UNRESOLVED problems transferring license (they think I'm lying)

I purchased Photoshop CS3 from Amazon.com. I have the install media, the serial number, the manual, the box, etc.
My desktop PC (VMware Virtual Machine, actually) crashed. On trying to reinstall, the activation tells me it is installed on too many machines. It is, my laptop and my crashed PC. I obviously cannot release the license on my crashed system, the .vmdk file is thoroughly broken. On calling support, I found that they doubt that I purchased it legally. I have plenty of physical evidence that I purchased it.
I admit that I'm not good at keeping receipts. Why would I? I bought this 3 or 4 months ago without problem. It installed and upgraded to 10.0.1 without problem. Never thought I would need to keep my receipt. Adobe is now telling me that if I cannot get a copy of the receipt, my only recourse is to purchase again.
I'm out over $400 if I cannot convince Amazon.com to send me a duplicate receipt. I sure hope they can do that for me.
I'm frustrated and angry at being called a liar and told that I did not purchase this legitimately from a legit store (as opposed to auction sites, I read about the problems there). I did NOT purchase from an auction site. If I cannot get Amazon to send me a copy of my receipt, I'm out $400.
Anyone else have this problem? What was your final resolution? I offered to fax or email scans of the media, the box, the manual, etc. Did you finally just give up and move to something else or did you finally get activated?
In the meantime, I have to find a way to maintain my photos.
Sigh... Rant over. I'm not done pushing this. I'm on the phone with Amazon trying to get a duplicate receipt. So far, no luck....
Thanks in advance for sympathies or, even better, advice on how to proceed.

"I found that they doubt that I purchased it legally.
[...snip...]
I did NOT purchase from an auction site."
Did you purchase directly from Amazon, or from the Amazon Marketplace/3rd party?
Look at the Photoshop box & disk. Do you see the words "Printed in Singapore" anywhere on them? If you do you very likely have a bootleg and this may be why Adobe Support thinks you pirated it or bought an illegal copy. Even if you get it up and running, those bootleg copies have other problems associated with them where not all the tools and shortcuts work properly.
There have been some very authentic bootlegs produced and introduced into dependable inventory channels. Even some otherwise reputable dealers have been fooled...we've had other people here who've bought from Amazon and got caught out with a bootleg copy.
If you suspect that you have a bootlegged copy, contact the seller, and if they don't make good, report them to Adobe. You may want to report them to Adobe anyway, in an actual written/addressed/stamped letter sent through the post. Send a copy via email as well.

iTunes Store- Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer.http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
Or you can use a third-party utility such as Phone to Mac - Pod to Mac.

  • ITunes has a problem and they THINK it's me!

This has happened twice to me now.
Was on iTunes and never even clicked anywhere near Tony Bennent Christmas Album and BOOM! my computer starts downloading it and charging me for it. Went round and round with iTunes via email (no one to call) before they credited me back for it. They think it's my fault !
Then 2 days ago, the same thing happens. I am sampling a Kelly Clarkson iTunes Session song and BOOM! The whole dang album starts downloading. Now I'm upset and fire off another email.
This time they credit my account , but also DISABLE IT! LIKE I'M THE CRIMINAL HERE?
I have already decided to start using Amazon for all music until they get this fixed, but now I can't even get iTunes FREE offerings.
This only started after I bought the cloud.  That's all that has changed from a nearly flawless site that I have spent thousands of dollars on.  Now, POOF!  APPLE SCREWS UP AND RUINS IT!

I don't think it is Paul's fault. Apple has changed something. I never bought into the one click option. Whenever I would download an update or some such I would always have to re-enter my password. Also with new purchases. That behaviour changed recently (month or so ago). Now the downloads are automatic. So far just updates and a couple of recent (intended) purchases.
iTunes and devices now ask for my Apple password at start or near startup but I thought that was for iCloud syncing or maybe downloading apps purchased (free or not) on other devices. Apparently not.
I've reset the warnings. I'll have to see how that changes the way iTunes works.
OK, downloading free updates asked for my password in iTunes.

  • Problems transferring mail folders from eMac to Mac Mini

    Okay, so here’s the problem.
I just upgraded my boss - well, her computer, anyway - from an eMac running 10.2.8 to a Mini running 10.4.6. I am now having problems transferring mailboxes from the old computer to the new one. She is one of those people who have a couple of thousand messages in fifteen different mailboxes she’s created, so I really need to get them across to the new machine.
Here’s what happens when I try (both machines are ethernetted together)(if that’s a word). I open Mail (2.0.8) on the Mini, and go to ‘File’, then ‘Import Mailboxes’ (Mail on the old machine, if it matters, is 1.2.3). If I select ‘Mail for Mac OS X’, then ‘Continue’, I get the box asking for location. Select the eMac, go to ‘Users’, select the User’s folder, then ‘Library’, ‘Mail’, ‘Mailboxes’.
If I click on ‘Choose’ then, I get all of the mailboxes under ‘Items to Import’ as (for example) ‘inbox.mbox’. Click on ‘Continue’, and get a progress bar stating it is importing. It then tells me I can find them in the folder named ‘Import’ in the main Mail window. However, when I go to the ‘Import’ folder there are only three of the mailboxes, and they are all empty. No, I can’t figure out why just those three, since all of the boxes have mail in them. If I choose an individual mailbox folder I get the ‘No Valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found’ message. It will not allow me to choose the individual *.mbox files.
Okay, so if I follow the above path to the ‘Import Mailboxes’ dialog box, then select ‘Other’, and in the import box select ‘Mailboxes’ at the same location as above, I get one item to import, named ‘mbox’. Click on ‘Continue’, I get the progress bar, then the same message about the ‘Import’ folder.
But, once again, if I click on the ‘mbox’ folder under Imports it’s empty.
So I’m currently stuck. I could forward the old messages back to the same address, but frankly I consider that to be a silly enough idea that it might have been suggested by Microsoft. Does anyone have any ideas where I can go from here?
I apologize for the long windedness, but I’ve done tech support via email, and I personally always hated info-light messages like “My email keeps crashing. Why?” Please let me know if any of you need to know anything else. Thanks!
Mac Mini 1.5 Intel Core Solo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   I am currently whistling "On the Sunny Side of the Street"

"There are a couple of things you seem to be missing that might or might not have a bearing on your problems."
I'm not at all surprised. I've been missing things most of my life
"First, ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes is not the only place where mail is stored. You may want to also import the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver account folders."
Okay, that one sounds good... unfortunately, there's no joy so far. I've tried it importing as Mac OSX Mail. If I select the [email protected] folder, I get a checkbox for each of the folders, then a brief progress bar when I click 'Continue'. There is then only one of the folders I tried to import under the 'Import' folder, and it again appears to be empty. If I try selecting any of the individual mailboxes I get the 'No Valid Mail for Mac OSX Found' message.
I get a bit further using 'Other', but not a lot. Selecting the POP folder gives me two of the mailboxes (one labeled simply 'mbox') and 'Continue' another brief progress bar... but again empty mailboxes. Selecting the individual mailboxes give the same result.
"Second, when importing as Other, Mail wants you to select the folder that contains the mbox files to be imported. Hence, when choosing that option, you may want to try importing the *.mbox folders one at a time, rather than the entire ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes folder at once."
I was pretty certain I tried that, but I just went back and checked again to make certain. As above, I get a brief progress bar - then an empty, meaningless, nihilistic folder. Insert pseudo-intellectual 'staring into the abyss' line here.
I do have another thing I'm planning on trying. I was told I might be able to get better results if I booted the eMac into 'Firewire' mode so the Mini would just see it as a hard drive. I'll let you know if I get any results from that.
Thanks for your suggestions. Hopefully, this info will provide enough clues for you to facepalm and say "Of course! The obvious answer is..." And then fill in the ellipse, of course.
Those will work, or they won't. Either way, though, I appreciate your taking the time to think about this.

  • Certain MP3 Files not transfered because They Cannot Be Played on This iPod

I've been using iPods for awhile, and besides the usual iTunes for Windows glitches, I haven't had many problems. Yesterday I tried to transfer an album I had added to my iTunes library over to my iPod (will play in itunes, did not buy from Apple store, fits iPod codec requirements (256kbit MP3s)), and I recieved the message that the files will not be transfered because they cannot be played on this iPod. I tried updating everything, and then even reinstalling everything, and nothing worked. I cannot get these files that play perfectly in iTunes and other programs and fit the description of what works with an iPod to do just that, work with my iPod. Any suggestions?
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 1.92 GHz, 1GB RAM   Windows XP Pro

First make sure your iPod software is up to date, the latest is Updater 2006-03-23. you can get it at http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Also you may want to go here to follow some suggestions on songs that play in iTUnes and won't transfer to iPod http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93867
Play the songs in another player and see if there corrupt or something
You may want to try a thrid party program on the net to convert the files, or you could do a 2 step process of having Windows media player convert them to WMA files, then opening iTunes and having iTunes convert the files from WMA to MP3 or whatever format you have iTunes to Import files. this converting my degrade the sound slightly, but atleast you would be albe to add them to your iPod and you most likly won't notice THAT much of a difference

  • I have problems transferring files from PC to Mac and from Mac to Mac

I have problems transferring files from PC to Mac, and from Mac to Mac.  PC to PC is fine.  Nothing but problems with the Mac.  One example:
While working on my PC, I open shared folders on an external HDD connected to the Mac.  I click on paste to move the files.  I get an error after a few seconds to a minute of trying to move several files from my PC Win 7 to Mac OS Maverick, that there is a file already at the destination on Mac. This statement is true, but it was just put there because I am copying them over in that same action.  It reads 0Kb and wasn't there before I started.  Then I get an error: The Action Cannot be completed because the folder is open in another program.  Close the folder or file and try again..
Whether I click on it a bunch right of way or wait, it still takes about 45 seconds. I have to do it with every file and it only happens when copying from a PC to Mac.  I have even restarted both computers so nothing is using any files.  If I copy one file at a time, I don't get any error.
So I have one file to move, no problem.  If move 5 files, The first will go fine, but it shows all 5 files in folder at once.  All other files than the first show 0kb. I get the file already existing error once it starts the second file transfer, and I select move and replace.  Then I get The Action Cannot be completed because the folder is open in another program.  I wait or click repeatedly until it starts to move file.  That file will then show something other than 0kb.  When it is done, the error process starts all over.  I tried checking the PC with unlocker, but the files do not show themselves locked on the PC.

Its not only French. Even certain characters in English will come across as gobblydegook from 1 platform to another. I see this in emails that likely were composed in Word & the characters don't come across.
Not sure if this is still true, but years ago someone explained that there is a standard character set & then I think its extended characters & those vary from platform to platform or language to language, etc.

  • Problems transferring data from MacBook Pro to MacBook Pro

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and I am having problems transferring data from my old MacBook Pro. I am using an Apple Thunderbolt to FW adapter to hook both computers and I am using the Migration Assistant. Everything looked ok until the "Transferring Your Information" screen got stuck. It says that it is "Transferring your Application folder..." And it has been stuck for at least the last two hours giving a message that says "About 3 minutes remaining..." This is starting to get ridiculously annoying. Options?

I guess I am finding my own way as time progresses and frustration increases but these are two things that I have found so far:
    1. Transfering from one machine to another does not seem to be the most efficient way to do this so using the TimeMachine backup must be the way to go...
    HOWEVER
    2. In this process I also found another "complication" called: Legacy FaultVault - My computer is encripted and I used this now so called "Legacy FaultVault" app to do it (when it was no a Legacy!). The thing is that you can not transfer documents from your TimeMachine backup to your new Mac if the Legacy Fault Valut is active on your old machine so you first need to desactivate the encription. HOWEVER, this brought another issue...when I tried to desactivate the encription using the Legacy FaultVault screen I got a message saying that I did not have enough disk space to allow me to do that....Isn't that great??? This is a problem by itself and it seems to have some sort of solution I was reading about (not straight forward at all). What I am trying to do now is to copy the folder that contains my files and just paste them on my new machine to see if that works....it looks like my apps are on my new machine, unsure if they are working...need to test this next....
I guess the transfer machine to machine could have sorted out the conflict eventually...after tens of hours or maybe not! Who knows....
    A very frustrated Apple fan...
I love Apple products but this is an ISSUE...I feel like there is lack of adecuate documentation around to deal with this or the data transfering apps should be able to deal with this on a more efficient way....just saying...

  • I'm having problems with videos, they shake and the images break up back and forth into striped colors, how do I fix this?

I'm having problems with videos, they shake and the images break up back and forth into striped colors, how do I fix this?

    1) This is because of software version 1.1. See this
thread for some options as to how to go back to 1.0,
    which will correct the problem...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=3754
    59&tstart=0
    2) This tends to happen after videos. Give the iPod a
minute or two to readjust. It should now be more
    accurate.
    3) This?
iPod shows a folder icon with exclamation
    point
    4) Restore the iPod
    5) Try these...
iPod Only Shows An Apple Logo and Will Not Start
    Up
iPod Only Shows An Apple Logo
I think 3,4, and 5 are related. Try the options I
    posted for each one.
    btabz
I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. Hope my iPod stays healthy, if it doesnt its a warrenty job me thinks any way thanks again

  • Transfering Licenses - Student to Commercial to New Owner?

I understand that licnses are not transferable if they are student/teacher versions.
    Here is my situation:
I have originally bought a copy of a Adobe design suite at the student/teacher price. Since then I have moved on from my student/teacher elegibility and have upgraded to newer commercial versions.
QUESTION: Is the license elegible for transfer now that I have moved on?
Basically my conclusion is that if I ever plan to start or sell a business I should never, under any situation, buy a student version regardless of immediate gains by taking advantage of sturdent/teacher pricing. If I sell a computer with programs, forget it because ONLY the upgrade is transferable? Meaning the tranferee must have a commercial copy in order to take advantage of the transferable upgrade only. --- If the tranferee does not have a commercial version, the sale and value is pointless because ownership is thrown out the window because I bought a student copy.
Whats going on? Am I stupid or is this correct? How does this work and what are any and all caveats? I'm a bit new to this. Especially Adobe's convoluted pricing schemes that oddly favor bathroom janitors and wasteful school administrators over folks who legitimately need Adobe software to make a living.

What version was the student version? What version did you upgrade to?

One of the problems I see is that schools and
colleges do not seem to teachActually, you can stop right here and say it all.
With regards to programming, they don't teach
anything.:-) A slightly more cynical view than mine!

  • Problems transferring video to pc on the 6790

I am having problems transferring video from my phone to my laptop.  I downloaded the PC Suite and had no problems with my pics, but the video won't play once it transfers to my laptop.  Any ideas on what I need to do to get them to play?

What program are you using to play the files on your computer?
The procedure should actually be the same, connect via data transfer and drag and drop is the simplest for me.
Do the videos play while they are still on your memory card by any chance

  • Problems transfering itunes library to a netbook

I've been having problems transfering the library to a new netbook. I'm using itunes 9 I have used an external harddrive, the music files are on the netbook. Itunes can load them into my library but they are only organised in separate songs by artist I cant organise them in a grid or cover flow.I would prefer them in the Music library can anyone assist please?

You can't the iTunes is compensating for the screen resolution (This is an improvement since there was a time when you couldn't install it at all.) :
*Screen resolution of 1024x768 or greater; 1280x800 or greater is required to play an iTunes LP or iTunes Extras*
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
This is likely to change with the next iTunes update so it's a temporary hassle.
