Unrendered Bars and Tone (NTSC) in Generator

Hello,
I've had this strange problem for awhile now and cannot find a fix. My NTSC bars and tone generator from the viewer comes up as "Unrendered" in the Viewer and when I print to video, yet the tone is still good. All the other generators are working fine.
To try and fix this I have reinstalled several times, restarted many times and tried all manner of exporting, etc. Where can I go to correct this? I've searched the forums and internet and gotten no results.
Any help appreciated.

"Unrendered" in the Viewer window? Your FCP install is losing it's marbles.
... that's always a good indicator that its time to *Trash Your Preferences*

Make sure you have at least one audio channel active on the timeline before you drag it over.

All the discussion communities I could find seem to tell me how to do it in FCP7. And when I download versions from the internet, they play incorrectly-soft and warbly.

The 1 kHz Sine waves folder has three audio files:
1K mono
1K stereo
1K mono (short)
The tones were generated at -12 dBFS. You can use the “short” tone to bleep stuff out, if necessary. Remember that you may need to adjust it’s level.
The Color Bars with Tones folder has two video files:
178 Bars and Tone. That’s your 1980x1080 HD version. The tone is embedded, and is also 1K @ -12 dBFS
235 Bars and Tone . That’s your “Cinemascope” version. Resolution is 1920x816, tone embedded, same specs.
Keep in mind you can re-scale the video files. In other words, if you need 1280x720 (720p), just resize the 1080p movie and you should be good to go.

Color Bars and tone in FCP X?

Just downloaded FC"P" X and having a look around I cant find Color Bars or Tone anywhere...?
Did a quick search on the help... but couldn't find anything.
Surely I must be missing something here - they must be available right!!?
I know I could output some from my deck or earlier version of FCP but thats not the point really is it. What possible reason on God's green earth could there be for omitting something so simple. Sorry but most del specs (even for digital tapeless) require bars and tone.
Can someone point me in the right direction - they must be in here somewhere.

If I were to use FC X for a delivery then that would be the way to go I suppose.
Or generate b+t on the deck and ingest to the computer and then import to fcp.
Dont think I'll be using FC X for anything in the short term though. Just playing around. See where it goes.
So many odd decisions - why get rid of a perfectly good, simple feature like "make freeze frame" - I know you can do it using the retime tool now but its a round about way of doing things.
Sorry if sounded rude - there are so many crazy Apple fan boys willing to jump on people here at the slightest hint of criticism :-)

Using Bars and Tone When Importing From Cards?

I edited video for decades, and for years on an Avid, and quit before we started recording onto cards and entirely digital material. I'm used to importing, let's say Digibeta tape, and using the color bars and tone to set-up the picture and audio using the bars and tone the cameraman recorded before shooting. I've been asked to work on some projects shot on cards, not analog or digital tape, and many video editors stare at me when I mention setting up using bars and tone as if that is not necessary any more.
Every camera is going to lay down video with slightly different color and exposure characteristics and I would imagine that footage would need to be adjusted using color bars. Otherwise, wouldn't the colors and exposure from different cameras be inconsistent when cut together?
I understand that waveform monitors are still used to make sure shots are "broadcast legal" if the show is going to be broadcast, but are the waveform monitor and vectorscope not used when importing footage any more? I know that color hue is used by shifting the phase, which doesn't exist on digital, but there still must be a need to tweak the color coming from different cards and cameras. Please help me out on this...

I'm the OP and I'd like to get back to my original inquiry, and thank you all for reminding me that I'm not alone in trying getting blank stares when I ask for bars and tone at the top of the footage. But I'd really like to know how one sets up FCP to run the footage from the digital tape or chip and tweak the video signal before importing, so that all the footage I capture comes in with the video properly set.
For example, today I shot with some fellows rather new to video, but they put down bars and tone. When we went to import the footage (some from tape, some from chip) we couldn't figure out how to run the incoming signal through FCP, see it on the waveform and vectorscope, and access the controls to tweak the exposure and color BEFORE importing a single frame. Is that possible in FCP, would you please tell me how to do it?
We could tweak footage after we imported it into FCP, but when we wanted to tweak it before importing, when we tried to capture we got a dialog box that basically said "Capture" or "Cancel". Is there a Preference or setting to choose so that we can do what I want prior to importing, or am I stuck tweaking each shot after I've imported all the footage?

How to have a check on change bars and/or tags before generating a PDF

Hi All,
There were many instances where I have generated very huge books (over 1300 pgs), and realize that some chapter(s) (files) are printed along with the tags or the change bars on.
To resolve this, I had to go back and regenerate the same book after removing those properties which is cumbersome.
Is there any solution where I can have a check/popup, before generating the PDF, if any file(s) within a book has tags or the change bars on?

Thanks for your response and apologies for not mentioning the FM version (9)
that I am using.
I am now able to clear the tags in all the files within a book by your
suggestion to:
1. Select all files within the book
2. Go to View and select
3. Select Show Element Boundaries (as tags)
This will show the element tags in all the files
4. Select Hide Element Boundaries. This option is visible and enabled only
when I select the Show Element Boundaries.
I am just curious and waiting for your response to have a check on Change
Bars.

Which bars and tones to use? Generic Slate setup?

Can someone please tell me the proper order on how to setup the bars/tones/slate before a 30 second TV spot.
There are several options within FCP, which one do i use? I am sending 16:9 HDV footage (1080i60) to mini DV to be broadcast as SD. Some of these tapes will be converted over to BetaSP.
On the actual Slate, can someone please provide me a generic and safe way to setup the slate. What is to be on the slate, what colors are to be with the slate, how long is the slate to run etc.

You can't do this with a camera. You cannot play out to a camera and have your time code start at 58:00:00, bars start at 58:30:00 to 59:00:00, then have a slate for 10 seconds, then black, then have your picture start at 1:00:00:00. You need a deck for this. And a good DV deck, not a walkman type deck. DSR-45, DSR1500, something like that. And you need to Black and Code your tape with that deck, using either the deck to do it, or using the MASTERING MODE of your EDIT TO TAPE window.
Website to do this? You can try Lynda.com. But typically this is something you are taught, something you learn on the job working at a production company or post house. If you take a job where you are required to deliver broadcast masters, you'd better know how to do that. You might see if a production company will teach you to do this, or an engineer at a post house or TV station to tutor you, for a price, on what to do. This isn't editing your independent film or family video, or a wedding video or corporate video. This is broadcast television with strict standards...and standards that are slightly different depending on the network you deliver to.
Sorry...I am being elitist. But this is a highly technical job that takes a lot of technical expertise. This isn't building a playhouse for your kids in the back yard, this is designing and building your home or office building. You have to study this stuff and get to know it well.

Sending color bars with tone but no tone in STP

Sending a test sequence from FCP to STP that has a few seconds of color bars with tone. When viewed in STP I see the bars but no tone shows in the timeline. All other audio from video or music is fine. Practicing before I conform a major edit and wondering why tone isn't there. Afraid something else could show up missing when I work on my main sequence. No tone audio also in STP when I send a FCP sequence with bars and tone only in timeline. All maintenance (repair permissions, zap PRAM, safe boot) have been done. Suggestions? Thanks!

Because tone on bars provides a reference level for the audio in your movie.
Making line-up audio tone inaccessible in Soundtrack prevents the levels from being changed or inadvertently having a filter added which would invalidate that reference.
Let's say you mistakenly raised the tone level by 3dB and didn't notice. When you deliver the master to a broadcaster or other facility, they correct the level based on what it says on the recording report. The audio in your movie is now too low. Even worse, they might just reject your submission outright.
It's quite clever when you think about it...

Lost Color Bars and Unrendered Slate

Hi,
Installed FCS3 onto one system on an Apple Xsan as upgrade. Under the Machine login all works fine I can see Color Bars and anything that needs rendering plays with the slate as normal.
Now under a Client login, The Slate is missing and Color Bars are white in the Viewer (Set to RGB) and Black on the timeline.
I have killed all the Clients files on the local and network homes ie fresh install. but still has the same problem.
Does not make a difference what format you are in but when you go back to the Machine all is fine.
Any ideas..... as when you are playing the unrendered sections and come to a normal section it just keeps a freeze and then falls over asking for faster hard drives. But once rendered will play fine.

The main user should have a folder named "Constant Frames" in the Render Files folder. The color bars and unrendered slates are in there.
Even if you delete it, FCP should create that folder and it's content at the next launch.
You might try copying it from the main user to the Client users Render Files folder.
Doesn't solve the question of why it's not being generated though.

Office 2007 Ribbon Bar and Icons in LabVIEW

Hi all,
I've seen that with Visual Studio you can create applications which use the very nice Office 2007 Ribbon (menu) bar. Microsoft has also made available the Office 2007 icons via an Excel spreadsheet.
I would very much like to use a ribbon bar and these icons in a LabVIEW application. Does anyone know how to do this?

I assume MS provides the functionality in Visual Studio via a .Net interface. You should be able to use the same .Net interface with LabVIEW.

Recently backing up my ipad onto my macbook, which is the backup server for all of my gadgets. This includes all my photos and tons of music. The macbook said it could not backup the ipad because there was insufficient disc space to do so. What now?

I have a macbook operating OSX10.6.7. Recently backing up my ipad which had lots of photos from a recent vacation. I use this laptop as the backup server for all of my gadgets so it has thousands of photos and tons of music. It just told me that it couldn't back up the ipad bc there wasn't enough disc space. I was afraid that this would happen eventually. What next? Newer laptop with more space? I'm not sure what files I could sacrifice to free up more space as most of these are important.

What size hard drive do you have in your MacBook? The cheapest options are, a larger internal hard drive, or an external drive. Or you could get a cheap desktop PC and network to it for storage. I've got one that lives in the hall with 3 Terabytes (That's 3000gb) of storage.

I want to unload Yahoo tool bar and go back to firefox tool bar but cannot pull up a "tool bar" it is missing as well as the back icon My book marks are apparently in the firefox format and I cannot access them

Title Bar stuck under the Menu bar and I cannot select and move it.

I often arrange windows around the desktop and sometimes I inadvertently push a window up too far and the title bar gets under the menu bar. Once I let go of the arrow, the title bar is too far under the menu bar and I can no longer reach it to move it down. The only solution is to close out the program and start over. Is there a way unbeknownst to me to select the title bar again and move it?

My E*Trade streaming watch list was stuck under the Menu Bar also. I tried reseting the screen resolution down to 1280 x 1024, and restarting the MarketTrader. There on the display was the stuck window, out from under. I resized and moved it to a central location, and resized the display back to my normal 1920 setting. And to my relief, the window Bar! Menu bar and application toolbar

is there a way to change item text on menu bar and application toolbar eg in business partner overview(T-Code fmcacov) i want to change text 'Business Partner" to "tax Payer" on both menu bar an application toolbar. i have tried the norma way of going to change the screen but when i am on the GUI status its not going to change mode even sfter entering the access key

Open the program and click on GOTO=>ATTRIBUTES.
Change the text to the heading which you want.
SAVE & ACTIVATE.
Regarding opening in change mode, the steps you have carried out are correct.
You need to comment the existing gui-status by placing cursor on that line & click delete.
Then click on INsert button and add new gui-status.
