Unrecognized file format (JPEG) in Photoshop Elements

why does Photoshop Elements (Ver. 10) say a file created in Elements and saved as a JPEG file say that it is not a recognized format when I go to open the file later?

What is the full name of that file?
Does it include fancy characters, or several dots (.)?

Am I able to convert RAW files to jpegs on Photoshop Elements?

    Hi,
Sorry, but with the information you have given, the only answer I can give is "possibly".
Each camera model produces a slightly different raw format - even different models by the same manufacturer and even if they have the same extension (file type). The latest cameras will not be supported by older versions of Photoshop Elements although there is a converter which can help.
To give you a better answer, we need to know
    1) The camera make and model
    2) The version of Photoshop Elements that you are using
    3) The operating system that you are running on.

  • Why isn't .jfif not listed in the JPEG file extensions (.jpg, .jpeg, .jpe) Photoshop Elements 12

    Problem:  Corrupt JEPG files.
    Software:  Adobe Photoshop Elements 12
Story: On my website I have the option to sell files as instant downloads.  I upload JEPG 300dpi images of my artwork for people to purchase is a download.  I have done this on Etsy for several years without a problem.
The problem began when I setup a website using Weebly, an online build your own website company.  I upload the same files I have used in the past, but when I do a test purchase and download my file it is corrupt.  I get an error message in Photoshop Elements that the file is corrupt or missing information.  If I let Photoshop open the file, the file it is only half there or lines through the image.
I have been working with a Weebly tech to solve the problem.  I sent him the file I wanted to upload.  He opened the file on his computer and saved it.  Then uploaded to my site, I downloaded it and the file was fine a perfectly clear 300 pdi JPEG file.  We were confused.  After a few more tests he mentioned he did not have Photoshop and was using Microsoft Paint (light bulb) to open and save the files. His files worked, mine did not.
So I tried opening my files in Paint and saving them in that JEPG format and they work.  The only difference i can see between Paints JEPG save option and Photoshops Save Function is that Paint includes the .jfif extension.
Question:  Should this make a difference?  if so can I add the file extention to Photoshop's list of file types that I can save?
    Thanks
    Mark

Thank you I will check it out.  I am not sure what information is attached to picture files, but the same file saved in Microsoft Paint works in my situation and the Photoshop file will not. The only difference is Paint supports.jfif and photoshop does not.  I might want to go the other way jpg to jififs. or save with to jepg with software that supports jfifs.

  • How can I save a file as eps in Photoshop Elements 11?

I would like to save a jpg file as EPS using Photoshop Elements 11 but EPS does not appear as an option in the drop down list of available file formats.  Looking through the Elements 11 help pages it clearly lists EPS as an available file format and explains that it can be selected from the drop down list when using 'save as'.  Why does it not appear to be an option?

If  you have acrobat in a newer version you could file >> reduce file size
Otherwise you coudl print to .ps file and upload that to an Online service to makes PDFs

  • Unrecognized file format

I'm using a Fujifilm s1500 to upload photos to iPhoto. I've uploaded with this camera several times now with no issues. After trying to upload my latest pictures several times, I got the same response: "unrecognized file format." 4 pictures uploaded, 45 did not.
I was looking through the discussions, and tried the suggestion of using image capture. It looked as if all the pictures transferred, but when I opened the folder, there's nothing in it.
Does anyone know why this would all of a sudden happen? All the photos are .jpg. Any thoughts on what I could try next?
    Thanks

Directory damage...so that doesn't mean the photos are lost, just somewhere the data has gone awry?
Doesn't necessarily mean they are lost...
I'm just wondering because I can see the pictures in iPhoto, just can't import them.
It's probably seeing a jpeg preview that written to most files by the camera
Also, any reason why the camera connected to the computer won't show on the desktop?
Well assuming it has in the past... Directory damage. However, some cameras don't mount in the desktop at all. Canon cameras for instance.

  • Unrecognized File Format when importing:

Hi, I have an older Canon Rebel XT (It does not shoot in RAW format-that's how old it is). I have had no problems importing to iPhoto until recently. Now iPhoto imports just some of my images & gives me an error msg saying the rest are an "unrecognized file format". They are all hi-res RGB jpegs w/ '.JPG' suffix. I am not using any camera effects or B&W settings. I am using iPhoto 8.1.2. I replaced the memory card, thinking it might be corrupt, but I still get the msg. All images import fine to my MacBook (running 10.6.6), but I'd really like to be able to import them to my iMac which has much more HD space. Any help would be appreciated.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

if you follow all 7 steps you can dl a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-11-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l
    and activate with your serial.
if you have a problem dl'g, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  the most common error involves failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).

Really? That's extremely unusual. Have you looked at all the discs? In any case you can download the mac version here:

Why is it so difficult to convert a Raw image to a jpeg in Photoshop Elements ?! I have version 12. Once i realized to change the tick box in Camera Raw to 8 bit instead of 16 bit and Flatten image ( sometimes can flatten image if the flatten option isn't greyed out) hey presto i thought i was up and running. However after saving the photograph as a jpeg and renaming it e, after the word edit. I switched off/on my computer only for all the images i had spent time working on to have disappeared. Feeling very upset as there is no Technical Help to telephone at adobe and i don't know what to do.

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • JPG is an unrecognized file format?!?! ***?

I tried to download pics from my Kodak Z812 IS digital camera like have done no less than thirty times without any problems, and for some reason, now iPhoto says there was an error importing the pics because they are an unrecognized file format. They are all .JPG or .MOV! The files aren't corrupted because they downloaded fine onto my wife's PC. Anyone know why iPhoto suddenly doesn't work?

    PJ
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • What is the exact file name for Adobe Photoshop Elements application?

what is the exact file name for Adobe Photoshop Elements application?
I jsut downn laoded it and the alias does not work. in the  support folder I have an application titled Adobe photoshop Elements Editor and it lauches ok but when I got to import a photo it only asks for a frame from  a video.

You do not import anything to the editor. You just open things there using File>Open. Import is only for frame from video and for scanning if your scanner is compatible and you install the PSE twain plug-in.
If you wish to use PSE to keep track of your photos, launch Adobe Elements 11 Organizer instead of the editor.

  • Error message says "the file archive part of photoshop elements 11 is missing"

I made a purchase that included a free software bundle with Photoshop elements 11 yesterday and have now downloaded both files 5 times, followed all the information I have been able to find on the forum threads but still have the  error message
error message says "the file archive part of photoshop elements 11 is missing"
I am at my wits end as I really want to get this downloaded. Have been using elements 8 for years and love it but wanted to update it to 11 and this was going to be perfect but has turned into a 15 hour nightmare trying to get some where with it.
Can anyone please help me out before I stake my pc?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Summer,
The error message you are getting is indicative of the missing files for the installer to get started with the installation.
Navigate to the location where you saved your download. If you see any files ending in ".part" then the download did not finish. ".Part" files are temporary files replaced by .7z, .exe, or .dmg when the download is complete.
For Windows the Photoshop installer has 2 files - one with .7z extension and the other with .exe
Make sure you have downloaded both the files in the same folder. Run the .exe file to start the installation.
Alternatively you can try downloading the files from the direct download links available at : http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-11-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l
Please make sure you follow the important steps mentioned on the page before initiating the download.

  • VLC: Unrecognized file format

When trying to play an avi file in VLC, I get an error saying "Unrecognized file format."  I downloaded and wine'd GSpot, and it says that the file is encoded in dvsd format (DVC/DV Video).  It also mentions that it's DV Type 1 AVI and it;s using OpenDML (AVI v2.0).  I have everything that comes to mind installed as far as codecs go, but it still can't recognize it.
