[UNSOLVABLE] Huawei ec1705 cricket modem and wicd

Installed usb_modeswitch and all the necessary dependancies. Light on the modem is on, but wicd says there's no connection OR network to connect to.

read the wiki on USB 3G modems, but I am not using any of the programs listed to handle my network settings.  Do I actually need to use one of those just for this purpose? Wicd has handled everything else so far and I'd prefer to stick with it if I can.
EDIT: just saw on the wicd wiki that it does not yet support ppp, so this is a dead topic... will start one with my infinite connect loop problem

considering wvdial, but I'm hoping for a more "user-friendly" gui-based option.  This is for someone new to Linux and I'd like to keep it simple for them.  I'm testing out network manager now, and I'm happy that it just finds the modem and gives me the Cricket Wireless option in a list of possible providers... but the modem never connects... the icon just spins as if it's in an infinite connection loop.  Will take all suggestions and work with them first thing in the morning as I am not taking this laptop home with me tonight.

  • Huawei e17 USB modem

    Hi,
I have one annoying trouble with my huawei e17 USB modem (connected to MacBook Pro):
    • Internet connection works fine when I log in but once I log out and my wife log's in the internet connection just hangs...tries to connect but hangs. Only solution what I have found for this is to remove huawei e17 USB modem and put it back again.
Any idea how this experience when switching between users could be done smoother (no need to remove huawei e17 USB modem all the time)??
    Thanks,
    Jorma

    Hi Defcom,
    Thanks for the info.
It was my understanding that the E220 USB Modem automatically installs the correct mac software.
System requirements listed on the box, Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS X
I'm expecting delivery of the iMac middle of next week, so I'll soon find out!
Meanwhile, I'm now getting maximum signal stength on all my Mobile Phones and the USB Modem.

  • Huawei ETS2288 USB modem

    Hi,
My girlfriend and I work out in Tanzania most of the year. We recently acquired a Huawei ETS2288 USB modem and want to work on our MacBook Pro. Unfortunately the disk only had drivers for windows on it.
    Does anyone know either;
    1. Is there a driver for OS X so that we can use it
    or
    2. Does any tech type person out there know anyway we can get it up and running.
    Thanks
    James

This is one of the very few problems I MIGHT be able to help you with. I'm new at owning a MAC, so bare with me. I'm stationed in Germany and had originally got Vodaphone for my internet provider which gave me a Huawei USB modem and the same problem, no software for MAC's. I had to go to Vodaphone's website (all German, that was fun) and find the software available for MAC computers. Try contacting your ISP that you got the modem from and see if they offer the same thing.

I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images!  Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

  • Cricket UM185C Broadband Modem and Snow Leopard 10.6.x

Cricket has (fraudulently in my opinion) jettisoned support for the UM185C USB Broadband modem and Snow Leopard after very little time. I only paid for the UM185C less than 6 months ago and here I am with wasted money and a service I've paid for that is useless.
Anyway, I saw here where intrepid forum users where able to get the Cricket A600 USB Broadband Modem and Snow Leopard to work together after a series of terminal hacks, etc.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2142240&start=15&tstart=0
Is there any hope for making the UM185C work or should I simply discontinue service with Cricket and report them to the BBB for fraud and leave well enough alone.
I think the fact that there's no mention of the UM185C in these forums tells me that most Mac users are ditching Cricket for broadband and I can't blame them. What an unethical company they are. By the way, want to have some fun? Try downloading the "mac" version of the driver from the Cricket site for the UM185C; it's an .exe file for Windows.

    Hi Cowicide Moo,
My name is Ryan and I work in partnership with Cricket Wireless. We are sorry to hear about any confusion you may have encountered regarding the types of software supported by our various selections of broadband devices. On our website, we provide a clear list of modems and support software for customers to be able to determine the correct device to purchase for their computer.

As you'll see, the UM185C is supported by Mac OS X Leopard (10.5+) and earlier, but does not currently support Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6+) 32-bit. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
    Best,
    Ryan on behalf of Cricket

Which network software are you using? Most 3G USB sticks ship with software on the stick itself (available on the USB thumb drive section built into most such drives) which will allow you to use the stick. Failing that, your service provider should have downloadable software on their site. I have a HUAWEI UMG1691 USB 3G stick, from T-Mobile USA. My firmware version is 11.126.08.16.420. I did have to download updates for the network software and the firmware before I got it to work reliably, but it does now. Similar HUAWEI sticks available locally from Verizon and Sprint also seem to work reliably, don't know anyone who has an AT&T stick. Verify that your system is properly set up.

  • Cricket UTStarcom Modem and MBP

My daughter is using a Cricket UTStarcom UM100c USB Modem with her Dell/Wondoze computer. After several virus attacks in the last two month she has had it with this computer and is moving to Mac again. She asked me to see if this usb modem would work on my MBP. The instructions for installation said it work with Mac OS 10.3.9 and I am running 10.4.11, so I figure no problem.
Following the instructions, I can't get past the install off the CD because it is an .exe file. The instructions also say...there is only 1 cd and all the software needed is on it. I am stymied. I go to the Cricket site and it says system requirement for this unit are OS 10.3.9 (Leopard). Now I am sure there is an idiot here and it is not me.
Questions...has anyone used this unit on a mac?
Am I supposed to be able to open .exe files?
Do you think if I take all this stuff up to an Apple Store they will check out the usability on a new mac running Leopard?
    I appreciate any suggestions.
    sj

A .exe file is a Windows installer and will not work on a Mac. The only thing required would be a script for the modem unless one is available in OS X. There are no scripts in the Leopard installation for that particular modem brand, but you may be able to use a script for another brand or try using the Generic script. You choose the script in Network preferences for the Modem port which should appear in the configuration list when the modem is connected to the USB port. You can also contact the manufacturer's technical support for assistance although they may not have any support for Macs.

  • Connecting wireless modem and airport express

I currently run internet with an old Motoirola Sideboard cable modem and Airport Express - previous version. All runs well. Now my Optus provider has upgraded my service with a Premium account for higher speed. They have also given me a free wi fi Cisco modem - DPQ3925. How can I replace my old Motorola modem and still maintain Air play etc with my new modem using Airport Express. I need to know exactly wire per wire help - please, if possible - Thanks
    Mac

    Hi - I have a similar issue.
I have a new macbook pro, ATV (3rd Gen) and AXn (purely for Airplay of itunes).
All three are wirelessly connected to my HG556a Huawei WiFi Router.
The Macbook pro and ATV work fine and can see each other for airplay mirroring and itunes.
The AX connects and comes up in Airport Utility (AU) and itunes shortly after you turn it on, but if you either dont use it or stop using it and switch to ATV or whatever it dissapears from itunes and AU says it cant find it. Randomly the light on the AX stays green the whole time.
I have to switch the AX off and on to get it back working again (i.e. itunes and AU can see it).
Following other forum posts I've set the AX up by hard connecting it to my router, setting a static iP and reserving ports 5353 and 3689 to that address. I've also turned off ipv6 or whatever using the networksettings Terminal code string. I have also repaired permissions with disk utility!
It still dissapears from available options in iTunes and AU. ideas?

  • Huawei E220 HSDPA modem (Vodafone Vodem) stopped working

    Hi there,
My faithful Powerbook is having issues with a company issued Vodafone Vodem (Huawei E220 wireless HSDPA 3G USB modem).
It worked well at first, but then after restarting, waking from sleep or rebooting from off, the Vodem would cease to connect to Vodafone, with the Vodafone Modem Software giving me a cryptic message "No modem or data card attached".
Yesterday, I tried reinstalling and uninstalling the software, and after several installation/uninstallations, it finally reconnected. It has since stopped working again since shutting down the Powerbook overnight. Reinstalling has not yet worked.
I read somewhere on the net that leaving the modem plugged in for a minute before attempting to connect might work - alas no such luck.
Has anyone else out there had problems with their Vodafone/Huawei E220 USB wireless modem, and how did you resolve the problem?
I have tried both the New Zealand 2.07 version, plus the European 2.08 version of the Vodafone connectivity software.
    I am running a Powerbook 15", 1.67ghz, MacOS 10.4.11, 512MB, no other peripherals connected.

    hi
I'm using a vodem on my Intel mac book and never even use the software vodafone provide as it is clunky, slow and unreliable.
i used it once to set up the connection and from then on have simply connected through system preferences:network: and connect the huawei modem from there. it even gives you the option of having an icon in your top tool bar.
    hope this helps
    cheers

I had very similar or maybe the same problem.
    My error was:

    I enabled ModemManager.service
    systemctl enable ModemManager.service
    and started it
    systemctl start ModemManager.service
    That solved the problem.

  • New Install, Huawei DSLAM ECI Modem

Hi all, Just appreciate your thoughts on this. New install today, getting approx 75 down 18 up. The DSLAM down the road is a Huawei unit so thought they might supply a Huawei cable modem but the engineer turned up with an ECI one and told me the Huawei was unreliable. I presume there is no effort to match the modem with the DSLAM, just in my mind you would like to think that same manufacturer would be better option for compatibility/performance? Regards, Paul

my own experience is no change of sync speeds but matching them up seems to improve error rates.
I am on a ECI dslam and was given a HG modem, I got hold of a ECI modem and now have noticebly less packetloss on my tbb graph.  The sync speed is around the same.
In many cases in real terms there may well be no noticeable affect but in marginal cases the numbers of errors could affect DLM which in turn affects performance.

  • HUAWEI E355 USB modem

I have a Huawei E355 USB modem connected to my MacBook Pro. OS X 10.8.4
However, after some time internet disconnects and I have to reboot the modem in order to get an internet connection again.
The modem is connected with 3G and WiFi is working properly so I do not understand why I haven't got access to the internet.
I there someone who knows why and how I should solve the problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    /someone who needs internet desperately

The Huawei E355 is a "mobile hotspot" and not really related to Apple's AirPort products.
Your best source for support would be Huawei's website: http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/productFeatures.do?treeId=582&pinfoId=3254 &directoryId=5008&tab=0 or the general Internet and Networking discussions forum for your MacBook Pro: https://discussions.apple.com/community/notebooks/macbook_pro

  • My Imac late 2012 running Yosemite does not recognise my Huawei 3g usb modem. itried to install Java bt still it does not although the same modem works with my MacBook pro . any help please

My Imac late 2012 running Yosemite does not recognise my Huawei 3g usb modem. itried to install Java bt still it does not although the same modem works with my MacBook pro . any help please

    Hey there mbarikiwa,
If your iMac still has not recognized the usb modem, I would use the troubleshooting for Yosemite USB issues in the following article:
OS X Yosemite: If a USB device isn’t working
If the device is connected to a USB hub:
Make sure the device and the hub are the same speed. Connect USB 3.0 SuperSpeed devices to a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed HUB, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices to a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed hub, and so on.
If the device doesn’t have a power cord and is plugged into another USB device that doesn’t have a power cord:
Try plugging the device directly into your computer’s USB port  or into a USB device that does have a power cord. You might need to disconnect and reconnect the other device as well, if it has stopped responding.
If you have many devices connected to your Mac:
Disconnect all USB devices except the device you’re testing, an Apple keyboard, and an Apple mouse. Make sure that the device is connected directly to the computer, and that any hubs or extension cables are disconnected. If you can use the device now, the problem may be with one of the other USB devices or hubs you had connected to your computer. Try reconnecting them, one by one, to your computer. When you find the device causing the problem, review its documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
Verify that the device appears in System Information:
Choose Apple menu > About This Mac. In the window that appears, click Overview, then click the System Report button to open System Information.
In the window that appears, see if the USB device is listed below Hardware in the Contents list. If the device appears but does not work, review the device’s documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
    Restart apps:
Quit and restart any apps that use the device.
    Restart your Mac:
    Choose Apple menu > Restart.
    Check your device’s USB connection
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Wireless modem and Airport Express.. one at a time

Recently my internet provider upgraded my old plug in modem to a newer wireless model. Now it seems that the current setting allow communication with only one or the other at the same time. If I want to be online with the wireless modem and send my iTunes music via Airport Express to my sound system, no dice. I have to either click on the modem up in the Airport choices to be online and listen to iTunes through the computer speakers, or go offline to listen to music through the sound system and Airport Express.
I'm sure I'm just missing something in preferences or settings somewhere.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks, and Happy New Year!
