Unplayed playlist issues

Twice, since the upgrade to iTunes 11, I've gone to my smart playlist of unplayed songs to find a bunch of my old songs on it:
The playlist matches all of the following:
     Plays is 0
     Kind is not PDF Document
     Kind does not contain book
Live updating
So why do songs change to Plays is 0, when they have been played before?
Also, when I play that playlist, sometimes it will play randomly (it used to be top to bottom), and sometimes it won't play at all, when I use my remote - I have to select a song by hand to get it going.  I play that song and then it stops.  Then I have to click another song to get it to play.   Actually, these are podcasts, the songs that played randomly were songs that were mistakenly set to plays=0.   The podcasts which used to play nicely top to bottom often won't do so now.
Is this a known bug with iTunes 11?

Just now three ovies and two songs showed up as unplayed.
An other thing - before this all happened, when I opened that playlist and pressed my remote, it would play all of the elements in order.   Now the only way to play something in that playlist is to select one (with my mouse), wait for it to end, then select the next and the next and the next by hand.

  • Two iPad/Match Playlist Issues

I am having a number of problems with Match, iTunes and my iPad.
For starters, I have iTunes and Match running on 3 computers (a Macbook Pro, a Macbook and a Mac Mini).  I also use Match with my music on an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2.
    My iPhone music is fine.
On my iPad, however, there are a couple of issues.
    1) Smart playlists, such as 100 Most Listened to Songs, and 50 Most Recent Purchases have thousands of songs in them, not the 100 or 50 that they should.  Those playlists are correct on all other computers and my iPhone
    2) Regular playlists have only a fraction of the songs that they should, and they appear to be changing the playlists on the other machines.  For example, a playlist that was created with 15 songs in it, and had 15 songs on all machines, only had 4 songs on the iPad (and this IS with All songs shown, taking into account they may or may not have been downloaded to the device).  And then, after I saw there were only 4 songs in the iPad playlist, I looked again at the other devices and those playlists were changed to only have 4 songs too.  The changes happened AFTER I looked at the playlists on the iPad.
All of my devices are running the latest versions on iTunes, OS 10 and iOS.
I know these are similar to some of the other Match/Playlist issues, but there are a few differences too.
    Any ideas?

For #1 - on your computer, right-click (or control-click) one of the songs that this is affecting, then choose "Get Info". Look on the "Info" tab. Is the "Part of a compilation" item checked? If it is, that will change how the song is categorized so it won't appear under the artist name. I've found that sometimes this is checked even on things like "Best of..." albums where the artist is always the same.
For #2, do the same thing, but this time look for any weird characters in the info - like maybe somehow a letter got entered into the "year" field, or you might see empty squares in the name field. Fix anything that looks odd, then sync again or update iTunes match, and see if you can open that artist on the ipad again.

  • 1.2.1 Firmware - Smart Playlist Issue?

    Hi everyone,
Those of you who owned the iPod Photo (iPod with Colour Display) a while back will remember the effort we went through when Apple introduced Podcasting via Firmware 1.2, but inadvertently screwed up the Smart Playlist feature (I.E. when updating to firmware 1.2 from 1.1 or before, smart playlists didn't automatically update any more).
Does anyone know if the 'new' 1.2.1 firmware addresses this issue or whether it just fixes general bugs?
If you can get back to me that'd be great.
    Cheers,
    Edd

The issue was sorted but like already stated you have to come out of the playlist to actually see the songs updated, so say you have a playlist of unplayed songs "0 play count" and your playlist only allows "0 play count" any songs which have been played in it will still be in it until you come right out of it. when you go back into the playlist its gone......
The one good thing about the new update is that the ipod will disconnect after it has updated so you don't have the Do not disconnect symbol on the ipod, so its more plug and play now

  • Having playlist issues getting all my songs synced

Issue is I made a large playlist 600 + songs, I named the playlist and I can view it and play the songs from i Tunes library but, I cant sync that list to my nano. I clicked on the nano icon on the left on the i tunes menu and it pulled up default lists with every song on my computer and started to sync which I dont want as I have alot of duplicates. I did something that erased my big playlist and I realize I need to redo my list as it cleared the ipod.
My main question is once I go and rename and redo my playlist the way I want it how do I get it to sync up? Before I clicked sync from the menus and it said syncing on the comp and ipod but I was around 100 songs short. Once I get it the way I want it how do I make sure I get the list on my ipod the way I want it?
Just got this today and figure im missing something easy

If the solution is not found in iPod Nano 5th Gen. User Manual or Apple's Knowledge Base - http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=search, it's time to call U.S. iPod and Mac technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273)

  • Playlist issue

All I want to do is remove items from a playlist and leave everything else the same. Highlight and delete from the keyboard doesn't work.
Highlight right click offers NO delete option and the delete button on the file/edit menu is grayed out.
It doesn't seem like rocket science to be able to complete this simple task.
I've spent two hours trawling round Itunes ''help'' and the internet but mostly people want to delete the entire playlist which is not what I want.
I think it's an Itunes problem but cannot obtain any support from them. Obviously I'm not going to be paying for support foer this type of issue!!

Yes that's correct. I didn't realise until after I posted that there was such a thing!!
Oddly enough I can delete items from my own (not so smart!) playlists without any trouble. So who's so smart?
I looked at editing a smart playlist but couldn't see anything remotely resembling what I needed.
However I just looked again and unchecked ITunes from doing it's thing so now I seem to have the delete option back.
I give it a try and see if I can now edit.

  • IOS 5.0 / 5.0.1 Playlist issue on 3GS/iP4 and i4S

I have a few iOS devices as noted above this issue is experienced on all of them
Post upgrade to iOS 5 the new "Split" ipod.app (music and videos) has performance issues with large playlists.
Performance issue arent the biggest issue, however large playlists can render the Music app unusable
If a playlist is large enough it will be extemely slow loading it the first time its used, after that. Closing the music app with a large playlist loaded renders the Music.app unusable without reconnection to a computer and iTunes.
When a large platlist is loaded and the Music app is loaded for the first time (either closed via the Multitasking bar or fresh after a reboot) the app attempts to load the playlist, after a short period, iOS 5 belives the app has crashed (as its busy loading) times the app out and force closes it.. further attempts at loading the app have the same result.
Making your playlist smaller fixes the issue, However it is not present on 4.3.3.
This appears to be a bug/performance issue on iOS 5, I attempted to submit a support request but all I get is the "Express Lane" support options.
Im Posting this here to help anyone else that might be expereincing the same issue.
To restore functionality of your music app without a restore (I read somewhere that someone was doing that with their 3Gs)
    On your PC/Mac
    Open iTunes
Select any large playlists (1000+) that are synced with your idevice (typically smart playlists) and limit or split them into smaller lists.
If this is not possible, uncheck these playlists in the Music tab of your iDevice in the sync properties.
    Sync the device.
The music app should now load and allow you to play at least something untill iOS 5.0.2 comes out (assuming Apple are aware of the bug)
##Note attempts to force another playlist via another app or via Siri will fail, the device will simply not play music, IE in the case of Siri, Siri will answer "Okay playing your playlist Purchased" and then nothing will happen
Im testing on my Ipad2 and another 3GS i have on 4.3.3 to tripple check this doesnt happen on 4.3.3, but i havent changed my playlists since the upgrade.. soo yeah

  • ITunes 10 playlist issues

Why can't you drag and drop between playlists anymore?
I just upgraded to the latest iTunes and now I can't select and drag songs from one playlist to another, nor can I drag to reorder songs within a playlist. Can someone help? Am I missing something here?

Actually, I found the existing threads about how it's an issue with Wacom tablets. I tried to downgrade to iTunes 9 unsucessfully. Now I'm just using a different mouse, which isn't the most convenient thing, but not the end of the world.

  • Syncing issues/playlist issues

i think it was when i synced my iphone but when i looked at my music i had  no recently added playlist or recently played playlist etc.
however they are all in my itunes... is there any way to get them back on my iphone.. i have iphone 4.. with the newest update

    Hi colgate009,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The articles below may be able to help you with this issue.
I would suggest following the instructions to setup manual syncing, remove the playlist that you are having an issues with, and resync it.
This information is on page 61 of the iPhone User Guide
    manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
    Playlists
Clear or delete a playlist: Select the playlist, then tap Clear or Delete.
Delete a song from iPhone: In Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete.
The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

  • Custom Playlist Issue

Ok...I have a small issue. I have 2 computers with iTunes. On one computer I can drag the songs in a playlist around to customize the order. On the other I can not. I can only change the order by sorting by title, artist, album, etc... Any ideas how I can fix this? I like to be able to choose the order songs play a little more than just by sorting methods. Thanks.

If you are sorting on any column besides the very first one, it will always display sorted on that column and if you click Shuffle, it will display in that same order (because it is sorted on a column) but will bounce around the playlist.
If you select the first column and click Shuffle, it will shuffle the displayed order of the songs.
Note that if you have Shuffle selected, you cannot reorder the songs yourself by clicking on the first column.

  • Audio files playlist issue

    Hello
I am composer and I have a web page at www.orlov-music.com that I build using iWeb.
I was trying to post some of my works and I got some issues that I was not able to solve.
    1. iWeb allows to post audio file, but it always requires to attach some kind of image to audio file
    2. iWeb doesn't allow to create a playlist... so every file I have to post separately. If I make a playlist, then it only creates links to iTunes store.
    3. When you go to page with my music it takes some time to load it... because it starts to load all these mega bytes into QuickTime players
    3. I know the best solution is some kind of flash player, then I can upload to my hosting a folder with audio files and create streaming. Alas iWeb doesn't provide such a solution and I am not strong in HTML programming.
Is there anybody who knows what is the best solution for me if I still want to use iWeb?
    Thank You my friends

    Serge15:
1 - Even though there's a place to put a picture you don't have to have one and only the control bar will be visible. See this example.
2&3 - if you'd rather have the visitor download the file you can put a text link to a zipped (archived) copy of it so when the link is clicked on it would download immediately.
Or, create a separate page for each song and have the playlist that you create be on the top page with links to each song. Then only one song would have to load at a time.
There are other users here, like QuicktimeKirk, Tom Gewecke, Roddy, that will have more experience with Quicktime and will probably have more elegant solutions. I'm sure they'll pop in shortly.

  • Updated itunes, ipod and now i have playlist issues.

just upgraded to OS X (5.8). then upgraded ipod to os 4.2. then updated itunes to 10. now i am having interesting issues when i plug the ipod into the computer. of course, everything on the ipod music was wiped out. so i had to sync back all the music. but now i cannot make any playlists when i plug in the ipod. i can only make playlists in itunes on the computer. this is not right. i made several playlists on my ipod before. when i hit the file drop down menu, none of the playlist options are highlighted when i have the ipod selected. what has happened or what do i need to do???

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Apple TV ( 2&3) - iTunes Match playlist issue

After the latest firmware update none of my ATVs (3 of, 2 ATV2 and 1 ATV3) allow my ITunes Match playlists to be selected using either the ATV remote or iPhone Remote App. When playlists are selected the ATV appears to reset (white LED flashes and connection to iPhone dropped). It is however possible to access playlists successfully using the iPad Remote App??? This ***** as I have my music library stored in the cloud and regularly played music via the ATVs, my son had some of his own playlists which he now gets upset he can't access. Come on Apple sort this out , your loyal customers are getting frustrated by your one step forward & another step back software upgrade program.

Thanks for the advice on how to contact apple.....they don't make it easy!!!!!
However you are incorrect, other people have had this problem, search in iTunes- iTunes Match- discussions for "ITunes crashes when loading playlists on Apple TV".
Interestingly my ATV had an update tonight ( looks like a roll back to me) as the crashing problem has cleared but the previous issue I was having ( and had not reported yet) has reoccurred. The problem is that I have many playlists in ITunes and subsequently in Match however my ATV only shows the first 24 - again frustrating and similarly you can access all the playlists if you connect with iPad remote App but not with the iPhone remote app??

  • Large Playlist Issues (Constant Restarting)

I have a brand new 160GB iPod Classic. I currently have nearly 4500 songs, and I like to listen to my songs on shuffle. Naturally, there are certain things you don't want coming up when you're just listening for fun (stuff like holiday music or songs you aren't particularly fond of). So, I created a massive playlist of over 3000 songs that has pretty much everything I would listen to continually on shuffle with minimum skips. But, every time I put the iPod on shuffle and select this playlist, the iPod will play for awhile but then go into fits of restarting over and over. Sometimes it will play maybe 5 songs, and other times it won't even make it through one song before it begins restarting. I've played the entire library on shuffle and other smaller playlists and it doesn't appear to have that problem. Could the size of the playlist be causing this issue?

I doubt if it's the size of the Playlist. If I go into the Songs menu (which is a "Playlist", after all) and use  Shuffle Play, the iPod handles it perfectly and I have well in excess of 4,500 songs on it!
My first thought is that it's the songs themsleves. Is there any common factor between the songs that are playing when the iPod re-starts? Are they from the same album, purchased as MP3s from the same store, imported into iTunes around the same time, or even that they're in an unconventional format?
Actually, that brings me to a second thought. Are the songs in WAV format, or any of the other high bit rate formats, and are you moving the iPod around when this happens (running, jogging etc. etc.)?
As well as addressing the points I've mentioned above, you could try considering a couple of alternative strategies:
         1. Each and any song can be set to Skip when shuffling, which would therefore exclude them when you played from the Songs menu and in Shuffle mode. No need for any playlist.
         2. I have created (in my iTunes) a (master) Smart Playlist that looks at several other (sub) Playlists, both Smart and Regular. Each of the sub-Playlists does something different;
    one has low-rated songs in it, but only if they haven't been played for a long time;
    another has higher-rated songs, that haven't been played for a shorter time;
yet another has songs I've never played - ever. Once they have been played, they are dropped from the list.
The result is that the master-Playlist, which looks at the sub-Playlists has a mix of my favourites, not so favourite and each of those played less frequently, and some other songs, only played once. The master-Playlist updates automatically.
(I even have a further sub-Playlist that includes songs played once only, and only if that was long ago. Therefore, even the "play-once-and-drop" songs eventually come back into the master-Playlist!)
If you would like to try either of the suggestions I've outlined, I can advise you on setting it up. Just ask.

  • ITunes Match, iPad, and smart playlist issues.

I have one particular smart playlist, that iTunes Match correctly syncs to my Macs and my iPhone, but no matter what I try, it shows as "no songs" on my iPad. Both iDevices are running iOS 7.0.3.

    Hi zentralorgan,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that you are trying to AirPlay from an iPad to multiple AirPlay outputs.  This feature requires iTunes on a computer, and cannot be done on an iOS device.  Since you have iTunes Match, your music should still be the same on your computer as your iPad.
    Listen through multiple speakers
With AirPlay and iTunes 10 or later, you can listen to music through your computer speakers and multiple AirPlay outputs.
The maximum number of outputs is three to six. The number that works for you depends on your environment (such as building composition and local radio interference), distance to the outputs, and available network capacity relative to your other usage.
