Unreadable Words

I just downloaded the trial version of Microsoft Office 2008. During the process I had some Pages files open.
Now that Office is installed, all of my Pages files are in a different language or code when I open them- Not just the files that I left open during the installation.
I can copy and paste the 'coded' words into Word or Safari and they are back to the original content.
How do I make my words readable in Pages again when I open the files and input new words?

You can try to disable OMTC and leave hardware acceleration in Firefox enabled.

You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

If they automatically open in Word, then you need to change the file association.

Every pdf file in my laptop has been converted into an unreadable Word file.
This happened while I was trying to convert a large pdf file to Word using Adobe export pdf, which I purchased recently. When I try to export a large pdf file, I get a message "An error occurred while trying to access the service."
The inability to convert a file from pdf to Word is an annoyance after I spent $19.95 for export pdf. But the making of all my pdf files unreadable is a disaster.

I suspect that isn't connected. Start Adobe Reader, use File > Open for these PDFs. Do they open? (I suspect it's just double clicking that does it, which isn't the only way or best way to open files).

Unreadable word 2007 files after emailing via Gmail or saving to USB drive

I am having trouble with word 2007 files that I am emailing via gmail and also my uni portal email site. They lose the docx extension and become unreadable. It also seems that word 2007 files saved onto my USB drive are not readable on other computers. I have been advised to change configuration on my Macbook to Always use the file extension but I cannot find where to set this. Can anyone advise me on how to do this?

If you can't open it from Word/Neo Office's Open File command from within the application, setting the Open With file extension won't help. What may be the problem is that Word itself may be saving certain meta data that can't be transfered via the FAT32 storage of the USB drive. Your best bet is to archive it with control-mouse click if on a Mac, or using WinZip on a PC before moving it from one machine to another to avoid loss of important meta data.
If using the Word or Neo Office's File menu -> Open file command can read the file in question, your Open With that is available on the Mac's control - left mouse click (or one mouse button) key combination, has an optional checkbox to Always Open With, when you select Open With -> Other... Upon selecting that, pick your application to open the said document.

Page Size in Page Versus Other Word Processors

Question:
How can make the work area the size of the screen and make the control the size of the letters in the work area?
Background:(Useful if you don't understand the question only)
In word and in Mac ODT the while page is filled with the text but not page. I asked and read the manual. First I asked phone support about it, I called for another reason, and they said want the window to fill the computer screen no problem just pull it to the screen size unfortunately the text stays where it is not helpful. So I get the manual and its says no problem go to view and make it fit the with of the page. Now I have a giant letters and unreadable words.
In word they have a silly little thing call precent that allows the user to control both the size of the work area and the size of the image.
I have seen this question before but I have yet to see an answer. Is Mac ODT simply better then Pages. It seems better. It seems to have all the functions and more.

1. What is "Mac ODT"?
Interesting, the idea seems to be to turn plain text into rich text and then fill the imageable area with rich text in a single column.
Rich text is referred to as rich text and ODF Open Document Format is referred to, correctly, as ODT Open Document Text, but on the incorrect assumption that ODT is platform dependent.
There is no idea of frames within which one flows plain text, or linking frames across a spread, or of a light table after the metaphor for pagination introduced by Adobe, Aldus, and Apple.
There is also no idea of applying composition by automatic markup or by manual markup to paragraphs and to parts of paragraphs.
There is also no idea of a mechanical printing forme with composition and illustration wedged in place by furniture, or of a photo-mechanical printing form with composition and illustration pasted into place on the printing forme that has become a sheet of film.
To start everyday endusers off from scratch, they should have a film to watch. Steven Fry, who does a wonderful Jeeves, recently did a program for the BBC on reconstructing the machine that made us what we are, the Gutenberg press.
Something like that is what it takes to understand the difference between the single column mode and the multiple column mode of Pages.

How to embed scanned pdf's of drawings with comments into Word?

I have a unique problem which I would like some help with. I believe the solution lies within concerting a pdf to a Word format but to date I have had no success.
I have pdf's of scanned E-size drawings which I have marked up with comments (highlights, textboxes, etc...) which I would like to embed in a Word document WITH the comments. So far my Word conversions have resulted in useless unreadable Word files. Any thoughts?
If I can embed these files within Word it would preserve the resolution. If I use the snapshot tool on the E-size drawing and put it on a letter size page in the Word doc it becomed unreadable.

I am using Adobe Acrobat Standard ver 8.2.2 with Office 2007

For the graphics portion you can use the export graphics option in Acrobat. That will save each scanned page (as long as no OCR was done) as a graphic that can be imported to WORD. You can also save as a TIFF or such. For including the markup that might be more useful. In that case, each page is saved as a graphic. I would recommend TIFF and you should have an options at the bottom of the save as screen to set the resolution. Again, import these into WORD.
I am only mentioning these processes since you basically have graphics and saving to WORD you indicate does not work (though I am not sure why).

Installation problem on Ubuntu 8.04

When I tried to install SJSWS7 on Ubuntu 8.04 (Chinese Simplified), words on the installation windows are all unreadable words (except for the English characters). Please tell me what I can do!

I have several Chinese fonts installed in my Ubuntu 8.04, but you see none is right for WS7! Not every people is an expert for WS7, someone might be just learning how to use WS, so I believe we can make it easier for beginners!!! Or maybe all these have been written in the distribution document and I didn't find them! :-(((((((
By the way, where can I find a handbook on how to use Netbeans6.5? My feeling is that the Java language is difficult to learn, and the IDE is also something we should learn thoroughly if we want learn Java really well! There are a lot of things written for Java, but nowhere can I find a document about how to use the IDE! The online help is not really so helpful, and the infomation provided in the Netbeans6.5 HELP is not very complete!
The problem I encountered now is: I'm trying to write a small application for looking up phone numbers. The phone numbers are listed in a CSV file. The problem is where I should put the CSV file and how to access it! (I'm using the Netbeans IDE, and the application I'm doing on is a desktop application)
I guess the solution must be quite easy, but I just cann't find any document to tell me the way!

Problem in Portrail and Landscape

Hi,
I have created a report that contains two pages: the first page is in portrail , the other is in landscape. However, after printing through report runtime, the handout contains some unreadable words(code) in left hand corner of the 2nd page, everything is alright in the 1st page...
I have found that if the report only has one format, ie. all pages are printed in portrail OR landscape (not both in ONE report), there is no problem!
Do you know why?

Brian, thanks, but it's not a rotation lock issue - at least not relating to the rotation lock setting. It's just a general use setting. Right now i have my iPhone propped in landscape mode. If I now hit the home button, essentially returning to a portrait setting though my phone is still positioned in landscape, then open any other app that supports landscape, that app WILL NOT orient itself to landscape mode. It will stay in portrait mode. The phone has to be physically oriented to portrait, then back to landscape for the app to register landscape mode properly. This is a glitch, and not a rotation lock issue. it ought to be noted that this was not an issue in iOS 7 or any previous iteration.

LOADED ACROBAT READER X and my old ACROBAT 7 PROFESSIONAL BECAME DEFAULT+MY PRINTING WITH 7 IS BLURR

I have downloaded ACROBAT READER X. I previously had IX which worked well and prior to that ACROBAT 7 PROFESSIONAL which I have kept and upgraded. Prior to downloading READER X READER 9 had been my default reader.
Upon loading Reader X, 7 PROFESSIONAL became my default reader. It seemed to work OK but for printing. Printing with 7 resulted in blurred unreadable words and black patches. When using READER X for printing printing is fine and clear.
Any words of encoragement?

Not counting Reader X, Adobe didn't recommend having Reader and Acrobat on the same system. It would cause problems. Moreover when you uninstalled one, it would break the other. When you installed Reader X, it uninstalled your old version of Reader and broke Acrobat 7. If you want Reader and Acrobat upgrade both to X. If you want to keep your old version of Acrobat, uninstall Reader X and re-install Acrobat 7.

Arabic language and patch 12

I got a lot of unreadable words in Forms and Reports6i
after installing Patch 12, although some words are readable!
I check "NLS_LANG" settings i found it as it was
(Arabic_Saudi Arabia.AR8MSWIN1256)
By the way, The Previous Patch was Patch 7 in my case, I don't think I have to install all Patches between 7 and 12, am i wright?

Answer to number 1: Just not a supported option at this time. Wait for some SDK Apps to come out maybe someone will create something that can do translation or something along those lines. No one really knows till developers start releasing Apps and seeing what can be done.
Answer to number 2: Currently there is no 3G Support and currently unknown when and if there will be 3G Support. It mean technically it means making another iPhone. And 3G is not as available in mass networks like EDGE is right now.
Answer to number 3: Currently iPhone is only available on the select networks we have deals with and no other providers at this time. If you by chance got one of the Unlocked iPhones then perhaps it may work with another provider. But our fellow friends in Germany, France, and U.K. could probably answer that better then I could.

HT1338 why is it that when emailing a word document or a pdf file the recipient receives an unreadable file from me?

Question: why is it that when I email either a word document or a pdf file the receipient of my email get these files in an unreadable format i.e. not in word file nor in pdf file formats, and consequently they are unable to open these files and read them? Thank you!

The words on all websitesare broken up and unreadable. if I scan & "copy", it straightens them out.

Words sometimes overlap other things on the web page and are unreadable.

On sites like Huffington Post and NY times as well as Aetna my health carrier some words and graphics overlap each other so they are unreadable.

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting 'none' as a high value can cause issues like you described.

Pages 5.5.2/OSX 10.10.2: "Look Up" a word function in Dictionary, text is light gray/unreadable.

I've been trying to fix this for a few days now and hope someone can help. I'm not sure when this started but when I "look up" a word by highlighting it and right clicking on it, all of the text information shown (i.e definition) is light gray on a gray background. Usually the text black and you can easily read it but mine is light gray. If I highlight the words in the text I can see it but thought the OS, Pages, Safari, etc, I experience the same thing only with the dictionary. I attached 3 images. Wikipedia works but Dictionary doesn't. Software is up-to-date and I restarted my computer/apps.

You say you are using OS X 10.10.2, and Pages v5.5.2. OS X 10.10.2 is not officially released yet. The Apple Support Community, and Apple's guidelines for beta non-disclosure do not permit us to talk about beta products here.
Now, of course, if you meant OS X 10.10.1 instead, I can tell you that my Pages v5.5.2 does not have the problem you have posted, and in fact, the yellow highlight boxes on my OS X release — feature rounded corners, and no drop shadow — which is contrary to what you have shown.
This leads me to question whether Pages v5.5.2 is not compatible with an OS X 10.10.2 beta release, or you have installed customization software on your Mac that is interfering with standard OS X, and Pages v5.5.2 visual design cues.
