Unstable mail with gmail

Mail is behaving very unreliably with gmail. I don't know if it's a gmail problem or Apple problem. On the other hand, gmail works perfectly with my iPhone, so one could presume it's mail.app. It also seems to have become worse after 10.5.5, but that could be a coincidence. Here is what happens
Ever so often, mail cannot connect to gmail. It shows the little warning triangle outside the inbox. It seems to happen when coming out of sleep, or changing network (e.g., airport->ethernet). I cannot quit mail either, but has to force quit it. After I then restart it, it will connect well enough to gmail and retrieve my mail.
Any suggestions?

It just happened again. This time I did not have to force quit mail, quit worked. However, after I started up again, it insisted on downloading a couple of thousand old messages again. It appears it did not download the complete messages, because it only took a couple of minutes. Some kind of sync? Still, it's continually unstable.
Anybody have mail and gmail IMAP working smoothly? Any tricks?

  • Mail with Gmail issue

I could not seem to find any relatable info on the problem I am experiencing... See below
I am using Leopard Mail with my Gmail account via IMAP. Sometimes, when receiving a message, it will only show up in the gmail "All Mail" folder, and never make it to the gmail "inbox". It seems to be very intermittent. However, if I send an email to a mailing list, with the recipients in the BCC field, ANY reply made to my message will only show up in the "All Mail" folder. That part I can re-create.
    Any ideas?

I have, even searched them in mail.. it is just going to the "All Mail" folder, no where else... I have disabled all rules as well..

  • Duplicate emails in Mail with gmail

Hi, I keep getting multiple duplicate emails in my inbox. Even the one's I've deleted keep coming back. They appear across my folders and it's really frustrating as I'm unable to stop it. I've checked the discussions but cannot see an obvious solution (unless I'm looking in the wrong place) other than to disable my POP account in gmail settings, which I've done. Can anyone offer any help please?

  • Mail with gmail

I have synced my gmail to "mail". When I delete mail from my gmail account via safari it does not seem to recicate to mail. Hence, I have these e-mails in the inbox which I have already deleted on the web. Whats up with this?

When you delete mail on gmail online it doesn't delete it from your mail inbox unless you deleted them online without opening mail first. Once it downloads to your inbox it's there until you delete it from mail.
That is incorrect, GMail synchronizes with Mail's inbox at whatever schedule you set.

  • Can't sync Apple Mail with Gmail and Yahoo

Hi all, I really hope you can help. I have e-mail accounts with Gmail and Yahoo, and I'd really like to set either or both of these up in Apple Mail, primarily so that it will be really quick and easy to send people photos from my iPhoto library.
I've put in the correct info and I've enabled POP and IMAP in my Gmail settings, but when I try and set up it just says "checking connection to server [email protected]" for ages and doesn't acheive anything. When I did somehow manage to set it up briefly, I tried sending a message and it just dissapeared when I pressed send, didn't appear in my sent mail either in Gmail or in Apple Mail, and was not delivered.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm really frustrated that something that should be so simple could be such a pain - setting up e-mail on my iPhone took seconds and works perfectly! Thanks,
    Malinna

    Hi Malinna,
Did you follow Google's instruction on how to setup Mail.app and GMail?

  • Apple Mail, iPad & iPhone mail with GMail imap

    Hi,
I'm using a MacBook Pro 13", a iPad 4 (actual retina) and an iPhone 4.
I have issues using apple mail with my Gmail imap account :
Only the inbox seem to be fully compatible with every device I use, but the outbox, for example, seem not to be the same box on all device.
when I send a mail from my MacBook, the sended mail doesn't appear in the Mail's classical outbox but in a sub-box of Gmail box on the bottom, and I can't find any trace of the mail on iPhone/iPad.
Is there anything I can do to make that I have the same Inbox, Outbox, Draft, Spam and Trash boxes in all my device and server.
I tryied with iCloud mail account and this works perfectly !!
If it's not possible, is it possible to set my icloud mail account to be with my own domain name as it is on my Gmail acount ?
    thanks

On iOS, there is no local configuration for the Sent Mail. for Gmail, it automatically goes to the Sent Mail folder. But Sent Mail only shows up when you tap Gmail under the Account setings, not in Inboxes. For OSX, however, you may be able to configure a designated folder (that can be either on the local machine or on the account server). To be honest, I can't recall where that configuration is, and do not have the MBP in front of me. This article may help (or provide links to instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5361

  • Iphone Mail with Gmail

    Hello,
I just received my Iphone and managed to set up my gmail Imap account quickly and efficiently, it works beautifully.
The problem is I have another alias on the same account and I would like to add it in.
I was told that in the settings page I could go to email address and put a comma in plus the alias and it would all work... it doesnt.
There is no comma option in the email address box for the account.
Can someone help with this? Am I adding it to the wrong box?
In an idea world I would like to be able to choose whether I send with the alias or the main address within mail without having to add a new account
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

  • Mac Mail stops recieveing mail with Gmail Accounts and Google Apps

    Hi,
We're having some chronic issues with our corporate Google Apps / Gmail service when used with Mac Mail. Regardless of the OSX version... when it's not one thing it's another. It's nice to see that 10.9.4 finally correctly inserts the proper, full username in the SMTP field for Google Apps users.
We still have some problems where users stop receiving mail silently in the middle of their workday. It wouldn't be such an issue, except that Mac Mail pretends nothing is wrong and suddenly the person realizes they are 3 hours behind on their emails. Magically, quitting and re-opening mail resolves the issue. Even more disturbing, is this article on apple support which lists this stupidity as the official workaround
OS X: New email messages not received until Mail is quit and reopened
I suppose one could argue that Outlook 2011's integration with gmail accounts is even worse. There's something to be said about "AirMail" being the #2 app in all the appstore currently. Clearly Apple and Google aren't putting their best foot forward to make this work.
I guess what I'm looking for is something concrete other than "Restart Mail to get mail coming in again". Is there some workaround to see the connection status to see if something is stalled?

Googles version of an IMAP system works poorly with most clients. If you are going to use it then choosing a client that works the way Google wants them too is a wise course.
Of that breed MailPlane is easily the best, AirMail is a solid second.

  • Mail with gmail stopped working

About a week ago my computer stopped downloading my mail from gmail. I can send mail, but it won't receive new mail. I tried deleting the gmail account and adding it again, but that didn't work. I also tried switching it to IMAP instead of POP, but that didn't work either. When I control+click the gmail account and select get info, it says there are no new messages on the server, but I know there are about 90.
I've tried repairing permissions and that didn't work.
I have another account for my school mail and it still receives and sends emails perfectly. Only the gmail account is giving me trouble.
    Any ideas?

Did you upgrade to 10.5.5 just before it stopped working? In my case, I couldn't SEND mail after upgrading. I had to change the smtp port from default to 465, and then it worked again. My son, who also has a macbook, upgraded to 10.5.5, and is on the same network as I am, had no problem. Strange, right?
Can you try changing the incoming port?

  • Using mac mail with gmail

what i would like to do is this:
when i delete an incoming mail i would like for it to go to all mail with a tag on it for trash later. i don't want it to go right to trash i want to throw the trash away at my discretion. and if the deleted mail are tagged, it's easier to clean up the all mail folder. also, need this to work with mac mail too.
what are the applicable key settings on both side to do this. i am having trouble getting this to happen. thank you.

Try deleting the non working accounts and re-creating them.

  • Using Mail with GMAIL (Pop)

Has anyone experienced the following issue? I have set up my two gmail accounts to work with Mail on my new MacBook and for some reason the Mail program is not receiving all the mail. I know I am getting more mail than what is showing up because GMAIL is also set up to work with my blackberry. My BBerry will jingle with a new email message and then I'll sit there and wait for Mail to receive the message and it will never arrive. I have Gmail set up to work with Outlook on my Dell PC and it is working fine. For some reason all the bloody messages are not making it to my inbox on the MacBook and I can't think what it is. I'm using PoP on the Gmail end because the Imap seemed to slow.

Okay, things are progressing somewhat. Mail has now imported my messages on from my primary account and seems to be okay (using IMAP). I decided to add my secondary gmail account that I use for work related messages and that (also using IMAP) doesn't seem to be working so smoothly. So far Mail has crashed 3 times and had to "re-import" all 13,000+ of my messages. I have no idea why. Also, any mail sent to the second gmail account is not showing up in the primary inbox and isn't giving me a "new mail" notification via the red number that shows up in the top right hand corner of the postage stamp. Any ideas?

  • Mail with Gmail IMAP: All mail getting marked as read

So other than being painfully slow, and just plain irritating, I have one huge problem with Mail (Tiger) and Gmail IMAP. All incoming mail is marked as read. The mail downloads, gets sorted into folders by the various rules, but the folders never show up with a number showing new messages. I have missed so many emails lately, I think I will have to go back to POP...or add a line to every single rule saying "mark as unread".
Is there a simple solution to this problem I am overlooking?
    Thanks...Sam

Yeah, the stupid part is that all SPAM comes marked as unread. So I get to see that I have spam, just not legitimate mail. Ugh.

  • Certificate Error in Mail with Gmail

When I log onto mail 5.2 using Gmail, I get the error "Mail can't verify the identify of pop.gmail.com."  I can continue and use mail, but it tells me that my information may not be secure.  I'm using OS X Lion 10.7.3 and the screens don't match anything online to verify the settings I have, so if someone can provide me with a link that I can verify my mail settings for Gmail, that would be great.
    Thanks.

So long as you use POP access and set Mail not to remove messages from the server under any circumstance. To do this open Mail > Preferences > Accounts and with the GMail account selected click on Advanced and UNcheck "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message".

  • Using mail with Gmail

Just wondering how you import your gmail account so that you can use it with the mail on the bottom task bar. Thanks, Mel

    Melanie,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
If you click on Help in the Gmail pages in your Browser, you will find numerous subjects, one of which is POP access. In that resulting page you will find specific instructions for various types of mail clients, one of which is Apple Mail. You should familiarize yourself with the help topics that are available, but the link for POP access with Apple Mail is:
