Unrecognisable format on photos....?

when i try to load photos [in particular downloaded from e:mails] to Photobucket they are Not recognised in their
format...how do i convert them...? My imac is 2 months old

Photobucket can upload these file types, if its not one of them use Preview to save to a jpeg:
gif, jpg, jpeg, png, bmp

Is it for one photo or for all photos?
Try using Image Capture rather than iPhoto, hopefully that fixes things.

"Unrecognisable Format" when trying to open file in EXCEL for Mac

Hi guys,
The other night I left my comp on, with a microsoft excel file open, and the battery went flat. Obviously the computer closed down, but the next day when I tried to open this particular file, all I can get is "This file is in an unrecognisable format", and it won't open.
Can anyone help? Is there a way of reverting to an earlier saved version of this file? (eg from the day before?)

That file is probably dead and gone
Do you have a backup that you made previously if not that's something else to put right urgently
I haven't used Excel for over 10years so you will need to check the help files but at one time I thought it did a save of the open file every so often as AppleWorks does on the Mac. If so find where it is, help files again, it may not be under the name you called it but a reference given by the software.
Also try a search on the name and or date they may show it up

Why is .jpg unrecognised format?

I am trying to import some files (which are scans of photographs) into iPhoto and a number of them will not import. A window opens with the message "This is an unreadable file" and "The file is in an unrecognisable format". All these files are .jpg, so I am unsure what is unrecognisable about them. Can anyone give me some advice as to how to load these into iPhoto.

Some possibilities:
Wrong colour profile - iPhoto supports RGB not greyscale or CYMK
Invalid Metadata - Open and Save in Preview, then see will they import
Damaged Library: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Problems transferring photos from a Windows formatted iPod Photo to new G5

Hi all,
I have recently come back from an overseas trip where I stored many many photos on an iPod Photo, using a PC with Windows XP. Now that PC is stuck in the repair shop - most likely not worth saving - and I have bought myself a G5 with OS X and iLife.
Basically iTunes can recognise the number of photos on the iPod, however I cannot view them when I open the Photos folder when in the disk drive. Two folders come up: 'Photo Database' and 'Thumbs'. (I hope I haven't lost the HI RES photos!)
I know there was one post that mentioned creating an empty folder then sync it using iTunes in order to transfer the photos from the ipod- I'm just a bit weary of losing all the photos seeing a warning message displays a similar note.
I thought Mac computers can recognise Windows formatted devices/docs. May it be that the iPod needs to be updated?
I'm calling out to all Mac-savvy users out there who may be generous enough with their time to solve this annoying issue.

With previous IOs version , when using photos from my albums to make background image , format would have fit itself . But with iOs7 , it stays at the photo's original format and doesn't adjust to screen size .

Exporting and importing movies in iPhoto - unrecognised format

I am trying to export just a few movies from iphoto in my user account, to my daughters parental support account on the same mac. (I imported from her camera to my account by mistake and deleted them from her camera, but want them only to be on her account ..... )
It has worked fine for the photos.
I am selecting the movie files. File export, kind original. this exports a .AVI file which i have put in a shared folder. I can reimport these .AVI files into my iphoto but when i fast user switch to her account , open iphoto, and try to import i get an error message saying that the file could not be imported due to an unrecognized format. I have spent ages trying to get this to work, checking file permissions etc, but i cannot get the movies across.
An additional frustration is that if i create a new folder in the shared area, or rexport the files again from my iphoto ( i was trying exporting in all the different kinds to see if that works), then the new files i exported do not show up in either my daughters finder or iphoto files.Why is this? Are they hidden? and if so why do these ones not show but the first ones i exported do show?

AVI is not a native mac video format, and it will depend on the codec used in the AVI, if Quicktime can play it. Do you have additional codecs installed in your account, that are not installed for all users and missing in your daughter's account? For example Perian, or Flip4Mac? Then install these too for your daughters account.

Format for photos has changed to aspx instead of jpeg. Can't open them

can't save photos or documents under jpeg format. This just started a few days ago. When something is saved in photos it shows the aspx format and the computer can't recognize it. I'm not able to open anything new.

I have a macbook pro after last update iphoto does not recognize the formate of a lot of my pictures.

What version of iPhoto and system are you running? What do you mean by :does not recognize the formate of a lot of my pictures."? Are these photos already imported into the library? What do you see when you open iPhoto?

How to import RAF format raw photos taken by Fujifilm X-T1 to Lightroom 4.4? RAF raw files cannot be recognised by Lightroom 4.4

Fujifilm X-T1 is on the list of cameras with RAW file format supported by Lightroom, but I fail to import the RAF raw format photos taken by Fujifilm X-T1 to Lightroom 4.4 with the error message "Lightroom can't process the RAW files". Is there a way to fix it?

It is but Raw support varies depending on the version of Lightroom. Newer versions have more Camera Raw support than older versions.
The column on the right hand side says "Minimum Lightroom version required" for the Fuji X-T1 is 5.4.

Raw support is never added to older versions of LR retrospectively so Lightroom 4.4 will never be able to read X-T1 Raw files.
Your choices:
Pay to upgrade to Lightroom 5, or
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all X-T1 Raw files to DNG format then edit the DNGs in Lightroom 4.4

Read Only or "Locked" format on photos on Elements 9 Organizer

I haven't been able to delete or edit any of my pictures from my catalog on my elements 9 organizer for the past week! I'm running Elements 9 on my newly purchased MacBook Pro, so I'm not too familiar with anything on this system as I've always used Windows with my photoshop in the past. All of my 422 photos in my catalog are a hourglass symbol instead of the actual photo and anytime I try to delete the photo an error message pops up and says "Error Deleting Media", file is either in read only format or locked. I cannot figure out how to fix this and I've tried everything! There is something obviously wrong with the files so at this point, I just want them completely deleted from the organizer and my hard drive. If anyone could offer any insight, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thank you!

When I did the command "i" on my photo, it just brought up a box that said it was searching for the missing files and then asked me to reconnect the file. It will not let me reconnect anything though. When this first happened a few days ago, there were only about 4 photos that showed the hourglass symbol and now, all 422 "photos" show the hourglass symbol.

What is the best file format for photos?

I am going to be importing some photos into FCE 3.5.1 to do some effects and motion. What is the prefered file format form Photoshop for FCE? TIFF, JPEG, and PS format all import, but I'm just wondering if one is prefered over the other.
My images will be pretty big, 3000 pxels x xxx at 72dpi, so I can move in and out, and maybe pan.

Color change in format QuickTime Photo-JPEG

Why the output file in this format is not equal to the color of the source???
But in black and white area ok (green arrow). Only in colors (red arrow).
"Match Legacy After Effects QuickTime Gamma Adjustments" does not help.

I was able to test the same files (from 2014.2) in the CS4 and CS5.
in CS5 colors is equal!
in CS4 no
I used FFMPEG to convert original avi to mov -vcodec mjpeg -qscale:v 1
and this new file with normal color! its equal
And if convert QT PHOTO jpeg from AE to AVI -vcodec huffyuv
color is also normal in new avi!
Looks like that АЕ can not properly open their own files?!
