Unreadable Quicken file on burned CD after 10.4.4 update

Last night Software Update alerted me to the 10.4.4 update. I dutifully downloaded and installed it.
This morning I reconciled my accounts in Quicken 2005 and went to burn a back up CD as I do every month. After burning the disc I just wanted to make sure it was all there so I tried to open the Quicken data file on the CD. After a few seconds of spinning beach ball the message came up: "Unable to read file". A second CD was burned with the same results. Other types of files (.cwk, .pdf, etc.) that I also burned to the discs open without a hitch.
Looking for answers I started with the Help Viewer. Typing "burn disc" into the search window produces nothing but the spinning windmill. No results. In fact, clicking on any of the topics on the Help Viewer home page, produces nothing: no index, no topics, nothing.
Any ideas? If not, can I un-install the 10.4.4 update? How? TIA.

    Hello,
I tried to download updates on my IPhone 4 and a message box appeared saying--after it downloaded the updates on my computer--that my firmware file is not compatible. Does anyone know what this means?
    Thank you

Only the individual that set the restrictions passcode knows what it is.
If you do not know it or have forgotten it, put the device in DFU mode (google it) and restore as new.

  • External Drive not supported, cant burn CDs, after 10.5.8 update

After having spent just about a month sorting out one massive irritation I now get another one.
My internal drive is not working, (disc stuck inside and I gave up on it almost a year ago. Please don't give any advice on how to get it out, it's a goner OK - not worth the fuss nor the $).
So I bought an external La Cie burner which has worked fine on 10.5.7 for well, almost a year. Since I updated yesterday to 10.5.8 i get a Finder burn message saying the drive is not supported.
What do I do then? I know this must be really easy (I hope). Thanks in advance

Thanks but there is no latest update. The Firmware is vLA00, current.
So what is going on? Why do they do 'up'dates when it's just a downdate fps....
OK rant over. What do I do now? How can I get back to 10.5.7? Should I even'
    Help! Thanx in advance.
Oh, by the way. In System Profiler's > disc burning > burn support column it says it does have support
(Generic Drive Support). So why does it say it doesn't support the drive when i try to use it?

Given that the file is selected then the next possibility is that you're exporting two files with the same name. When you do this the export breaks down as the second file would overwrite the first. Check the filenames.

So it sounds like you are trying to burn a DVD with photos on it so the photos can be either transferred to or displayed on a Windows PC, is that correct?
For the purposes of this I am going to assume you are using iPhoto '11.
Gather the photos you want to burn to DVD in one album in iPhoto. This is not absolutely necessary but it sure makes things easier for me.
Select that album, then go to the File menu and select Export...
In the dialog that shows up, select the File Export tab. Select the setting you want to use for export. Click the Export button.
Another dialog will show up. Set the location to Desktop and click the New Folder button. Name the folder something nice and descriptive and click the Create button.
Click the OK button. Quit iPhoto as the rest of this work will be done in the Finder.
You will now have a folder on your desktop with that nice descriptive name. Find it and select it. Go to the File menu and from it select Burn "Descriptive folder name" to Disc...
Insert a blank DVD when prompted.
Let the finder complete the work and eject the disc afterwards.
    That's it. Best of luck.

  • Anyway to recover quicken files?

Unfortunately, it wasn't until AFTER i upgraded to Lion that I saw all the on line discussion about Quicken not functioning in Lion.  Now I'm desperately trying to find any fix for retrieving quicken files so that I can import them into a replacement.  Totally caught off guard on this one.  Should have not been anxious.  Any help would be appreciated.

Assuming you /backed-up/retained/transfered previous your documents and settings when you installed Lion, look in your Documents Folder for a folder named "Quicken Backup Folder". It should contain the most recently saved file, its backup and previous backups. Copy them to a thumb drive or burn a copy on a CD. You will have to access them on a computer with a PPC CPU or via Rosetta. Note that the files as they stand are not able to be directly imported into Quicken Essentials for Mac. There is an intermediate conversion process outlined on the Quicken website. Once you are able to open the Quicken file in Snow Leopard, or earlier, export the data as a .QIF. That can be imported directly into iBank 4 without any any loss of detail. Trying to import them into Quicken for Windows is no easy task. After five hours on my wife's Lenovo, I erased the import and bought Quicken Essentials for Mac at half price. We did not need to download bank account or investment information, or pay bill via Quicken. Good Luck!

  • After 7.1.1 update jpg's unreadable and podcast app dies

That about says it. the update screwed the phone and the ipad (at least the jpg issue, don't use it for podcasts).
    Though more details..... iphone 4s
jpgs unreadable/unimportable by lightroom, though aperture will import them. both recognize the files, but lightroom says they are in unreadable format. There seem to be earlier threads, years back in different situations, that point to issues with xml sidecars. but if this is the issue then the sidecar would have to be on the iphone.... really no idea. Started Saturday may 17th I have files from the day before that were imported fine. I tried importing files made before and after this date and the same result.
podcasts stopped working.... or exactly, the app crashes after about 20 seconds. problem started the same time. There is nothing that can be done about this. Don't have to listen to anything, app just crashes. you can listen to about 20 seconds of a podcast though if you get to it before app crashes. At first it was telling me to update my computer itunes version. There was no update available, but those messages went away after a computer restart and resync with phone.
Question is whether to get an HTC phone at this point, or if Big Brother Apple will fix in the 2 days before my contract is up. I'm sick of this. I now have a cross platform podcast app. only thing keeping me is maybe the address book sync. Hmmm......

No. Because import jpg issue is off both iphone and ipad.
Tried. restart. reset settings. I hate doing the complete reboot but maybe that's next on phone
I also saw that there was an adobe camera raw update recently, but I think that went in after the problem manifested. I was looking around for solutions to the itunes alert the phone was throwing up.

  • Missing Quicken Files

I replaced my hard drive and when I restored from my Time Machine, my Quicken Files were missing.  I was using them in Parallels.  I searched the entire time machine for all Quicken Files and it only shows the original files I uploaded when I purchased the computer.  Am I missing where to look?

The quicken files from parallels will be inside a large folder that may not have been included in the TM updates.. sad to say.
Do you still have the hard drive that was replaced? You might be able to recover from there.
Otherwise look for the single large parition file that parallels produces. PVM
    http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=261347
Just google around for info.. but you will not be able to see the files inside the PVM from TM.. it is a windows partition that is unreadable to TM.. you need to restore the whole partition and use windows to access the file.

  • Unreadable jpg file from desktop

Hello. I have a standard workflow for processing raw
(NEF) files using iPhoto (8.1.2) -> photoshop CS (6.0) ->
desktop -> iphoto. I edit the NEF files in photoshop,
then save out a tif and a jpg file to the desktop after
converting to 8-bit format. The color profile is sRGB.
Then I import both files back into iphoto from the desktop.
This works about 80% of the time. The rest of the time
iphoto gags on the import of the jpg with an Unreadable File
error message. I can open the files with Preview. I
can import the tif files file. But, iphoto gets confused
with some percentage of the jpg files.
I've tried reopening the .tif in photoshop and resaving
the jpg. This doesn't work. I tried using Bridge to convert
the .jpg to a .gif, but this shifts the color.
    Any ideas? Thank you.

I'm having a similar problem & these solutions don't seem to help. I scanned images w/ cannon scanner & am now trying to import the jpgs into iphoto. keep getting the same message - "unreadable file. the following file could not be imported. it is in an unrecognizable format" - the weird thing is that other images i've scanned with teh same scanner i'm able to import. changed permissions to "read & write" for everyone. even did the open in preview & re-save suggestion. neither seems to work. not sure what to do???

  • Every pdf file in my laptop has been converted into an unreadable Word file. Help!

Every pdf file in my laptop has been converted into an unreadable Word file.
This happened while I was trying to convert a large pdf file to Word using Adobe export pdf, which I purchased recently. When I try to export a large pdf file, I get a message "An error occurred while trying to access the service."
The inability to convert a file from pdf to Word is an annoyance after I spent $19.95 for export pdf. But the making of all my pdf files unreadable is a disaster.

I suspect that isn't connected. Start Adobe Reader, use File > Open for these PDFs. Do they open?  (I suspect it's just double clicking that does it, which isn't the only way or best way to open files).

If export record count more than 200 it is working fine in all the systems and if change the profile option "Export MIME type” value to ‘text/tab-separated-values’ from application/excel also it is wokring.

  • Access DB (& .ldb file) does not close after crystal reports

    Post Author: mgold

Access DB (& .ldb file) does not close after crystal reports
Hi! We have a VB application using Crystal Reports 6 that has worked successfully on hundreds of systems for over 10 years. Now, on one network, the application and access database does not close. It seems to hang on the [.Close] command.
When we open the application an peruse the screens without opening up a report (using crystal reports), the application and access db closes fine. But as soon as we run a report and then close the report and try to close the application, the access db does not close. Many of the screens open the db and grab data from the access db, but it's only after running crystal reports that we have this problem. (Please see more information below.)
Setup: Application and data (access 97 db) reside on a server in the same folder, but application shortcut is kicked off on client PC. Kicking off the shortcut on the client PC means that the image/process runs on the client PC (not on the server). In this problem case, the application shortcut is on a Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP2 PC with the app & data on a Windows 2003 server. Users are local Admins on their PCs with "Full Control"over the directory and files on the server where the data (access 97 db) resides. This type of setup is typical and has worked without any problems for clients.
The application is written in Visual Basic, using Crystal Reports 6 (using DAO). We close the recordset, set it to zero and then it hangs on closing the db (.Close command).
A few key pieces of information:
    - The application closes fine if the app & data (access 97 db) are on a local PC. This includes closing fine if the application is run directly on the Windows 2003 server where the data is stored.
    - It worked on this client's network until sometime in the last few weeks.
    - One thing that changed is that the company is using VMWare on its servers. Not sure if they started using VMWare at the same time as it started failing. This may be unrelated. Possibly other things changed, but can't get any more information ... yet.
    - It works fine running the application from a Windows Vista PC with a user who is a domain admin.
    - The access db and application hang for about 10-20 minutes and then eventually closes. It appears that somehow
Crystal Reports is keeping the db open, but I'm not sure why.The application doesn't quit and the database doesn't close even if I try to end the task with the Task Manager.
    - The Crystl32.ocx version being used is 8.0.0.4 (if that matters).
    - I copied 6 month old program files and database files to a test folder on the Windows 2003 server. It fails using these files that worked fine 6 months ago.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated! If you know of another good place to post this, please let me know.
    Thanks!
    - Mark

Crystal doesn't support tables in HTML interpretation.
You can probably work your way around this by doing Replace() calls on the relevant tags.
