Unreliable access to PXI boards

I am using a PXI-1033 chassis with PXI-5405, PXI-6541, and PXI-5105 connected to a PC via PCI-PXI 8331 MXI. The first time I loaded the drivers and software, then turned off the PC (Windows 7), then I switched on the PXI-1033 and all of the boards were identified and access LEDs turned on. Several days later, when switching on the PXI-1033, the chassis powered on successfully and was linked, but the PXI boards' access LEDs never turned on. I tried several times switching on and off in different orders with no success. Each time, the devices showed up in device manager, so I tried re-installing the drivers. That day the devices worked correctly again. But now, 1 week later, the access LEDs do not turn on!
I need a solution that doesn't require reinstalling all drivers everytime I want to use the devices.

When the access lights on your modules are not turning on, do the cards themselves still function (can you get input/output from them)? Do the devices still show up in MAX? You are correct in turning on the PXI-1033 chassis first. You will always need to boot the chassis first, then the PC.
Also, have you taken a look at the troubleshooting section of one of your module's user manual? There is a section about access LEDs not turning on that gives steps to try to fix the issue. It sounds like you may have already done a couple of the steps, but I recommend trying the each step in the manual. Let me know!

PXI-board only returns perfect sine wave

This is a strange one:
Im peforming synchronized sampling from two boards; one is a PCI-6224 in my computer and the other a PXI-6229 located in our PXI-system. Being a rookie when it comes to labview, I was quite proud of myself for managing this all by myself. However, when i looked closer at a 10 sec test-record I noticed something peculiar. Although none of the 32 (differential) channels had inputs during the recording, the PXI-board returned 16 perfect 1 Hz sine waves with exactly the same amplitude as the measurement range. Attaching a signal to the terminal block didn't alter this. The PCI-board returns only weak 50 Hz (power network) noise, as expected. What is going on ??
I'm using a PXI-1031 chassis together with a PXI-8184 controller connected to the PC with a network cable. I trigger the pxi-board by sending the PC-clock through a PFI-port and a physichal wire.

As I said, I haven't used LabVIEW 8 all that much. It's a bit tricky: you'll have to make a new Project, add the PXI as a new Target, and the add the VI you're trying to run underneath the new target. The last time I was playing with this I also had to open some ports in the Windows XP firewall.
If this is all a bit much for you, you might have a PXI controller that is configured to dual-boot both LabVIEW RT and Windows XP. If you reboot the controller in Windows XP mode, you can then access the PXI-6229 in the same way you currently access the PCI-6224... provided you don't mind copying the VIs over and hooking up a mouse, monitor, and keyboard to the PXI.
Switching from LV RT to Windows XP is most easily done by selecting the appropriate option in the PXI's BIOS. Check your PXI controller's manual for details.

as far as i know there are many documents with it. Install it like every other hardware. To test it there is a program from Condor Engineer. To build your application, there are good example for BC, BM and RT.

Triggering PXI-board: Intermittent failure?

Hi, Everyone!
I'm trying to perform sampling from two boards at the same time. One board is an ordinary PCI-6224 and the other is a PXI-6229 located in our PXI-system. After a lot of trial and error (and some help from these discussion boards) I succeded performing sycnchronized continuous sampling from both boards by using the VI attached. It exports the master clock to a pfi-port and this signal is taken in by the pxi-board through another pfi-port and a physical wire.
Apparently, the VI manages to trigger the pxi-board, but not every time. Looking at an array indicator while running my main program I se that the channels from the pxi-board "drop out" perhaps one in four times. Any idea what cause this behaviour? I'm an amateur in LV and can't figure this out myself.

Hello!
You could implement some real HW triggering in order to fully synchronize the boards. Please look at shipping examples and examples on our website where you can see SW triggered and HW triggered examples. If you look at these examples you will also see how they make parts of the code execute in a specific order using the error cluster.

NI-DAQ 6.9.3f4 doesn't work with 6025E PXI board.

The PXI 6025 board will do single point aquisitions but won't do waveform aquisitions with NI-DAQ 6.9.3f4. The software would also crash the system when trying to run the test panel in Measurement and Automation. After reinstalling 6.9.1f28 it worked fine.

I did all that. I completely uninstalled NI_DAQ (twice I don't think it installed correctly the first time). I removed the 6025 card. I reinstalled NI-DAQ 6.9.3f4. Rebooted. Shut down and installed the 6025 board and booted up. Measurement and Automation sees teh board but now the test panel is disabled and when I try to recompile the LabView that was working withthe older NI-DAQ I get an error that says "A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed." The same thing happens in the DAQ Solution.
During all this the 4060 DMM board got lost and Measurement an Auto. doesn't recognize it anymore. I've have reinstalled NI-DMM.

PXIe-7962R on-board RAM timing

Hello everyone,
I am working with PXIe-7962R on a project for which I have written custom VHDL code and inserted it into the design using HDL Node.
I need to access the on-board (512MB) RAM and I am doing this by connecting my custom unit with the memory pins within LabVIEW.
However, I need to at least know some basic information about the timing of the RAM, because the timing is tight and I can't just poll the read strobe pin. I need to know beforehand how long the first read and each subsequent read takes so that I can schedule the operations I need to perform.
Does anyone have the information I request or is there a datasheet with the timing diagram of the on-board RAM?

Are you developing a custom adapter module? Can you provide me a list of your hardware and software? We'll likely need to get the PSE involved if you are doing custom module development.
Based on your description (accessing the pins "directly", just as you do with the DAQ module inputs/outputs by dragging and dropping them on the schematic), it sounds like are using I/O nodes from the CLIP. If you are interacting with the memory through the FPGA diagram, the latency will be controlled there. If you are accessing it directly through VHDL in your CLIP, then I honestly don't know.
Can you give me complete hardware/software configuration in regard to the FlexRIO and adapter module?
Could you also provide a screen shot of the code you are using to access the DRAM? Is it directly from your CLIP/VHDL, or on the block diagram of the FPGA VI?

How do I restrict access to the RT Series PXI Controller via its FTP server?

The RT Series PXI Controllers run an FTP server, so I can view files on the controller over the Internet wtih a Web browser. I can also download and upload files with a Web browser. How can I instruct the FTP server to give access only to specified, trustworthy FTP clients?

It is possible to "Lock" the controller from the Measurement and Automation Explorer program. The password you set when locking the controller (which prevents others from making configuration changes to the controller while running) is the same password that controls access to the FTP server. When the controller is unlocked, anyone who can access the PXI controller's IP can read, write, and delete files on the FTP server. When locked, anyone can read data from the FTP server, but only when logged in with the lock password will you have access to write or delete data.

Compilation error - FPGA NI PXI-7951R board - ERROR: Xst: 2472 - Top module Puma15Top was not found.

I'm trying to compile a "user CLIP socket" for the NI PXI board - 7951R which has a Virtex-5 LX30 FPGA from Xilinx, but I got the bellow message from NI Compiler, this message is in error report Xilinx.log.
It says that module Puma15Top was not found.
But this module is a NI property and is automatically compiled by NI Compiler.
The compiler automatically generates these files (Puma15Top...) that are passed to the compiler of Xilinx. The Puma15Top files are in the path, i.e: C: \ NIFPGA \ compilation \ Told_F_I_CC5DC260 \ source_files.
This folder name is automatically generated by labview (Told_F_I_CC5DC260) for each different project or compilation.
So I have no way to configure in CLIP files where it'll be Puma15Top, once the path is automatically generated during compilation by Labview.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem? Or have you experienced some like this?

I am curious if is possible to run an application that reads one channel of a DAQ board while another application already is reading different channels on the board.

You can have more than one application accessing a DAQ board at a time but not for the same type of process, such as analog input. I tried a setup where one program was accessing analog input channel 1 and a separate program was accessing analog input channel 2. Only one program would run at a time. However, you can have an analog input program and a separate analog output program accessing the same board running at the same time.

Pxi switching boards causes pc can´t boot

Hi,
I have pxi-1044 with some pxi boards (pxi-4065 / 6509 / 2529 / 8431 / 8432 / 2576 (3 borads) )
and the pxi-8310 controller.
When the system was configured for the first time, it works ok.
but 2 of the borads (pxi-8432 / pxi-2576 ) must interchange of slot (because of space problems with theirs conectors)
when the system powered, both led (power on pxi chassis) and (controller led) set, but windows xp can not boot,
controler led switch of, and computer reboot. again and again.
I remove all boards and check that all are recognized through MAX except the two boards switching.
I change pxi-8232 to another slot (never used) and the system look to work ok,
this board is recognized.
What is the right procedure to interchange some boards when MAX has a previos configuration?
I would like to use the slots which i have problems with, is it possible?

If you alter the device ID of the device from c801 to c821 within the driver module, you should be able to use the driver with the PXI board.

FPGA to FPGA communicaton in PXI chassis

I have two NI 5641R FPGA boards mounted in a 1062Q PXI chassis.
I would like to exchange data directly between the FPGAs. Is there a way to access the PXI bus from the FPGA code?
One solution could be sending data to the RT controller and then forwarding it to the other FPGA.
Nevetheless, I would like to find a way to communicate directly between the 5641R boards.

I believe going through RT controller would be your only option since these cards do not offer high-speed DMA transfers like what some of the RF signal generators provide.
If you are still very much interested and if you have any spare digital IO on both of your boards, you could implement a communication along with some needed hardware connections between the boards. But that's not a quick task...

Issue with Multi-Party Access in iSupport

I'm wondering if anyone has encountered this situation and has a solution or workaround:
Through iSupport registration, we create a new user as an employee of company A.
Using iSupport System Administrator, we associate new user with a second party and account, company B.
We log in to iSupport as the new user and switch the active party from company A to company B.
We attempt to create an SR for company B. At the end of the process, immediately prior to submission, we get an error message because there is no "Contact By".
The only way we have found to proceed is for the user to cancel the SR creation, navigate to their user profiles and add their email address (already captured during registration) to the company B information.
They now start SR creation again from scratch and the newly entered "Contact By" defaults into the SR. SR creation is now successful.
Imagine we set up a new user at a distributor, and the distributor handles 20 end customer accounts. For the user to be able to enter SRs for all 20 end customers, it would be necessary for them to go into 20 separate personal profiles and add the same email/phone information. It seems to us that a user's contact information from their "home company" should default to those parties that they are given access.
Is it possible to do this? Are we missing a configuration step that would cause this to happen?

Safari hangs almost everytime I reply to messages on this board

I have at home what I consider a fairly fast Verizon Business FIOS (15/2 megabit) connection, which along with Safari works extremely well, but invariably almost always hangs up when I access this AppleScript message board.
It hangs up mostly when I try to read and reply to individual messages, followed by trying to get back to the list topics. It almost always, without exception, hangs up when posting a new topic, or editing a new topic within the allowable first 15 minutes.
What I've noticed is that if I stop the spinning icon, and try to reload the page, sometimes the new message shows up on the list, and sometimes it doesn't and I have to re-enter it again. I don't normally get the error message below, because for the most part it becomes obvious that Safari is hung, and I just try to reload the list page and start over again.
I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this, or what the problem might be with my setup. I suspect it's the site, because as I mentioned before, Safari almost never hangs up for me, except at this site.
Any ideas ?

I don't have FIOS but I do use Safari to access the discussion forums without encountering the issue you've described (knock on wood). It's always hard to diagnose and troubleshoot connection issues without actually sitting in front of the computer (even more so when the problem is intermittent). Let me ask some questions:
Is your computer connecting wirelessly?
Have you tried resetting Safari and/or emptying the cache?
Have you tried Private Browsing to note any differences?
How about going to Safari's->Preferences->Security and checking/unchecking Web Contents and/or enabling/disabling cookies?
Have you tried creating another user account on your machine and log in with that user account to access the discussion board to see if there's a difference?
