*Unsolved Mystery* New Mini and my USB key

This has been a real mystery to me.  I am usually great about problem solving.
I have a MBP that recognizes and uses the iLok USB key without a problem.  I bought a new Mac Mini, and the key will not work on the new computer.  I have installed all the latest drivers/software, tried multiple USB ports and hubs, reset the PRAM/other utilities, repaired permissions, and more.  Nothing will even get the USB device to even show up in System Profiler.
The ports work fine with every single other device I own, and the key works on my other Mac, so I am truly puzzled what is going on with my new Mini.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

Everything you have heard seems to be correct.  This is the second one I have purchased and they are pretty problematic.  The MBP is running 10.7.3. I am afraid of updating because everything is running smoothly now.  I am a musician and I have a big show next weekend so I definitely need the iLok to work on at least one of my Macs.

I madwe a mistake when registering my new mini- instead of registering it as a new device, I put it in as a replacement for my iPad-  anyway, none of the photos from my iPhoto are apearing on my mini-

Are you referring to the Photo Stream?  If so log out of the iCloud account on the iPad and log back in to the same iCloud account as used on the Mac.

  • New Mini and old wireless keyboard must be 1" apart?

I just bought a brand new Mac Mini to replace older model of same. My old Apple wireless keyboard (probably 1st gen - the battery compartment is on the bottom) was working fine with old Mini, but with the new one, the keyboard loses connection unless the Mini and the keyboard are virtually touching each other. Move the keyboard a few inches away and connection is lost. I've taken all updates, including a BT firmware update, and still the problem persists.
Do I have a bad BT radio in my new Mac Mini?

Resolved. I took the Mini into the Apple store, and the Genius Bar discovered that, when they installed additional memory, that the cable connected to the Bluetooth antenna had disconnected.

  • New Mini and Lion headaches

I'm sure this is already out there, but I'm not even sure how to phrase my question.
Sooo.... I have a new mini. 2.3Ghz Intel Core i5 running Lion, 10.7.3. I was pleased to see that upon startup the first time, there was an option to use a Time Machine backup to "restore" my old system to my new one. Man, what a mess. The new mini will not continue to backup to the Backup that it was "restored" from, Adobe CS4 won't start up (Error Code 150:30).... I'm sad. I"m in the printing field and have been a faithful mac user since my first IIci and I'm sad. Can you guys offer some help or am I destined to computing on my iPhone...? Thanks all.

Setup Assistant launches automatically the first time you start up a new system, so you did use it. The "inherit" prompt appears not then, but the first time you back up.

  • New Catalog and No More Key Words

I did a bunch of file housekeeping (empty directories erased and some movement of files to other drives. I created a new catalog and imported all the files again. They all came but without their key words. Did I screw up? I still have my old catalog files.

    Ian,
Thank you so much for such a simple and clear answer. Can I do a Hybrid where I save the metadata on the files that have not been moved; create a new catalog and then manually apply key words to the files that I have moved?
Your question indicates you don't really understand how Lightroom stores keywords. By default, the keywords and other metadata are never written to the actual files. So ... moving the files or not has nothing to do with whether or not the metadata will show up on re-import. The metadata should be written to all of your files via Ctrl-A followed by Ctrl-S. And as I said in my earlier post, other information in the LR database will not get written to your files when you do Ctrl-S, and will not wind up in the LR catalog upon re-import. And creating new catalogs and re-importing simply isn't the best way to go. So ... forget this hybrid idea, forget this idea of re-importing, go back to your original catalog before the moves and work with that.

  • New Motherboard and No USB works...

I just finished my first homemade computer with out much troubles untill I tried to connect to the USB ports. I have a KT3 Ultra (I know behind the times) but none of the USB ports are detecting any of my USB devices. I have a AMD Athlon XP 2100 in it and am wondering if there is possibably some issues going on. I noticed a post talking about someone overclocking and the USB did not work. I am NOT overclocking but nevertheless the USB ports are not working and wonder if my processor is just too fast for my motherboard even though it is rated as being able to handle it.  Has anyone had any USB issures resolved when dealing with the KT3 Ultra and can share the knowlage with me? Any input would be of help here even a link to contact a Tech at MSI would help as I have not seen anything so far that takes me that way. Thanks again for any replys and suggestions

I take it you've enabled USB support in the BIOS?

  • HT1665 has anyone else having trouble with their iPad mini and iPhone usb cords? we have 3 mini's in the house and 1 iPhone we don't let the kids plug the iPads in and my wife takes great care charging her iPhone. and still all the usb cords break at the

ok this is getting a little ridiculous we have 3 ipad mini's and 1 iphone in our household and everyone of the usb cords breaks at the plug that goes into the devices. The latest is my wifes iphone cord and the phone is only 3 weeks old. what gives apple? Never had a problem with the older style cords. Bad thing is they charge a small fortune fo these cords.

I have three non-working cords as well.  The cable is so flimsy at the connector.  If enough people complain then maybe Apple will try creating a better product!  They should issue some credit or send customers a new cord.

  • DVI compatibility between a new mini and this LG monitor

    Hello...
Can anyone help me out? I'm new to the whole DVI thing, as this is my first new mac in a few years, I've only used VGA before. I'm going to be getting a refurbished mini, so it will be either early or late 2009, as soon as the right one comes up for sale on the store. I've ordered this monitor, link below, as it was on sale to use with it. I'm concerned about the DVI-I vs DVI-D thing, if there is any difference. The monitor just lists DVI as a connection option. I just want to be sure this monitor will work fine with my mini, as I only have 14 days to return the monitor, and it might be more than that before I get the mini. I'm guessing the monitor only comes with a VGA cable, so I would have to get a DVI-D to DVI-D male to male cable as well right? That cable seems hard to find on places like best buy online. Any information would be helpful!
    Here is the monitor:

Well, it looks like the 14 days have elapsed and you didn't get an answer. It can be difficult to get such specific advice as you were looking for in a timely manner, e.g. this exact mini with this exact display. The odds that someone with that exact kit reads this forum is not as high as you might think, especially if they aren't having any trouble, which would be a good sign in the context of your questions. But generally speaking, it should work.

  • I had to get a new keyboard and now the keys in the upper row are not working appropriately. How can I fix this problem?

My keyboard stopped working so I went to the apple store to replace it with another one. Now I am back home and the keys at the very top are not working correctly (volumn  F12 shows the dashboard, F11 takes the screen up and away, F8 pause button shows spaces, etc.). What should I do to correct this problem - I assume I probably need to download some type of softwear but what? I have a Mac OS X  Version 10.5.8 desktop - 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

All new keyboards need Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and above for full functionality.
Rather short-sighted of Apple perhaps, but that seems to be a trend these days.
I'm afraid the only fix is to upgrade to SL. Personaly, I'd take it back and get a refund and seek an older keyboard or a third-party one elsewhere.

  • Strange USB Current Limit/Port Shutoffs With New Mini

I just upgraded to a new Mini and put 2gig of RAM in it. Everything is great except.....I'm getting these bizarre "USB Over Current Notice" popups when trying to put a sixth plug into the USB tree. I've been through my equipment, it's not bad hardware(at least not a USB peripheral). I've tried eliminating one device after another, but I only seem to get the warning when plugging in a sixth plug(even just an iPod Shuffle dock). So it's as if my new Mini won't accept a sixth USB device. I would appreciate any help that folks have to offer.

Plugged directly into the Mini are an iPod cable, a Miglia TVMax, and the cord for the powered USB Hub. Plugged into the hub(which is new and bought in response to the main issue here) is my keyboard(happy hacking lite 2), a logitech marbleman trackball and a creative xmod.
I ran my mini only briefly before the RAM upgrade, and I had no issues at that time. Can RAM cause this kind of an issue with USB?

  • I have a new Mac Mini and all my software is up to date. My video keeps acting up, flashing and not allowing me to work. This was happening with my old machine as well. Is this a problem with my monitor or do I have a bug somewhere in  my system?

I have a new Mini and updated software. My monitor will keep flashing back and forth, shrinking the display and not allowing me to work. Sometimes clicking the mouse helps, sometimes clicking into the screen but it freezes up and won't allow me to work. Is this a monitor problem or is there some bug in my system.

Try just holding down on the power and home buttons to restart it. Thomas R. doesnt know what he was talking about. The tool is not made for jailbraeking and is not related to jailbreaking. If you want to get the link again, let me know, as I reapir iPhones, have been using it for years, nad it does NOT void your warranty. It simply reboots your device.
My apologies for all of the new people on this site who are novices to anything beyond iTunes or the device itself. Hopefuly your problem is solved.
