Unresolved Family Pack question

Someone in another thread was asking specifics about the family pack, and received a bit of hostility in return. While it may seem like people are trying to find out if Apple has some mechanism to prevent them from handing out licenses to friends, I think there are some legitimate questions regarding Apple's definition of Household. For instance...
The family pack allows students who are away at college to be considered part of the Household. When they graduate and move out, are they expected to purchase a new license?
If a couple that is living together breaks up, do they have to fight over who gets to keep the license?
If I get tired of taking care of a senior family member and send them off to the old folks home, will that person be expected to somehow uninstall Leopard and revert to Tiger?
If someone is stationed overseas to serve in our military at a location that prohibits them from being with their spouse and children, will they be able to use a license from the family pack? (If you answer no, you're not a patriot and you're probably emboldening the enemy.)
Just thought maybe someone could clarify this, because it sounds like Apple is saying, "While you must be part of the same household to legally use these licenses, we'll give you some leeway when you define your household, and really, we'd rather you buy a family pack then just pass around the same single license to everyone who's close to you, which is what many people would do anyway."

The family pack allows students who are away at college to be considered part of the Household. When they graduate and move out, are they expected to purchase a new license?
Not till they pay off their student loans and parents!
If a couple that is living together breaks up, do they have to fight over who gets to keep the license?
Not if they have an iron-clad pre-nup!
If I get tired of taking care of a senior family member and send them off to the old folks home, will that person be expected to somehow uninstall Leopard and revert to Tiger?
By then, Vista should be good to go!
If someone is stationed overseas to serve in our military at a location that prohibits them from being with their spouse and children, will they be able to use a license from the family pack? (If you answer no, you're not a patriot and you're probably emboldening the enemy.)
They, and their families, should get free licenses!

  • .mac Family pack:: questions about editing on two computers

Hey I'm new and would love some advice.
I'm a college student with some web experience. I'm helping out my folks' business by making them a website. I'd also like to have a website of my own.
    1. It would be great if I could edit their business website from my computer at college and they could update photos or info from their Mac at home. (how do I do that?)
    2. Also, if I am editing their website, do I need to be logged in as their .mac account in the system preferences?
    3. It seems that any website created is all in one file. How can I have two websites with separate accounts?
Thanks for your help! I'm still new to this.

  • Family pack question

I want to get Leopard, I want it on my iMac and notebook, so that's 2. Can I make a copy of the disc and send it to my mom so she can install it, she's got my old computer, has problems at times I can't help her with since she's on Panther, and I'm on Tiger, so I want to get us on the same system, but she's broke, as am I but it'd be fine if I can just let her use one of my 5 since I'm only gonna use 2. Would apple know and have a problem with this were she to ever call them for help etc?

    Lane S. wrote:
You CANNOT make a copy of a disc. That would be violating the Terms of Use. You may however give her the disc that you are using for her to install but *DO NOT* copy the disc.
This is absolutely NOT true. We are allowed a single copy of the Leopard DVD.
    From the Leopard EULA:
    C. You may make one copy of the Apple Software (excluding the Boot ROM code and other Apple firmware that is embedded or otherwise contained in Apple-labeled hardware) in machine-readable form for backup purposes only; provided that the backup copy must include all copyright or other proprietary notices contained on the original. Apple Boot ROM code and firmware is provided only for use on Apple-labeled hardware and you may not copy, modify or redistribute the Apple Boot ROM code or firmware, or any portions thereof.

  • OS 10.5 Family Pack Retail Questions: PowerPC Install; Used as Boot Disk?

I have a MacBook Pro (which I've not unsealed yet) that was sold with 10.5:
    (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/stats/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .53-aluminum-15-late-2008-unibody-specs.html)
and I have a Mac G4 Dual 867 powerPC, which will continue to run 10.4.11.
I also have a piece of database software that requires 10.5 so I am thinking of installing 10.5 on a separate hard drive in the G4 so I can run that software on the G4 if needed.
I believe I also recall reading that the install disks sold with the MacBook Pro can't be booted from (you need the retail).
    So my questions are:
    1. Does the retail version (family pack) include installers for both PowerPC and Intel Macs (i.e., I am free to install on any Mac which meets the minimum requirements)?
    2. The retail pack can be used as boot disk for the MacBook Pro in case of an emergency?
So far, from the research I've done I would say yes, but wanted to check.

Does the retail version (family pack) include installers for both PowerPC and Intel Macs (i.e., I am free to install on any Mac which meets the minimum requirements)?
Yes, as long as the Mac isn't newer than the disk.
The retail pack can be used as boot disk for the MacBook Pro in case of an emergency?
    See above.

  • How can I move an e mail account from one family pack to another

I have an e mail address (not main family pack e mail address) and I would like to move it to another family pack. Is this possible and if so how?
    Thanks

Caroline12, Welcome to the discussion area!
I believe that your question is about a Mobile Me family pack account. If that is true, I believe that the answer is no.
But your probably should post your question in the Apple.com > Support > Discussions > MobileMe discussion area.

  • Family Pack use in a company?

Are there any license restrictions regarding the use of the iWork Family Pack?
Some software has a "commercial use" clause preventing the use in a corporate environment, does iWork have anything like this regarding the family pack.
    So...
Can I buy the family pack & use it for example on 5 computers in a small company?
Other licences prevent installation on more than 1 premesis.
    So...
Can I install on 3 computers at the office & 2 at home?
and lastly where can I get a copy of the license agreement?
    Thanks

OK, found the license, all questions are answered in one neat paragraph:
    B. iWork Family Pack License. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-
labeled computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that same
household. By "household" we mean a person or persons sharing the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home or
condominium. This license does not extend to students who reside at a separate on-campus location or to business or commercial users. You
may not make the Apple Software available over a network.

  • Upgrading to 10.5 - Do I need a family pack?

I have a mac book pro and a powerpc g5. I want to upgrade them both to leopard and I'm getting conflicting messages about whether I can do it with a single user license or not. Can I? Do I have to buy the family package?

I don't agree. It looks to me that he asked that exact question and that would begin the point where it gets silly.
The way I read this thread is that someone wants to know if you need a family pack to install Leopard onto multiple computers (Post 1).
He's told that he actually needs the family pack or he will be breaking the EULA (Post 2)
He then posts a question if it will be difficult to do with just the *single user version* (Post 3) The it in the first post is to use a single user license on multiple computers.
Now if the original message didn't already say he wanted to install a single license to multiple computers, then maybe his question should be "would it be hard to install Leopard to a single machine?" That question has nothing to do with this thread.
That's the way it reads. No mind reading is possible. I read what he says and don't assume anything. If the subject is changed, then post a new thread or at least make it clear the subject has changed. He still needs a family pack to install Leopard to multiple computers. If he doesn't want to buy one, then he will have to go elsewhere for installation information that breaks the EULA.
The original post was not a silly question.
I got a feeling this post will get modified

  • Family Pack...posting iWeb from multiple computers?

So I apologize if this is a silly question...but need to verify my hunch. If I purchase a .mac family pack, can we post multiple iWeb sites from each of our four computers to that .mac account? So the sites would be, for example, web.mac.com/smithfamily/amy, and web.mac.com/smithfamily/scott...and such? I guess the real question, is can this happen from multiple computers accessing the same .mac account without them overwriting each other's sites? Thanks.

    Hi Amy,
I think this probably remains to be seen.
If you are using iWeb1.1.2, I would say yes, you can definitely do this, as you have described.
If you are using iWeb2.0, I would say maybe not. 2.0 is publishing to a different directory on the iDisk than 1.1.2 did, and each publish to this directory, at least, from a separate/different Domain.sites2 file, erases the previously published site to the iDisk.
It is a good question whether or not this would happen with individual machines, publishing to the same .Mac account, and this would actually be very helpful information about what it is that is causing this problem, should you be successful.
I have two machines myself, and I publish to the same .Mac account from each; however, only one of them is using iWeb2.0.
I say give it a try, using the 60 day trial version of .Mac. If it doesn't work then you haven't lost anything. (Not sure if you can try the family pack in a trial version)

  • Do we have to upgrade HRMS 11.5.10.2 Family Pack I to Family Pack K?

    Hi,
Just a really quick question. Do we need to do a HRMS upgrade from 11.5.10.2 Family Pack I to Family Pack K to get isetup working? Our DBA has identified through analyzing the recommended patches (for 11.5.10.2) that this is a pre-requisite. We really want to try and minimise testing\effort in getting isetup working.. can we avoid applying some patches? is there an alternative? or do we need to be on family pack K and apply all the recommended patches?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Well I really want to know if we have to apply the patch 5201280 which has the prequisite of being on Family pack K.. Can we skip this patch?
The README file of Patch 5201280 says you need to have (Patch 3333633 - Oracle HRMS Family Pack J) applied as a pre-req. (NOT Family pack K).

  • IWeb family pack help

I have the iweb family plan with a domain set up already..how do I create a new site/name for another domain? Does the family plan allow a site for each member?? Help Please

Yes - that is the whole point of a Family Pack, that you get your main MobileMe account and then 4 sub accounts where you can enter a personal domain name into each - so in effect 5 domain names if you want to use them all.
You need to set up your sub accounts from your main MobileMe account.  So in your main MMe account, there should be somewhere that says 'create sub account'.  Click on this to create your new sub account that will have a separate username and password.
Then log out of your main MMe account under System Preferences and then log into the sub account with the new username and password.  Then go to the personal domain name settings and add the new domain name as you would do in the normal way.
You can also create new users on your computer to enable quick switching between accounts if you want to.
This question would more appropriately have been placed on the MobileMe Forum.  It does not really have anyting to do with iWeb and is not a question directly related to iWeb.
Also note, that it is called the MobileMe Family Pack and not iWeb - MobileMe refers to hosting and has nothing to do with iWeb - the two are not connected.

  • Will there be a Lion OS Family Pack downloadable purchase? Or if not, a Family DVD hard copy purchase instead?

I have three (Family) computers, and really don't feel like payng three times.
Thanks in Advance For Answer to my above question.

It's actually an amazing deal.  The $30 is cheap to start with just for a single install.  In the past you were able to purchase a family pack, but at a somewhat higher price.  Snow Leopard was the same price, but it didn't offer much in terms of new features and other things that the end user would really appreciate.  It was more of a clean-up release that optimized the OS.  Most of the stuff was "under the hood".  With Lion offering so much, I wasn't expecting them to stay with the $30 price tag... especially for multiple installations.

  • .Mac Family Pack and iWeb

I want to upgrade my .Mac account to a Family Pack, but I'm a little unsure how the sub-accounts work in terms of publishing Homepages or iWeb sites.
    1. Can each sub-account publish his/her own Homepage or iWeb site?
    2. Does each sub-account have a distinct username associated with their Homepage or iWeb (e.g. homepage.mac.com/adminuser/subuser1)
    3. Are there any other concerns regarding the interaction of .Mac sub-accounts and publishing Homepage or iWeb sites?
    Thanks for any help!

Can the administrative peek into the subaccounts
    folders?
Only if you have their password. They can't look at yours either.
What would the Homepage/iWeb URL be for the admin,
    and for a subaccount?
    http://homepage.mac.com/username/
    http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/
-- substitute username for each subaccount user's name
Each subaccount truly is a separate account, albeit with less iDisk space and subaccounts cannot create e-mail only accounts.
If the subaccounts operate as their own .Mac account,
then is cost-savings the only benefit to the Family
Pack? Aren't there additional syncing benefits? Are
there any limits to the subaccount?
If you have one .Mac account and then add an e-mail account for each family member, all they get is e-mail. They do not get an iDisk or web publishing capabilities. They also cannot do any syncing.
If you buy a Family Pack,
    1. Each subaccount has 250MB iDisk space
    2. Each subaccount can use Backup for backup to iDisk
    3. You can share your Address Book with those family members so each has an identical copy (you can allow or disallow editing). They can also share their address books as well.
    4. Each subaccount can publish their own calendar, which can be subscribed to by other members.
    5. Each subaccount can publish their own website, share files using their Public folder, publish their own photos.
I'm sure I left something out. Hope this helps. Any more questions, ask away.

  • MobileMe Family Pack to iCloud email

    Greetings,
My question regards my former "family pack" on mobile me.
First, I have migrated all of my accounts and devices (well, until today) over to iCloud (3 macs, 3 iPhones, 1 iPad).
Under mobile me, I was the master account holder, and I had sub accounts (emails) setup for my wife and daighter - all good.
So, I used 2 of the 3 subaccounts available under my plan.
Christmas brought my Son a new iPad.
I figured I could just go in and use my 4th sub account to get him setup - however, under iCloud I see no provision to get to the account setup area.
Is this now obsolete? I know I've paid for my family pack through (I think June 2012) all I really want to do is setup my Son with an @me email account (which he really won't even use for awhile) and make it so he can access the app store, etc.
Do I have to setup a completely separate account for him (and pay yet another fee for iCloud service for him?
What happens when my current family pack expires - separate accounts (and fees) for each user?
    I'm confused.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to get this new iPad setup today :-)
    THANK YOU!

Her email address is her Apple ID. She should go to http://me.com/move and enter her MobileMe email address and password to upgrade: she will need to be running 10.7.2.

  • Upgrade from a single license to a family pack...?

Is it possible to upgrade a single user license for iWork 09 to a family pack? Sorry for posting here, there is no forum under iWork it seems. Thanks for any help.

    Mac Daddy 08 wrote:
I think the point of his question is, He wants to remove single user copy from his Mac, install family copy to all of his Mac's, and then possibly resale his single user copy.
I also would like to possibly do the same thing. When I upgraded to iLife '09, I only owned 1 Macbook, now I own 2 Macbooks and I would like to upgrade to family license. When I upgrade can't I resale my single user copy?
Check your licence agreement. If it doesn't prohibit transferring the (single user) licence, then it would seem reasonable to assume you can do so. Being neither a lawyer nor an Apple representative, my advice remains the same as before: This might be a question best answered at an Apple Store or another authorized reseller.

  • I work family pack - macbook air

    Hello,
Im trying to install the iwork (bought the family pack) in my macbook air and it asks me for the serial number, which I cannot find. The trial version has already expired, and I had to use my other mac as a remote drive for the dvd. any of those things can be the problem?
it doesnt work without this serial number, and keeps me asking for it...
    anyone??
    thanks in advance!
    juliana

First, you have posted in the iWork for iOS forum (iWork for iPad & iPhone). The confusion is probably understandable since there is no general iWork for Mac forum, just for each component.
Your question is a common one. It used to be that to update the trial to the licensed version with the box, you just inserted the DVD & ran the installer to convert the trial to licensed. This changed with Snow Leopard. You now need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.
