Unplugged ipod too soon, now can't do anything

Help, we are completely new to the world of ipods. My son just purchased the 30 mb ipod. Had installed itunes and everything was going fine, but then unplugged it before it said it was OK to disconnect. Now he can't do anything. Tried to restore and got the can't mount ipod error. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My husband is afraid he has fried the entire unit. Sure do hope not. I've been trying to find a phone number in this website to call for help, but can't find anyone to call. We're desperate!!!

Apple's contact list is crap (sorry).
Actually, just hit contact us at the bottom of every page and then the click a link for this list of phone numbers...
Apple Phone Numbers
It wasn't your son's fault; My iPod is doing pretty
much the same thing,
Actually, disconnecting the iPod when it says not to can create hardware or software problems.
It's a
big problem now for Windows users.
Actually, most iPod owners are using windows and it works fine for them.
Don't forget, just because you are having problems with your iPod does not mean the whole world is. This issue was caused by disconnecting the iPod early and has nothing to do with being a windows user or a mac user.

i removed my ipod too soon and lost all my songs except one how do i refresh it to make it work again I cant find it in manual

If the shuffle's storage has data corruption, you should do a Restore.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  You can then set it up to sync or load it manually from your iTunes library, as desired.
If you are asking about how to load content on an empty shuffle, please post back.

    Hi!
This might be a stupid question, but I just bought an IPod G5 60 GB. When you firstconnect your IPod you have to setup your ID. I'm using my brothers computer, who has an IPod too, so now I'm wondering when I set up my ID with his Itunes does his Ipod still work with it??? Or would his ITunes just see my IPod? Or does his Ipod ID change to my ID?
Or does it work without any problems, to setup two IDs on the same computer??
    Thanks!

Did you go into iTunes to change the location of your media files? if not you will need to go into iTunes and click on preference and select the advance tab then click the iTunes Media folder location.  Select the location of your on external hard drive.

As john noted, eventually that external is probably not going to be big enough, but it certainly is for now. The HD just needs enough capacity to cover the amount of data on your internal HD, not the internal HD's total capacity.
Format/partition the external as follows and you should be set to go:
    1. Connect the external HD to the MBP.
    2. Open Disk Utility on the MBP.
    3. Select the external HD in the left pane.
    4. Click on the Erase tab.
    5. Choose the Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
NOTE: if you want to zero the HD (which I always think is a good idea, but does take time), click on Security Options, click the button for Zero Out Data, click OK. The larger the HD, the longer this will take, in some cases several hours.
    6. Click on Erase and wait for the entire process to finish.
    7. Click the Partition tab.
    8. Click on Volume Scheme: and choose the number of partitions (just one in this situation).
    9. Click on the Options button (located underneath the Volume Scheme pane) and select GUID.
    10. Click Apply.
    11. Quit Disk Utility.
Backup your internal to the external. What application are you using to backup with? I highly recommend both SuperDuper! and CarbonCopyCloner.

I recently bought a new laptop because my old one crashed.  The only backup I had for my music was on my ipod.  My new computer will not recognize the ipods music and I can't transfer anything.  It keeps asking me to sync the ipod to this computer, but I'm scared to lose all my music.  I want to transfer some of the music onto my iphone but I can't.  I'm very frustrated and wish I knew more about computers at the moment!?!?  What do I do???

You will need the help of some sort of 3rd party software to help you copy the content from your Shuffle back to your PC.  Once you have done that, you can reimport this music into iTunes and configure it to sync to your new Shuffle.

  • Changed credit card in the payment information now can't purchase anything.  The new credit card i use all the time for online purchases but can't buy anything on iTunes.

I Changed my payment information to a different credit card, now it won't work.  The new credit card has been used for online purchasing all the time but I can't buy anything on iTunes or in game app purchases.

What do you mean by 'won't work' and 'can't buy anything' ? If you are getting an error message when trying to buy things then what does it say ?

  • Changed e-mail associated and now can't play anything

I recently changed my e-mail from a very old hotmail account to a gmail account. I did this through my iTunes account management. After changing my e-mail I can not play anything that was purchased before. This has affected many season passes and music that I have downloaded and need to know if there is a way to fix this. I tried to de-authorize and then re-authorize my computer, but that didn't work. Changing the e-mail back to my old one also did not work. Anyone have any ideas, or did I just lose out on a lot of money? I would assume that it is my apple ID, not my e-mail that the purchases would go by. When I look in my account history it still shows all of my purchases. Thanks!

I took the drastic step of reformatting the drive. You need a day to do it for back up of all your files, planning how to reload the software, and of course an operating system disk. Luckily I had that as the recovery disks didn't work. You also need to know where to get the drives when the recovery disks don't work and the sony download taxi did the trick.

  • I'm wary about synching my iPod with iTunes now-can't synch manually?

Recently, I upgraded iTunes and Quicktime pro - and now I wish I hadn't. Quicktime seems fine, but, when I was trying to make room on my hard drive by removing a few tunes for which I already owned CDs (bought and paid for), I got a message that read, roughly:
"Are you sure you want to delete this track from your library? If you remove it, it will also be removed from your iPod the next time you synch."
What??! Why should this be, and how can I prevent it from happening? I wrote directly to Apple explaining my dismay. As I expained to them, my main reason for buying an iPod was to play my CDs in my car, which has only a tape deck. And I don't necessarily want to put every CD I own on my hard drive and then keep them there! I just want to get them onto the iPod! That's a perfectly legitimate use, and I don't understand why I'm being stymied.
I also don't seem able to go to iPod preferences within iTunes and ask that the iPod be treated as a hard drive. That's also important, because I have a couple of utilities stored on the iPod. Previously, I could run the utilities from the iPod to verify disc permission, etc., and I'd like to be able to keep doing so. It's a 4th generation 40 gig firewire iPod, and I'm running Tiger.
Hope this is clear - it just seems a shame that an upgrade in software would result in reduced functionality. That didn't used to be the case with Apple.

    Selct the iPod in iTunes.
    Tick Manually manage music.
You can delete form iTunes and it will remain on iPod.
Note that if your iPod needs to be Restored and you do not have a backup of your music, it is gone.
my main reason for buying an iPod was to play my CDs in my car
Then you really messed up because iPods don't play CDs. They will play albums/music imported from CDs.
I also don't seem able to go to iPod preferences within iTunes and ask that the iPod be treated as a hard drive.
Select the iPod in iTunes. Tick *Enable disk use*.
it just seems a shame that an upgrade in software would result in reduced functionality
If this were the case, then yes it would be a shame.

  • TS1538 My itunes no longer recognises ipod and i now can't sync my ipod??

I can't sync my ipod because itunes won't recognise it

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    Or
    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

  • HT4623 My ipod does not have a "software update". I have reset the ipod and now can't download anything to it.

I have reset my ipod and cleared all the info on it. Now I am unable to download any apps. It says I need to update the software but I don't seem to have that capability. What do I do?

Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
