstances I've been able to see that the next messages that SHOULD show up after the "unmount of /net failed (45)" are:
    done
    MACH Reboot
    wlEvent EN0 EN0 Link DOWN
(These lines blink by so quickly that I couldn't read them, I had to freeze frame a video I made of a proper shutdown sequence).
However, when I run iTunes, I ALWAYS get this failure where it freezes after the "unmount of /net failure (45) line" and is never able to shut down properly.
This problem occurs with both local accounts as well as with mobile users syncing to my portable home directory server.  (Even with a local account with nothing in the iTunes library).
I should also note that before I got your response to my question, I had already undertaken to reinstall OS X (with full software update done immediately after), and still was encountering the same problems after.
    Regarding your steps:
Step #1 SMC reset - Done, did not change outcome - still hung at shutdown
Step #2 PRAM reset - Done, still hangs at shutdown
Step #3 Startup manager - not done as I have no problem with getting into the boot volume
Step #4 - Repair disk - DIsk repaired using Lion recovery HD, no errors found, did not change outcome
Step #5 - reset home directory permissions and ACLs - done for all local accounts, portable home directory accounts, root - still hanging at precisely the same point
Step #6 - hardware test not done, problem seems to be software/OS related.  (going to run extended tests overnight)
Step #7,8 - did not seem pertinent to this situation, as it is possible to boot into all accounts no problem.
Step #9 - all data backed up on Time Machine, and also synced to server
Step #10 - software updated done
Step #11 - permissions repaired - still problematic
Step #12 - Onyx cache cleaning - plists check out fine, cleaned out all caches (except system logs), did all the maintenance tabs (did pretty well everything I could see as options) - problem still persists.  (I had hoped that cleaning kernel and dyld caches might do the trick, but no).
Step #13 - Deleted ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.whatever and anything.plist (3 files altogether) - same problem.  (There did not appear to be any other corrupt plists that needed deletion)
Step #14 - Activity monitor - no runaway processes.  mdworker busy, but due to spotlight caches being purged in step 12. System Diagnostic log shows nothing.
Step #15 - there isn't any third party software on my wife's macbook air that isn't running on my own macbook air and macbook pro (both of which are not facing this problem).  I tried to uninstall and reinstall iTunes prior to getting your advice (this is a PITA, by the way!!!!), and had ended up with 10.6.0 installed (since the downloadable installer from Apple at the moment isn't the latest 10.6.1 version), and software update not recognizing the need to update, which is when I went ahead and reinstalled OSX. This did not clear the problem.
Step #16 - created a brand spanking new account called test.  Problem continues to occur with the new account.
At this moment am wanting some feedback on what you think sofar of the problem before I go ahead and do something more destructive or tedious.
I should note that I do not seem to be able to find any reference to the problem in the system.log or kernel.log files in Console.  When I look through kernel.log there is nothing logged around the time the failure to shut down occurs, and in system.log, the last logged item is usually 1-2 seconds before I get the stream of other stuff that occurs as shown in the screenshot above, which includes a statement to the effect of "Userspace shutdown finished at [timestamp here]" etc etc....  I do not know if this other stuff is logged elsewhere, or not at all, as I have never seen this stuff in the logs in console.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Using patch plans for 12.1.0.2 target oracle home fails with 'PREREQ_MESG: Unable to get the version of OPatch'

We are attempting to use patch plan to apply PSU and one-offs to a new 12.1.0.2 database oracle home.  Our EM version is 12.1.0.4.
We are experiencing the same issue described in ''Bug 20271609 : Unable to get the version of OPatch".   This bug is closed as 'duplicate bug to filer' but we do not appear to have visibility into what patch/bug fixes the issue.
Description from the above mentioned bug is our same issue.  We do not have this issue when we use patch plans against an 11.2.x oracle_home target.  It is unique to 12.1.0.2 oracle_home target.
    Description from the bug:
The Plan failed in step "Run Prerequisite Checks" with the following errors:
    PREREQ_NAME: Minimum Version of OPatch
PREREQ_DESC: Check if the required version of OPatch is present on the target
    PREREQ_TYPE: PATCH_TOOL_CHECK
    PREREQ_STATUS: FAILED
PREREQ_MESG: Unable to get the version of OPatch at
    /u01/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_2/Opatch
We have opened an SR to see if we can get more info on what was already identified as a bug.  Has anyone else experienced this issue?  If so, can you share any patches or workarounds (other than manually applying patches) that you found useful?
    Thanks.

You'll probably get the same info from Support, but the workaround is to use the Patch Database (however that doesn't work if there's no DB target associated to that home).   If you were trying to do patchign out of place (clone home, patch, then move db's), EM can do this for you.   If you're just installing a new DB Home and trying to patch, then i don' think there's another workaround.  The base bug is marked fixed though, so a backport for the 12.1.0.6 plugin should be available very soon.  I would ask the support analyst to request the backport for your plugin/patch level...

Does anyone have an Idea what to do? Thanks!
    Johannes

I noticed one thing, but that's not to say there's not other problems too: your syslog-ng is still running. At that point in shutdown, I think all your daemons including it should be shut down. I don't know why it's still running. Do you just launch it by putting "syslog-ng" in your DAEMONS array in /etc/rc.conf? It's possible that you're not really getting an accurate picture here of the state of your system at shutdown. I debug these issues by hacking /etc/rc.shutdown. Before the "Unmounting Filesystems" block you could do a
lsof / # I think this is the way to display only open files on the root filesystem, but you should read man lsof to be sure
    ls /var/run/daemons
read -p "continue? " reply # pause here
    ...rest of /etc/rc.shutdown

  • Automated Disk Mount/Unmount via diskutil fails?

    Greetings, all.
    Here's what I have:
A PM G5 with two HDs each identically partitioned into three parts
A desire to automate a backup routine that will run every night while I sleep and not have to stare at the back-up drive partitions all day long.
    Here's what I've done:
    1. Created a script with PsyncX to automate the backup. (Some of the script text is below, if you're interested.)
    2. Edited the script to contain:
    diskutil mountDisk /dev/disk0
    What happens:
If I run the script by hand by calling it directly (sudo /etc/Backup.sh), the script mounts all three partitions, syncs to the back-up, and un-mounts all three back-up partitions when done.
    Perfect.
If however, I run this from a cron job, it does not mount any of the partitions, and hence the back-up does not run. (Incidentally, it works perfectly on our server, but does not run on the desktop...)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    -B.

2 iBooks and an iMac Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes, it is running. I've added lines like:
    echo 'mark 1' >> /var/log/System_Backup.log
to the script. Lines above the diskutil line show and a line directly following the diskutil line shows in the log, but it never goes any farther than that.
The big issue here is that this script works... If I run I call it from the command line with:
    sudo /etc/Backup.sh
    Then it operates as advertised.
If cron calls /etc/Backup.sh it fails.
    So, perhaps the questions are:
Is this a permissions issue? I think cron runs as root by default, no?
Is this a diskutil problem? If so, how do I get some feedback from diskutil? Nothing shows up in the console or system logs, and if I run it by hand, it works properly.
Is this a difference between OS X server and OS X? The machine that this is working on is running Server 10.4.8, and the machine that it is not working on is running "the normal" 10.4.8.
Is this a /dev/disk0 vs a /dev/disk1 problem? It's working on the server with /dev/disk1, and not of the desktop with /dev/disk0.
Thanks for all of the help so far.
    -B.

  • OC4J:HOME failed to initialize after installation of ADF Runtime

    Hi Everyone!
I already asked this question in the Jdeveloper forum but I have some questions with regards to the OAS that's why I am reposting it again...
I am trying to deploy an application developed using Jdeveloper 10.1.3 in Oracle 10g AS version 10.1.2 residing in a different server. I have followed the steps required in deploying to an older version of OAS. I recompiled my applications to use J2SE1.4. I have also downloaded the standalone ADF Runtime Installer so that I can install the ADF components in OAS.
After the installation of the ADF Runtime, my oc4j:home process failed to initialize/startup. When i try to manually start it in the OEM, i received the following errors:
An error was encountered while loading page. Entity not found.
    Resolution:
    Entity not found
    Base Exception:
    The plugin OC4J did not have any documents associated with the Document Key OC4J_INSTANCE_ID:home;
    Resolution:
Contact Oracle Support. Exception thrown by plugin "orionp":
    The plugin OC4J did not have any documents associated with the Document Key OC4J_INSTANCE_ID:home;
    Resolution:
    Contact Oracle Support
There are no logfiles as well... When I tried to uninstall the ADF Runtime using the installer, i got the following error:
Uninstall Option is not supported for AS.
For the OAS gurus, I just want to know if its possible to recreate the oc4j:home?
Can i just delete the problematic oc4j:home and just create a new one?
We already have some forms-based applications that are running in our OAS. Will it still work properly if I recreated the oc4j:home?
    Thanks!
    JED

/OraHome/j2ee/home/confirm/server.xml check this xml file and it is empty or not. If it is empty than copy server.xml.old file in the same path directory to your server.xml file. Then try to start your home instance again.

Two other devices, an ipod touch and an older Powerbook, also connect to the modem but almost never have any connection problem.

I have a Belkin Wireless N router at home that my iPhone connects to beautifly...Except for the fact that it reverts to EGDE for web pages, and cannot connect to the iTunes store.
I own a coffee house, and there I have a Linksys G router, and it connects with no problems at all. iTunes music store works great there, downloaded a song and all.
I am going to try going to a static IP adress and remove the erroneous 192.168.2.1 in the DNS listing. I believe this to be a problem with Belkin Routers. I spent an hour on tech support with them and no luck yesterday.

  • MacBook doesn't fully restart

    Hello,
I'm running Leopard 10.5.2 on a Macbook. I have a strange problem: it doesn't fully restart but it does shutdown.
When I hit Shutdown, the computer shuts down without any problem. But if I hit Restart, then everything is apparently normal and the screen turns off, but the fans and the sleep light keep on. I then have to hold the power button down until the computer turns off.
I have checked for applications that could prevent the restart, but I couldn't find anything. I tried to reset the PRAM and SMC, without any results. I also used the boot verbose mode where I got the same for both modes except for the last line:
    continuing
    unmount of /home failed (45)
    unmount of /net failed (45)
    done
    WARNING: etherdetachinet6 can't detach ipv6 from en1
    (Restart) MACH Reboot
    (Shutdown) CPU Halted
I don't know what do these errors mean, but as they both appear when shutting down or restarting, I guess they're not the problem. But are they any problem?
Is this some kind of firmware problem? Can anybody help? Thanks!

I also have the exact same issue... though it took a while to figure out as the nvram text just blinks on the screen for a second while shutting down.
Any ideas out there? For some reason I feel the IPv6 leaves me vulnerable despite running Little Snitch and Netbarrier firewall
