Unread emails on iOS marked as read on outlook 2013 laptop

Hello,
We are having a bit of a problem with outlook. we are using exchange server (Office 365 Business Premium). we are using iphone 5 and if we leave some emails unread on our phone's we see it marked as read once we check
our laptop using outlook.
hope you can help us. thanks.

Hi,
I am using Exchange 2010 server and iPhone 5, the same behavior as yours.
And I refresh the emails in iPhone 5 manually, the unreaded email becomes read.
I think it need some times to sync the changes.
If the status not changed after refreshing manually, I suggest use Windows Phone for test if it is convenient.
If it works in Windows Phone, I suggest asking iPhone support for help so that we can get more professional suggestions.
If it doesn't work in Windows Phone, since Office 365 is different from Exchange 2013 server, I suggest asking Office 365 Forum for help. For your convenience:

  • Adobe Reader X and XI slow when emailing an attachment out of Reader to Outlook 2013 32bit

I have two new Lenovo 64bit computers with 32 bit Outlook 2013.  It takes over 45 seconds for the compose email to pop up when I attach a file or send a file through Adobe Reader (Depending on version).  I've tried the current version of X and XI.  Uninstalled and reinstalled both versions and also the Microsoft Office 2013 package.  It has to be something to do with Reader because other applications attach the email just fine.  I've exhausted my options and I am unable to find anything searching online.  I've found a few older discussions and none of those solutions have worked.  Any help would be great.

    Hi all,
I found a workaround the problem I was describing.
Apparently Adobe has implemented something called Protection Mode
for a description see this link :
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html
The workaround (I call it a workaround because you have to disable this new Security measure)
is to do the following: Open Adobe Reader X --> Go to Edit --> Preferences in the menu  --> General --> un-check "Enable Protected Mode at Startup"
Then you will have to click Continue and restart Adobe Reader for the change to take place.
Now this is only a workaround as it disables all of the new Protected Mode security features so please keep that in mind.
Hopefully adobe will address the Outlook integration piece so that the Printing script will be allowed to open and close Adobe like in un-protected mode...
Hope this helps others who have been searching for a workaround...
    Kevin.

  • Messages delivered to iPhone 4s are marked as read in outlook

I just got my iPhone working with Outlook.  When messages are delivered to my iPhone they are automatically marked as read in Outlook. This happens even before I open a message on my iPhone.  Is there a setting that will allow me to keep messages marked as unread until I read them in Outlook?

If it is an Exchange account or an IMAP account, read/unread marks synchronize with the server and all clients set up to access it via IMAP or Exchange protocols. If one or more of the clients is using POP3, then unread marks do not synchronize.  Same goes for the ability to see and file to folders.
How are you set up to access your work e-mail in Outlook?

  • ActiveSync Issues - Emails remain unread on iPhones after marked as read in OWA/Outlook

    Environment:
    Exchange 2010 SP2 CU4v2
    iPhones with IOS 6.0+
    Background:
We've spent a couple weeks troubleshooting this since the vast majority of our users are not experiencing the email synching issue with their mobile devices. However, we have a few users that are remote (international) saying that activesync is not properly
marking mail as read when initially interacting with it via OWA/Outlook.
The problem isn't regularly reproducable -- it's sporadic.
    There are two issues really:
The mail icon indicates X number of unread messages, however when navigating into the mailbox on the phone, nothing is "unread" -- There is only one mailbox -- there is no confusion about unread mail being in a different account.
Mail marked as read in OWA/Outlook never gets marked as read in the mailbox on the iPhone.
    Steps Taken:
We've had them remove/readd the activesync account on their device, which initially solves the problem only for it to resuface.
We've asked them to change their activesync settings between Push, Fetch, and Manual.
Messages marked as unread always remain unread unless manually opened on the phone. No additional amount of time marks the message as unread unless it is manually opened on the phone.
We've asked users to try interacting with mail through wifi on a reliable network instead of their cellular network. Same results.
We don't have any other mobile devices to compare to since everyone is using an iPhone. If only someone had windows mobile.
Our thoughts are that this is due to some sort of latency issue that activesync is unable to handle, since only these remote users are experiencing the issue. Using in-office wifi the latency between their device and the CAS server is ~250ms. Over cellular
networks.. unknown. I would think the activesync could handle this.
Are there any server-side settings that can be changed on the exchange servers that could mitigate these problems?

Im sure more knowledgeable members will chime in here, but I would say the issue is in ios 6.0 here. The way to test would be if users on previous verison of ios have the same issue. There are various discussions on apples forums regarding ios 6.0 and activesync/
exchange. Myself personally I have not updated to ios 6.0 and im still using 5.1.1 and Ive not had any exchange/activesync issues. Being a windows user you tend to hold off on major updates / SP releases until the rest of the masses have discovered the flaws.
Likewise i cant say im keen to jump to ios 6.0 just yet.
    Good read here :

  • Email not being marked as read

I've got an ongoing problem where when I read email on one device, it is still marked as unread on my other devices.  To get another device to mark the email as read, I must open the mail app (as the foreground application, not just running in the background), and go to the inbox.  Then, after about 20 seconds of waiting, it will mark the emails that I've previously read on another device as read.
I have a MacBook Pro, an iPhone, and an iPad, and it is tedious and irritating and confusing to always have these phantom new messages showing on every device, which turn out to be the emails that I've read elsewhere many hours prior.
I've tried experimenting with different push settings for Mail, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
Is there anything I can do to have my various devices stay in active sync in regards to when emails are marked as read?

If you haven't already tried, you might try deleting and adding back the account on all effected devices.  To do this on an iOS device, go to Settings>iCloud, turn Mail off, then back on.  To do this on a Mac, go to System Preferences>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac then go back and check Mail again.

  • All email messages are marked as read with imap account automatically.

I have a imap account pointing to an exchange 2007 server. The messages are being marked as read automatically. I removed any settings on a computer accessing the same account with outlook, that might be causing this.

Let me clarify what I said across all the responses in this topic. If you are operating a PC with say Outlook Express or Windows Mail, and a Mac with Mail, and furthermore if both are able to download a message from a POP server, and on both computers it is marked as Unread, then reading the message on one of the computers will not cause it to then be marked as Read on the other, operating in POP.
But if the server makes the assumption that the first computer to download a message from it means that it is also then Read, then of course taking away one of the computers will alter things. This is what I said in:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10506769#10506769
If you can disprove this, then lay out your facts in detail, but don't mix looking at the server with Firefox on one computer, and Mail on still another. Firefox is not an email client, but a browser. Using Thunderbird on the PC, and Mail on the Mac would be an equivalent test.

  • Can't receive unread email... can recieve read

I reciently upgraded from my iBook G4 to a MacBook and when I set up Mail an odd thing happened: all email in my POP3 yahoo and gmail accounts that were marked as read download just fine, but anything marked as unread does not. So, I can't get any new mail but have full access to old emails.
I've tried all I know to fix this including starting all over by deleting the Mail folder in the Library and the com.apple.mail.plist file in Preferences. I don't think its a server setting that I messed up as it is a problem with both gmail and yahoo and because it works fine on my old laptop.
Anyone with any ideas would be a HUGE help.
    Thanks,
    Gianvieve

I have the same problem using Mail 2.1.1 on my G4 and on my MAcBook Pro: I can access the mail server (Exchange, and I checked with the opeator), but Mail behaves as if there were no new mails.
Mail 2.1 works perfect on my G5.
    Anyone any idea?

  • Items wont get marked as 'Read' in Outlook

The problem I have is that when I read an email on my Iphone it continues to appears as 'Unread' on Outlook.
So at the moment I have 24 unread emails in Outlook dating back to the 12 of May and only 9 unread emails on my Iphone.
My Iphone is set to sync the last month of emails in my inbox and I have an email from last Thursday I definitely read on my Iphone (and appears as unread) which appears as 'Unread' in my Outlook despite having a full 3G signal and the WiFi is switched off as well.
Anybody seen this before or can suggest a fix?
    Thanks

  • Problem Signing Email with Digital Certificate from Smart Card, Outlook 2013

Hi there, I'm the IT guy for a small company.  I've configured several people in the company to use their smart cards for email signing through Outlook 2013, but a a few computers are giving me this error:
"Microsoft Outlook cannot sign or encrypt this message because there are no certificates which can be used to send from the e-mail address '<e-mail address>'. Either get a new digital ID to use with this account, or use the Accounts button to
send the message using an account that you have certificates for."
I've been in the Trust Center, I see the signing and encrypting certificates. (SHA-1 and 3DES).  Yet when I try to sign, Outlook always fails on the error.
For my computer, I was able to fix this by adding a "SupressNameChecks" DWORD set to 1 in the Registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook.  However, this fix is not working for the other people in the company.
Any other ideas?  Really pulling my hair out on this one, I've tried everything I could find on the net it seems.

    Hi,
Please checked “E-mail name” under the section ‘Include this information in alternate subject name” on the Subject Name tab of the certificate template.
We can export the entrust managed services root CA cert from a working machine and import into the trusted root store of a non-working machine. For detailed steps about it, please refer to:

  • When I read email on iPhone, I want it to be marked as read in Outlook

I keep thinking I've found an answer on here, but to no avail, I cannot find a discussion that meets my needs.
Here's the deal.  I have Yahoo on my iPhone, right?  When I read an email in my Yahoo account on my iPhone, and later log into my Yahoo account, it shows those messages as read.  Heck, I can even file my emails away in my folders, if I want to; i.e. move them over to my bills folder, or my purchases folder, or my mom folder. lol
Now, here's the deal with my other account tho.  I have my work emails going to my iPhone too.  At work, I use Outlook.  I do not know a whole lot about how things are set up over here, but I have access to answers if you guys can help me find out the right questions to ask.
Here's my issue:  When I read a work email on my iPhone, and I get to work the next morning, there it is, bold and unread.  I really want it to show as read.
I get an obnoxious amount of work emails.  The whole point in keeping up with them on my phone is to save me time in the long run.  So, when I get to work and have to re-read them all, I've saved nothing.
    Please help!
Also, it would be phenomenal if you could also help me find a way to toss work emails in folders I have set up on my Outlook, as well.

  • Email marked as read on outlook without actually reading

    Hi,
When I get an email in outlook it shows as unread. Once the email is sent to my blackberry the status on outlook changes to read (even without me ever opening the email on outlook or the blackberry). How can I stop this? I did a lot of research but nothing resolved it. I called my wireless provider (verizon) and they said it must be an outlook setting but other people are telling me it's a known glitch with the blackberry.
Does anyone have a fix for this???
    Thank You!

Use OWA (Outlook Web Access) Not POP3 Settings
Use OWA (Outlook Web Access) Not POP3 Settings
Use OWA (Outlook Web Access) Not POP3 Settings
Okay.  This is doing this because your bb is not logging into the owa (outlook web access), it's using  POP3.  In order to use owa it must be enabled on your exchange server (ask your admin if you have this option).  An owa address is something like https://mail.yourcompay.com/owa, depending how your admin set this up it could be named something else.  You can either get to this option through your phone companys (BIS) website or on the bb itself.
If you use your phone companys website (BIS) to configure this option just log in and find the topic that reads something like this -
"How do I set up BlackBerry Internet E-mail using a My T-Mobile Account?"
This will give you the instruction for setting up the account for owa.  (Took me a little bit to find this in my tmobile account.)  During this setup there should be an option to check called use owa.  You have completed the setup and never saw that option then start over and find that option.
If you go through the bb's setting on the actual device the way to get to this option is kind of strange (at least it was the only way I could figure out how to get to it on my phone).
I started by deleting the email account off the phone then added a new account.  Go back to the account setting and change the password to a wrong password.  After you select "ok" or "next"  or whatever to get to the next screen you will get a message saying could not connect to server or error or something like that.  Now you should have a option to configure the device manually.  This option will get you to page to allow you to select OWA.  Then just configure you bb for owa and you are good to go.
Sorry this is such a crude post.  I usually take the time to give very accurate, step-by-step instructions, but I do not have time.  Good luck to all with this issue.

  • How can I stop emails pushed to the Curve from getting marked as "Read" in Outlook!

I get 100 or so emails a day, and get them bolded in Outlook until I read them.  In two of my three email accounts, the emails remain bolded in Outlook even after being pushed to the Curve.  In the third, which runs through my work server, all emails come in unbolded as if they're already read.
This is confusing me and making it hard to go back and pick up important emails (and delete others).  Anyone got any ideas of how to fix this in my email set-up on the Curve?
    Thanks much.

your other two email accounts, which type are they? MSN, Hotmail, Yahoo, or Gmail or another provider? I have one of each of these and i have mine setup as delete on mailbox and server, wireless reconcile on and on conflict mailbox wins, so when i see these emails on my computer, they are already read and if deleted( yahoo and gmail) will be deleted on the server, the msn and hotmail just stay as read but not deleted.

  • How can I read an email on my iPad and have it not be marked as read?

I have an Exchange account set up on my iPad for my work email. My email is partly organized such that I look at unread emails (whether or not I've actually read them) for actions required. However, when I tap an email on my iPad, it is automatically marked as read as soon as it comes up in the reading pane. I do realize I can tap a button to have it marked as unread, but I want the default to be that an email is not marked as read. Any feedback?

On the iPad, using the mail app, there is no way to do what you are asking without tapping the flag icon and marking the item as unread. Have you tried the OWA app for the iPad? It may have that functionality, but I haven't tested it as you need an Office 365 subscription with Exchange support to use the app.

  • Iphone read vs. unread emails + imap vs. pop? PULLEASE HELP

    Hey ya!
So I have 5 email accounts that I track regularly:
This is how I have it set up on my MacBookPro:
    1) work, exchange IMAP
    2) personal, third party POP3
    3) business, gmail, pop3
    4) business, gmail, pop3
    5) personal, gmail, pop3
And I used to have a treo palm 700xw that would have the following behavior:
    1) Work exchange imap: If I read a piece of email at work or on my macbook, the emails would download to my phone and be marked as already read - and if they hadn't been read yet, if I read them from my phone, they would be marked as read on the other two systems
    2) gmail accounts - on my phone, if I read them, they would be marked read all around
    3) personal third party pop - If the emails were downloaded to my computer already, they would show up as unread on my phone (even if I hadn't read them yet).
NOW, with my new iphone, it seems that everything is showing up as unread -
A new gmail or 3rd party email will come in to my macbook pro (via pop3), i read them all - and then i update the info on my phone and they still show up as unread!
    MOST ANNOYING THING EVVVER.
Any ideas on how to be smart about this?
I'm having a huge headache and can't figure out the best combo
    THANKS ALL!!

If you want to keep mailboxes and messages for an email account synchronized between multiple email clients used to access the account, you need an IMAP account which is designed for this.
If an account can be accessed as a POP or IMAP account, there are potential problems when accessing the account as a POP account with one email client and as an IMAP account with another email client - which defeats the purpose and benefit of an IMAP account.
If you access an account as a POP account, you can't store sent messages on the server. The account's Sent mailbox will not be synchronized with the server with different email clients used to access the account.
If you want synchronization including when a message has been read with one email client being marked as read when checking the account's Inbox mailbox with another email client, you need to access the account as an IMAP account with both email clients used to access the account.

  • POP3 email marked as read on server before being read

Problem: Emails downloaded to my iPhone are marked as read on the server, even when they have not been read on either the iPhone, server/webmail or any other email client. When iPhone recieves a new email, it is listed as unread on the phone but on the server's webmail the same email will be listed as read. This sounds exactly like the problem described here, but unfortunately there was no solution to that discussion. The main issue for me when trying to find the new/unread email via webmail, when my inbox is sorted by conversation/thread, is that all the emails look the same. The new email is not highlighted differently (ie. unread) to the other 99 emails on the page and so is difficult to find.
More information: My iPhone is supplied by my employer and is used primarily for work. The primary mail account is configured to sync with my employer's Exchange server. This all works fine. I have added a second account to send/retrieve SMTP/POP3 email to/from my home ISP's mail server. This all works fine too (but with the above mentioned problem). With my previous phone (Windows Mobile), this same setup worked fine but without items on the server being marked as read.
Example: At work, on my PC, I have a web browser tab open on my home ISP's webmail page. The iPhone chimes and displays a new email notice on its lockscreen. Without touching the iPhone, I check my webmail on the PC to read the new email. In the list of emails in my webmail Inbox, the new email is already marked as read, even though I have not yet opened it on the iPhone nor via webmail. Futher to this, if I send myself an email from work to home, and immediately check my webmail, I can see the email listed as unread. Without opening the email, if I allow the iPhone to check for new email (or manually make it check) but do not open the new email, then refresh the webmail page, that new email has now become marked as read.
Further information: My ISP does not offer IMAP; this is stated very clearly on their user help/email setup wiki pages. My iPhone is configured to use their POP3 server address and port 110, the same as I have configured on my home PC. My work email account is configured for Push, my home account is configured for Fetch - hourly. The account advanced settings... Deleted Messages=never remove, Use SSL=off, Authentication=password, Delete from server=never, Server Port=110, S/MIME=off.
Any ideas that the heck is going on here?
