Unsble to connect 2 laptops wirelessly to Rouger wrt54GS

If one laptop connects then the other won't. It seems only one can connect at once. I tried disabling encryption and no go, tried dhcp on and off and assigning ip manually an no go. If one is connected, the other will not connected.
Upgraded firmware and same thing... Any idea ??

It seems that your having problem on your IP address assignment. Your laptops are both using "obtain an IP address automatically" that why you cannot use your wireless internet at the same time using your two laptops. try to configure the WLAN settings on your laptops and assign different IP for both of them... your routers IP address is 192.168.1.1 by default setting of your router... try to assign your first laptop's IP to 192.168.1.2 and the other is 192.168.1.3 both of your laptops will use the same "subnet mask: 255.255.255.0", "default gateway: 192.168.1.1" and "prefered DNS server:192.168.1.1" this will  irradicate the conflict on your connectivity...

  • Connecting XP laptop wirelessly to AEBS

    Hi,
I'm having trouble connecting my laptop running Windows XP to an AEBS that connects well to my iMac desktop (via ethernet cable) and my Powerbook laptop (wirelessly).
I've been able to get a signal with full strength using WPA2 Personal from the AEBS, and using WPA-PSK and TKIP on my XP machine, but still can't connect to the internet.
I tried following the directions on iFelix, and switching over to WEP but was still not successful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Milo

See if it is an encryption issue, turn off all encryption temporarily and see if you can now connect.
This will determine if it is an encryption issue or something else.
Does the XP laptop get a valid IP address or is it a self-assigned address as in 169.x.x.x or similar?

  • Unable to connect on laptop wirelessly

I can't connect to the internet on my laptop but I'm able to when I don't turn on any wireless security. When I set as WPA/WPA2 security then I can't connect to my network on my laptop wirelessly. I'm using a WRT160n v3 linksys router.
Message Edited by klyy on 01-02-2010 04:01 PM

If you are using Win XP, you will need SP3 to run WPA2  ( = WPA with AES).   Vista already runs WPA2.
Next, in the router, give your network a new unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". Do not use your old SSID.  If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Next, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys".  Delete any network with your old SSID.  Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Then enter your new network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  Your computer should connect automatically to your router (it can take up to 2 minutes).  If you still have trouble, temporarily turn off your computer software firewall and try again to connect.
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your computer's wireless adapter.
Some users have reported improved wireless performance by switching to WPA encryption.
    Note:
For WEP, enter WEP "key 1"  (found in the router)  into your computer, not the WEP password or passphrase.
For WPA or WPA2, enter the key (sometimes called password or passphrase)  into your computer.

  • Can no longer connect to internet wirelessly with Linksys WRT54G...

    Hi, all...
I'm at my father-in-law's house. His home network setup is as follows:
    * Compaq desktop connected via Ethernet cable to
    * Linksys WRT54G, v3 (IP 192.168.2.1) connected via Ethernet cable to
    * Westell DSL modem provided by SouthEast Telephone (his ISP - IP 192.168.1.1)
I set this equipment up for him about 18 months ago. His Compaq desktop connects perfectly to the internet, using the setup I described above, which I set up for him about 18 months ago. I *used* to be able to connect to the internet wirelessly (with both my IBM ThinkPad and my MacBook; my bro-in-law *used* to be able to connect to the internet wireless (with his Dell laptop).
For reasons we don't yet understand, neither of us can connect wirelessly to the internet any longer. I have called Linksys, posted to their board, and read other threads here, so I am aware that MacBooks have some issues with Linksys routers. I'm getting ready to phone my father-in-law's ISP, to see if they can help.
But... I don't understand why this used to work, but doesn't any longer. I would be very grateful for any help any of you great folks could provide, and I will gladly post here any detailed info on the setup that might be of help!
    Many thanks,
    Bill J.
MacBook 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iMac 17in Core 2 Duo 2.0, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express, IBM NetVista M42

    Thanks for your reply.
Actually the Linksys 2Wire modem works fine in OSX and when connecting via a Compaq PC I also have in the house. It is just on the MacBook running XP that it fails to "connect". XP see's the network but cannot connect.
Also, I downloaded again bootcamp and created a fresh driver CD, reinstalled the driver and received the same error: 1706 No valid source could be found for product Macintoish Drivers foir Windows XP.msi.
I looked at the directory on the CD and it appears that there are no driver files, only documentation.
I called Apple, got no help, called Microsoft, spent 1.5 hours talking to them
    they were no help either.
I sent a messge to the bootcamp beta mail address informing them that it seems the drivers are not being downloaded with bootcamp.
    Thx again.

  • Officejet J6450 will NOT connect to laptop wirelessly - PLEASE HELP...

    Good afternoon,
I just spent almost two hours on the phone with a woman from the HP Tech Support team that I could barely understand (not exaggerating - would be wonderful to bring back customer service to the US - god knows we need some more jobs here!!).  She had me do a number of things, none of which solved my problem - needless to say, it was a very frustrating two hours and now I am very frustrated!
My issue is that my laptop will not recognize the wireless Officejet J6450.  I have Comcast broadband cable internet, a Linksys wireless router, an HP desktop, and a Dell laptop (laptop is from employer - I work from home).  I loaded all of the software on my desktop first (connected via USB) and everything worked perfectly.  I used the Network Setup Wizard on the printer and connected to my Linksys wireless router with no issue whatsoever (full signal strength).  I printed a wireless netwok report - no problems were found - all diagnostic tests were a success.  The ethernet adapter wireless network connection IP address on my laptop is 192.168.1.102 and the IP address of the printer is 192.168.1.103.  So then I proceeded to load the software to my laptop for wireless connection - thinking all along how easy getting everything set up has been.  I then loaded the software to the laptop and I got to the part where it asks what type of connection I want to set up.  I chose wireless and it asked me to temporarily plug the laptop to the printer via USB cable.  I did so and it began searching for my wireless network.  I selected my wireless network and it began searching for my printer.  This is were I hit the brick wall - it could not find my printer.  I tried again - chose my network, tried to find the printer - no such luck.
I then did a Google search and checked these boards regarding alternative solutions.  I tried installing through Windows printers (BTW - laptop is running XP SP2).  Selected Local Printer, unchecked the automatically select box, chose standard TCP/IP, etc. - that didn't work either.
I consider myself fairly PC savvy and I am perplexed by this - just doesn't make any sense why the laptop won't detect the wireless printer.
I would greatly appreciate any guidance regarding my connectivity issue as I do NOT want to call HP Tech Support back.
One other thing, the Tech Support lady told me to reset the printer by turning it off and then having me press the pound button and the number 6 before turning it back on.  Not sure why she had me do this, but it reset the ink cartridges and alignment and now the printer no longer reports how much ink is left.  Any way to fix that?
Lastly, out of curiosity, why does HP recommend not leaving the wireless enabled on the printer when not using it?  Doesn't make any sense to have to turn off wireless everytime after printing and then turn it back on when needing to print again.
Sorry for this long post - hopefully this is enough information for you to help me out.
    Thanks in advance!
    Jeremy

    Hi Jeremy,
First, I have no idea why we are recommending turning off the printer's radio when you are not using it.  The only thing I can image is that if you leave the radio on and in its default configuration (SSID = hpsetup, no security, Ad-Hoc), then you are susceptible to neighbors or war-drivers using your printer.
Next, you have an interesting problem.  You've done everything I would have tried (check connectivity by browsing the printer's internal web page, turn off the firewall, try to manually add the printer).
I know you've disabled the firewall.  I might recommend uninstalling the firewall temporarily, then installing the SW again to see if that works.  Also, you might check to see that you don't have another firewall accidentally enabled (maybe the Windows firewall?).
Finally -- is there anything unusual about your wireless-router configuration?  Have you set any port-forwarding or other advanced settings?  BTW -- what model wireless-router are you running?
And of course there's a rather painful step to try that usually works:  reinstall the OS on your laptop and then install the printer SW (I'm somewhat embarrassed to suggest this but it does seem to work).

  • Trying to connect second laptop wirelessly but can only use numbers in password field

I've connected my Mac and another PC to my Valet Plus with no trouble.  The third PC, running Windows XP, can only be connected as a guest.  When trying to connect to this laptop to the home network, the password will only accept numbers.
I've tried changing the PC's security settings, disabling the firewall, etc.  Has anyone experienced this problem?

What is the service pack on your computer?
If it is windows XP service pack 1 then I think you will need to upgrade the OS to SP3. Because SP1 will not support WPA/WPA2 security mode.
When you install the router using Cisco connect, the wireless security on the router will be WPA/WPA2.

    Hey there CountryGirl2!
Let me start asking you for a few things first and probably we could make a solution out of your problem:
    1. What's the model# of your router? Try to look underneath it and you'd see it below the Linksys label. ex. WRT54G v6.
    2. Do you have any computer which is physically connected to the router and is able to get online?

We did that, but it just doesn't seem to be able to connect. So basically we tried to connect to our network and insert the password, but afterwards it does nothing. Weird thing is also that the network symbol (top right of the screen) says that it has been connected, but when I go look at the system preferences --> network, it states that it has not been connected

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.

I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Since both iPhone and iPod stopped connecting I suspect a problem with your network.

  • Hi there can anyone help. I am connected to the internet by ethernet but my connection keeps timing out and my network diagnostics shows all green and network connection ok but still no internet connection. the other wireless laptop in my flat works well.

Hi there can anyone help. I am connected to the Internet by Ethernet but my connection keeps timing out and my network diagnostics shows all green and network connection ok but still no Internet connection. the other wireless laptop in my flat works well. Could the other wireless laptops being used in my flat be affecting my connection. what can I do to get connected, keep connected. Thanks for any ideas out there.

My network connected for a few hours then went back to timing out. I have not changed anything. However there four additional laptop users in my family who do not seem to be having any problems using their wireless connection. Could their film and music downloads be causing the timing out of my connection and if so is there a way I could prioritizes my computer or limit their use?

My laptop every minute or two runs a program in the background. I see an egg next to the mouse pointer. I used Process Explorer to establish that it is trying to connect to HP3050 wirelessly. This happens even if I am nowhere near the printer. It is very annoying and uses up computer resources. I have removed the printer for now and the problem is cured. How can I fix this and use the printer again?
