Unreadable Files .......cannot import from same camera....

I recently tried importing some pics from my camera.....most imported no problem.
But I had some not able to import.....it says the files are in an unrecognizable format.
I have not changed the save Format of the files....RAW.NEF
any knowledge of why this could occur?
Could erasing other files have anything to do with this?
Could GeoTagging them?

What version of iPhoto?

  • Unreadable Files: cannot import files error message

I am trying to import old photos from a previous hard drive and get the following message-
    Unreadable Files: (# of files)
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).
Then it will have the files and their locations that I am trying to open in the box below. These files can be opened with no problems using Adobe Photoshop Elements 3, Canon's Image Browser as well as Preview. They originally came in as digital photos from a Canon digital camera. They used to be able to open in iPhoto with no problem. They either have a [.JPG] extension or none at all. There are a lot of them. Could it be they were used by an older version of iPhoto and are unrecognizable in this one?
I am running iPhoto 4.0.3 Any suggestions?

    David:
You just reminded me of one more thing you can try. Log in to another account on your iMac and see if iPhoto will import as it should. If it does then it's a problem with your primary account. One cause might be another preference file that's in conflict with iPhoto. You can use Preferential Treatment to check for any corrupt or damaged user or system preference file. It's not foolproof however. If none are found and it sill won't import, then you can try the following method developed my another user:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Prefs folder (in its entirety) to the desktop. Start iPhoto. Determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up. Except for those items that are obviously not related, move the contents to the old Prefs folder on the desktop, replacing what had been there. When in doubt, move the item. The worst thing that can happen is a harmless "alert" message. Then, trash what remains of the new folder. Finally, move the old (but modified) Prefs folder back to the library.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the old one back to its original location.
If stlll no go, I'd try reinstalling the 10.2.9 COMBO updater followed by a permissions repair.

  • Cannot import from the camera if there's no tape in it

    Hello!
The title may seem silly, but in some cases I don't want to import from a recorded tape, but live from the camera.
    I'm using a Sony Digital8 camcorder.
Once a week I need to record meetings and I don't want to use a tape, but instead, import directly to the hard disk to save the extra step of rewinding tapes and importing them, which takes lots of time and has an interruption when it's needed to change the tape.
If there's a tape inside and the camera recording is on pause, iMovie will import the live video perfectly until the camer shuts off 3 minutes later due to inactivity.
If there's no tape inside to prevent shutting off and wearing of the camera mechanism, iMovie won't allow to import, showing a blue screen with sometinhg like "No tape in camera" message.
The only solution I've found to this is to put the camera recording and, at the same time, iMovie importing.
It works this way, but it is useless to record to tape and to interrupt the importing to change a tape.
    Any solution for this?
Any way to get iMovie to import without a tape inside the camcorder?
Thank you very much for your help!

    Hi
Karsten's right as ever but to get a taperecording is a good backup if You might
need the material in the futur.
Now I would suggest something that may well start an avalanche of disagree.
    1. Use a 90 min tape - not controversal - but
    2. You might try to set Your Camera into LP-mode = 90 min on a 60 min tape
and even more with a 90 min tape.
Last idea is nothing I've tested - so it might give all various sync problems.
    3. Buy an iSight Camera.
First idea I used during a play and simultaneously feed the S-video out to an
editing board with very good quality. (The tapes were a great access though
I could make my own editing in after hand)

  • I cannot import from my camera.  It tells me I need to set up a storage location under preferences but I do not see that option in preferences.

I just started and I trying to import videos from my camera but it says I need to set up a storage location under preferences.  When I go to FCPX preferences there is no storage option.  What do I do?

When I try to import an iMovie Project on my desktop, Final Cut Pro X crashes.
    Jermey CS,
Did you actually move iMovie Project to desktop? While you are in Final Cut Pro X, and if you try to import iMovie Project, it kinda of knows where to find original files made by iMovie.
Only a big if you leave the original iMovie Project and iMovie Events as it is inside Movie Folder on your computer. IF that is the case, then Final Cut Pro X knows where to find iMovie files when you wish to import iMovie Project.
I am not sure why you move around and move files all over the place. I am afraid that you are asking for more trouble or problems unless if you understand what to expect and what's not.
    Hope that helps. Good luck.

  • IPhoto: Pictures will not open/cannot import from Digital Camera

    hey guys!
I'm just recently having problems with iPhoto. I can open pictures on my iMac when clicking on them through folders itself, but when I go into iPhoto and try to double-click on the thumbnail images which show up to make them full size, they do not open..the wheel just spins to show its loading but the pictures do not load.
Also, when i click IMPORT to import pictures from my digital camera, the wheel also just spins and it does nothing again, and says it couldnt import the pictures as they are an unrecognized file, which is weird as this had all worked before.
    thanks!

  • How do I get rid of "unreadable files" when I am importing from my camera?

How do I get rid of "unreadable files" when I am importing from my camera?

Are all images unreadable? What is the exact error message you are getting?
If only a few images are unreadable, try to import not all photos at once, but in smaller batches, until you know, which photo it is that cannot be read. Import all photos that can be read and reformat your card in the camera to remove the unreadable files.
But if all photos are unreadable, try, if Image Capture can read your card.
Is it a new camera? Have you been able to import from that camera before?

  • When importing from my camera or file in Lightroom 5 my pictures are over-exposed by 1-2 stops, while they are well exposed on the camera-screen. How to get the 'right-exposed pictures on the screen?

When importing from my camera or file in Lightroom 5 my pictures are over-exposed by 1-2 stops, while they are well exposed on the camera-screen. How to get the 'right-exposed pictures on the screen?

There is an option in your Lightroom preferences on the General tab, "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate images". If you have that option checked then Lightroom will import and display both your raw and JPEG files. Are you using active D-lighting on your camera? If you are then you need to turn off that feature.

  • Import from a camera that contains mts files

what is the required file structure for FCE to import from a camera that contains mts files

The file structure is provided/created automatically by the camera....
So if you still have the original structure, then you should be fine, but you may need to install software for log and transfer from the camera manufacturer...
If you just have the individual mts file, you are SOL as far as log and transfer goes. In that case you need to purchase ClipWrap2 to convert to Pro Res....
Not sure how this all works with FC Express though...

  • Cannot import from cameras

Hi. LR 4.4. Mac OS X 10.9.5. Sudden problem: LR does not find files to import from cameras. I read some similar problems here so: Changed cable. Changed cameras. LR FINDs the cameras and identifies them correctly. But when I hit import, in bottom left corner it says "finding files", circle rotating indefinitely and nothing shows up. I deleted LR preference file. Started new catalog. Strangely, if interestingly, it did then ONCE find 5 of 100 pix on my Nikon D7000, but not the other 95 photos, and still nothing on the Canon Powershot G7X.  It can import from the hard drive. Frustrating! Thanks for any suggestions. ---DG

yes, SS, that's what I'm doing and of course I can't FIND the card reader! Good idea though...

  • Aperture 3.1.2 leaves ..importing.* files after import from camera

    Hi all,
I keep all my files in a folder named Referenced Images. That folder has started accumulating a large number of files of the form
    ..importing.IMG_8540.JPG_
One such file for every image I have imported from my camera into Aperture. I assume I can delete them since the file is in the folder, but why are they there in the first place?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Hi, have you tried updating to 3.1.3 to see if this still occurs?

  • I'm having trouble with video imported from my camera memory card.

I'm having trouble with video imported from my camera memory card. The video breaks up and pixelizes when it's directly imported from the memory card. That makes the video useless. Why does this happen? It doesn't do that in any other video editing software. Thanks for the help.

    More info please:
    Type of camera?
Was the card formatted in the camera doing the shooting?
Type of files the camera is set to record?

  • Cannot import from Olympus E-P1 in LR-3

Hi. I have an Olympus E-P1 and a Nikon D90. Both imported picture files (JPG) without issues in LR-2 (both v2.6 and 2.7). Just upgraded to LR-3 and the Nikon exports fine but the photos on the Olympus are not recognized by the new import dialog box. I have (and had) the Olympus set to MTP mode and can work around this awkwardly by resetting to "mass storage" mode but that seems clumsy.
My question is, of course, what changed? Am I missing something obvious? LR 2.7 was still left on the computer and I retested it with the Olympus... worked perfectly. Using the Mac version of LR-3 at 64 bits. Any suggestions would be much appreciated... Thanks! Andy

Thanks both. Getting photos on my computer isn't really my main concern. My iMac has an SD slot but I have always imported from the cameras w/o incident and it is (much) faster and I'm not wearing out card slots. My issue is just that any camera I have had always worked with LR2 and LR1 before that. I upgrade to LR3 and there is an unexpected change. I wanted to know why. As it turns out, LR3 will import from the Olympus in Mass Storage mode as mentioned without much difficulty (although the device now has no name) so I can live with it but why for only one of the two cameras? I should be grateful since the Nikon doesn't give me a choice with respect to exporting mode and that's the camera that works as before. One more detail. When I'm in the desired MTP mode, LR3 DOES recognize the Olympus by name (my first post was misleading), just not the photos. Anyhow, thanks again for replying!

  • I can't add a title to a movie imported from my camera! how come?

This is really frustrating because I have one clip (an entirely different one than the one I want to add a title to) that is "accepting" a title. but the one I imported from my camera (a testimonial from a client) just wont work. nothing happens when I drag and try to drop a title. with the other one, it turns blue and it's clear I can drop a title. I was able to edit my video and remove some clips.
this has happened before. i need to understand why it happens so 1. i can avoid it in the future and 2. stop wasting so much time messing around with this critcal but SMALL piece.
    please help!
    Fareen

    ill try to help...
forgive me i'm no tech. much like pictures cant be edited retitled etc, once uploaded from camera roll. (they can be in camera roll) I think you can do it on the computer after the fact.
as for where to find the video that depends on the computer. I dont know on a mac but windows based you find the file in your library right click and select rename.
    hope that helps

  • Epson all in one printer - compatible with 10.9.5? Cannot import from scanner in Preview

Got a new Epson printer. Set up is fine; wirelessly connected.  Downloaded and updated all drivers. Still cannot import from scanner into Preview. Anyone else? Seems like this was a problem in 2013 as far as I can see from other forum discussions. Any advice?  Scanner works manually so it's the set up, compatibility or...?

What do you mean "import from scanner to Preview?"
Does the scanner actually scan, if so what file format (jpg, pdf, tiff, etc...) are you scanning in? Once you have successfully scanned simply open Preview and open the file. Another method is selecting the scanned file, right click and select Open With and select Preview.

  • Importing from DVD CAM

Hi, I just installed Adobe Premiere Pro but I don't know how to import my videos from my DVD CAM. Could anyone tell me how to import from DVD CAM?
    Thank you

Was just given 2 DVD cam discs containing footage that was shot at a concert I am editing. On reviewing the discs, I noticed that each song is assigned to a separate chapter on the DVD.   I'd really like to use this footage as it provides additional camera angles I didn't cover.  I am going to use my old Ulead Video Studio 8 program to convert the DVD files to mpg's for editing in Pr. (I will also check out the software Jeff mentioned).  I'm trying to convert each chapter on the DVD to an mpeg2 file so the files size is manageable.
The footage I shot is mini DV, and I plan on mixing the two sources.    What do I need to look out for as far as the "conversions/extra steps" you mentioned?
    Thanks.
