Unstable internet sharing

Ever since this last update internet sharing has been unstable on my phone. After a few minutes it seems to stop working and I have to turn off then back on the internet sharing to work.
Does anyone else have this issue?
Is this intentional by Verizon? If so, then it's time to look for another carrier.

hotdog777, I wasn't jacking you around, I replied and directed my comment to Verizon Wireless Customer Support. I know you are angry about what has happened to your phone, but your language seems like you are angry at me. My post was directed towards Verizon Wireless Customer Support for Furuta and your benefit, because I am not happy with the, for lack of a kinder word, the incompetence of Verizon Wireless Customer Support. They do not understand the Windows Phone platform so when they post in these forums they first act like they care, then they say something sympathetic, then they try to sound up beat like they are going to fix your problem, but it is a façade because they never provide any real help.
So to answer your question: because issues like this are very difficult to troubleshoot, and most likely you will never get to the bottom of it, I would unfortunately recommend the drastic measure of resetting or restoring your phone FAQ - How can I recover/reset/restore my phone software? - Microsoft - USA If the issue persist after wiping the phone, then check Microsoft: Nokia Lumia 928 - Troubleshooter - Microsoft - USA or contact Microsoft: Nokia Lumia 928 - Warranty and repair - Microsoft - USA .
I think I am coming to the conclusion that it is sort of useless to post in the Verizon Wireless Community Forums. Verizon Wireless Customer Support doesn't help on here. The best thing I have seen to do here seems like complain with other people who are in the same boat about firmware updates not being released, but even then Verizon Wireless doesn't listen to us on these forums. It is probably best if we all just started posting over in Windows Central Forums and Windows Phone - Microsoft Community. Also, those sites get a lot of media attention in the internet news aggregators.

Macbook Pro, update to Mavericks ->internet sharing unstable (ethenet -> WiFi)

Thanks, indeed there's not a lot there.
I was thinking that there might be a network reset option on my Snow Leopard Mac Book, like I've had a to do a time or two on my iOS devices that suddenly stop seeing the internet. Since I didn't know what that is, I set up a clean TEST user account. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to change anything, so perhaps the internet network settings are global. Any ideas how to reset the network settings and clear them out completely?
Hard to believe that there could be something so different between Mavericks and Snow Leopard as far as common network protocols are concerned that allows one to be plug and play and the other to connect to the network but not see the internet. Could it be the hardware? A 2007 MacBook vs. a 2011 MacBook Pro?

  • Mountain Lion on Mac Mini - WiFi unstable for Internet Sharing

I have a Mac Mini Mid 2010 MC270LL/A previously on 10.6.8 and everything worked fine.
I have it plugged into a Plasma TV via HDMI and network via CAT6, but it also doubles as a WiFi access point via Internet Sharing.
Previously WiFi was secured via WEP, I don't recall if 10.6.8 had anything stronger, most likely not, otherwise I would have gone WPA2.
I have now done a clean install of 10.8. ie erase hard drive, boot from USB and lay down a clean install of Mountain Lion.
Software update downloaded a new Firmware, which has also been applied and rebooted.
Now I've set-up Internet Sharing, used same SSID (maybe should have picked a new one in hind-sight), but secured via WPA2 - the only option.
Previously my Macbook Air 13" MC965LL/A, had undergone the same clean install treatment via wipe, then boot from USB and install 10.8.
The Wifi worked flawlessly with Macbook Air on 10.8 connecting to Mac Mini on 10.6.8 (Secured via WEP), no drop outs, connected even after sleep.
Even the power nap feature worked really well, I was impressed that when I open the lid on the Macbook Air, I had emails already waiting for me.
Now with the Mac Mini on 10.8, it's a really sad state, constant WiFi dropouts, my File Sharing disappears, Screen Sharing stops, it's a real pain.
I'm hoping it's not the new firmware, I guess I'll find out when I restore to 10.6.8 and see how it goes.
Anyone else have issues with Mac Mini WiFi on 10.8 ?

  • Open DNS and internet sharing

I am seeing strange behavior, and wondering if anyone has a thought about what is going on.
I am at a hotel with fast internet service over ethernet, but, for whatever reason, DNS seems very slow if I use DHCP to connect (timeouts of 5-10 secs to get to a new site). If I switch to DHCP with fixed DNS, and use the Open DNS servers (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) the latency issues go away.
The interesting thing is that I am sharing the internet connection over Airport to my wife's computer (she connecting thru DHCP). If I use a fixed DNS for MY computer, then her computer cannot connect thru internet sharing. But if I use the (slow) DHCP connection, then she can connect through mine. I have not tried setting up her computer with a fixed DNS, as she really doesn't like me to change settings on her computer
Is this a known limitation of internet sharing, or is there something I should know?
    TIA

In more detail, if my ethernet (the computer that is doing the sharing), is set up with Configure: Using DHCP, and DNS Server: 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 (in Network Panel for Ethernet), then the computer connecting thru Internet Sharing in Sharing Panel is not able to access some or all resources thru http (ie, pages fail to load, or do not fully load).
However, if I clear the DNS Server part in the Network Panel, thereby using the the DNS Servers supplied by the hotel, then my computer's connection to the internet is slower, with long waits (presumably due to a slow DNS server), but computers accessing the internet via Airport thru my shared connection are able to browse the internet successfully.
I suspect that when I have a fixed DNS server in my computer, that fact is not broadcast to computers using the shared connection. But I am not an expert in TCP/IP, and may well be confused about how DHCP, DNS, and Apple's Internet Sharing work together.
Thanks for any ideas you have

  • Can't create airport/wifi internet-sharing network with other laptop

I have an iBook running Tiger 10.4.11 connected to the net with ethernet. The internet connection comes through a radio antenna which acts like a router to which I don't have access.
I want to share my internet connection, and to be able to transfer files, between the iBook and another laptop. I've tried it with two - one running Fedora 11 (mine) and one running Windows XP, and have the same problems with both.
I turn wifi on on the ibook and linux laptop. I turn on internet sharing from built-in ethernet to airport in System Preferences. First I try it with no encryption. 'Other settings may interfere with internet sharing' shows up; it tells me to enable Personal Web Sharing, which I do. When I click start Little Snitch tells me natd wants to connect to 10.0.2.1 (presumably the router in the antenna), which I allow. I try to connect with the linux laptop and it tries then disconnects.
    1) isn't personal web sharing for serving web pages? — why is it necessary here at all?
    2) what am I doing wrong in making my network work?
If I enable encryption using WEP, the other password asks me for authenticication, I put in the password, and it then tells me the network has been disconnected.
    3) is WEP the best encryption I can use from Tiger?
    4) I think the problem's with Tiger (both laptops can connect to other wifi networks not set up by me). Is there a piece of free software I can use to share the connection instead of the built-in one?
I can't make a functional network in reverse either (i.e. setting it up on the other laptop and trying to connect wirelessly with the ibook).
What I am trying to do is precisely this (http://my.safaribooksonline.com/0596009135/runmacx2-CHP-11-SECT-13) — it just doesn't work.

When I click start Little Snitch tells me natd wants to connect to 10.0.2.1 (presumably the router in the antenna), which I allow. I try to connect with the linux laptop and it tries then disconnects.
Back on that part, at that Point the Mac is a NATD Router, don't try to connect to the other computers.
On the Mac, with Internet Sharing enabled, open NetInfo Manager in Applications>Utilities.
From there on out, it's a bit foggy, but iirc Config>DHCP>Subnets><the subnet>, then down where it says com.apple.nat... what does it report for IPs?
If it were say 10.43.29.1 then the others trying to join should have that as a Router/Gateway, and then 10.43.29.2, 10.43.29.3, etc. as IPs.
Apple says you can't set it Manually, but I've had it work a couple of times.

  • Remote App and Internet Sharing Problem

Ok so basically heres the setup we have, we have one of the recent iMacs, a Macbook, and 3 PC's, one running XP and the other 2 Vista. All of these computers are on a network together. All our music is on one of the Vista PC's, called "SERVER". This PC is connected to the speaker system, so is what we use for music.
Now I've been trying to use an iPod Touch we have (most recent firmware 2.2, and most recent Remote app version.) and the remote app to control the itunes on this PC. This is not an issue when the iPod is connected to the Wifi the router itself provides (its one of those wireless routers), but when I switch the Wifi the iPod is using to the Wifi provided by the iMac using internet sharing, it suddenly can't find the library anymore. Internet (safari) still works fine from the ipod when connected to this Wifi point.
My guess is that because the iMac using internet sharing seems to act more like a router than a wireless access point (allocating its own IP adresses ect..), the iPod thinks its on a different wireless network, and thus cant see the itunes library. Obviously the iMac is connected to the router directly by ethernet, if I hadnt mentioned that.
So, my question is, can I fix this ?
Is there any way to make the internet sharing mac behave like a wireless access point and not like a router ?
    Help would be much appreciated.
    Thankyou.

asuming you mean internet sharing as in you connect adhoc to 1 computer using wifi and the rest of the network is wired
problems is the middle name of adhoc wifi though cause everybody problems imho
and wifi routers are soo cheap most people don't bother
even if internet sharing is used remote app should still work if not connecting adhoc at least it's working for me right now
with a setup of many computers 1 wifi router
1 computer sharing internet using an usb 3g modem
remote app works with all my computers and my appletv

  • Touble with Internet Sharing since latest Aiport Update

Up to yesterday I was able to share seamlessly my internet connection on my iMac using built in airport as a router. Since the last update, every time I open internet sharing is running on my iMac while connected to the internet, sharing my connection from ethernet using Airport within 30 second of my iPod been connected to my Wireless signal my internet connection die, and can no longer access the internet with my iMac or iPod. The only way to get back my internet connection is to disable internet sharing in system preference.

    Just to be clear,
    1. You are connecting fine on your iPhone (meaning that you have the 3 bars next to your Carrier in the top left of the screen)
    2. you can't access the internet on you iPhone
    Correct?

  • Can I use internet sharing to give internet to my Apple TV through my Macbook and use Airplay on the same computer at the same time?

So I am using internet sharing from my Macbook to my Apple TV. The router providing internet to my Macbook has an ip address that looks like 192.168.0.x. Since the internet sharing feature assigns an ip address that looks like 192.168.2.x to my Apple TV, the Macbook is unable to see the Apple TV ("different" networks). Is there a way around this so I can share internet and still be able to use Airplay between the two?
BTW I am using a Macbook Pro Retina 15'' (late 2013) on Mavericks 10.9.1 and Apple TV 3.
    Thanks.

Why are you tyring to spilt your connection though the MBP?  Why don't you just connect them both to the router as they are meant to be setup?

  • Error message about firewall and internet sharing

hello all i have a question regarding the use of firewall and internet sharing.
I have a PMG5 connected to internet through Airport. I've linked an Xbox 360 via the built-in ethernet port in order to access Xbox Live. I had to open specific UDP ports on the OS X firewall but it now works fine. However, in the Sharing Preference Pane, Internet Tab, i still get an error message saying that my Internet Sharing is disturbed by the settings of the firewall and sharing services, it says that i did not activate "personal web sharing" in the first two tabs...but i DID ! And there's no way to get rid of this error message.
I know I know some may consider it's not a real problem because it's just an error message while the connection actually works fine but well, I tend to hate error messages when they're not supposed to show up. So if anyone know the answer, thanks in advance...
    Good day to everyone
    Vince, Paris...

sorry about the delay in replying, was kinda busy
well trashing the pref files was useless and i tried with another user, same thing. As for the second opinion, the problem was not about which port was used cause as i said the connection sharing works fine and anyway it was the correct port that was checked, it's just that i get an error message while there is no apparent error and everything works fine, i'm told that personal web sharing is not enabled but it is...
Anyway as i said, it's probably not a real matter, as long as it works...which brings me to another thing. I've created a special protocol in the firewall to enable a proper dialog with the xbox. it's basically the same thing you do for ichat AV when you have video connection problems, you track down the concerned UDP port using terminal, you allow traffic and all... The protocol for the xbox worked great for some days, but now it seems it's not enough, the game set keeps trying on another port and i constantly have to update the protocol or deactivate the firewall...and enabling back all UDP traffic is not enough to solve it.
In a way i think everything is linked, the initial error message when everything was fine and the current trouble. Any idea?
    thanks
    Vince

  • AT&T microcell and internet sharing

I have an Airport Extreme connected to my cable modem, with an iMac 10.6 connected though the Airport. I just got an AT&T microcell which normally connects to the Airport ethernet port giving me better iPhone calling. I want to instead connect the microcell to the iMac ethernet with internet sharing enabled, through this ethernet port. The microcell doesn't like this, ethernet connection light just blinks and the network cp ethernet port says Self-Assigned IP. Can I make this configuration work somehow?

It won't work that way. The Microcell needs a wired connection all the way back to the router.

  • Airport Roaming Network and Internet Sharing

Dear Esteemed Experts (Tesserax et. al):
Thanks to you, I have successfully set up TC and 2 Airport Express N in a roaming network (plugged to Ethernet but using the same name and protocol) using 802.11n (b/g compatible) radio mode. It's working well, except a few blind spots to cover.
If I want to add an old b/g-only Airport Express or Netgear Access Point (WG602) to this roaming network (plugging them into Ethernet outlet), will this slow down the N network?
Also, can I turn on Internet Sharing on my iMac (with N capability) and make it to join the Roaming Netowrk? If so, can I manage it through Airport Utility?
    Thanks
    Aghoo

If I want to add an old b/g-only Airport Express or Netgear Access Point (WG602) to this roaming network (plugging them into Ethernet outlet), will this slow down the N network?
If it is connected via Ethernet it will have no direct affect on the performance of the 802.11n network.
lso, can I turn on Internet Sharing on my iMac (with N capability) and make it to join the Roaming Netowrk?
Internet sharing has nothing to do with joining a wireless network. If you want your iMac to join the wireless network, just go to the AirPort menu and select the network that you want to join.
If so, can I manage it through Airport Utility?
AirPort Utility is only for managing Apple's base stations.

  • Airport Express, Leopard and Internet Sharing

I have my internet connection running directly to my iMac's ethernet connection and I use the Internet Sharing option to share my connection with computers. I had been using my Airport Express just to connect to my iMac for Airtunes. My Airport Express has stopped working and is not located unless I shut off Internet Sharing, but if I turn that off, it will not let me set the Airport Express to connect to an existing network - I guess because the network does not exist because I shut it off to configure the Airport Express. This is driving me crazy - any thoughts?

Interestingly, it works again. To initially configure the Airport Express, I had to shut off internet sharing. I configured the Airport Express (I did a hard reset to clear everything out) using the Airport Utility and set it to join an existing network. Of course my network did not show up since I had shut internet sharing off, but I manually typed in the name and password that I had already set for the internet sharing. I also put in a name and password for the base station, but this isn't required.
Then I hit update and right when it says that the configuration has been changed and it is waiting for the Airport Express to restart, I turned internet sharing back on. I waited and after flashing yellow for a while it connected. I unplugged it and plugged it back in to make sure it was fully configured and it works. I have found in the past the unplugging and plugging back in solves a lot of problems too.
Now that it is all set up, I can see and reconfigure the Airport Express in the Airport Utility even when internet sharing is on.
    Hope this helps.

  • Computer - computer network and internet sharing

I apologise if this has been discussed elsewhere - please point me to any useful links.
I have a G4 iMac and iBook (running 10.4.6) both with airport extreme cards installed. I would like to use a computer to computer connection for file / printer sharign and most importantly to share the ethernet connection to the internet running through my iMac.
I would be extremely grateful if someone could point out how to do this and incorporate a practicable level of security (I don't want any of the hundreds of people in adjacent flats downloading lord knows what through my connection).
Having accomplished this, I then need to be able to create a similar connection when required so that when required I can share the internet connection from the iMac with our PC laptop running Windows XP service pack 2.
So, the simpler the better, instructions for creating a computer - computer network for internet and file sharing between two Macs and following that between the Mac with the internet connection and a Windows laptop.
Thank you very much in advance.
    G4 iMac USB 2.0 / G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You don't need to setup up computer to computer connection if your using internet sharing. Once you start internet sharing then your 2 computers are connected togther.
I would be extremely grateful if someone could point out how to do this and incorporate a practicable level of security (I don't want any of the hundreds of people in adjacent flats downloading lord knows what through my connection).
The problem you have is that if you enable internet sharing on one of your macs to share its connection over airport then the only level of security you can enable is WEP encryption.
The problem with WEP encryption is that it offers no real security and can easily be cracked. WPA is the only security you should consider using and unfortunately OSX does not have WPA encryption functionality when using the built in internet sharing function.
Your best solution is to get a wireless router that has a SPI firewall an WPA encryption. Depending on what your current internet connection is and how it is provided would determine the best kind of router to get.

  • Lumia 710 signal and Internet sharing problem

I've been using Lumia 710 since 3 months. Even though the initial experience was good now I'm facing a serious signal problem with the phone. We recently moved to a high-rise building where the signal is weak inside the rooms. If the phone looses the signal it doesn't pick-up the signal even though network is available. This is causing a serious a trouble to me as I don't receive or make calls during the period. I either need to switch-off and switch-on again or I need to turn-on and turn-off  flight mode for the phone to pick up the signal. Sometime even though the signal shows 3/4 bars I won't be able to make/receive the calls.
I'm also facing a issue with Internet sharing option. Even though devices are able to connect they are not able to use the internet/data from phone. I was using the same SIM with other phone of different make and it was working pretty fine. I rely a lot on internet sharing option and now I can't even swap my SIM with old phone as Lumia uses micro SIM.
Please let me know the solutions to both these issues.

That is not normal though. Bring your phone to your local Nokia Care Center and let them have a look at it.
Internet Sharing on Edge/G is not working very well, try and find a 3G connection (which is fast enough) and you will get a better experience.
