  • Completed all Troubleshooting steps but continue to get slow downs from unresponsive scripts on Firefox. Is there a way to use my browser w/out slow downs?

    Mac OSX.
I've gone through the list of troubleshooting tips for slow downs and for unresponsive scripts. I continue to get slow downs to my computer and browser when I use my Firefox. It is becoming so bad that sometimes I cannot get work done.

And now, I think I've identified part of the issue. When you pin tabs as an app tab, this slows down Firefox in all the ways I mentioned. Please, please Firefox, if you are going to offer such a useful and simple thing, make sure that it works...
Having closed these App Tabs, I had a temporary break from the slow downs... Then after another few minutes, the slow downs in Firefox continued... At my wits end.

  • What the heck?????    unresponsive script in firefox  CAN'T do ANYTHING!

This is silly..... I clicked on site, when I tried to save a photo FIREFOX reads: Warning: Unresponsive Script A script on this page may be busy or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script: chrome://browser/content/browser.js:8212
I was trying to save a photo. So the Save Image dialogue frozen, too.... I can't restart my computer until I shut down firefox, but I can't do anything to click off the warning or the save image dialogue! I am on safari at the moment. Anyone have a fix for this? Driving me nuts! This is a new MBP and I thought MBP's never had these type of problems!

Almost no chance it was a virus. Probably just one of those things. What version of Firefox are you using? If it happens again on the same image, you could just do a screen shot (command-shift-4 and drag the area you want to capture), or there are image capture utilities available, some free.

  • Unresponsive scripts make firefox freeze or crash using gmail

Accessing emails on gmail, firefox regularly slows down or crashes giving error messages like the one below in the process.
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script: chrome://wrc/content/common/scripts/bal.js:1172

  • Every time I donwload anything, I get an unresponsive script.

Since installing Lion OSX, every time I download anything, I get an unresponsive script.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Still getting "unresponsive script"

I have changed the value of dom.max_script_run_time to 1000 and *still* I get "unresponsive script" notices.
The only time it ever happens is when I am downloading something, and take a moment to create a new folder to hold the new item.
Then, because there are now 2 dialogs wanting a response (the save box, and the 'unresponsive script' box) Firefox locks up and I cannot click either of the buttons.
So then I have to do a Force Quit and reopen Firefox.
Even with a value of 1000 (seconds?) it always interrupts at about the same time as the default value.
All the Firefox KB suggests is that if changing the value doesn't help, then set it back to the original value - while giving no further suggestions as to how to prevent it happening again.

I've been using the file picker for years without problem - it's annoying to have that feature whipped out from under me.
What other application is there that won't give you time to create a folder on the fly?
The suggestion to create folders first is a *backwards* step. Sure, it's the only practical answer in the meantime, but I'd already figured that out.
Does no-one have an answer for killing that warning?

  • Firefox initally opens fine , but when I try to open another tab Firefox hangs or I get an unresponsive script message

firefox initally opens fine right to my homepage. Then a few minutes later it starts hanging and I cannot scroll or do anything until it connects. Similarly when I try to open a new tab, the new tab either hangs forever, or I get an unresponsive script error message. I have tried resetting firefox and starting firefox in safe mode. nothing seems to help.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • Why is firefox crashing or closing on its own, I get plug-in crashes and unresponsive script warnings?

Firefox is closing on its own or crashing for no reason. I've put in at least 4 crash reports a day. I'm also getting plug-in crashes and have sent those reports in. Also, I'm getting lots of unresponsive script warning messages. At first I thought it was Facebook but it is now doing it on GMail so is it Firefox?

I am not sure I did this right. This is what I did: right-mouse clicked on the desktop, whent to properties, went to display properties, went to settings, clicked on advanced tab, and then clicked on troubleshooting tab. There I drug the hardware acceleration slider to the left to disable it, clicked ok twice as directed, restarted the computer and then I couldn't get firefox to open at all, but I went to internet explorer and got on you tube and tried to watch a video, but it crashed again.
So I don't think that worked. I couldn't figure out how to disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin, but did it on the desktop instead. Are there different steps I need to take to accomplish this?
    Thank you!

  • Firefox stops responding showing unresponsive script error at tabbrowser.xml line 2255

When firefox is started it gives error regarding unresponsive script at
    chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:2255 since last few days.
    Earlier it was working fine
It just shows firefox quick launch lightened up and then fades down and after lots of time screen shows asking for firefox proxy setting. Later on after much trial and error entering proxy settings no window is displayed and firefox. Since I am not able to open firefox, even closing is required to be done by killing process through windows troubleshooting information. Will try if possible later

  • Downloading 4.0 onto XP it takes a long conection process, with boxes on unresponsive script and a java scipt app saying type error and is all very annoying so what can I do I want the old firefox back a

I downloaded Firefox 4.0 replacing an earlier Firefox version. I have XP on my computer. When I now click on the Firefox icon after a time a window saying Unresponsive script and underneath script chrome etc comes up. I then press stop script and another window comes up Java Script application and type error. Eventually I get on to the internet but it's all very frustrating. I wish I had ignored the request to download 4.0
    Please help

I can assure you that the sympton is indeed identical. For as the computer got worse, eventually it refused to start up and made 3 beeps. It has done this before, but today more times than before (just like when it first had this problem). Where-ever you go on the internet, it will tell you that the 3 beeps suggest the RAM is at fault. So, the same 3 beeps, means the same problem, which is the RAM.
With that in mind, I re-ask my question with the same reasoning and justification; am I still covered under warranty? (Reasoning/Justification: Considering the original problem was not entirely fixed, though something else was to make the MacBook Pro last a little longer before the reoccurance of this problem).

  • Firefox often slow, not responding and showing unresponsive script errors.

In the last few weeks, firefox has often gone unresponsive, usually shown as 'not responding.' This lasts anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes (possibly longer, but by that amount of time I loose patience and 'end task' in task manager.) This is usually followed by an 'unresponsive script' error. Which script it is varies. I've been responding by clicking 'stop script,' which usually fixes the problem temporarily.
The problem seems to occur mostly randomly, but will predictably always occur on site with videos like youtube. Here it is also worse, taking much longer to resolve if it does at all. I've got flashblock active, and sometimes the error will occur before I get a chance to activate the video and sometimes after, but will always occur. Also, on this sort of site, the 'unresponsive script' error will also go unresponsive most of the time, which I've not seen anywhere else, meaning that the only solution, after a while is to end the process in task manager. I've at times attempted to play the same video for half an hour with no success.
As I've therefore spent a fair bit of time in task manager, I've noticed that I end up with many processes running for FlashPlayerPlugin_15_0_0_152.exe*32 (Description: Adobe Flash Player 15.0 r0.) They build up the more I use firefox, but go away when I restart my computer. I've gotten up to at least 50 at one point. Most use 128 or 124 K of memory, but about 1 in 7 uses between 1-5000 K. I don't know if this is linked to the above issues, but I've only noticed it since it started.
I've tried resetting firefox and it changed none of the above.
If it helps, I used Windows 7. Feel free to ask for any more details about my system and I will do my best to answer, though I'm not an expert in computers. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Thanks for the advice. What solved it was disabling all addons and then restarting the computer. I've since reenabled Adblock (2.6.4) and Flashblock (1.5.17) without causing the problem to reemerge, leaving Troubleshooter (1.1a) as my only previously enabled addon I've not reenabled. I am no longer experiencing the issue.
Regarding updating to version 32, I tried this, but the official site told me I already had the most up to date version of firefox for some reason. Normally, it updates automatically. However, as my issue has been solved I don't consider this a problem.
Thank you very much for your advice.

  • I get the error message "unresponsive script" when I try to open Firefox, and then I can only delete the message by going to Task Manager.

After I downloaded the Firefox update, when I tried to open Firefox I got the error message: "Warning unresponsive script...etc". This happens every time and the choices in the message ("continue" etc) are unresponsive. Further I can't delete the error window without going to Task Manager to end the program. The problem also disabled Internet Explorer which will now simply not load. Google Chrome is working. I assume it relates to the update since the problems (for both Firefox and IE) occurred immediately after the download.

  • Unresponsive Script errors popups in Firefox 14.01

Since upgrading from Firefox 13.01 to 14.01, Firefox is taking a long time to launch and I am receiving multiple unresonsive script error popups when it tries to launch. I have the same extensions installed that I had in 13.01 and all are compatible with 14.01. Again this issue ONLY started when upgrading to 14.01. I have tried to determine what extension is the problem and turn it off, however when I launch Firefox again, another unresonsive script error popup occurs with a different extension. I'll remove that one and it popups again about a another different one. This is crazy! I have even tried a complete clean install, with no luck. What is the problem?

I use Roboform and the first unresponsive script error popup is about Roboform. Their tech support just emailed me about an hour ago and ask if I had Trusteer Rapport installed on my system (https://www.trusteer.com/product/trusteer-rapport) and I said yes. They instructed me to Stop Rapport, which is a setting Rapport has, and relaunch Firefox 14.01 and see if the unresponsive script error popup returns and it did not! They then told me to do a complete uninstall (all user settings) and re-download Trusteer Rapport from their website and install again and see if the unresponsive script error popup returns. They said it should not. However after doing a clean reinstall of Trusteer Rapport, however the popups came back :(
I emailed Trusteer about this issue and I am waiting for a response. Roboform tech support responded after I told them it did not work by saying only that they are aware of the issue with Trusteer Rapport with nothing more said in their email.
I only know that Trusteer Rapport is a MUST HAVE security software and I have had it for years and it has never caused problems and that the version of Roboform I have is current and was the SAME version that was installed when using Firefox 13.01 and Roboform did not cause these popups in 13.01
So, this evening, I did another clean uninstall of Trusteer Rapport AND a clean uninstall of Roboform and relaunched Firefox 14.01 and the only unresponsive script error popups where from another add-on extension called WorldIP. No other popups occurred.
With that being said, I can say that Firefox 14.01 is causing issues and this needs to be fixed asap.
    Thoughts?

  • "Warning: Unresponsive script" message and Firefox v16+

I recently upgraded to v16, and then v17. In both cases I repeatedly received the dreaded "Warning: Unresponsive script" message, so frequently that the browser became unusable.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/warning-unresponsive-script
I reverted to v15 and now I NEVER get the "Warning: Unresponsive script" message anymore
