Unreadable books

Hi,
I recently downloaded "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" to my Reader. Entire sections of this book are not legible on the device due to the fact that the copy is rendered in 3 point type on some pages. In addition, there are a bunch of graphics which are so pale or lacking in detail that it isn't possible to know what they are.
This is the second book I've paid for which had these problems. It has nothing to do with my Reader nor the process: it's the e-publisher who apparently failed to recognize that these treatments of text are impossible to read on an electronic device. I am angry that Sony sold the book to me with this problem. Has anybody else found books made this way? Did you get a credit for the purchase price of the book? Thanks!

Hello,
Welcome to the User Discussion Forums.
We suggest testing the title itself. go to the unreadable page from within the reader application on your computer, does it appear normal? can you read it properly on the computer but not your tablet? is it also unreadable from your computer?
If the book is unreadable on your tablet but fine on the computer. remove the title and re transfer it back to the PRS-T1.
If the book is unreadable on your computer as well, remote the title from your computer and the tablet and re download the title from the store.
here is the instructions on how to download a previously purchased title.

You don't. You get them from the Amazon server to your kindle app on the iPad.

  • Unreadable Book Titles in iOS 8 Books App

There seems to have been an "enhancement" to Books in iOS 8 that renders the book titles nearly ureadable in My Books view.
Unfortunately, there is a new background effect that uses a grayed out version of the home screen. In addition, the book titles and authors are now displayed in gray. Also, the font size is amazingly miniscule.
Does anyone know of a way to set the font color in the My Books view? A solid white or black would be very good.
Is there a way of increasing the font size? Anything larger than the default would be great.
If there is a way to set the background for My Books view I would love to know about it.
I've tried just about all the options for backgrounds, including a solid black or white, but the "enhancement" that grays out the background just creates more gray.
Gray on gray typography. Not good. Almost unreadable.
    Here's an example:
    OUCH!

Indeed! I turned that off a while back because I don't like white type on black - BUT...
I've discovered that the display becomes like yours if I turn on a light here in this cave! Yay.
SO, as it turns out, the night settings do not apply to My Books view. One can not turn off night settings.
It looks like this is an area that has not been completed for it appears to need further refinement.
Anyway, problem half solved because I figured out what was going on. I just need to wait for the next update to iOS I suppose.

  • Access to e-reader books

A couple of years ago I bought a Sony e-reader which uses Adobe digital editions.  Recently my desktop computer died and I bought a laptop.  I then set up a new email account and a new adobe account, not realizing the consequences.  Now I can only read content on my e-reader that has been authorized with my new adobe account.  When I try to open any older purchases I get an error message “Protected by Digital Rights Management”
How can I transfer all or some of the previous purchases to my new adobe account?  I still have a lot of unread books!
    Cheers

  • EPub Books? On my Windows 7?

I am a Windows 7 user, and I have iTunes on my computer.
Not too long ago, I bought books off of iTunes in the hopes of being able to read them, but for whatever reason, I can't seem to be able to view the contents of the books.
I installed things like Adobe Digital Editions, tried Chrome software that dealt with reading ePub books, and done eveythign else, yet whenever I load up the books, they either always give me completely blank pages, pages with glitched-up text or code, or some other error (in some cases, however, it does display the table of contents clearly).
Please help. I feel like I wasted my money buying unreadable books.

Sorry, but books sold in the iTunes Store carry copy protection and cannot be read on anything other than an iOS device, as it says right on the purchase page in the iTunes Store:
You cannot read them on your Windows system.
    Regards.

  • How to mark a book as new in iBooks?

I know whenever you sync a new item to iBooks is mark with a "new" ribbon, which disappears once you turn the first page. Sometimes i've had open a book just to overlook a few pages, but i want to restore the "new" ribbon so i can identify unread books. When you have a large library in iBooks is complicated to remember which books are new/unread and which are already read. Does anyone knows how to mark books as new/unread?

You can't. You could consider creating a collection specifically for  newly downloaded books.

  • Transfer collections to new computer

Our Reader software is installed on a notebook computer and has a number of collections set up for our books.  We're setting up a new notebook with the Reader software and though we've been able to download all our books from the Sony bookstore into the new computer, it doesn't have the collections that we've set up.
Is there a way to transfer the collections from the old computer to the new one?  Or from the Reader device to the new computer?  We have a lot of them and it would be a lot of work to have to reconstruct them from scratch on the new machine.  When I connect the Reader to the computer, I can see the collections in it, but you can't drag them to My Library.  I'm afraid to do a Sync, because there are no collections on the new computer and it might wipe out the ones on the Reader.
Please let me know if there is a way to bring these collections into the new computer.  Thanks!

    Hi
I think that’s not possible “copy” collections from one PC to another.
You can read here on Sony’s Support (it’s for PRS-T2 and ReaderforPC, but I think it’s the same for all other reader devices): https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/35778/c/65,66/p/73878,73889,73893/
“NOTE: A collection and its items must be stored in the same location. For example, if the book/periodical is stored on the Reader’s internal memory, you may not add items stored on a microSD card to the collection.”
“IMPORTANT: While it is possible to create a collection using the Reader™ for PC or Mac software, collections created in the software will appear on your Reader, but you will not be able to manage (add, delete...etc) the collection using the Reader. Additionally, when you sync your Reader, any collections created from the Reader cannot be managed using the Reader for PC or Mac software. You may find it easier to create and manage collections exclusively using your Reader. Collections created using Reader for PC or Reader for Mac software will be denoted with an icon and you will not be able to manage them from your Reader device. Here is an example of collections created using the software and directly from the Reader. As you can see, only the ones that do not have the icon can be edited. The only exception is Unread Books, Unread Periodicals and Purchased Books. These are managed automatically by your Reader and cannot be edited.”
Why for me, is not possible to copy collections from a PC to another PC.
All items on synchronization menu on ReaderforPC are “related” (linked/associated) with file, folder position on the same PC. For example:
On a PC A there is ReaderforPC software and an ebook named “My ebook” (on folder c:\documents\Myebook.epub) in a Collection.
For ReaderforPC “My ebook” is ONLY the ebook:
    --on PC A,
    --file Myebook.epub
    --folder c:\documents\Myebook.epub.
If you change one of this (by moving or renaming file, changing device from PC to reader or from PC A to PC B) “My ebook” for ReaderforPC NOT exists anymore!
Attention! For ReaderforPC the same ebook file on PC, on reader device, on SD,… are different file (and ebooks)!
You can copy database file from one PC to another (the file is a hidden file on folder: C:\Users\<CurrentUser>\AppData\Local\Sony Corporation\ReaderDesktop\ReaderDesktopLibrary.db and contains all collections, notes, ebooks, last reading page, etc…)
Copy all ebooks file in the same position on PC B.
But for ReaderforPC PC B makes the difference. Ebooks are not the same!
Now, this is my opinion and I would be glad if somebody finds a solution in order to “Export” Collections. I think that’s possible, only with different software like Calibre, but Calibre can’t “handle” ebooks with DRM.

  • How do I get a "read" audiobook off my ipod without loosing access to it?

Even with skimming the manuals and searching the discussions, I haven't been able to find out how to take an audiobook off my ipod after it has been read - and replace it with another one that hasn't been read. (I can take them all off - or leave them all on.)
One of the threads I discovered, suggested that I go to the sync devices dropdown and select the book, and hit delete. (It won't "select"); I can however delete it from my library - but don't want to do so as I will probably want to "read" it again later.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,
    Mike
P.S. Please explain any responses in a way that a novice can grasp. (They don't cover ipod's in the AARP magazine lol)

I'm new to this, and didn't realize audio.com was a alturnative. I will look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.
As for the sync only what's checked box . . . that's how I get the all-or-nothing sync. I want to have the "unread" books on my ipod so I can listen to them. I just don't want the "read" books sucking up space.
I think that I will try copying the book file from my "my music" folder into some other place, then deleting the "read" book from my library. I can always inport the folder if I want to "re-read" the book later. Does that make sense?

  • HT1040 I have previously submitted a book for printing three different times and Apple has told me it's been unreadable. I have previously previewed it before sending and it was perfect. I have followed all other directions. Help.

I have previously submitted a book for printing three different times and Apple has told me each time it's unreadable. I have previously previewed it each time before sending and it was perfect. I have followed all other directions - updated software, all other applications off etc. What am I doing wrong?

Boot into Safemode and Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

when I submitted my iPhoto book to Apple, an error caused the  image file to be unreadable or unprintable, why can anyone help me please:)
what I did with my system was following:
    1. Update your software.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Make sure all applications are closed.
    4. Open iPhoto or Aperture.
    5. While all other applications are closed, preview your print product as a
    PDF.
    6. Resubmit your order.
and still my PDF ibook file looked like my photos were scratched across the photos. Please help:)
    Thank you
    CJ

    Yes me too!!
I thought that I had done someting wrong.  The first time it was my first attempt so I did not preview the photobok (did not know this trick).  When I did the cover photos were completely ruined with lines and code.
The second time I changed everything and even made a different sized book - thinking my photo files were too big.  I dutifully previewed before buying the book and everything was fine.  Then a few days later got the usual e-mail message from Apple. When I previewed the project again ALL of the photos were corrupted.
What to do - I need to get the photobook to friends to celebrate their engagement!
If I saved the pdf then submitted this would that work??
Any thoughts - I am working on a large project and do not want to go any further if all the work will be ruined on buying the book.

  • HT1386 Previously, I could see the books/music that was on my IPHONE 4 after plugging in and opening ITUNES, now all i can get is a possible action to sync/remove stored items.  I just want to delete books I've finished and leave those unread.. I'm so fru

Previously, after connecting my IPHONE 4 to the computer and loading/syncing, I could edit my downloads.  Now, I can't seem to find a list of what is actually on my phone.  Who says new is always better -- not in this case.  HELP!

Sounds like you're trying sync different iTunes libraries on different computers.  You can only sync with one at any particular time.  If you sync with one and try to do so on another the second will want to delete everything form the first.  Can't think of any other reason why what you are doing should be a problem.
