Unprompted Log out occurring after 10.10.3 update

I'm having a problem since updating to 10.10.3: Log out dialog pops up, after a few minutes of non-mouse input, asking "are you sure you want to log out", without being prompted. I have installed the 10.10.3 update and the supplemental. There are other anomalies with audio related apps. Pandora in Firefox the volume control will cut to 0 without my input, or the sound will just totally cut out.
Thanks for your help.

  • Logging out behaviour after installing leopard

I believe that before I installed the Leopard upgrade when I would log out of one account on my machine and nothing was running, the system would just log off the account without prompting me and return the to the login screen.
After installing Leopard it seems to me that whether or not something is running the OS prompts me if I want to close all applications and continue logging out.
Is this a new behaviour of Leopard or is there something running in the background that I don't know about?
    thanks

To be honest, I can't be completely certain how things were in Tiger since I have always used ⌥⇧⌘Q to log out immediately (assuming there aren't any unsaved changes), but the existence of both options suggests to me that the dialogue was always there. Maybe the wording was different, but I don't think the behaviour has changed...

  • Log out user after an inactive period

I am using DW CS3 and a MySQL database.
Is there any way I can automatically log out a user if they have been inactive for a period of time?
The reason I am asking, is that I have been testing my latest site and even if I close all windows in a browser (not quitting the browser) and then go to history, I can still get to protected pages. This could maybe a potential problem if users never quit their browser, they could still be logged in after days of inactivity.
This is about my 5th site I have created using ADDT. The more I use the more I find it capable of. But this has me stumped.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    PM

    Hi Paul,
checking a user´s inactivity could mean checking if his/her session still runs of if it´s expired by now -- whenever you apply a "Restrict access to Page" behaviour to whatever page, this behaviour will not just check things like user levels etc, but also if the session is still running.
As this behaviour also cares for a redirection to your login page, I think you should apply this to every page which needs this kind of protection.

Done.  In the future, you may want to use the report button -- a mod will find it much faster.

  • Get logged out seconds after I login

When I log in I see the desktop for a split second and then I get the login screen again. I have run disk repair and repair permissions via the OSX Snow Leopard install disk to no avail. I have a backup bootable disk so I can access the drive. I am thinking some startup preference is corrupted. Are there some preferences I can delete from my user directory?

  • Can't log into server after 10.5.5 update

After running the 10.5.5 update on our Intel Xserve, it keeps getting stuck at the login window. I typed in the correct admin login info, the window would go away as if it was going to the next step, then it came back again. All services are running fine and I can get on via SA and WGM (from another computer) but not to the Desktop (via Remote Desktop). I noticed every time I try to log on (correctly) as admin, the whole service would restart. I get this from the Terminal window while I ssh and logged in from another computer after hit the Log In button: Sep 16 11:23:17 server1 loginwindow[2249]: Unable to load Info.plist exceptions.
Any ideas? I am afraid to update the other Xserve now..... Thanks!

I have a similar problem, although with 10.5.4 rather than 10.5.5... Seems all services work, however, I can't log into the Finder.
I just set this server up 2 weeks ago, so was able to give the users back their previous server for the time being. However, after an hour on the phone with Apple, their techs have exhausted all ideas. Here's what I've tried so far with prompting from Apple...
    1. boot from dvd, run permissions and disk repair
    reboot. no difference
    2. from a remote machine, access WGM, add new user, check home folders of existing users, check permissions, create another administrator user with a new home, try again with new user, no difference.
    3. wipe preferences via Terminal: boot single user, mount -uw /, run mv /Library/Preferences /Library/Prefencesold
    reboot. no difference
    4. changed preferences back to where they were by removing new (rm), and renaming old (mv) - still no access to finder
    5. suggested remotely installing 10.5.5 as last resort - this is the last idea the Apple technician had. I haven't done it yet.
It seems to be a corrupt finder or login issue more than a server issue as all services are running fine
    6. In single user mode again, I tried a rm .AppleSetupDone which allowed me to recreate the server user and settings, but still did not allow access to the Finder.
    7. One of the other techs here suggested safe mode, hadn't tried that. - still wouldn't allow me to log into the Finder
    8. Tried boot from Disk Warrior DVD (latest version) - wouldn't boot
    sigh...
Ideas anyone? I'm close to wiping and rebuilding this server, however the user permissions are a little bit intricate so it would sure be nice to get it running again.
    thanks, Dave

  • Since updating to iOS 6, my iPad 2 keeps loosing connection with iTunes. I have tried changing the date, logging out then back in, iTunes is updated.....what's going on???? I can't update any apps nor can I download new ones.....

What's going on with iOS6...... Since I updated to it, I have had nothing but hassles....

Are you losing the connection to iTunes on the iPad or the computer? You are saying that iTunes is updated. Of course iTunes is updated when you update the iOS software. That's a no brainer.
If you mean that iTunes is updated on the computer, that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with downloading and updating apps on the iPad itself so changing the date on the iPad, signing in and out of the stores on the iPad .... Doing any of that on the iPad would have nothing to do with iTunes on your computer.
If .... you have not been able to connect to the iTunes or app stores at all on the iPad - try this ...
Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services (swipe to the bottom of the page to find this)>Location Based iAds>Off.
If the downloads are stalled or "waiting" - try these suggestions.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If you can't connect at all - you can also try rebooting your router. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

  • Log-in Issue after 10.6.7 update

In my case the computer won't login - constantly got me back to the login screen. I logged in in a safe mode, and then shut the computer down. This helped.
Now I'm cleaning caches, etc. Hope this helps.

Because I've had strange problems with past system update downloads, I now always get my system updates from http://support.apple.com/downloads/
I always use the Update Combo version. It installs a fresh set of all previous updates as well as the new one. This gives you a fresh beginning with system 10.6.x. Since I adopted that practice, I've had no more issues with updates.

  • Desktop blurred out/missing after 10.10.2 update

So today I updated my Mid-2011 27" iMac to 10.10.2 from 10.10.1.  As soon as I got the machine restarted I found that my desktop image was all blurred out and my desktop file icons were all missing/not displaying.  If I open a Finder window, I can see everything there and have access to them.  Everything opens very quick and navigation is snappy when I go from the Finder window, I just can't see anything!  I tried to see if I could change my desktop image, but I cannot do that no matter what image I choose.  It is still the blurred out image I was using before the update.
This is rather confusing.  I've never had this happen before.  Actually, this is the first problem I've had with any update in the past few years.  Anyone have any thoughts?

Yes.  And every time I try to select a new image, it does nothing.  It won't change the image that is on the desktop.  The Desktop and Screensaver Preferences windows shows that I have changed it, but the reality is that it has not. See below:
And yes, I changed it to the Dark Mode, which is why it looks different.

  • Skype for Android comes back after log out

I'll try this message again because apparently the first time I wrote it it just went into the ether of the internet. Recently Skype on my S4 has been logging back in and starting up after I've logged out even after I've forced closed the app. Previously when I closed the app by signing out it would completely get out of skype. If this behavior continues I will make sure that I make my company and friends leave skype and Lync (since they are becoming the same thing). This is on top of the terrible redesign of the desktop app that you pretended to listen to feedback on but after over 80 pages of feedback, decided not to listen to at all. Please don't present this as a "feature" or say that you can solve the problem by turning off "Sign in automatically" and "turning off notificiations." I want those things to remain as I don't want to have to enter my password each time I use the app and I would like the notifications when in use. And turning them on and off each time is the mark of a terrible interface. If this is some sort of feature, it needs to be made separate and made sure that Skype doesn't autorun when turning on your phone. I should mention that some of these have been notifications in the middle of the night, so it not only can affect ones sleep, it can cause additional communication problems with people thinking they are online when they truly are not. Definitely not something you want in a business or personal atmosphere.  Skype for Android even with it's new notifications is still a terrible battery hog, with no option to change the now strange formatting and call button is in a place that results in a lot of unintentional calls because it's by where the touch keyboard is instead of at the top like it was previously. There is no reason that Skype should come back after being forced closed, but it should not have to get to that point. Please fix ASAP. This does explain some of the terrible battery life I've been experiencing lately.

THERE IS A WORKAROUND FOR THIS VERY ANNOYING AND BAD BEHAVIOUR I also have experienced this problem on S4mini, SII and other Android devices running all sorts of versions of AOSP. You are all correct that this should not happen (signout should == signout) but if you don't want to reboot you Android all the time then do the following (instructions for A 4.4.2 Kitkat on Samsung running TouchWiz but similar to other devices)0. Signout of SKYPE1.    SETTINGS2.        MORE ...3.            APPLICATION MANAGER4.                RUNNINGYou should find a SKYPE process; select it and STOP (ignoring any warnings). Voila, no more zombie SKYPE Worring things include being online and woken in the middle of the night - but more so is that the running process is VIDEOMONITOR - now why would MSFT want to leave that running???

  • When "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, display gets black and a weird pixelation when I move the mouse

When "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, and those X minutes pass by, my MBA logs out. After that, when I want to use it again, I found that display is totally black and if I use the touchpad, then I can start seeing "what is behind" that black screen (Login Window), like you can see on the picture:
I took it to Tech Service and they didnt find out any hardware issue. Any ideas?

I recently found out that this only happens when DISPLAY is set to go to sleep minutes before the "Log out after X minutes of inactivity". I had "Display sleep" option set to 5 minutes and "Log out after 10 minutes of inactivity" and this causes the display to go to sleep first (screen goes black) and then, 5 minutes later, it logs out.
If "Display sleep" is off and "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, the issue does not replicate. So Im thinking it has something to do with the screen being black at the moment it logs out. Can you try and replicate that?
I will be checking the thread you suggested and hopefully oudgrad1764 can find a solution. Thanks a lot.

  • Guest users in WLC are not logged out after pre defined time.

    Hi,
My customer wants to create guest users in wireless lan controller. We were successfully able to create that and it worked . But the problem is that to access the internet the users have to change the "proxy server" settings on the internet explorer. As a result the guest users are not logged out automatically after the pre defined amount of time. We enabled " by pass proxy server " settings in internet explorer also, unfortunately it didnt work too.
If we disable the proxy settings in internet explorer customers were logged out, but the problem is that once the customer log in he will change the proxy settings in internet explorer to browse net  but wont get disconnect unless and untill he manually change the proxy settings in the internet explorer.
Is there any other way to solve this issue? Can any one provide any alternative solution  if possible.
    Regards,
    Bibin

Can you explain how your proxy server has anything to do with your wireless access duration?
Does you proxy server have the logic that stops the internet access after a period of time? If so, I assume you turn proxy off in order to web-authenticate? If so, then you just need to tell the browser to not proxy for the virtual IP address of the WLC.   You'll never get redirected to the webauth page if you don't send a https request to it (as if, your browser is sending it the IP of your proxy server).

  • Is there any benefit to the "System" if I regularly log out?

    Hi all,
Is there any system changes that occur when I log out that could be considered a benefit  for performance?
Or is there a downside to it?
    So long for now, TOM

    HI,
Responding to the comment, "If you're using it as a workstation/desktop system then that's a different issue that requires additional thought."
Yes. I am speaking of good "old fashioned" desktop computing.  We used to have things happen in the bad old days, like memory leaks which got swept out after a reboot.
I understand Mac OS is a modern OS and got past those issues.
I was just wondering what actually goes on when you "log out." After a week of running all kinds of different apps, I was wondering if a "clean page" log in was a smart idea or not.
For example, weekly I run Cocktail which I understand does a bit of "housecleaning" that is desirable.
I love being able to have such a reliable OS. Thanks Apple!
Thanks, and so long for now, TOM

  • Log out problem

    Hi,
My machine logs out automatically after about 2 hours when left untouched.
This is good for security I guess, but sometimes when i want to listen to music for example without using the mac it will still log out automatically. I have looked at the energy settings, have dragged the slider to never sleep but it still logs out by itself after 2 hours. Is there anyway round this?
    Thanks.

Open the Security pane of System Preferences and check whether the computer is set to automatically log you out after a period of inactivity.

  • How to log out of apple store?

There is no log out button after visiting the Apple or MAC store.  Have i missed something?
    Thank you for any pointer.

I'll have to disagree that there is "no need to do that."
    Here's my situation:
I have a few different Apple IDs (for personal, for business).  I received an email telling me that there was updated information regarding the status and estimated shipping date for my Mac Pro order.  I clicked through to store.apple.com and entered my credentials to check the status of my order.  After signing in, I realized that I used the wrong Apple ID and I should have used a different one.  But...there is no way to sign out (that I can find).  And even if I close out that browser window and then re-visit the page, it keeps my logged in.  So, my concern isn't about someone being able to come along and purchase something because I'm perpetually logged in, my concern is that now I can't get to the information I need because I can't sign in with a different ID.
I'm going to try and quit my browser entirely now (which is a hassle for a handful of reasons); but I find it quite surprising that a) there is no clean or clear way to sign out and b) everyone seems to think there is no use case for signing out.  I can think of several, including my example above.
