Unplugged battery from logic board now it won't recognise there's a battery plugged in

So over the last week I've been having issues with my power cable, often it wouldn't work, sometimes it would but it wouldn't hold for long. After a week or so it started flashing green but sort of more dull green. No orange. After some extensive research I found a temporary fix was to unplug the battery from the board plug it back in and voila. Supposedly. So when that didn't work, and after spotting the tiny teeth marks right beneath the MagSafe bit from a very naughty kitten, I bit the bullet and paid the £60 (expensive when you're a jobless student, hey, times are tough) for a replacement charger, and the new cable worked a charm. BUT, now my MacBook says it's got no battery available and I'm thinking maybe I've been a bit of an idiot unplugging it. I'm on an early 2011 MBP running a version of snow leopard. I've done all the smc resets etc and the stuff for kernals? (I'm not mac proficient yet) and now I'm thinking maybe I need a new battery but I can't afford one or the diagnostic + replacement charges at the Genius Bar. So I pose this dilemma to you, the community, in the hopes that someone can help me. I can provide any extra info necessary so don't hesitate to ask. Many thanks for responses.
A confused, lost and terrified man.

Try the SMC again.  Make certain that you use the correct instructions.

If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  The diagnosis will be FREE.  Any repairs will not be free but you will know exactly what you are dealing with.
Since you MBP does not even recognize the battery suggests that there is a connection break.  I'm wondering if damage was done when you disconnected and then reconnected the battery (to the battery connection).
Ciao.

If you can't enter the passcode then you have to place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore the iPod via iTunes. For ecovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Note that this requires using the sleep/wake button.  If you are not successful then there is nothing else that I know you can do.

What can I do? I dropped my iphone (not from a great height) and now it won't turn on however when I plug it in the white apple shows on my screen. My lock button has been broken for awhile so I can't even try switch it on!

Once you have a proven, working Charger... Charge the Device for a couple of hours. Then try to turn it on.
    If no joy...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    If the issue persists...
Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first...

after lion 10.7.3 update messed my mac had to restore from time machine now Outlook won't connect with microsoft exchange, any idea?

I've had a similar problem.  On my first boot up after installing 10.7.4,  Firefox would not open.  Crashed every time.  Safari was not affected.  I have no idea if it was related to the flash plugin, but I did install a the latest version of that a couple of weeks ago.
Here's what fixed it: a second boot up.

  • MMD - replaced logic board & now have led flashing 5 times

    I have a mmd model M878 LLA and replaced a logic board KD237 045 VNFAA , 630t3744/630-4267 with a KD244 024 NNNVA, 630t3744/630=4372.
Original symptoms were 4 beeps and 4 flashes then a high speed fan, so I replaced the logic board - Now I get only 5 flashes on the power button and a high speed fan.
What do I do next? Do I go ahead and order a replacement processor? Do I want to put more money into this machine or just part it out?

Almost certainly. Check out the customer service article.

  • HT1369 Since we updated our Itunes to 10.7 we've had nothing but problems, first we lost all our music (luckily I was able to recover it) but now it won't find my phone when I plug it in. Has anyone else had this issue?

Has anyone out there been having any problems with Itunes since updating Itunes.  First it lost all our music (which I recovered), now it won't find my phone when I plug it in.

I hate to say it, but Apple is literally infamous for teething problems on new releases. It's usually fixed in two days, though that fix usually gets fixed, too, so sometimes a week, but does means downloading new updates.
My (experienced) advice? Wait a couple of days, check for updates, try again. Pray (or whatever works for you) that you don't have the "lost Apple Device Driver" problem several people are having.
I keep an older version of iTunes installer on a backup drive (or just in my downloads folder), just for such events. Worst-case, I've always been able to uninstall iTunes (including driver and user info), then install my old version of iTunes and roll on. Yes, my iTunes folder is on an external hard drive, so I can move it around to my different computers, and then keep a backup of that hard drive on a second external hard drive. Saves me a ton of headaches.

  • My iMac got a new logic board, now my HP printer doesn't work

I have had my Intel iMac 24" using OS 10.7.5 in the shop a lot lately. One of the things they replaced was the logic board. Now my iMac seems to be working great, but my HP printer stopped working. It's and older printer, Officejet All-in-One. I tried removing the driver and software to reinstall but it says the disc will not work because the iMac is no longer a PowerPC. That's how old the printer is. Is this a techology thing, is the printer just to old, or is there something I can do to fix this. Should it at least recognize that a printer is connected. The printer is not recognized at all, that is, it says no printer is connected and even when I try to add a new printer, it does not show up in the list. So there is no way of trying to add it back, to the iMac, there is no printer connected as far as it's concerned.

  • Unplugged LaCie w/o ejecting, now it won't remount

Let me say right off that I know it's not good to unplug a FW drive w/o enjecting, however the Finder crashed on my computer and wasnt' able to eject it, rather I had to hold down the power button in order for it to turn off.
So, now it won't mount... any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Hello Again! That's odd as I've never seen a firewire ext drive without one but anyway does it have it's own power supply? If so unplug the a/c to it when trying the procedure. If it doesn't have it's own power supply it must be bus powered so removing anything else on the bus might help.Tom

  • Macbook Pro Video problems stemming from logic board

Recently my MacBook Pro 15" 2.4 GHZ started acting odd. Doing normal (i.e. nothing too CPU/Video card taxing) the monitor would work fine But it almost always happens immediately when playing a game, WoW for example. Then the display would show random odd characters and colors, almost as if the laptop went into a fit of rage. This almost never happens when surfing the web, using a text editor, etc.
I called Apple tech support and scheduled an appointment with a local reseller. The attendant there hooked up a device that quickly said something about a "4v video display adapter" not functioning correctly. She informed me that this meant the logic board was bad. I was quoted something about $310, but since I don't have that much to spend atm I didn't ask her for details.
My only real question at this point is how much does something like this cost to repair/replace? If it is the $310 (before shipping and handling of course) then I'm almost happy. If it turns out to be too much more then I will have to consider relegating my favorite laptop to minor duties and consider buying something else.
Thanks for any info/help with this.

Yesterday my laptop became emotionally distressed...my screen went berserk, diagonal lines everywhere. I rushed to the apple store and met with a genius, unfortunately he was unable to help me...I almost dished out $310 to send it in for service.
After multiple hardware and software diagnostics (Techtool Pro, ASD, Disk utility, Disk warrior, and Drive Genius) I could not find the problem. Then I came to the conclusion that maybe there are new default settings from new Snow Leopard update (10.6.3). MBP’s default fan speed...The GPU was overheating and creating a distorted video signal. How did figure it out you might ask, well I put the laptop in the freezer for 3 min and guess what, the screen went back to normal (Somewhat impatient). Then, I found little app that let's you adjust the fan speed RPM.
*smcFanControl 2.2.2* Control Intel Mac fans to make it run cooler.

Also, I will recommend a widget called iStat Pro and it also has a matching iPhone app to monitor your laptop temperature and other important info from afar.

I am somewhat concerned though, did overheating the GPU cause lasting damage to my logic board?Time will tell. Also, is this a issue that Apple should look into....Yes.

  • Got new logic board, now  software is making me go through authorization?

i just got a new logic board installed on my 2007 MacBook Pro. now any time i open any of my software it makes me go through the authorization process (asking for serial #) - its as though with the new logic board the software actually thinks that its been installed on a whole different computer. just wondering if this is normal or if there is any way to get around it. I do audio production on my mac so I have literally hundreds of different plugins installed many of which have complex product authorization schemes. Thanks in advance for the help.

+*its as though with the new logic board the software actually thinks that its been installed on a whole different computer*+
That's exactly what's happening. Most modern authorization/activation routines look at the hardware giving specific values to various components. When something like the logic board is replaced, the application pretty much sees that as a different machine.
I believe Apple does have the ability to set the serial number in a new logic board... although it has to be done by Apple. This alone may not bypass the need to reactive some of your applications. It depends on the specific activation scheme the application is using. You're probably best off just re-activating your applications. I've never had problems getting software re-activated when dealing with the software vendors due to this situation. Fortunately, OS X itself doesn't require activation. As something of a techy... I've replaced motherboards on desktop systems regularly and even Microsoft has never given me a problem with reactivating Windows.
It might be a pain... but hopefully you'll just have to go through it once.

  • Wires running from logic board to frame of screen

Just a simple question. What do the black and gray wires running up the frame of the screen from the logic board do? Is there any relevance to its placement there, or can I re-solder them onto something else, And if i can, can i strip these wires to re-solder them?

No. But you might visit ifixit.com where you may find more information especially disassembly information.
