"unread" sent messages

I have a count next to my sent nessages tab.  It's not displaying in the dock, but is displayed next to the sent messages tab.

Hi Pippining,
Check your Preferences>General in the Mail App and make sure you don't have "Dock Unread Count" set to "All Mailboxes". In the screenprint below, you will see that I have mine set to Inbox Only. That is what you want:

  • Sent messages are being marked as "unread"

Ever since installing OS X 10.8.3, both my iMac and MBP have been leaving sent messages marked as "unread".  Not all outgoing messages are being left in this unread state, but most are.  Any ideas on why this might be happening and how to fix it?  Is anybody else having the problem?  A search of the forums shows some old material that might be related, but I don't see anything that has any answers.
    TIA for you help.

This stopped happening as mysteriously as it started for me. The only change made on my end is that I added some seemingly unrelated filter Rules - around the same time (i can't be entirely certain if it stopped before or after the Rule changes) the proble with sent messages being marked as unread stopped. I doubt that the Rules actually had a direct effect, though perhaps it altered the structure of memory enough to stop the bug from occurring (something which I've seen many times in my 40 years of programming).

  • IOS 8 Mail is showing my sent messages as unread in my gmail account

I had been using gmail's mail application because of its ability to push. With iOS 8, I figured I'd give Apple's Mail client another try.
When I send something from my Apple Mail client, it appears as an unread message in my inbox. The sent mail should not be unread... I've verified that this doesn't happen in the gmail mail client.
I checked my gmail filters to see if something was affecting sent messages, but didn't see anything.
Any ideas what I need to change? Is this is a problem others are seeing?
    Thanks!

    Hi Tim.
This kind of problems are caused by some corruption in one or more of the files used by the junk filter. Try this first:
    1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail and disable junk mail filtering.
    2. Quit Mail, then open it again.
    3. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk mail filtering, and configure it however you wish.
    4. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).

  • Apple Mail - Unread Spam Messages/ Inbox and Sent Folder

Fellow apple users ... I recently upgraded from Windows to iMac, what is amazing (but could not afford it until now). I love it, but ... I do have a few problems:
1/ I have two IMAP email account. My problem is that the Spam and Junk are being treated as New, Unread Messages. I really do not care about these and would like to see a notification only for mail which comes to my Inbox. Any ideas how this could be done ? I am sure there might be an easy setting ... if not then just setting up a Rule?!
2/ Probably this is a feature of Mail, but I would like to disable it. The INBOX, SEND and DRAFT are being showed in different tabs (e.g. I need to press 'show' 'hide'). I would like to have Inbox, sent draft under each account and not separate. How can I disable this?
3/ Sent messages. Since I am using IMAP I should have a copy of my sent messages in the 'sent' folder but the iMac sent messages do not appear sent folder on my iPhone. I checked if the messages are being saved in the same imap folder and it does look like they are ... so not sure?!
    Any ideas reply is welcome.
    Regards,
    Siki

    Hi Ernie,
Thank you for your reply and explination.
1/ Yes, the instructions did help. It was obvious, but I haven't ever used Mac's. They are the best, but switching over it's not the easiest.
2/ Have been thinking about changing to another mail client because of this (Thunderbird). Usually everything with iOS X makes sense, but having the MAILBOXES option and sub-structure (Inbox, Flagged, Drafts, Sent, Junk, Trash) is beyond me at the moment (a lightbulb might go off in the future ...)
3/ Not sure why, but now everything is working fine. Could be becuase of the update to iOS 6.

  • Unreadable sent mail messages

Im using 9300, recently, my friends called my attention that all my email messages are unreadable, the messages is like codes, a combination of letters and number characters. How can i fix this?

    Same prob here.
Just surface when I establish a BIS account, was working fine beforehand. Now, all mail SENT from my handheld gmail account contains jibberish.
Nothing is easy with these things

  • Gmail sent messages are being continously moved to Outbox in OS X mail.

Gmail sent messages are being moved to Outbox in OS X mail. You can not be sure whether they have been sent or going to be sent anyway. No network problems or SMTP problems exist, a variety of IOS and Windows equipment uses gmail without glitches.(OS X 10.9.2)

This stopped happening as mysteriously as it started for me. The only change made on my end is that I added some seemingly unrelated filter Rules - around the same time (i can't be entirely certain if it stopped before or after the Rule changes) the proble with sent messages being marked as unread stopped. • "sent" messages in Mail

I use my iPad to read mail on three accounts: iCloud and two POP accounts hosted on GoDaddy.
Mail has kept every SENT eMail since I bought the iPad. When I try to EDIT them, I can only select a few at a time to move to the trash. Tapping EDIT brigs up a screen with MARK ALL on it, but the choices after tapping that are FLAG or MARK AS UNREAD. There is nothing coming up like a SELECT ALL. Back in the EDIT screen, there is a TRASH selection, but it is greyed out.
    1) How can I limit the number of SENT messages to a month or so, like the TRASH messages are?
    2) Is there any way to bulk delete the SENT messages?
Separately, when I'm in the MAILBOXES screeen, it shows 547 FLAGGED messages. But when I tap that bar, an empty folder comes up. How can I remove them or file them if I cannot see them?

What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? If IMAP or .Mac, what are your Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Sent settings?
Please, report accurately what you found. Is the Sent Messages folder really named that way? Isn’t it Sent Messages (AccountName).mbox? If the .mbox suffix is missing, that could be the problem, and you can fix it by quitting Mail and adding the .mbox suffix to the name of the folder.

  • I have advised my icloud mail to NOT SAVE my sent messages.  However, it continues to SAVE ALL SENT MESSAGES.  How do I get it to stop saving them?

I want icloud to stop saving my SENT messages in my SENT folder.  I have NOT checked the SENT folder - but it continues to save the sent messages.  Alas, how to stop it?

The iTunes sync process does not include email account mailboxes and messages.
If the account is a POP account, all received messages tha remain on the server will be downloaded as new and unread messages. Messages in the account's Sent and Trash mailboxes will not be available since these mailboxes are not stored on the server with a POP account.
If the account is an IMAP account and you were storing the account's Sent and Deleted mailboxes on the server with the account settings on your iPhone, messages in all server stored mailboxes will be available again but must be re-downloaded which will occur when a server stored mailbox is selected.
Not sure why the apps in your iTunes library that were not selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and were not on your iPhone were selected and transferred, but the apps can be removed by deselecting the apps under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync.

  • Unread Sent Mail?

My sent mail is now being marked as unread. Um, I sent it so of course I didn't read it. Mail just started doing this. Any ideas?

I am using a rule to deal with this problem (first select all sent messages and mark as read, the rule will then work on new messages):
If all the following conditions are met:
Date Sent Is Less Than 1 days old
    From Contains youremailaddresss
    Message Type is Mail
    Perform the following actions:
    Move Message to mailbox Sent
    Mark as Read

  • Sent Messages mailbox crashes programme

Every time I click on my Sent Messages mailbox the Mail (1.1.1) programme crashes - can that be because it is too full? Is there any way I can get into the Mailbox in order to delete some emails? Or is there any other way of solving my problem? Would be grateful for any help.

    Thanks.
This mailbox is in some very bad shape.
Copy the Sent Messages.mbox and place the copy in another location of your choosing such as your Documents folder for backup purposes.
Repeat Show Package Contents for the original Sent Messages.mbox on the Desktop and delete all package content files except for the following files and empty the Trash.
    tableofcontents
    mbox
    Info.plist
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes.
Move the Sent Messages.mbox from the Desktop to and within the Mailboxes folder.
Launch Mail and this transferred mailbox will be available in the mailboxes drawer along with any other user created or imported mailboxes you may have.
Select this mailbox in the mailboxes drawer and the Mail.app will take additional time to re-index the mailbox.
If successful and when finished, all messages may appear as unread even though these are sent messages.
If so, select a message in the message list and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Select All. At the menu bar, go to Message > Mark and select As Read.
Use the Rebuild Mailbox function on this mailbox for good measure. With this mailbox selected in the mailboxes drawer, at the menu bar go to Mailbox and select Rebuild.
If this is successful and there are no missing messages, you can delete the copy of this Sent Messages.mbox placed in your Documents folder.

  • IMAP backup / sent messages question

I have 6050 messages in my sent Mail mailbox, but only 2905 messages in my Library>Mail>Mialboxes>Sent Messages.mbox>Messages folder. Why is this?
Does this mean I have no back-up of these 3000 missing messages?
Can I easily make a full backup of all my mail messages sent and received?
On the .mac server I have 3100 sent messages - shouldn't this be the same number as my sent mailbox in mail? I'm only using half of my alloted server space.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated

    Hi Recto.
I believe it's me who "disappeared" from the other thread -- Not sure why. Sorry for that.
The thing is, this could be a Mail IMAP issue that you can do little or nothing about (maybe that's why I didn't reply). Here are two threads where similar issues have also been discussed (they refer to each other in some of the posts):
IMAP Deleted Messages AND Unread Messages
IMAP deleted mail won't stay deleted...
BTW, do you have any Mail plugins? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

  • Rule to mark sent messages read

As some other people have noted in the forums, since I've upgraded to Leopard all my sent messages are getting marked as Unread for some reason I gave up trying to understand and/or fix.
So I was thinking of creating a rule to mark all sent messages as Read.
    How could I accomplish that?

don't know if this would work but you could try in mail>preferences>rules: "date sent" "is less than" and choose "1", then perform the following... "mark as read".
rules are applied to incoming messages so that new rule would not automatically apply to your sent mailbox. you would have to go to your sent mailbox once in a while, then select the emails you would like the rule to be applied to, then go to the menu message>apply rules.
if you have more than one rule and do not want other rules applied to these sent messages, then before applying the rule, you would have to go to mail>preferences>rules and mark as inactive the other rules, leaving only the above one as active.
a bit tedious workaround i admit and maybe other users may have a more elegant solution.
    hope this helps

  • Sent Messages are not saved in Sent Mailbox

It was working correctly but suddenly all my sent messages are not saved in the Sent Mailbox. I follow all the Mail Help instructions but nothing seems to work. Hope that someone can help me. I asked for help on december 14 but it was not helpful

The mailboxes drawer contains all mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk (if you have Junk Mail set to automatic).
If you have a .Mac or IMAP type account, you also have an account named icon for the .Mac or IMAP type account at the bottom of the mailboxes drawer. It is named by the Account Description you provided/entered for the account under the Account Information tab for the account preferences.
If you select save Sent messages on the server for a .Mac or IMAP type account, the account's Sent mailbox will be available under the account named icon in the mailboxes drawer along with all other server stored mailboxes.
To open the account named icon for your .Mac account to reveal the server stored mailboxes including the account's Sent mailbox, select the black triangle beside your .Mac account icon in the mailboxes drawer pointing it down.
Select the account's Sent mailbox and at the menu bar, go to Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For and select Sent.
If you deselect store Sent messages on the server for the account preferences, the account's Sent mailbox will be available under Sent in the mailboxes drawer and you can't use "Use This Mailbox For" for mailboxes stored locally on the hard drive. It can only be used for .Mac or IMAP type account mailboxes that are stored on the server.

  • Make Sent messages go to different folder??

How do I get a sent message to automatically go to a particular folder other than the Sent folder?

I don't think you can. However, you could set up Mail Prefs to automatically BCC yourself, then make a rule that said "if sender=you, then move message to such-and-such folder". The shortcoming of this approach is that if you have other BCC recipients besides yourself, that information, which would normally be visible in messages in the sent folder, would be lost. However, if you know how to do apple scripting, when that message arrived, rather than move it, maybe you could launch an apple script that moved any messages in the sent folder to such-and-such folder (which would be occurring only one at a time).

  • Sent messages not going to sent folder

I know this has been asked a bunch of times. This IPAD was purchased in May 2010.
When I go to the sent box on the IPAD it shows the same emails as are in the inbox, but no sent messages I sent via the IPAD.
I've read through all the emails discussion boards and can't find any suggestions that work. The email account is a secondary user on the MAC, so I'm not sure if that's an issue.
I've started blind copying myself to get the messages to the MAC, but is there a way to keep them in the IPAD SENT folder?

Firefox doesn't do email, it's strictly a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
If your problem is with Mozilla Thunderbird, let us know and we can move this thread to the Thunderbird queue. This question currently is in the Firefox queue for answers.
