Unread Message Icon

Verizon BB Curve. Shipped with 4.3 OS.
I have had this unit for about 6 months. Was working great. Yesterday I upgraded to 4.5 and now I have a persistent unread message icon claiming 2 unread messages. I have deleted all messages in both my push mail inboxes, deleted the missed call log, deleted all SMS messages, checked EVERY folder in this unit, removed the battery for about 15 minutes. No matter what I do it shows this icon and claims 2 unread messages. Anyone out there know what the deal is with this? “Feature” of 4.5?

If you have a rogue New Message icon on your Homescreen, or a negative count (-1), any one of these solutions could clear it, or reset it to zero:
Try these options:
    * Hard Reset the BlackBerry by holding ALT, CAP (right Shift key), and DEL (or pulling out and reinserting the battery)
    * View Messages > Saved Messages
    * View Messages > View Folders, check each folder (missed calls, SMS in and out boxes, MMS in and out boxes, Saved, browser, phone logs etc)
    * Scroll to top of message folder, over the date heading, click or press menu to MARK PRIOR OPEN
    * Change your theme and see if it persists, and change back to your desired theme. (Options > Theme > select.)
    * Wipe and reload your OS.

  • My 4S battery died as a message was incoming, "Unread message" icon not going away

My phone battery died as a message was incoming. Now when I charged it and turned it back on, the little red 1 on the message icon was there. I opened the message, read it, then went back to the home page..but the icon is still showing one unread message. I rebooted my phone, it went away until i opened the message icon, when I closed it again the 1 came back. Whenever I receive a new message, it just adds to the total, showing 2 even though there is only one!
    Any help?

You could simply clean out any muck in there with a soft brush.

  • Unread Messages Icon

On my old bb, it always said that I had 3 unread messages, but I searched everywhere and couldn't find them. I just got a new bb today and when all my data got transferred over, my new one is now saying that I have 3 unread messages. I've deleted all old messages, emails and voicemails. I also removed my email account from my phone and it is still there. I'm not sure what else to check or how to get rid of it. If anyone could help, I would be forever grateful!

Nevermind...I guess I had some saved messages that I forgot about and that's what the icon was for!

  • Unread Message Icon remains once read since upgrad...

When I receive a new SMS message, and read it. The unread message notifcation doesn't disappear. The only way I've found to get rid of them is to use Nokia Suite, and read them there. Otherwise the notification icon remains. Very annoying.

  • Messages not marked read if last unread message

I sort incoming mail into various folders
I use the "Move to next unread" button to go through messages
I configured mail to be marked read immediately upon display
This works perfectly till I reach the last unread message in any folder - clicking the "move to next unread" button will move me to the next folder with an unread message, BUT, the last unread message in the just exited folder is left marked unread
I've tried compacting my folders, deleting my .msf files, and, the 'repair folder' option in the properties pages of the folders, but nothing has worked
Can any one suggest something else to try?

re: Does it do this if you use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move to next in the list; the last one?
''The down arrow key only moves the focus to the following folder, and does not land on or display a message in that folder ''
If the focus is on the Folder in the Folder Pane , then the arrows will move up and down the Folder Pane list.
If the focus in on a selected email in the list of emails you can use the up and down arrows to move up and down the list. As you select an email, it is displayed in the Message Pane below and marked as read. I use this method alot as it is quicker than moving the mouse over any buttons.
I'm trying to work out if this is something related only to the 'Next unread button' or whether something else is conflicting. I presume if you click on the email it is marked as read..
So please tell me if the use of arrows to select emails, still causes the issue.
Test if the Sort Order effects the marking of the last unread email.
Please select the following Sort Order and tell me if the 'Next unread' button works with a different Sort by order.
View > Sort by > Date - Descending - unthreaded
Do you use the 'Quick Filter Bar' to 'Show only unread messages' - icon looks likea pair of sunglasses?
If no. could you please test.
Select the 'Show only unread messages' - then use the 'Move to the Next unread mesage' button.
Does it still fail to mark the last email as read?
What version of Thunderbird are you using?
    What OS ?
Confirm Pop or imap mail account?
Please test whether their are any addons causing a conflict:
    In Thunderbird
'Help > 'REstart with Addons disabled'
then use the Next unread button method to see if it works ok.
If it works ok then an addon is causing an issue.

  • ICloud Mail on my MacBook Pro incorrectly displays number of unread messages

The iCloud account in Mail displays 1 unread message when all are read.  I am unable to "mark all messages as read" to remove the 1 unread message icon.  When I send multiple test emails to the iCloud account, it still only displays 1 unread message when there are more.  The iCloud account on my iOS devices correctly displays the number of unread email messages.

This is an addition to my earlier statement...
This anomoly with Mail displaying 1 unread message regardless of the fact all messages are read is only occurring in Mail.  I set up iCloud email in Outlook for Mac 2011 and it correctly displays the number of unread messages.

  • Mail's dock icon is "badged" with 300 "unread" messages?

Hello, I'm having an issue in Apple Mail wherein every time I open the app, it badges the dock icon with 300 unread messages.... but the app itself (i.e. Main window) shows NO new messages. Anyone have any clue what's going on?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
PS - For my system specs, see my sig, as they're always kept up-to-date.

Thanks Mulder! Worked like a charm (mostly).
Let me clarify about the mostly part.
I followed the directions you gave and lo and behold my "dock count" was back to normal. The only problem was, all of my RSS articles are showing a header that looks like an email, instead of an RSS message. (Y'know with the Blue...)
I've written down all of the RSS feeds I'm subscribed to in TextEdit. I'll go to each site and add them again manually and get back with you if that works.
    Thanks again!

  • Dock icon says there are unread messages - there arent' any

Since a few weeks I've had this problem:
Every morning I go through my e-mail, after reading every one of them and marking them as read, the Dock icon tells me there are still unread messages.
Even selecting everything in my inbox (28512 messages), marking everything unread and then marking everything read (an operation that takes quite a while) there are still unread messages left, according to the Dock icon.
The only way I know how to fix it is to restart Mail.
Anyone know what's going on here? It's getting quite irritating...

I, too, am having a problem finding "phantom" unread messages. I've got a number of accounts set up and three of them are showing this problem. It started when I needed to restart mail from a time machine back-up after a problem with my system. The mail messages were all imported into the mail database and some show now as unread. I've been through all the in boxes and found no unread messages...
    any help would be welcome.

  • Can't get rid of unread mail icon--shows 2 unread messages but can't find any

I've got a smart mailbox that shows unread messages so I can easily see what new and unread mail I have.  The problem is it gives me the notification icon that indicates I have two unread messages, yet the mailbox does not show any messages as unread...  This isn't a huge problem, but the Mail icon in my dock always shows that I have new mail, and the notification icon is small enough that I can't always clearly see if it's the "usual 2" or a higher number.  What could be causing this and how do I either find the unread messages or get this icon reduced to where it only shows me REAL unread messages?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
    Envelope Index
    ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • I've got the solution for hiding the "Unread BBM Messages icon" on top of your Homescreen

I previously posted a Question about how to delete the icon that shows that i have unread BBM message when I dont really have any unread message. Unfortunetaly no one was able to help me but anyway here is the solution:
1- Press Alt  + LGLG and then Press the Menu button -->  Clear log --> Delete.
2-Go to yuor Menu --> Options --> Secuirity Options --> Advanced Secuirity Options --> Memory Cleaning --> click Menu button on your phone and choose Clean now  and then wait till all the categories are checked
3- Optional** But it sometimes help your phone work faster. Go to your Blackberry Messenger and then go to your blocked list and mark them all and delete them from your list.
Now finally restart your mobile by either taking the battery off or Alt + aA + Del.

#1 and 2 have nothing to do with clearing unread BlackBerry Messenger notifications.
#3 certainly can can clear unread BBM notifications.
#2 Memory Cleaning does nothing but wipe your already-deleted memory space to a higher security allowance or government specification (and quite frankly is worthless to the average user unless they want to hide something like p0rn or messages/information related to illegal activity they don't wish a law enforcement agency to have access to.

The message icon shows 1 unread message when there are acvtually none. How do I fix this?

Given that you are very low in memory on your iPhone, it would be much easier to connect your phone to your computer and download iOS 8.1 via iTunes.  Memory won't be an issue this way.
