Unstable imported fonts in Garageband

In March 2008 "jenrou", working with GB3 and Mountain lion wrote: "I can download the sf2 files, and put them in the correct Banks folder, but when I open them up in GB I can't get them to play correctly: I can create a new instrument, (e.g. a wooden flute) test it out on the keyboard, fine, and pick it for a track. All's good. But if I stop the playback, and restart, suddenly that new instrument track is silent. After the soundfont file instruments go silent, I can re-open them, via the generator (DLSMusicService) and start the process over ... regardless of what I do I also can't export the file to iTunes with the new instrument tracks -- just the tracks with original GB instruments play without fault and get exported."
Now, 6 years later, I am having exactly the same problem with GB9 and Mavericks. I see others have lots of problems with their computer crashing with DLS server. That isn't happening with me, but I have a real struggle to get the DLS server to respond - it sees the fonts, but won't allow me to choose them. When it does, as with happened with jenrou and many others, they go silent after one play.
Ha Garageband not solved this problem in 6 years? Any tips?

Haven't used sound fonts in a long time so I can't help you there. But the button is now called the Catch Playhead Button.

  • Fontagent Pro 4.0.2 is very slow on importing fonts

Everytime I try to import fonts into Fontagent, I have to wait a looong time. Importing 16 fonts with about 162 files took about 15(!) minutes. Furthermore, if FAP is unable to import a certain font, it does not display a warning message. Instead it says 'no fonts have been imported". Which does not keep it from copying the fonts to its font folder. Does anybody have a solution to this?

Where did you find version 4.0.2? I'm only still getting 4.0.1 when downloading from InsiderSoftware or MacUpdate.
4.0.1 was a no-go with us because I'd get crashes with some InDesign documents. I don't have time to add that to the workday.

  • Import font as member under Mac

    Hi
I want to import some specific font into cast and use it for
    the case the
font is not installed on users computer
It works without problems under PC, but when I try to do it
    under MAC - I
    can not do it
The reason - when I select "Insert -> Media element ->
    Font ...", "Font Cast
member Properties" dialog opens, but the List of fonts in
    field "Original
Font:" does not contain the font, that I want to import into
    my cast (in my
    case Segoe Print)
The font is installed on the system (for example when I
    select some
textmember, i can set its font using "Text Inspector"-dialog
    - my font is
    present there)
What is the reason of this problem - is there any
    requirements to fonts that
    can be imported into casts?
    Any help will be appreciated
    Thanx in advance

The problem is - I need specific german symbols in that font
    (ä,ö,ü,ß).
And when font is imported under Windows - the german text is
    showed correct,
but when I move the same file to the mac- the Umlaut symbols
    are showed
    wrong - as rectangles
It looks like symbols, that present desired letters under Mac
    have other
    codes
Therefore I wanted to import the font on Mac - but without
    success

  • Voice too fast after import: iTunes to Garageband

Hi I searched the forum but could not find a solution.
I recently recorded my first podcast. Here are the specs:
    RECORDING
I connected the phone to iPod via a mini jack to the top of a Griffin recorder.
    I recorded the interview.
Connected the iPod to my MAC.
Voice recording synced up nicely with iTunes
    It plays perfectly on iTunes.
    GARAGEBAND
I then open a new podcast project with GarageBand.
I find my interview via the media browser in my iTunes Library.
I then played it again to make sure it is OK
Then I drag it to my Male Voice in Garageband...
    PROBLEM
The voice plays like if it is mikey mouse speaking on adrenalin
The recording is 23:20mins long but after import it is condensed to 4:13mins
What do I do? Your help is really appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Rick

    Hi Rick,
This happened to me as well. It has to do with the audio sampling rate not matching between the ipod recorder and garageband. The solution I came to, was to use quicktime to convert the audio before importing it into Garageband. I'm not sure whether it takes QT Pro to do this or not, I have QT pro so didn't think about it.
I use "Sound to .wav" and I had to play around a bit with the settings to get it to work. I think upping the sampling/bit rate to 44,100 is what did the trick, though I am answering this from memory so not completely sure, you may need to fiddle with it a bit.
Don't know whether the Griffin has software which allows you to vary the sample rate in the original recording. My recorder does not, so I have to convert.
    Good Luck!

  • Could not use imported fonts, won't publish my site... total disaster

This version *****... first could not use previously installed fonts then I lost the entire published version. now can't bring up my blog... I published to .mac and only shelleypiser.com comes up but cannot get writeonyoga.com
I want my old version back this one needs to be thrown out and start again. does anyone know why the imported fonts cannot be used to other computers? it came up with big ugly letters. none of the geniuses or procare brains knew what to do....

Embedding a font does not make it available in Illustrator or any other program. (Exception, Acrobat is able, and must, use the font to correctly draw the page.)
If there are missing fonts when opening a pdf in Illustrator, the fonts are not installed on the machine.
As Bob said, "Illustrator is not a pdf editor!". It can, and is abused for such, all to often, with caveats.

  • Can we import audio into GarageBand?

I'd like to import an MP3 (or any supported format) into a Garageband track.
    Can it be done?

I know this thread was last posted some time ago, but since this still comes up on the google results when asking this question, I thought I'd post the solution here as well:
You CAN import audio into GarageBand on the iPad, though you need a computer to do it. Open iTunes on your Mac or Windows machine, connect the iPad. Open the iPad up, at the top of the screen should be a tab for "Apps". Go there, then scroll down. You should see a list of apps that can share information with a computer (on mine I only have three, GarageBand, Kindle, and Clean Writer). Click on GarageBand and you'll have a chance to add files to the list. Once you've selected the files from your hard drive (i've only tried mp3 files so far), click apply.
When you go into garageband on the iPad, you can create a new track in the multi-track view, tap on the "loops" icon, tap "Audio Files" and you should see all the files you copied over from your PC or Mac. You can then drag them into the timeline. Now you can play along with your own audio.
Here's a video someone else made of the process:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0X80kB4f8O4
I just wish the iPad version of garageband had some more effects. I like to practice with my iPad and my electric bass, and on the PC I can use EQ to "remove" the bass from the original song and playback with my recordings. No EQ on the iPad makes this a bit more difficult. Still a gret product, though.

  • Trouble importing font

Hi. Having trouble importing a font -- universe to be specific. I brought it into Font Book and it's working in Pages. But when I select it in Final Cut, I get a bold, italicized text. It doesn't change -- it's bold and italicized -- no matter what style I choose (plain/bold/italic/bold-italic).
Any ideas on how to fix this?

    6.0.6.
False alarm -- the font works fine in the video panel of the viewer. It's only slanted and bold in the control panel.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Adobe Flash CS6: Import Font "Gulim"

    Hi there,
I am an absolute beginner with Adobe Flash CS6. Managed to work with it so far but I would really need to use the Korean Font "Gulim" witihin the software.
Couldn't find anything to this topic neither in the community nor on the internet, would be glad if s.o. could help me!

    # Is there any way to use/import the Korian Font "Gulim"? It doesn't appear in the software but I've got it installed on my Mac.
Thanks for any answer in advance!

If you are on Windows, it could be related to a recent Windows update.  Seems to have started yesterday for a lot of people.   Check out this thread (or any of the other text related threads from yesterday).

The issue is related to the Windows Font Parsers.  Maybe TLF uses it's own.
