Unorganized photos!

I recently uploaded an entire comic series onto my iPad, only to find all of the pages out of order. I went back into the original file on my desktop and noticed that the upload times for each file were more or less sporadic (I.e. Page 2 uploaded at 7:45 p.m., page 3 uploaded 6:59 p.m.) so on and so forth.
I then double checked the pages on my iPad and realized that they were organized by TIME and not file name.
How do I fix this? Because I'd already wasted half an hour changing the file names before realizing it did diddly squat about the time.
Help!

  • How to organize photos in iPhoto?

    Hi!
All my photos are organized by events in iPhoto, and I would like to move all the photos i took during my exchange year to a seperate album or event. I tried to organize them by making a new album and drag all the albums into it, but it resulted in an album containing 7000 unorganized photos. How do i manage to keep the old sorting of the photos in the new album?
    - Gøril

Open IPHOTO>HELP and enter 'switching photos' in the upper right hand corner.  Find switching between photo libraries'.  If your photos are organized the way you want them in the old library then you may try one of two methods.  Duplicate the old album and delete what you don't want i the new album or transfer those pictures you want album by album. That should retain the same organization.
    Ciao.

  • Photo and iphoto create albums?!??

I downloaded iphoto with the misunderstanding that it would let me organize my photos, something i have been waiting for since i have started using the ipad2.  I went through support and found that you must go through just plain Photo to do so.  Okay fine, except that for some reason I dont have the update that allows my Photo app to create new albums.  Cant find this update anywhere...help!!

Hi Terence.  When I double-click on "All Photos", I have just a bunch of unorganized photos.  I click the back arrow and it just takes me back to showing the albums.  The only albums it shows are "All Photos" "Faces" "Last Import" and "Panoramas".  I have all of my photos in separate individual folders.  Shouldn't Photo show them as individual albums rather than one whole giant album of unorganized photos?  And why does Photo show all of my named photos as "Untitled"?

  • Creating a new library from a DVD Burn library

I have my entire library of photos on my iMac in iPhoto 6.0.6. I recently spent quite a bit of time cleaning up what had been a rather messy, unorganized, photo library. My organizational method consisted of consolidating old film rolls which were inherited from original imports that were in different folders by moving groups of photos into single "film rolls" for older years and making fewer rolls for the last few years. I then went back through and corrected photo dates for a bunch of images that were scanned in, etc. I downloaded Keyword Manager, which I like a lot, and applied keywords to every photo in my collection. I also deleted a bunch of old photos which were too similar to better shots or simply not worth keeping. Once I finished all of this I had my new library consisting of 1892 pictures, which I hoped to backup and allow to serve as a "gold master copy" of all of my photos to date. In browsing the database in Finder, I noted that there were a lot of images in the "Original" folders that were not in the library. Some of these were images I had deleted in the library. (I know better than to do anything through the finder other than browse. I know that to maintain integrity of the library it is necessary to only perform actions through iPhoto.) I did a database rebuild and asked iPhoto to recover orphaned files which did nothing. I really wanted this database to be in pristine condition since I was using it as my master copy, but could not figure out how to do away with old unwanted images in the "originals" folders. I went ahead and created a DVD library with "Share -> Burn", and voila, the new iPhoto Library that was created on the DVD appeared to be "clean" with only the 1892 pictures in my viewable library existing in the Originals folder. OK, so far so good. I then took the DVD I had burned and attempted to replicate my library on my iBook which had a clean install of iLife '06 on it. When I launched iPhoto with the DVD in place it showed me an empty hard drive library and the burned library from the DVD. At first I attempted to just copy individual Film Rolls from the DVD to the local library. While this worked in bring the images over, the keywords became all jumbled. The resulting photos would have keywords attached which did not belong to them and were different from what was on the DVD. I then deleted the iBook library and tried copying the entire iPhoto Library folder from the DVD to the iBook via the Finder. When I relaunched iPhoto, presto all the photos were in my local library with keywords, film rolls and other metadata intact. However in browsing the library I came across a few photos which would cause iPhoto to crash when I tried to edit them. This was a consistent behavior on specific images. Reading through the forums I came across the color profile bug and through testing verified that this was not the problem. Meanwhile back on the iMac I could edit the photos in question with no problem. I verified that the image had not been corrupted during the DVD burn as well. The files are identical between the iMac and the iBook. I know this is a long drawn out post, but if anybody has read this far, here are my questions ...
    1) What is the best way to go about creating a "clean" database with internal integrity after a doing a lot of edits and metadata changes? Shouldn't the burn to DVD do what I want?
    2) How come when I copied subsets of my library over to a new machine from the DVD, the keywords seemed to get all jumbled? Is it a matter of indexing them? If I added all the keywords to an empty library before copying the images over, would it work? Is there not a way to just copy portions of a DVD library into another library?
    3) Any ideas on the crash while attempting to edit problem? The image will load as a thumbnail, and then briefly flas the full size image, before iPhoto crashes and pops up a dialog asking if I want to restart it.
    Thanks for staying with me!

  • External drive sharing mac and pc

How can I format Seagate Hard Drive to allow photos to be viewed and copied from Mac and PC

If you only need the Mac to read from the drive, you can use either FAT32, exFAT, or NTFS.
If you need the Mac to be able to write to it, use FAT32 or exFAT.
If you're going to put an actual iPhoto library on the drive and not unorganized photos, you must use Mac OS Extended. This drive format isn't readable by Windows unless it has software such as MacDrive installed or the drive is being made available as a network share from a Mac or AirPort base station.

  • How to export events in iPhoto onto ext HD into Event folders

I'm new to iMac and iPhoto. I've got a ton of photos loaded via iPhoto that I want to copy onto an external HD that will be accessed by both iMac and Windows PC. I've figured out how to copy iMac files to the external HD. I've tried to export events to the external HD using iPhoto and it creates individual files and does not put them into a folder with the event name. Is there a way to export event photos as a FOLDER using iPhoto onto the external HD? In other words, I want 25 pictures taken on 6/4/10 (event 6/4/2010) into a Folder on my external HD named 6/4/2010 (without having to make the folder on the external HD first). Is this possible with iPhoto?

I have unorganized photos saved to multiple hard drives. I need to organize them by date, event, etc., and get them saved to one location. I'm not interested in faces, and places. I have tried to open them off the different hard drives in the past, but it's a pain going back and forth and trying to see what the picture is at times.
It seems to me the best way is just to throw them all back in iPhoto to organize, but I'm concerned because there are about 7-8000 photos. It's a monster that keeps growing, and I need to get it organized. Maybe aperture or some other program might make it easier? I would love to know if anyone has been in this mess, and how they started.

  • IMac 8.1 dual core intel 21.5" 2007/8 has vertical streaks on display screen, what is the cause

my display has verticle streaks tat seem to be on everything, they are not differently colored than the background, just spaced about every 2.5-3 inches with a light dark light band space of about 2 inches and then again, repeated across the screen. It shows up on everything, but is more visible on some content than others. is it a video card going or what?

Thanks a lot! If i am going to spend a lot to get it fixed, i think I will wait a while and maybe get a new Imac or maybe a mini mac. with a separate monitor.  I do love my imac, and before we got our macs we had many problems with viruses, crashed hard drives & various other problems. With the Imac, even though my husbands and mine are supposed to be the same they have suttle differences. but I have had a problem with the computer I have on warrenty it needed something replaced, Then this last fall we had 3 power outages in a row. They are on surge protectors, but even so, they shut themselves off, or the power did like a cold boot. after the power came back on, I turned it on, and then shortly thereafter the power went off again. Thensame scenario. and one more power failure. i think it was not the surge as I don;t think there would or could have been one, but because it was basically a cold boot 3 times in a row and the computer did not shut down properly, it crashed and would not come on. My husband, worked on it for a week and finally got a blue screen, and was able to get it going enough to format the hard drive. and re install everything. But a lit of files would not reinstall. I had a small 1 terrabyte backup and it was plugged in and programmed to cycle every day at certain times. Well to make a long story short, it did not like the cold boot any more than the computer. we ere able to save about 1/2 of my files. part of which was my photos. I had had 23,000 photos, and now i had 87,000, unorganized photos with many duplicates. it is a slow proceedure, but I have got that # down to 60,000 so far. I am missing my best folder I had with some genealogy info & other stuff in it. Was my personal folder. It would not load into the re done computer. but I still have the hard drive in case things change. I still love mac & don't think I would go back to PC Sorry to talk your ear off, and thanks again for your help.... Myrna Thordarson

  • Photos not synced correctly to iphone... Unorganized and out of order

After syncing my Iphone 4s with my macbook pro, all of my "Event" photos are out of order. If I open a specific event there will be photos that do not belong there and have no relation to that event... Same with the "faces" feature... I will specifically look for all pictures with "Mary's" face and majority of the pictures are other people with "Mary" not even in those pictures...
I have looked at my macbook and all of the photos seem to be correct on that and in the right locations... Not sure how to fix this problem or what to do :-/
This is a feature that I use constantly and would appreciate if someone could help guide me to correcting it....

    Hi Tasha48323,
If you are having issues with unusual or incorrect data after a recent sync with iTunes, you may want to turn off the sync options for Photos, click Apply (this should clear that data off the iPhone), then turn Photo syncing back on and Apply again (which should resync all the data back). You may find the Resolution section of the following article helpful (the article primarily concerns a slightly different issue, but the steps are the same):

  • Help! I put every photo in the trash and now they are unorganized

I put every photo in the trash and was not able to restore them to their original position.Thankfully, I was able to save these photos but they are now a jumble. Every photo spawned 5 or so derivatives- face photos, PM, etc. Plus, I had photos saved outside of iphoto and imported in to iphoto. Now iPhoto is full of empty squares.
What is the best (and fasted way) to get to a restored state?
Unfortunately, I have not backed up my computer for a year and a half. Can I drag photos into Masters and somehow keep the existing framework of iphoto that way it was before my terrible mistake? Should I just re-import using my back up as an intial state?
    Please advise!
I appreciate the help as my sanity is in question,
    Sara

What is the best (and fasted way) to get to a restored state?
Restore your backup from before you made this user error
Unfortunately, I have not backed up my computer for a year and a half.
Very unfortuant and a really bad decision and a hard way to learn the critical nature of always haveing a current backup - Time Machine is included with every Mac - if you run it you always have hourly backups to go back to
Can I drag photos into Masters and somehow keep the existing framework of iphoto that way it was before my terrible mistake?
    No
If your Masters folder is intact you can start over from scratch and get the event structure you had - drag the Masters folder to the desktop, start a new iPhoto library and drag each folder from the Masters folder to the open iPhoto window - this will recreate the events you had
and maybe if you provided some details about what you have and exactly how you recovered your photos theree is more that can be done
.Thankfully, I was able to save these photos but they are now a jumble. Every photo spawned 5 or so derivatives- face photos, PM, etc
Gives no clue about what you did or how you did it
and knowing the version of iPhoto and of the OS is good information for us too

  • Photo App Displays Unorganized Pictures (Camera Roll starts over at 1,000)

I finally bought an iPhone 4.
    =)
BUT, i backed up my 3GS and restored from back up to my iPhone 4.
When i first opened my pics app it said rebuilding so i let it rebuild.
Now my Camera Roll starts over at 1,000.
SO now every pic i had past 1,000 from my 3gs is displayed at the top instead in the order they were taken.

Just so you know, the camera roll is a temp place for photos. While yes part of a backup, they are not put in a place for you to really access or store them.
You really should be taking pictures off the camera roll often and keeping it as clear as possible. It is a separate partition in a way from the rest of the OS and shows up as a digital camera to your computer and why you can access them directly outside of iTunes.
Photos should be taken off by you then if you want them on the phone you can sync them back to their own albums. One, this ensures you have real copies on your computer (that you have your own backup and storage practice) as well as makes it so it doesn't have to waste time trying to back them up each time since you have them on your computer.
There is also a limit to how much the Camera Roll can hold as I mentioned it is a separate partition sort of and not meant for long term storage.

  • I might have messed up my files and now have the big exclamation mark on a lot (but not all of my iphotos) My document folder was full of photos and I tried to organize it by putting it into a separate folder but now I can't see my photos :-( please help?

Hi there, I have the same problem as I've read on some of the questions posted although the answers hasn't been much help to me with regards to the big exclamation mark on iphotos when I try to open my photos.  For some reason my photo files was stored in my document folder and you can imagine how that must have looked, very unorganized.  When I tried to move the photos from there to another file that is just for my photos.  Now I can't open them in iphotos and although I tried to undo my mistake it still doesn't want to work.. is there any way I can find all the images on my computer and fix my problem by storing them somewhere else without damaging the files?
Please help me find all my photos as I would be shattered if I were to loose any...
    Thank you.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards

  • Accidentally moved all photos out of separate folders into single folder!

So somehow I managed to move all of my photo files from my work out of their respective, nicely organized folders into one single folder. I really can't figure out how. All 15,588 of them... now unorganized into a single folder. "Undo" didn't work and I tried restoring from a catalog backup with no success. Also... my Time Machine backup refuses to restore because the disk is messed up, so that's useless. Lightroom still has all of the folders recognized in the catalog but the photos are missing, (?) and I do not want to just "re-link" them and point Lightroom to the photos in the new folder.
So I guess my question is, can I go to each folder in lightroom and physically move all the photos that were previously in that folder BACK into that folder on the system automagically? It seems that lightroom recognizes what folders used to exist there... just can't find them. Well, I know they are all in that one folder and would like Lightroom to move them all back to their appropriate folders. That way when I search for a folder on my computer (not in lightroom), the folder contains the photos that used to be there. I hope this makes sense. I am using Lightroom 4.1 on a Mac running OSX version 10.8.3. Thank you for any and all help.

Sorry IIIMPower, I just saw this post after responding to the other post.

Rob, this sounds like it would work. I downloaded it and installed it and am having trouble editing the advanced settings... I have no idea what to put in the "FROM-PATH" area. Would this be "/Volumes/2TB HD/AUTO RESTORATION?" When I tried that, the plugin did nothing. Any tips on how to get this working?
If your best whack at a correct path failed, then I'll have to add a UI with browse button for ya.
But before I do that, please send me the (preferrably verbose) log file.
    Instructions:
    * Check the 'Verbose Logging' box in top section of plugin manager.
    * Then click the 'Clear logs' button (same section), or reload plugin or restart Lightroom.
    * Click the 'Relocate' button (bottom section of plugin manager).
(use test mode, not real mode)
That will produce a fresh set of verbose logs. To send them to me, click the 'Problem Report' button in the top section of plugin manager.
    UPDATE:
The fromPath should be the flat folder, i.e. where the files will need to be moved from. The location where files will be moved to is: "where they belong", which is known - it's in the catalog.
So if "...Auto Restoration" folder is not the path to the flat folder (it's not, right?) it should not be in the fromPath.
if "...68 Oldsmobile 442" is the flat folder, then it should be in the fromPath (with '...' replaced by the correct path prefix).
*** Important: Relocation Services only relocates selected photos. Thus, you need to select which photos you want to restore before clicking the 'Relocate' button. The results of the relocation should be evident in Lightroom, but complete details are available in the log file. PS - the log file is not only useful for recording details of successful operation, but also may provide a clue if operation is not successful.

  • I would like to copy my iphoto events library to my external hard drive as events not just thousands of individual photos. :)

Basically when I try to highlight events in iphoto and drag them to my external drive it takes them out of their events and puts them into the external hard drive as individual photos. This is way too unorganized for my liking and it would take me days to get them all sorted again. Isn't there a way to have them just go right to the external drive in their defined events?
    thanks

If using iPhoto 11 then you can do this with the File -> Export command:
    File -> Export
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
If using an earlier version then create a folder and export to it.
THat said, dragging and sropping only gets the Preview of your photos and that is not the best quality possible. The Export route has more options.

  • Photo Event Organization Problem

I had about 20,000 plus photos in I-Photo all organized by event and date.  I decided to download another 1700 photos from a remote hard drive from my career and after they were imported, all the organization of the events was lost.  I cannot seem to figure out how to get them back into the same organized manner without manually going through every photo.  I did that to create the events originally and I cannot tell you how long that took.  I had them backed up to an external drive and when viewed on that drive, they are correct but I cannot get them back onto my Macbook in that order.  What gives?

What gives? You did something wrong someplace  --  how did you "download" another 1700 photos from a remote hard drive?
What do you mean that the "organization of the events was lost?
Note that events are not really for organizaing photos - they are really just buckets of photos - albums and folders and smart albums are the organizaing tools
while it may not be necessary one way to "get yoru old organization" back is move the "unorganized" library to the desktop and drag the library from the EHD to the pictures folder and import the 1700 photos correctly

  • Copy photos with info  and data to a cd

I have Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 and put in all the photos I had in my files. Then marked every single photo with information and data (a hell of work) and decided to make a backup copy on cd.
To my astonishment on the cd all the photos turned out to be completely unorganized and all the text I put below them were nowhere to be found!!!
Did I do something wrong, or is it not possible to get an organized cd with information using this edition of Photoshop?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    >I am trying tommove a block of pictures from my d drive over to photo shop
    >3.0 and want to move more than one photo at a time.
I'm not sure what you mean by moving pictures from D: drive to PS 3... PSA
SE 3.2 is just a cataloging application. It doesn't actually store anything,
it just tells you where things are, or helps you to work with them.
    >Or I can load them into photo shop from a CD.
It sounds like you just want to make sure the PSA SE knows that they are
    there....
Essentially, you can just Click on the "Get Photos" button and choose the
source. Keep in mind that this will NOT physically move images and doesn't
have that ability like Photoshop Elements 5.0.
As to the DVD... it can track it depending on the video type. When you say
"Get Photos"... look to see if has detected it. If you see that it has and
offers to catalogue it for you, then you know that you're okay.
    Cheers
