Unresponsive flash (see also /questions/970014)

Any solution to this shockwave/firefox problem that so many people are having? been happening for weeks, i think I'll stop using this browser if mozilla doesn't come up with a fix

Maybe you will just have to use another browser such as Google Chrome when you need to watch Flash Player content. There is normally no problem using more than one browser on a computer.
No doubt you read through the other thread [/questions/970014] and will have tried the suggestions there. By the way the protected mode Flash Problem does not apply with Window XP, so at least that is one problem you need not contend with.
This sort of problem seems to affect some people and not others. Filing a bug with Adobe the FlashPlayer developers may be worth a try or even filing a bug with Firefox developers. I am wondering what you see exactly and how easy it is to reproduce. For instance if you go to a named Flash Player content does it always become unresponsive almost immediately or is it more of an intermittent problem, and what if any error messages do you see.
You appear to be on Firefox 23 and should try letting Firefox update to Firefox 24. In fact I would be tempted to suggest if you get Flash hangs or crashes that it would be worth trying installing Firefox Aurora as an additional browser because that has a new experimental reporter on it that specifically addresses existing problems with FlashPLayer reports.
Clutching at straws, rather but
* I do note you have both Shockwave director and Flash Player installed. Try uninstalling Shockwave Director, you possibly have no need to have that installed does that help ?

  • Shockwave Plugin Unresponsive - Flash and Firefox up to date.

Flash has been unresponsive and crashing all day, well over 30 times just today. The problem just started this morning. The error message I get is that the Shockwave plugin is unresponsive or busy. I haven't installed anything new in weeks. I cannot access any website where flash is required without it crashing after a few moments, moreso with videos. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling three times- as stated in the title, both Firefox and Flash are up to date. Mozilla doesn't find any new required updates on the plugin page.
I am unable to click on settings after right clicking on any flash application (if it lets me get that far)- and that just sends it into another hang. Therefore, I am unable to deaccelerate the hardware, which I've seen as a popular solution. Flash also doesn't work on Chrome or IE because it crashes similarly.
These are the last 5 crash reports.

Please, help! I know that flash is the problem, because when it's uninstalled Firefox runs fine. I've uninstalled RealPlayer and any known problems with flash plugins. No matter what I do I'm stuck.

Hi 7246291, unfortunately that hang signature is linked to several different bugs without a clear path to a solution. If you already ran through the checklist of mitigations*, my only other suggestion would be to switch Flash to "click to play" so that you can control when it is used.
You can do that on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Then set Shockwave Flash to "Ask to Activate". On sites that use Flash, any visible Flash region should get a click to play message, or you can use the "Lego-like" icon that will appear in the address bar.
    ''* Mitigations:''
    (1) If you have any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.
    (2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    (B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
    (3) Disable the protected mode feature of the Flash Player plugin (Windows Vista and higher)

  • Flashing Folder and Question Mark, no installation disc

Yesterday, Safari froze up while I was it which I have never had happen before. So, I manually shut my Macbook off and tried to restart. When I did so, I received a gray screen with a flashing folder and question mark. From my research, I have found that usually this means that my laptop can't find the operating system and this issue can usually be resolved by inserting the installation disc. Problem is, I bought my Macbook secondhand and never got an installation disc. Does anyone know of a way around this issue? Or if buying the Snow Leopard upgrade for $30 instead of buying a whole new package for about a hundred dollars more might resolve this issue?
    Thanks so much,
    Kristin

Yes, quite a quandary. You have some options:
    1. Call AppleCare and ask for customer support. You can order replacement discs for the model you have.
    2. Purchase an OS X retail installer suitable for your model, like Snow Leopard, that you can use to determine if you can repair the hard drive or will nee to reinstall OS X. If the latter and you are using Snow Leopard, then you just install it. The installer will determine whether to upgrade or not automatically. As long as your drive is OK Snow Leopard will not erase the drive so all your files are safe. If you use an earlier version of OS X then you want to choose the Archive and Install option. See the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • IMac 3.06 (Flashing folder with question mark)

    Hi All
Unfortunately this is the second time I have posted about this problem.
First of all my iMac froze and on restart I got the flashing folder with the question mark. However thankfully after 3 restarts the problem appeared to resolve itself. But I still thought it was a little suspicious.
2 days later, my MackBook suffered the same problem, froze up and on restart I got the flashing folder with the question mark. After much effort and advice (see previous question) I unfortunately had to get a new HD installed. $274 for new 160GB, not too bad but just hadnt backed up so lost a lot of data.
Today, approximately 2 more days later my iMac froze again and got the flashing folder with the question mark, but this time it took a very long time to resolve itself. I was beginning to think that it was going to be another trip to the apple shop. Obviously this time I had done a recent backup, so it wouldnt have been a huge problem (apart from financially), just starting to trouble me.
Once I got the iMac up and running again, I went to Disk Utility and ran "verify" on hard disk. Result = no apparent problems. Any suggestions why this is happening, steps I should take to prevent it from happening, what could be causing it? Both computers are relatively new, only approx 10 - 20 GB of data on each, very little interaction between the two. There is another MacBookpro in the household but it has not suffered any problems. Am I getting paranoid? I fear that this is not the last I see of this problem!!

Which iMac do you have? I take it you are no longer under warranty? If your iMac is over a year old you probably need to clean the air intake vents out because dust does build up over time and could cause your Mac to run hotter than normal. You can install iStat Pro to monitor the temperatures and fan speeds: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20364
You could use a Utility Application to test the drive for bad blocks but that does not help prevent drive failure. There really is not much you can do but to make sure the drive doesn't get too hot. You might install SMART Utility and see if it shows any errors: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/24875/smart-utility
You should also run Apple Hardware Test to make sure that nothing else is wrong with your computer. Run the Extended Test. If that passes with no problems then it's most likely just a bad hard drive and you can have it replaced anytime. You don't have to wait for it to completely die.

  • See Also Instruction Sought

Although I have read the help file, I must be missing
something. I am trying to add see also groupings for my topic. So
far I have created the see also control, I have added a see also
text? to the topic properties tab but I have been unable to
determine how to link the item I listed as the see also to a
    particular topic.
I know i have had a fair number of questions, I am new to
this software after a year or two away without ever having has much
experience to begin with. I appreciate your patience and thank you
    in advance for your help.

    Hi all
Perhaps I might offer some insight here. I see that Colum
correctly indicated the basic steps, but there seems to be a bit of
confusion. I think I may know why.
Here are my own basic steps.
    1. Create See Also keywords
    2. Assign them to topics
    3. Insert See Also controls that point to the keywords
Here is where you are probably confused. How exactly to
define and assign the See Also keywords. You should be doing this
using the Index designer. So click the Index tab (hoping here you
are using version 6 or older-please advise if you are using 7, as
the process may be a tad different and need further explanation)
From the Index tab, look at the top of the Index designer and
you see a drop-down that you click and have two choices. Index and
See Also. If you choose See Also, the main part of the Index
designer changes. Once there, you add See Also keywords. You then
display the Topic list on the right side and drag desired topics
from the list on the right, into the Topics For area at the bottom
    of the See Also designer.
After you do this, your See Also control insertion should be
    pretty straightforward.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • See Also Style

    I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I can't seem to
change the style of the "See Also" text in the See Also control. I
want it to be consistent with the link style in my help project.
    Thanks!

    Hi WriterBen and Colum
Ben, Colum correctly told you how to accomplish this. But I
have one little tidbit to add.
If you insert more than one "See Also" control on a page, you
will need to be careful about what you do with the script. RoboHelp
HTML normally names the first instance "SeeAlso". But subsequent
instances are named differently. And the exact name used will
depend on how that control is inserted.
If you are inserting them via the menu - Insert > See
    Also...
The second will normally be named OBJECT1
The third will normally be named OBJECT2 and so on
If you are inserting them via Copy/Paste
The second will normally be named object1
The third will normally be named object2 and so on
I bring this up because JavaScript gets totally persnickety
with these names. Object1, OBJECT1 and object1 are three different
names to JavaScript. So you need to pay close attention to what
they are named and use the correct name when you type the
    JavaScript code. javascript:SeeAlso.Click(); then becomes
    javascript:OBJECT1.Click(); or javascript:object1.Click();
    Happy Friday all... Rick

  • See Also popup menu not working

This had been posted before, but my situation is slightly
    different.
I have 2 See Also text hyperlinks and one Releated Topics
text hyperlink on each topic in my online help.
All are set to dislay topics in a popup menu.
The help is being generated to HTML help.
Once generated, one of the See Also hyperlinks displays in a

The other See Also and the Related Topics hyperlinks are

    LoanPerformance

    Hi Michael
When you insert controls, if you look behind the scenes using
the TrueCode tab, you should see that RoboHelp HTML inserts two
distinctly different blocks of code. One is called a "design-time"
control and is displayed in green text. The other is the basic code
used by the HTML Help compiler. This section is displayed in gray
text. So you have two places to look for this setting. I'm only
referring to See Also controls here.
In the "green code" area should be a line that reads:
    <param name="DialogDisplay" value="1" >
If the value is 1, the control produces a popup. If the value
is 0, you get a topics found dialog.
In the "gray code" area should be a line that reads:
    <PARAM NAME="Command" VALUE="ALink,MENU">
If the value is Alink,MENU, the control produces a popup. If
the value is Alink, you get a topics found dialog.
Also, I just noticed you posted this identical question in
the RoboHelp for HTML Help forum category. Please don't cross post!

  • Roles in OAM - plus help get "See Also" back to original?

    Hi,
I was investigating creating a new role in OAM, and found the following:
Re: How to create Role in COREid 7.0.4
So, I tested per the posts there, setting the Display Type for the SeeAlso attribute to Object Selector.
Sure enough, then when I went to attribute access control, the "See Also" role appeared as a checkbox.
    Ok so far.
What that thread doesn't explain is once I've configured the SeeAlso attribute and the "See Also" role, how do I assign that "See Also" role to an individual user?
    Does anyone know?
Now, I want to get the SeeAlso attribute back to its original condition, with Semantic Type of "None" and Display Type of "None" (in "Modify Attributes"), but I can't :(!!
When I try to Save, I get a popup:
"Display Name and Display Type are required input!"
Can anyone tell me how I can get SeeAlso back to its original condition?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi,
I think that I've figured out the first question, i.e., "how do I assign" a role to an individual user.
Basically, if I go into a user profile, and click on "Select" for my "See Also" role, and then select a different user (e.g., user10), then user "user10" takes on the "See Also" role. I can then (for example) check the "modify" for the "See Also" role for an attribute like BusinessCategory for user "user1" in attribute access control, and then "user10" has the right to modify the BusinessCategory attribute for "user1".
On my 2nd question, I still haven't figured out how to set the SeeAlso attribute back to its original condition (i.e., remove the "See Also" role). If anyone knows how to do this, please post.
    Thanks,
    Jim

  • Display of Search Results - Repositioning the "See Also" Command

    Hello guys
Does any of you know if it is possible to move the "See Also"-command? Normally the command would be displayed here under "Commands" next to the heading:
    Icon      - Heading - Commands
    Relevancy - Descr.
Rating    - Properties (like modifiedby, contentlength etc.)
See also this documentation for further description: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/fd/fe573d675e910fe10000000a114084/frameset.htm.
    Now the question:
I would like to display one single command (See Also) as the last property, which will make the search result look like this:
    Icon      - Heading
    Relevancy - Description
Rating    - Properties (like modifiedby, contentlength AND See Also)
Is it possible to dislay the command here? And if it is possible, how do I display the command here? Should I enter something like "rnd:see_also_extern" in the Search Result Renderer Settings?
    Any help will be rewarded
    Regards,
    Martin

    Hello Prakash
Thank you very much, it solved my problem! Ten points.
As a side question: I noticed that it is not possible to change the text style of the command using "/secondaryTextStyle". Do you know about another way to change the text style? Or is changing the text style of commands and displayname not a part of FlexUI?
