Unreal number of junk/spam emails

unreal number of junk/spam emails. What do I do? I am constantly creating rules. In 36 hrs I have had 94....

That has to be filtered or controlled on the server in your webmail account. You have to filter there. The iPad has no junk mail filters. Log into your email account in a browser and set a filter or do whatever your email provider allows for to stop or filter junk mail.

  • Junk Spam emails why TB reads them at all?

I have used Pop Peeper for years and recently I decided to use TB. However, after spending many many hours reading stuff and working with TB, now it seems to me that for some unclear reason, TB cannot just ignore the "spam" (or junk) folder in yahoo mail, whereas Pop Peeper easily does this.
How come Pop Peeper can easily ignore the "spam" folder in yahoo mail, and TB cannot do that? Did I miss a setting/configuration somewhere?
When TB reads the spam folder in yahoo mail, it then shows the spam emails in the unified inbox, and it becomes a big head ache specially if one has many yahoo accounts.
So, the main question is this: why TB has to read the spam folder of yahoo mail to begin with?
And secondly, is there a way/work around for this issue?

If your account to yahoo is pop, Thunderbird can only access the inbox as that is the only folder that exists in the pop universe. So if yahoo place the contents of their bulk mail folder into the pop inbox it is something you will need to take up with yahoo.
If it is an imap account then simply right click the account in the folder pane and select subscribe and unsubscribe from the bulk mail folder.

  • I am received spam email in my inbox not Junk-mail

    Hello ,
     i have exchange 2010 and outlook 2010
i am facing problem ,all users received spam email in inbox not Junk mail
what to do to avoid this ?
I want when the user receives a spam I want to go to junk-email not inbox.
    thanks

    Hi,
Thanks for your detailed configuration steps.
As the Anti-Spam workflow article, I suggest double check whether the “spamhuas” in the IP Allow List.
    1. Connection Filtering
IP Allow List -> IP Block List -> Safe Provider List -> IP Block Provider’s RBL
      1) If sender IP in IP Alllow List, the message flow to Sender filtering directly. If not, it flows to IP Block List.
      2) If sender IP in IP Block List, the message is rejected and applied no other filters. If not, it flows to Safe Provider List.
      3) If spamhaus in Safe Provider List, the message flow to Sender filtering directly. If not, it flows to IP Block Provider List.
      4) If in IP Block Provider’s RBL, the message is rejected and applied no other filters. If not, it flows to Sender filtering.
    2. Sender Filtering
Please add spam senders into Blocked Sender and select “Reject message” action.
    3. Content Filtering
Please configure the Custom Words, “Allow messages containing these words or phrases:” and “Block messages containing these words or phrases (messages containing words or phrases listed above will not be blocked):”.

  • How can I avoid ending up in Junk/Spam folders

    Hello,
I wish to send out emails using "mail" to some art galleries and I am concerned about ending up in peoples junk/spam folder.
Can anyone tell me what are the most likely characteristics of an email that will send them directly to someone's junk folder? I was previously sending a few pix (some jpgs dragged and dropped directly into the message field) that made each message around 500kb
I am now thinking that 500kb might put me in junk???
would it be better to send a small image (around 30 - 40kb) with each email or is image size not a determining factor here?
I also want to send single messages to multiple addresses using the Bcc: field. would sending to multiple addresses also penalize each message or is there some recommended limit (e.g to send 10 emails max at a time) so as not to be junked?
I suppose a lot depends here on the settings used by each recipient, but it would be good to have some general advice on good practice.
    Many thanks in advance
    Mark

Can anyone tell me what are the most likely characteristics of an email that will send them directly to someone's junk folder?
That's completely different for everyone, and it also depends on who their email provider is, since most spam filtering is done at their end first. Using certain words or phrases in the Subject line that are known to be associated with spam is something to avoid. In other words, use complete, grammatically correct phrases or sentences for the Subject.
Attachments may be a trigger for some spam filters, but unless you know that in advance, there's no way to plan for it. Image size would not be a factor, unless there's a limit on the size of any single email message. The larger the message, the longer it takes to download and render on the recipient's computer.
Sending multiple emails via the BCC field has no effect on whether or not a message is or isn't spam; only the receiving mail server and/or the recipient's spam filtering software can make that determination. Your email provider probably has a limit on the maximum number of recipients you can include in the CC or BCC field, so you should ask them before doing this.
If you really want to know how your recipients feel, send them each an email about your plans and ask them if they would object or treat such messages as spam.

  • Spam email bypasses server to iMail

I have been receiving spam email in junk mail folder that does not appear on Verizon server

How many emai accounts do you have? How many of them are setup in Mac Mail?
Have you looked into the Junk or Spam Folder on the Web Mail system for Verizon?
If you only have one account and it is from Verizon then they are coming from the Verizon servers and being originally delivered to your Verizon Email Address.

  • One Workaround to the Spam Email Problem

As seen in other posts including http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5069558#5069558 the problem of not being able to delete multiple emails at one time is a real problem for anyone on the road with an iPhone.
I have read many posts, talked to Apple, friends, etc. with no real success in dealing with the hundreds of spam emails that fill up my iPhone and take ages to delete ONE BY ONE! Ugh!
I have come up with what may be basic to some, convoluted to others, and honestly still a pain, but it does seem to work fairly well. I have my ISP already tagging spam with the word “Spam” in the subject line, allowing Entourage to filter out the spam into the junk mail box. So what I have done is the following:
I created a new email box. (ex. [email protected]) I then set up several filters in Entourage to execute:
    IF:
Execute > if all criteria are met”
Subject > Does not contain > Spam
Any Recipient > Is a contact
    Then:
Change Status > Not Junk Email
    Set Category > Work
    Redirect To > [email protected]
This filter can be enabled or disabled as needed. (In the office or out) The only trick is that you MUST keep Entourage open on a machine somewhere so the above filters are running, as this effectively becomes your spam filter greatly reducing the spam on your iPhone.
I am not going to say this is the best workaround or is for everyone, but after several weeks of deleting a couple hundred emails per day ONE BY ONE on the iPhone I was ready to through it, and my $600 out the window at highway speeds.
This has worked fairly well, reducing my iPhone spam by about 80%-90% and that is all I can ask for right now, and means the iPhone can actually be useful for business purposes. The only note is that you must remember to check your iPhone email if you don’t use your iPhone for awhile, as someone may reply to your new iPhone email address.
If anyone has a better solution please post it. This was the only way a Mac friend and me could figure out a way to help stop the spam. Hopefully Apple will fix the problem soon!

I found it a lot easier to get a free GMail account. No ads, works on WiFi AND Edge, I can use my own custom address as a reply to, and the SPAM filter are AWESOME. I hardly get ANY spam on my iPhone anymore.

  • Why am I suddenly getting tons of spam email since the latest update?

I have updated Thunderbird many times over the years and never lost its ability to send spam email to the junk folder. Suddenly, I have tons of it (labeled spam by Norton) still sitting in my inbox and I am having to delete it all every day! Any reason you know of that this is happening? Thanks!

My guess is the Norton tool is not compatible with the latest version of Thunderbird. After all Thunderbird sends what it considers spam to the junk folder. Your Norton product does it's own thing entirely.

  • I need my sender verification number so I can email photos.  It is not sending me one.

I need my sender verifcation number so I can email photo's.  I just bought adobe photshop elements 11 and when I click on send number, it doesn't.

Hi Marie, I’ve found it usually works best with web mail via Adobe after obtaining verification. I know some email services block bulk email completely and I’ve only tested it with Gmail which works fine. Should also work with other web mail e.g. Yahoo and Hotmail. Give it a try. Before you start it will help to check your internet security settings. If they are set to High, reduce the settings to Medium temporarily. Then follow these instructions.
    1. Log in to your mail provider on the web and add the following email to your address/contacts book.
    [email protected]
    2. Open Organizer and on the menu click:
    Edit >> Preferences >> Sharing
    3. Choose Adobe Email Service from the client dropdown menu.
    4. Add your name and email address to the fields provided and click OK
    5. Test the system (first use only)  by selecting a photo in organizer and choosing Share >> Photo Mail then click Next (Mac users should use attachments)
    6. Choose a contact then click  Next
    7. Click Next Step, then click Next - the sender verification dialog will open.
    8. Check you have spelt your email address correctly and hit the Resend E-Mail button.
    9. Go to your inbox (also check spam) and when the Adobe mailer message is received copy (Ctrl+C) the long verification code.
    10. Return to the verification dialog and paste it (Ctrl+V) into the Sender verification field and click OK. Wait for validation confirmation then click OK to continue

  • How to block spam email sender on iMac ?

How to block spam email sender on iMac ?

You can setup a Junk mail filter in Mail preferences, it will still enter your mailbox but be under a Junk folder. You can then check and if required delete the mail.
In this web page note the option of applying the filter via webmail on an IMAP server such as iCloud.
    http://itservices.stanford.edu/service/emailcalendar/email/spam/filters/osx
Another option is a commercial filter for Mail, this one but I know nothing about this software, a google search will probably find others.

  • Outgoing mail from Mail.app received as junk/spam mail.

I am having a problem, and I can't seem to find an answer. I hope someone can help me. I have owned my machine for a little less than 2 years, and this problem has always been present, but now it is serious.
When someone receives my emails sent from the Mail app in OSX, it is not sent as my My Name <[email protected]> it is viewed by me in my sent folder, and received by others as Administrator, with no address attached. Often this leads to my emails being sent directly to their junk/spam folders. I am a designer, and have been trying to send clients pdfs, as well as communications to others of importance...and they are not receiving these emails. I changed my address card in OSX from administrator to my real name, and have searched for eons for a solution, all to no avail. I am in desperate needs for a solution, please someone help!?!?!?

    never mind I fixed it......
it was a short name issue....

Spam is all over the place. Receiving the odd message is nothing to worry about. Changing your password won't stop you receiving spam. It's irritating, but if it's not too many messages just delete and ignore. If you start getting a flood of it then you may want to think about a spam-trap program.

  • Reoccurring spam email

I am using a MacBook Pro late 2013 model. OSX 10.9.5, processor 2.4 GHz intel Core i5, memory 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Mac Mail Version 7.3(1878.6).
I received an email from a friend that looked suspicious. I did not open the link and replied to him on that email(probably a mistake). I emailed back that he had been hacked. Since then I continually get the same 5 spam emails into my junk folder that I then delete and then go to trash and delete them. But they reappear in my junk mail almost immediately. I tried going into settings to stop receiving email from the address but that does not work. I assume this means that there is some type of virus that has put these emails into my hard drive. How do I get rid of this problem?

    To make this short:
    1) your friend likely had absolutely nothing to do with the original spam message (a spammer just forged their email address - trivial to do)
    2) your friend is likely not infected with anything
    3) you are likely not infected with anything
    4) you cannot stop spam by blocking them in your email client (the details change with each email)
    5) the only thing you can do is wait until they stop and trash them in the meantime.  This typically goes away in a day or two.  Welcome to 2014!
Actually, depending on what email provider you use, you may be able to do something.  If you use a major email provider like Google, Microsoft, Comcast, etc..., then you may want to consider using their webmail system instead of a mail client on your computer.  You will be just as happy with it and you will have the added benefit of being able to mark emails as "spam" and have it mean something.  When you do this in webmail, you are actually reporting the emails to your provider.  When a large email provider receives reports of similar spam, it can take effective action by using powerful analytics to kill the majority of similar spam for you and all other users.
    Good luck.

  • HT1277 I've started receiving a mass amount of spam emails in my .mac / .me account.  This is the first time I've noticed this problem.  Can I change a setting to stop getting 30 emails / day?

Is there a setting I can select to stop the mass amounts of emails coming in
    Don

Hi Don, you can change your .mac/.me password for safety, but that isn't likely the problem.
There's no real way to stop it, you can train Mail to learn what is Junk/spam though it takes a bit.
    Might try reporting the spam...

  • Blocking Spam Email

Greetings! Can anyone share how to block spam email on the iPhone? I have the spam email blocked on my pop email account but it is not blocking it once delivered to my iphone.

You should ask your email account provider why they don't have an adequate junk mail filter available at the incoming mail server.
The iPhone's mail client does not include a junk mail filter and even if it did, it wouldn't match the junk mail learned settings with the junk mail filter used with the email client on your computer.
With an IMAP account, you can store the account's junk mailbox on the server, which will be available and kept synchronized with the server automatically when accessing the account with the iPhone's mail client. Keep the email client on your computer launched and running actively checking the account for new messages - checking for new messages every 5 minutes. Any message that is marked as junk with the junk mail filter used with the email client on your computer and moved to the account's junk mailbox stored on the server will be reflected automatically when checking the account with the iPhone's mail client - all server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.
So in effect, you have a junk mail filter available with the iPhone's mail client that is being handled with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account.
This is not possible with a POP account, which is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
