Unsoldered chip on N670 Power Edition

Hi guys, I have noticed that my GTX 670 Power Edition OC have 2 unsoldered chips, specifically chips are attached but on one side of each are unsolder and are positioned under back side of gpu core

  • MSI NEW P.E. Series Video Card - GTX670 Power Edition 2GD5/OC with Twin Frozr 4

Glad to be back in the forum and I was been busy for awhile. By this time lots of PC hardware already came out especially from Nvidia. Just like today my share would be MSI's N670GTX PE 2GD5/OC video card.
First of all lets talk about the GTX670 GPU chip. This GPU is the younger sibling of GTX680 which uses the same 28nm GK104 chip but with one disabled shader cluster/core.The reference or standard GPU clock is 915Mhz with a turbo boost of 980 and as for the memory is concerned, it has a 256bit memory bus connected to a 2GB GDDR5 memory with speed of 6008Mhz. Just like with any Kepler based architecture, the card would also have all the goodies like "Adaptive V-Sync", "AA TXAA (Temporal Super Sampling)", supports "DX11.1" and improved 3D Vision Surround.
Moving on, let's check out now what MSI did with their GTX670 SKU based video card. The card is under a new Series named "Power Edition" (series comparison table below) and it comes factory overclocked from GPU clock of 915MHz to 1020MHz and Turbo boost of 980Mhz to 1080Mhz. It also comes with the 4th version of Twin Frozr Thermal Cooling design with a theme color of Black and Blue which matches the color of MSI's midrange to high-end motherboards as well. The dual 8cm PWM fan based cooler are equipped with Propeller Fan Blades which draws air better and now has the so called "Dust Removal Technology", basically as you startup your PC the fan will rotate counter clockwise for 30 seconds clearing the dust from the cooling heatsink. Adding a finishing touch, MSI equipped the video card with their Military Class III components ensuring the best performance, efficiency, higher overclocks and durability.

  • Screen flashing/black screen for 1-2 seconds - 7850 power edition 2gb/OC

I recently bought the MSI R7850 Power Edition 2GD5/OC. I have installed amd catalyst 12.10. I have no issues while playing games...the only game i have played since i bought the card is prototype 2 (all settings set to high). The problem is while browsing or when not playing my screen flashes (just once - screen becomes black) for about 1-2 seconds. This does not happen regularly, but quite a few times.. i have uninstalled and re-installed the same catalyst version twice (downloaded from different sources - one from msi and the other from amd). The problem still persists.

I've experienced the same issue exactly as described, with the R7850 Twin Frozr OC Edition. However, I've also experienced a crash or 2 in which the screen goes black and the monitor goes to sleep. The computer doesn't wake up and I'm forced to do a hard reset. One such event was severe enough that I was unable to restore Windows 8 and had to do a full reinstall...!)

  • GTX 660 Ti Power Edition HELP!!!!!!

I recently purchased a GeForce GTX 660 Ti OC Power Edition and I have been experiencing issues with it. I have only had it for 3 days and every once in a while, when I'm playing a game, my monitor makes a strange noise and my entire computer freezes and restarts itself. This has never happened before I installed the 660 Ti so I figured it had something to do with that. The card is running everything completely stock out of the box. I haven't tampered with anything in Afterburner or anything. This is my first mid/highish end card so I'm basically a complete noob when it comes to setting it up. Another problem I was thinking about could be the PSU, but I literally JUST purchased it 1 week ago and everything else seems to be running fine. As I said, I'm a complete noob when it comes to computers so I need all the help I can get. And I don't want to RMA the videocard until I know for sure that that's the problem.

yes it could if its sending a very badly scrambled return signal thats creating garbage signals that are looping that are then sent from the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit(on the Graphics card)) to the CPU(Central Processing Unit (Main system processor)) and its causing a malfunction as it can make no sense of it so its shutting down itself to prevent damage and get rid of the BAD DATA its receiving!
just try another Monitor and see if it no longer does the auto shutdown then you know that the Monitor is faulty or if the different one does it too then maybe your Graphics card is Faulty but without testing it out you have no idea which as it could be either! (but the Noise from the monitor is odd and is more likely a monitor that cant handle it as it has a fault)

    Hey there,
Noticed that my BIOS drivers were outdated so i updated them (Z68A-GD65 G3, version: 25.8), after all the reboots i logged on my computer, started teamspeak, and while searching for the teamspeak room the driver problem happened again.
Anyway, my power supply is NOX Hummer 80 600W, model: HUM80600.
The problems started on September of this year i think? I've had this computer for almost 3 years now. I have the latest Nvidia drivers, and this still happens, i've tried downgrading, fresh installing, and nothing worked.
    Graphics card: MSI GTX 670 Power Edition 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 DirectX11, S/N: 602-V284-02SB1207063830.
I'll try it tommorow if possible.
    Thank you for the attention.

  • MSI GTX570 TwinFrozr III Power Edition: Unstable at stock unless fan is 100%

    Hello Everyone,
I got my GTX 570 TwinFrozr III Power Edition yesterday and I like it a lot.  I've been testing it and running it through various benchmarks and games to find the best stable overclocks with Afterburner.  By doing this I noticed a few things that lead me to question if there is a problem.
Before I started trying to overclock, I ran the card at the stock settings 770core/1540shader/2000memory @ 0.962v and tried various benchmarks and stress tests.  Immediately I noticed there were errors and artifacts.  I tried to increase voltage and I noticed that the artifacts and errors were going away, so I thought maybe my VID was too low...  at 1.012v it seems to be error free at stock settings.
I tried another thing as well, I left the card at stock VID (0.962v) and put the fan speed to 100% and I noticed all errors and artifacts completely gone.  So I lowered fan speed to 70% because 100% is too loud for me and 70% is still pretty loud but it's better...  I found that at 70% I still got some errors but not a lot.  Let me just say that my GPU Core temperatures are amazing. never over 62c.
So now I don't know if there is a problem with my card or the factory just gave it too low of stock VID.  I think it's kind of weird that at stock settings that the card would produce artifacts and errors unless the fan speed is at 100%.  I'm guessing MSI factory tested stock overclocks with 100% fan speed?
I love this card, but if I ever resell in the future and someone installs this card they will think its broken.
Let me just state that finally, the card is an overclocking monster.  I am now at 950core/1900shader/2300memory @ 1.082v without any errors...  The only problem I have is that when I run unigine heaven I see some of these graphical anomalies.  Here's an example I found online which is exactly what I see.  http://fotohost.lv/images/n6azp80ru74so1ecp009.jpg
So far I'm not sure what the cause is for that... but I think that when I put the fan at 100% I didn't see it.  I could be wrong, but I will test again when I wake up tomorrow.
    Thanks MSI.

Thanks for the reply Henry, but the problem here is that it wasn't stable from the factory at their settings.
Do you understand how this can be problematic for me if I ever decided to sell the card?  It is no problem for me to raise the voltage at all.  I think this card is phenomenal, but if I ever sold this card to someone else who doesn't want to or know how to overclock or adjust voltages, it would be classified as a broken or faulty video card.
Also scratch the stability at 100% fan speed.  I still get some errors, although not many.  The card seems to be stable around 1.018 volts at default overclocked settings.
I just didn't expect MSI to make a mistake on the stock VID.  If there were a way for them to fix it through a bios update it would be great.
Edit: Just for the record, the card is a great overclocker and is very stable.  The only gripe I have is that it isn't stable at default frequencies unless I bump voltage to 1.018.  This is no problem for me, but if I ever were to sell this card, I would have to have a disclaimer that it is unstable unless you put voltage higher?
I'm just trying to figure out if this could be some oversight on MSI's part and if it isn't, could my card not have been quality inspected?

  • N570GTX Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC ----- No Boot / Blue Screen

    Hello all,
I recently purchase a brand new N570GTX Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC.  Previous to installing the card I had a gt250 with the latest Nvidia drivers installed (285.62).  I installed the n570 and booted up no problems.  I was able to see the new card installed in device manager and also confirmed it in afterburner.  However, I wasn't able to set or view the voltage settings even after enabling in preferences and restarting afterburner.  Although, the remaining settings / stats seemed to work fine.  I was also able to do a full kombuster (ultra settings) benchmark with no problems, receiving a decent score and topping out temps in the high 50's I think.  I also played a few games and turned up settings with no trouble.
When I rebooted my machine as the windows load screen popped up I got a BSOD and an error referencing nvlddmkm.sys.  All reboots there after either failed to the same BSOD error or rebooted the machine.  Booting into safe mode had no problem as did booting into normal mode if I uninstalled all nvidia drivers first.   As long as I boot into safe mode or there's no drivers installed it doesn't fail.
I've tried every version of the nvidia drivers I can find.  286.62, the newest 290 beta drivers, the 266 versions that came on the cd and multiple 270's version that were noted the most stable in internet forums...all produce the same results.  I then updated the bios on my motherboard to the latest.  I also reinstalled a fresh copy of win7 x64, and ran all system updates include service pack 1.  I did all those updates with my 250 installed.  After I had a solid system I put in the n570 and rebooted.  I again had a perfect boot and was able to access the card (not the voltage via afterburned or any info via live update 5).  I was able to run benchmarks etc once again.  Upon a reboot, it failed back to the BSOD again.  I repeated the multiple driver tests, all failed the same.
If anyone could suggest something other than RMA I would be happy to give something else a try.  It seems silly to RMA a card that works so well on first boot until I reboot windows.  But I'm out of ideas...
    System specs:
N570GTX Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC
    Intel Core i7 950
    6gigs Ram
730 watt power supply (w/ dual pci-e power connectors)
Gigabyte x58a-ud3r rev2 (newest bios - standard clock speeds - default voltage settings for pcie)
Win7 x64 Service pack 1 (all windows updates)
    Thanks for any help.

Also, if it helps to note, on the initial install (both times) the card was stable for hours until I shut down and rebooted.  If it were a power issue wouldn't it be unlikely to be stable for such a long time (even during stress tests) and then not even be able to load windows correct after a reset?  Seems like a driver issue to me, however as I've said I've tried them ALL haha.
    Thanks for the help

  • GTX 560Ti Power Edition always crashing!

    Hi,
I just got a new MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Power Edition "448 Edition" OC Twin FrozR III.
Every time i try to play a game. a few seconds in and the pc crashes and restarts.
    My pc specs are:
    -Intel i5 2500k
    -Asus P8P67 PRO motherboard
    -8GB DDR3 1600mhz G skill memory
-Corsir force 3 120GB SSD harddrive
    -3x sata 2 harddrives
    -blu-ray drive
    -19" hanns.g monitor
    -750w psu
In Afterburner i can see the temp running ok just above 40c so that seems ok so im not sure whats up with it.
I got this just in time for xmas and i can't play with it  :(
    please help!

I was afraid of that. means i will have to buy a new PSU then. I'm looking at these..

I'm thinking of getting the 850w one because it only costs a little more and will be future proof.
    What would be your recommendation?
wish i could test tho before buying but i don't have any other PSU's and don't know any one that does have a good one to use.

  • Driver for N560GTX-448 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC -l- split

I bought the card about four weeks ago and just now I had the opportunity to test it.
When I installed the video card in my PC, the device manager appears only a standard VGA video card. When I installed the driver, Device Manager showed a yellow exclamation on Nvidia's GeForce GTX 560 Ti saying "Windows has stopped this device becouse encounter some problems (error 43). I tried running some games but I could not open them, and with some drivers the screen was filled with artifacts
I tried various drivers on my two PCs, from one that comes with the video card to the 295.73 driver, and each time the same warning on device manager. Can anyone help solve this or may I do a RMA to MSI?

You sure your PSU has enough amps on the 12V rail and you connected the PCIE power connectors properly ?
Have you checked your Motherboard's BIOS revisions for updates regarding the later video cards ?
Your PCIE Bus interface should be 2.0 X 16. Have you reseated the card properly and disabled the on board graphics in your BIOS ?
My PSU is a SevenTeam 750ZAF with 750W. I used it to do SLI of my 9800GTX+ in the other computer and never had problems with it. I doubt that this could be my problem.
The GA-EP43-DS3L already has the ultimate BIOS and I did the update on the GA-A75M-D2H BIOS. Nothing new, the problem persist.
Anyone of my boards does not support PCI-Express 2.0 but this is not a requisites for  work of the video board like said the MSI page:
    http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N560GTX-448-Twin-Frozr-III-Power-Edition-OC.html#?div=Feature
"PCI Express 2.0 doubles the bandwidth of previous generations of PCI express up to an astonishing 16Gb/s. This maximizes the performance of current graphics cards in today's most demanding games and applications. PCI Express 2.0 products are fully compatible with mainboards with other versions of PCI Express."

You can also see them on the character's clothes, and in the top-right corner (they look like circular outlines in this section)Pretty much everywhere! If I play on LOW setting, the dots are less strong, but still there.
Here is BF3: http://postimage.org/image/3kbhepavp/full/ - As you can see, the issue is pretty terrible on this game! It makes no difference what settings the game is on.
    To summarize:
Not the PSU (brand new Corsair)
    Not RAM Timings
Not the Catalyst Drivers or Mobo BIOs
    Not overheating
    Not the MOBO/CPU (brand new)
Thanks for the help so far, but any other ideas? I have a feeling this brand new card is faulty.

  • GTX670 Power Edition Fan not spinning

One of the fans in my gtx670 power edition has recently stopped to spin. Both would usually spin together before.
When i use afterburner and set my fan speed to 85%+ it starts spinning again, just to stop after i lower the load.
Is it a known issue and is there a known fix? Or is my fan just malfunctioning and needing replacement?
This is the one i have:

    Thanks.
I got an aftermarket fan since RMAing is not possible because i live in another country.
It will be a while for it to arrive but it is worth testing. Just came here before to check if it could be something with new nvidia drivers or similar.

  • Request: UEFI GOP for R7970 Power Edition 3GD5

    R7970 Power Edition 3GD5
    S/N: 602-V278-04SB1204081382
    Current BIOS: hxxps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39370966/Tahiti.rom
    Thanks!

Can you please provide the latest stock BIOS for this card?  Upon flashing the GOP one you provided, I lost the ability to adjust voltages... which was the whole point of this card.  I tried to flash my original one back, but got an ID mismatch.
Or if the GOP version can be modified to allow voltage changes again, that'd be even better.
    Thanks!
