Unrecognized file format

I'm using a Fujifilm s1500 to upload photos to iPhoto. I've uploaded with this camera several times now with no issues. After trying to upload my latest pictures several times, I got the same response: "unrecognized file format." 4 pictures uploaded, 45 did not.
I was looking through the discussions, and tried the suggestion of using image capture. It looked as if all the pictures transferred, but when I opened the folder, there's nothing in it.
Does anyone know why this would all of a sudden happen? All the photos are .jpg. Any thoughts on what I could try next?
Thanks

Directory damage...so that doesn't mean the photos are lost, just somewhere the data has gone awry?
Doesn't necessarily mean they are lost...
I'm just wondering because I can see the pictures in iPhoto, just can't import them.
It's probably seeing a jpeg preview that written to most files by the camera
Also, any reason why the camera connected to the computer won't show on the desktop?
Well assuming it has in the past... Directory damage. However, some cameras don't mount in the desktop at all. Canon cameras for instance.

  • JPG is an unrecognized file format?!?! ***?

I tried to download pics from my Kodak Z812 IS digital camera like have done no less than thirty times without any problems, and for some reason, now iPhoto says there was an error importing the pics because they are an unrecognized file format. They are all .JPG or .MOV! The files aren't corrupted because they downloaded fine onto my wife's PC. Anyone know why iPhoto suddenly doesn't work?

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • VLC: Unrecognized file format

When trying to play an avi file in VLC, I get an error saying "Unrecognized file format."  I downloaded and wine'd GSpot, and it says that the file is encoded in dvsd format (DVC/DV Video).  It also mentions that it's DV Type 1 AVI and it;s using OpenDML (AVI v2.0).  I have everything that comes to mind installed as far as codecs go, but it still can't recognize it.
    Any ideas?

  • Unrecognized File Format when importing:

Hi, I have an older Canon Rebel XT (It does not shoot in RAW format-that's how old it is). I have had no problems importing to iPhoto until recently. Now iPhoto imports just some of my images & gives me an error msg saying the rest are an "unrecognized file format". They are all hi-res RGB jpegs w/ '.JPG' suffix. I am not using any camera effects or B&W settings. I am using iPhoto 8.1.2. I replaced the memory card, thinking it might be corrupt, but I still get the msg. All images import fine to my MacBook (running 10.6.6), but I'd really like to be able to import them to my iMac which has much more HD space. Any help would be appreciated.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Unrecognized file formats

I am new to Mac and just got my first Macbook Pro. I have a collection of over 35K images on an external hard drive. I imported those images into iPhoto. When it was done, I received the message that 2,700+ files were not able to be imported. I tried to look at the log to see which files it was referring to, and I could not get the text to scroll to the right, and I could find no option to save or print the log. I clicked okay because there was no other option. Is there any way to see that error log? Is it saved anywhere in a log file, or am I SOL?
Also, I know there are some really old and obscure files in my collection (i.e. Kodak's FPX image file format). I have no doubt those were on that list! There was also some RAW files from some very old Kodak Professional cameras (i.e. DCS520). Are there any apps or plugins available that I can use to convert these dinosaur files to TIFF's and JPG's? I still have my old Windows laptop around, but it would be quit combersome to go back to it just so I could convert those files, then bring them back to the Mac. Of course, if I actually knew which files they were, it would makes things much easier...
Thank you for any assistance or guidance you can provide!
    Kristine

    Thanks for your reply, Terence!
I went to Launchpad, Other, Console. I couldn't find anything relating to that specific error log. I did several searches for 'iPhoto' but didn't see anything that related to the file names or reason for the errors. Perhaps I am not looking in the right area or using the correct search critera?
I defintely know my way around a PC, but I'm still a newb with Mac, so I might have missed something. If there is any more specific directions you can offer, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much for your help!

  • Unrecognized file format (JPEG) in Photoshop Elements

why does Photoshop Elements (Ver. 10) say a file created in Elements and saved as a JPEG file say that it is not a recognized format when I go to open the file later?

What is the full name of that file?
Does it include fancy characters, or several dots (.)?

  • .AVI file format question

Upgrading from CS2 to Photoshop CS5
I found out after the fact that in order to edit video you need CS5 Extended.
So, I then went and returned regular and upgraded to Photoshop CS5 extended.
(See my other thread for details, but installing the 12.01 patch is not an option at this time.)
Try to use file open to open a .AVI file from one of my cameras and get a message of "unrecognized file format".
Was able to import the 7 second video into layers.
Checked support issues, and installed Quicktime 7.6.8
Also, due to 12.01 issues, reinstalled Photoshop CS5 Extended AFTER upgraded Quicktime to 7.6.8
Machine specs:  Toshiba Satellite P30  Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.60 GHZ (Hyperthreading Dual Core) 2GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon X600 Win XP Professional SP3 About 12 GB disk space available at install time.
Note that Quicktime will open the .AVI file in question with no problems, as well as Roxio software (trying to get rid of that with CS5)

I talked to support via phone and it appears the the problem is in installation.  The install of CS5 extended did not take over the regular install.  So, I need to start by completely uninstalling AGAIN and installed extended from scratch AGAIN.
I did try the program mention GSPOT as well.  It says AVI codecs are installed on the machine inquestion.  I will get more informaiton tonight afte rI do the re-install and see what happens.

  • Photo will not upload my pictures from the same camera that always worked in IPhoto.  Says "could not be imported (may be unrecognized file type or files may not contain valid data).  So how do I do it?

Photo will not upload new photos from same camera that always worked in IPhoto.  Says "could not be uploaded )may be unrecognized file type or files may not contain valid data).  Help!

Try image capture or a card reader - after the photos are safely on your Mac then use the camera's format command to reformat the memory card

The server has changed so all you need to do is replacing "catalyst.apocalypsus.net" with "catalyst.wirephire.com".

  • Interesting iPhoto "unrecognized file" issue....

My wife scanned in a bunch of photos on her Intel iMac running 10.6, using an HP scanner and the scanner drivers built into Snow Leopard.
iPhoto refused to recognize about half of them. They would open just fine in Preview and in the quick-look, but iPhoto wanted no part of them.
Photoshop had no problem with them, so I opened them in Photoshop and saved them as JPEGs. iPhoto still would not import them.
    Same for JPEG-2000 and PNG.
Saving them as TIFF files worked and iPhoto would import the TIFFs.
Now here's where it gets REALLY odd.
I had iPhoto export the images it (finally) accepted as TIFFs to a folder, in jpeg format.
You guessed it - iPhoto would not re-import the files that iPhoto had created. Returned the same unrecognized file type error.
    Totally weird.

    Surfguinea,
I had never used Automator before, and I was amazed just how easy and intuitive it is to set up and use a work flow...
To ensure my original photos are preserved, I decided first to copy them to the desk top, and after Automator has completed the conversion, to manually move them to my iPhoto file library folders...
The steps you need to take are...
Open Automator, select Finder, Applications, Automator, then choose the Workflow template...
Then select the Actions from the library, and drag them to the window to build the workflow sequence...
The actions you need to convert the colour profile are...
Ask for Finder items (select from File & Folders)...
Select Start at: and pick the folder that contains your photos...
Select Type: and select Files, and tick Allow Multiple Selections.
Copy Finder items (select from File and Folders)...
Select To: and select Desktop (or another folder if you wish)
Apply ColorSync Profile to Images (select from Photos)...
Select Profile:, Display, and the pick the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 option.
Select the Run button, and you will be prompted to select multiple photos to convert...
The photos selected will be copied to the Desktop (or your new folder),
and the Colour Profile will be converted to sRGB IEC61966-2.1,
which iPhoto is quite happy to import.
Manually move the converted photos from the DeskTop to wherever you want to keep your Photos, or import directly into iPhoto.
I suggest you select a few photos only for your first Automator Run, have a look at the before and photos, and confirm the conversion.
Right click on the photo file name in Finder,
Select Info, then More info, and
    Note the Colour profile.
    Have fun...

  • File Format options not appearing in the Save As dialog box - InDesign CC

So i was working with a legacy file (an .eps from illustrator4) that i placed into InDesign CC, and when i went to export as a jpg, the option to choose a different file format from the bottom of the dialog box was gone. Did i hit some crazy shortcut to remove the options, or is this a bug that occurs when working with certain legacy files? I've restarted InDesign, rebooted my laptop, deleted my Adobe preferences, reset my adobe warning dialogs, and I still cant export or save as any other file format because the option doesnt appear. And it doesnt matter if i create a new file or open an existing one. Please help. See the pic below. No option for file format on the bottom of the dialog box.

    Thank you very much!
Reinstalling worked, but i'd still kinda like to know what caused this problem & if this will continue to happen. To me, reinstalling is pretty much like having to reboot anytime you go to IT -- they dont know what the problem is, they just know how to fix/stop it.

  • Duplicate File Format options in Save As Dialog

I am getting duplicate file format options in my save as dialog. I am running photoshop 12.0.1 on mac os x 10.6.4.

  • How to export table contents in xml file format through SQL queries

    hi,
i need to export the table data in to xml file format. i got it through the GUI what they given.
    i'm using Oracle 10g XE.
but i need to send the table name from Java programs. so, how to call the export commands from programming languages through. is there any sql commands to export the table contents in xml format.
and one more problem is i created each transaction in two tables. for example if we have a transaction 'sales' , that will be saved in db as
sales1 table and sales2 table. here i maintained and ID field in sales1 as PK. and id as FK in sales2.
i get the combined data with this query,
    select * from sales1 s1, sales2 s2 where s1.id=s2.id order by s1.id;
it given all the records, but i'm getting two ID fields (one from each table). how to avoid this. here i dont know how many fields will be there in each table. that will be known at runtime only.
the static information is sales1 have one ID field with PK and sales2 will have one ID filed with FK.
    i need ur valuable suggestions.
    regards
    pavan.

You can use DBMS_XMLGEN.getXML('your Query') for generating data in tables to XML format and you can use DBMS_XMLGEN.SETROWSETTAG to change the parent element name other wise it will give rowset as well as DBMS_XMLGEN.SETROWTAG for row name.
Check this otherwise XMLELEMENT and XMLFOREST function are also there to convert data in XML format.

However, I like to mention that the file created from out ECC 5.0 (6.40, non-Unicode) contains a special character between the XML header and the data part (when displayed using NotePad Editor):
    ...xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>[special character]<asx:abap xmlns:asx="http://www.sap.com/a...
Using a HexEditor the special character (0x0A) is displayed as a dot.
