Unnecessary Acrobat 9 Warning in PDF Portfolio

When I open a PDF Portfolio using Acrobat 9 Professional, I get a screen advising "For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in
Acrobat 9 or Adobe Reader 9, or later."
This is both unnecessary and confusing. Is this standard behavior, and if so is there some way to prevent it?

fwiw,
The ability to upload a file attachment to any of the Adobe Forums has been "off" for some time.
An easy alternative is to open a free acrobat.com account. Upload a copy of the problem Portfolio to it.
Use the share feature to provide a link that lets anyone participating here download the file for a look-see.
Easy, free, and may result in resolution(s).

  • Acrobat X Pro PDF Portfolio does not display video correctly

    Windows XP
    Acrobat X Pro
SWF file, also SWF file converted to PDF
I am trying to place an SWF file in a portfolio so that the first frame of the video will be visible as the user pages through the portfolio. All I see is a white screen. When I double-click it and then then click "open file" the PDF version at least plays fine. But I can't seem to get the preview to display correctly.
    Can anyone provide any help?
    Thanks!

  • Change order in Acrobat Pro XI pdf portfolio

I can't seem to change the order of my portfolio in Acrobat Pro XI.  My portfolio layout is Click-Through.  When I drag an item on the mini-navigator bar at the bottom and move to a new spot and let go when I have the vertical insertion line, the item doesn't move and bounces back to original spot.  Can anyone help me, please!

I'm having the same issue. Once files are in the portfolio, Acrobat XI will not allow me to click and drag them to a different order. I despise Acrobat XI.

  • Acrobat Pro DC PDF Portfolio Edit

Have upgraded to Pro DC from 10X - some great new features and some remind me of Windows 8 type going backwards functionality. Having trouble editing the sequence of documents in a Portfolio. Seems there is a rather elaborate ordering systems were you select size, name etc and then you select the method you want.In 10X you would just click "edit" and you could select and drag the files into any order you wanted. I cannot find this in Pro DC - it seems to want to just offer you a preset ordering system all of which do not seem to allow you to take say 10 files and put them in any random order you want. Anyone know how to manage this?

Have been testing this and it is proving to be a very convoluted design. I really appreciate your help so I am merely advising what it happening - though I suspect you well know. To create a sequence using numbers you need to go 1 1.1 1.2, 2 2.1, 3.1 etc 1 - 20 no good. In addition to that you have to  remember to select sort by the field you have created as well as sort order and then make sure only it is selected. Adobe seem to have taken something a five year old could understand in 10x and turned it into a series of totally unnecessary and complicated steps and procedures.

  • PDF portfolios in Acrobat X Pro - being viewed on the new XI reader version

    Hi
We currently produce PDF portfolios in Acrobat X Pro - Can these be viewed on the new XI version without problems?
I have heard from other people, that they experience issues - has anyone heard/seen this?
    Thanks

    Hi Chris.Parry,
Portfolios created in Acrobat X Pro can definitely be viewed in version XI.
If you've heard of issues between versions, it is probably regarding people trying to edit/update portfolios created in version 9. Portfolios created in version 9 are different than those in X and XI.
Please see this page regarding A11 compatibility with Acrobat 9 Portfolios:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/overview-pdf-portfolios.html#overview_of_pdf_portfol ios
    and specifically this section:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/overview-pdf-portfolios.html#pdf_portfolios_created_ in_acrobat_9_acrobat_pro
That said, testing is always a good idea. :-)

  • Trouble adding a custom PDF Portfolio layout to Acrobat 9

I asked this question over in the Acrobat Windows and Mac forums, but no luck. I think I was in the wrong place...anyways...apologies for cross-posting, but I'm stuck and up against a deadline!
I've developed a custom navigator for an Acrobat 9 Pro PDF Portfolio. However, I’m having trouble getting it to show up as a layout option when I open Acrobat to create a PDF portfolio. The basic layouts are there, but I can't find my layout or the "other layouts" category.
I've tried this in both Windows and Mac environments on two different computers. In Windows, I tried installing the .nav file in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat9\Navigators directory; on Mac, I tried both /Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_x86/Navigators/ and Applications/Acrobat 9 Pro/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/Navigators/ directories. I've shut down Acrobat and reopened the application, as well as restarted my computer. I still can't get the new navigator to show up.
Is there perhaps a plug-in or something from the SDK that I need to install into Acrobat first in order for my custom .nav to show up? I'm sure it's something simple and obvious that I'm overlooking - but I haven't been able to figure out what. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
    Jill

I thought so. I followed the instructions in a tutorial I saw on Acrobatusers.com. I updated the config.xml, navigator.xml, and the assets (arrows, background), then used WinZip to open an existing .nav file as an archive and swap out the files I changed. Maybe the mimetype file is getting compressed when I close WinZip? Is there another/better way to create the .nav file?

  • Acrobat XI Pro - I see a blank screen in PDF portfolio

I am not sure what I'm supposed to see but after creating a pdf portfolio and choosing 5 files, all I see is a blank screen.  I try to add files again (thinking I did somehting wong) an it says they are already there.  Help if you can.  I'm new to this program but not to computers.   This is what I see after adding files.  Thank you!

    Hi Dave,
I have the same problem except when I click the button to install Flash (I have the latest anyway) Acrobat hangs.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro converting multimedia files in PDF Portfolio

I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and it says that it can convert multimedia files in a PDF portfolio
but when I try to convert wmv files in gives me a conversion error. The user's guide clearly outlines that this program can convert multimedia files - MOV, AVI and WMV files to PDF files within a PDF Portfolio. Am I missing something? Why won't this work?

You have not indicated what version of AA9 or OS you have. The current version is 9.5.5. You can do updates from the Help menu usually. If that fails, download updates from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows and install them in order.

  • PDF Portfolio Cover - how to change this in Acrobat Pro 9?

    Hi all,
in Windows folders PDF Portfolio files are displayed as follows:
    1. Using common PDF icons (bad, because we cannot distinguish PDF from PDF Portfolio), or
    2. If the folder allows larger pictures, then we see the standards Porfolio cover showing a "book",
the note about the needed version and a download button.
Question: is there a way to replace the standard PDF Portfolio cover (and symbol) by an user defined one?
Such information like needed version and the download button aren't useful for people which
already use correct versions. Notes like these should only appear on computer which cannot
    corretly display the respective files.
For a meningfull overview I would like to display own contents. Is this possible?
    Best Regards, Michael

    Ignore the previous posts.
The thing you're looking at is called the Cover Sheet - it's the page that users will see if their software cannot support Portfolios (or on Windows Explorer thumbnails), and is NOT part of the Portfolio navigator. In fact, the Cover Sheet is the "parent" to the entire document, and is nothing more than a one-page PDF file.
To view the Cover Sheet in Acrobat, choose View -> Portfolio -> Cover Sheet
You cannot delete it (as it's the only page in your document!) but you can edit it. For example, you could create your own design, and use the page thumbnails right-click "replace page" tool to swap in your new page. Be careful about the web link though, it needs to stay there to help your non-Adobe recipients.
If you want to change every Cover Sheet on every Portfolio you make, replace the default "coversheet.pdf" file within the Acrobat install (there will be a series of them in subfolders, one for each installed language):
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\DocSettings\CombineFiles
We do it all the time to add company branding to Portfolios created in enterprise installs.

  • Viewing PDF Portfolio using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro in Sharepoint Foundation 2013

When opening a PDF Portfolio, created using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, in Sharepoint Foundation 2013 the pages are blank in the default Layout view but you can see the contents in File view. How do we correct that so the files appear in both views? Local IT stated it is an ADOBE problem.

  • For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat 9 or Adobe Read

    Hi,
For the first time I am aware of a user has received a PDF that cannot be opened in Preview.
The pdf opens to a splash screen showing, "For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat 9 or Adobe Reader 9, or later." There is a large button showing " Get Adobe Reader 9"
It is a 15Mb document but we cannot get beyond the splash screen in Preview so I have had to install Reader 9 for the user.
Turns out the document is a very basic slideshow. It seems this is a new (to me) format of PDF which forces users to install Reader.
Is there any way these image portfolios can be opened within Preview so I don't have to install Adobe Reader bloatware again?
    Thanks,
    b .

Is there any way these image portfolios can be opened within Preview so I don't have to install Adobe Reader bloatware again?
I doubt it, but perhaps others have better info...
You can ask Apple to expand Preview's capabilities here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Personally I have never found Preview to be a complete substitute for Adobe Reader and always have both on my machine to deal with pdfs, which have a large number of possible variations in terms of version, features, and encodings.

  • Acrobat 9 PDF Portfolio - setting size of swf content area

    Hi,
I added a swf file to a PDF Portfolio in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and it works fine when the portfolio is opened in Reader 9, except that the swf content area is small. I want it to occupy the entire page. How/Where do I set this?
    Thanks
    Vijay

I've got this same problem. I add a SWF that's got a width and height of 792x612px. After using the Multimedia->Insert Flash tool the movie is resized to 320x240px and doesn't look right.
Does anyone have any wisdom or insights that can help me understand what I'm missing? I'd love to solve this problem and there doesn't seem to be a lot of info related to this functionality online.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Bring back PDF Portfolio option to Acrobat Standard!

We are refreshing some department computers with newer models through Dell.  These new computers come with Adobe Acrobat X Std on them.  This works fine for most people until today.  Our one department had their older XP computers replaced with new Win 7 machines and Adobe Acrobat X standard.  They were dependant on a feature to right click on a bunch of PDFs and combine them.  They need the portfolio option because a regular combine will overwrite values in forms because "they have the same name".  This worked fine on the OLD machines with Adobe 9.5 Standard.
So on the new computers with Acrobat X Standard, this portfolio option is gone!  This is needed for their job!
Now I am scrambling to deactivate and uninstall X standard from the new computers ,and deactivate and uninstall 9.5 from the old ones.  Using Belarc Advisor to obtain the product key, I can reinstall it on the new computers, along with running all the umpteen patches to get 9.0 back up to the latest version.  Not only that but the right click context menu is gone, so I had to research that and find the command to get it back -> regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat Elements\ContextMenu64.dll"
After doing some research it seems you have to spend extra money on a X or XI "professional" version, just to get a feature that was included in 9 STANDARD.  Shopping around the best price I could find was over at NewEgg for $120.  Multiple that by the people who need it, were looking at good amount of money to get back a single feature we had before!
So were going right back to Acrobat 9 standard because it does what we need it to do.  My plea to adobe is to bring back the portfolio feature!  Either that or don't screw up the contents of forms in a standard combine!
Is this the latest trend that new versions of software are designed to take away features or functionality that people depend on?  I mean even Windows 8 takes away the start menu (I know there's freeware to get it back).  Please don't stoop to Microsoft's level and remove thign's people depend on.

We are also going through some of the issues with Acrobat standard being gutted. In acrobat 9 standard we have some processes that used a function called "Export Multiple Files.." This allowed you function through a wizard to select as many files of many file types as you wanted and export them to a ton of file formats. I use this on a daily basis and now i am being told it is not available in the standard version. If i buy the PRO version it is available, but what will keep Adobe from from removing this from the Next version of PRO and call that PLATNUM or somthing. This not the way to treat long time customer who pay for and have developed many process using the tool. It is also sad to learn that Portfolio option is no longer available. We will have to go back to 9 until they figure this out. What a massive screw up.

  • Add a watermark to multiple files within a PDF Portfolio in Acrobat X Pro?

Can I add a watermark to multiple files within a PDF Portfolio in Acrobat X Pro? If so, how?  It appears as though it is a removed option.

I've figured this out. (kind of) not using PDF Portfolio; where you could apply watermark to multiple files in Acrobat 9.
I'm answering my own question in case there are others looking to add a watermark to multiple files.
Step 1: Open a single file
    Step 2: Tools>Pages>Watermark>Add Watermark
Step 3: In bottom of Watermark Edit Box, Select "Apply to Multiple"
    Step 4: Select "Add Files
    etc etc.

  • Acrobat XI on Win8.1 asks for Flash to create a Pdf Portfolio?

I've been running Acrobat X for a year or so and have created many pdf portfolios, but recently installed a trial version of Acrobat XI on my Windows 8.1 PC.  I then tried to create a portfolio from scratch, selected the files and got a message "To view the Flash technology content in this PDF file, please install this version of Flash Player that supports Adobe Reader and Acrobat."
The Flash Installer link nor the ActiveX link will download for me and when I read further I find out that Win8.1 already includes Flash built in.  I go to the Flash test page and it tells me I have the latest Flash version installed.  I also do the Internet Explorer recommended checks (Shockwave, ActiveX filtering), all to no avail.  I don't know what else to try?  Any thoughts...

When I click on the “Plugin” and select “Save As” I try to save to my Desktop the File name: install_flash_player_exe.  The yellow bar at the bottom immediately says “ install_flash_player_exe couldn’t be downloaded.”  I try the “Retry” button multiple times to no avail.  I then select the “View downloads” button and it shows that it only downloaded 254 bytes of said file from the site “fpdownload.macromedia.com” and the message “This file couldn’t be downloaded.”
