Unresponsive scripts make firefox freeze or crash using gmail

Accessing emails on gmail, firefox regularly slows down or crashes giving error messages like the one below in the process.
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Script: chrome://wrc/content/common/scripts/bal.js:1172

This looks like a problem with Avast! Online Security ([email protected])

  • New v11.5 makes Firefox freeze: Is there a remedy?

Blithely downloaded v11.5 today.  Opened my regular bridge application in Firefox, bbo (bridgebase.com) and the Flash player froze Firefox (v 16.0.2).  I'm on Vista Premiium.
Ctrl+Alt+Del said Flash Player was using 90-100% of my cpu.
I uninstalled v11.5, found v10.3 at the adobe site, reinstalled that, and everything's working.
Surprised v11.5 wasn't tested to avoid such a problem.  Anyone know a remedy?
    alanpmcd

    (1) I've already, some time ago after previous Flash problems, taken
step 1 in the trouble-shooting, i.e. disabled Real Player Record plugin
    (2) I've removed v11.5 to install v10.3.   This morning (uk time) I
can't seem to get back to download v11.5.  Every route I take to
download takes me to v10.3.  And this version makes my bridge work
So for the moment I'm happy, though I'd be glad to try more
troubleshooting if you can tell me how to get to download v11.5.

  • Completed all Troubleshooting steps but continue to get slow downs from unresponsive scripts on Firefox. Is there a way to use my browser w/out slow downs?

    Mac OSX.
I've gone through the list of troubleshooting tips for slow downs and for unresponsive scripts. I continue to get slow downs to my computer and browser when I use my Firefox. It is becoming so bad that sometimes I cannot get work done.

And now, I think I've identified part of the issue. When you pin tabs as an app tab, this slows down Firefox in all the ways I mentioned. Please, please Firefox, if you are going to offer such a useful and simple thing, make sure that it works...
Having closed these App Tabs, I had a temporary break from the slow downs... Then after another few minutes, the slow downs in Firefox continued... At my wits end.

  • What the heck?????    unresponsive script in firefox  CAN'T do ANYTHING!

This is silly..... I clicked on site, when I tried to save a photo FIREFOX reads: Warning: Unresponsive Script A script on this page may be busy or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script: chrome://browser/content/browser.js:8212
I was trying to save a photo. So the Save Image dialogue frozen, too.... I can't restart my computer until I shut down firefox, but I can't do anything to click off the warning or the save image dialogue! I am on safari at the moment. Anyone have a fix for this? Driving me nuts! This is a new MBP and I thought MBP's never had these type of problems!

Almost no chance it was a virus. Probably just one of those things. What version of Firefox are you using? If it happens again on the same image, you could just do a screen shot (command-shift-4 and drag the area you want to capture), or there are image capture utilities available, some free.

  • Exchange server mail makes iphone freeze and crash

Hi, i bought my iphone last July and everything has been fine with it until a couple of months ago it started freezing and crashing. i tried restoring it to factory settings, sent it to Apple and they replaced it but it still happens!! it happens every 1-2 days, it crashes, freezes, restarts itself. I'll go to use it and its frozen so i have to reset it. I've overslept a few times when it's frozen over night and the alarm hasnt gone off! its completely fine when its not syncing my mail though.
I connect to my work's exchange server and sync mail, contacts and calender. I found that when i stop syncing the mail, the phone is fine, but i need to check my mail for work.
so ive had 2 phones and restored it a few times and it still does it!
    help please?

When you restored your iPhone, did you restore from your iPhone's backup, or as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup?
Did you transfer your iPhone's backup to the iPhone you received as an exchange under warranty?
If there is a problem with your iPhone's backup, restoring from the backup will also restore the problem.

Firefox has been continually crashing for the past 2 months. It will freeze and hang up and then crash. it is not any one website that causes it. I am up to date with all plugins and updates.

  • Running latest version of Firefox on latest release of Ubuntu. When launched Firefox freezes. Am using wifi. Wifi works because it downloads updates fine.

I have a new build of Ubuntu latest release 11.10. When I launch Firefox it seems to freeze. Ubuntu still works it's just Firefox that is not reponding. It just stays in the mode of trying to load the homepage. None of the toolbar options are accessible at this point. I am connecting to router using wifi. The wifi works since I am able to download Ubuntu updates.

Your UserAgent string in Firefox is messed up by another program that you installed.
type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and hit Enter <br />
''If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.'' <br />
    Filter = '''general.useragent.extra.firefox''' <br />
Right-click that preference and select '''Reset''' <br />
    Then restart Firefox

  • Why does Firefox freeze and/crash shortly after I install "updates"?

Recently, after I have installed a newer version of Firefox, or updates you have provided my system freezes, won't open sites I access. This also affects my e-mail accounts!
It's almost enough to make me reluctantly revert to Ineternet Explorer.'''bold text'''

Does it help if you disable the plugin-container process?

  • I cant get Firefox to download any files including updates. I get an error saying "Windows has closed the filepicker unexpectedly" and Firefox freezes. I use Windows 7 64 bit and I have the error in Firefox 7. Any help much appreciated.

At any attempt to download even update I get an error that says "Windows has unexpectedly closed the file picker".

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

If you have submitted Breakpad crash reports then post the IDs of one or more Breakpad crash reports (bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx). You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page. You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.

  • Firefox freezes up when using facebook

computer freezing up when in facebook
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://facebook.com

To fix computer freezes or facebook freezes problem, follow these guidelines to fix it:
    * First, small size of RAM makes computer slow.
    * Secondly, corrupt windows registry causes freezing in computer.
    * The third most important thing that you can do to optimize your Facebook is to optimize your internet connection.
    * So it is recommended you use a system utilities software that provides the feature of internet optimizer.
    * Also remove unwanted add-ons/extensions from your browser.
    * It is also recommended to clean system junk and browsers junk.
The above guidelines allow you to Avoid Facebook Freezing and keep your Windows properly maintained.
I got some help from this article to avoid '''[http://ezinearticles.com/?Facebook-Freezes---Why-Does-Facebook-Freeze?-And-How-to-Fix-It&id=3978935 Facebook Freezes]'''.

  • Firefox freezes when I use the bookmarks toolbar.

Since about a week ago, every so often when I click on a bookmark on my toolbar then Firefox will freeze for about a minute before returning to normal.
This happens about every fifth or sixth time I use the bookmarks toolbar and happens both when I left and right click on a link.
It's really annoying - is there anything I can do to stop this?

I am having the same issue, using Firefox 6.02 on a Mac. This is making Firefox almost unusable, please someone needs to find a fix!

  • Does installing AOL edition of Firefox make Firefox the internal browser used by AOL instead of IE or is it just a customised stand alone version of Firefox?

I have an AOL account and access this via AOL's software front end for email and account management etc.
The AOL software either includes an embedded version of Internet Explorer, or links into the installed version of IE on the PC, never have been quite sure which but, whichever, it does integrate with the AOL software.
However, Firefox is my standalone browser of choice and a pop up has just offered me an "AOL version" of Firefox.
It's not made clear though whether this would actually replace IE as AOL's "internal" browser, which would be great, or just add the AOL tool bar etc to my normal standalone version of Firefox, which I wouldn't want anyway.
I was always under the impression that IE was embedded in AOL and I was stuck with it, at least internally to AOL's own software, but I guess there's no harm in hoping:-)

Many thanks for the reply, I came to very much the same conclusion, even though it didn't make much sense to me to be offered an AOL "version" of Firefox that would default to the "normal" version I'd already got if I deselected the AOL toolbar etc.
I should probably just try it for myself, but I wasn't sure how old the AOL version was and I've already had problems recently with IE hijacking some Firefox functions so was more inclined to leave well alone.
I think I'll just stick with that and quit while I'm ahead:-)

  • Inline SVG files (even very small ones) make FF19 freeze and crash

every time I open this page http://mincovlaw.com/interest/calculate (or many others that contain an SVG object), FF19 freezes on me under Win7.
This is how the SVG is embedded:
    <object data="/images/logo/logoblack.svg" type="image/svg+xml" style='width:300px; height:40px;margin-bottom:15px;' alt="MINCOV LAW CORPORATION - Outside The Box Legal Solutions" title="MINCOV LAW CORPORATION - Outside The Box Legal Solutions"></object>
Is there a way to fix this?

I downgraded to FF18.0.2 and it looks like the problem went away.
The reason I want to have this as a large svg is because this page gets printed out a lot, so I want it to look sharp.

  • I am getting this unresponsive script message when googling and its causing firefox to freeze "chrome:/wrc/content/common/scripts/bal.js:854" - Any advice?

When I try an google certain web sites including "NFL" firefox freezes and I get the unresponsive script chrome:/wrc/content/common/scripts/bal.js:854". I uninstalled Google Chrome but still have the same problem.

Thanks to philipp: I disabled the avast addon (from) when I updated to avast 9.0.2008, and the unresponsive script has stopped freezing firefox during google searches.
PS, I added this addon in it's place, Trustwave SecureBrowsing: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/m86security-secure-browsing/eula/224305?src=search
It's not too bad, and seems to be more thorough than the avast addon.
I also use the web of trust (WOT) addon.
