Unstable system
Hi.
Im using a Crucial 1g extra ram for rev B. The system usually works well, (I do the test of close the lid and works fine) but when I have heavy work the comp get hot near the ram zone and finally drop the heavy application.
I think it is a bad ram, because if I remove the memory the system is more stable, but Im not sure if it is a normal heat problem or a bad stick, or simply other thing.
Is the system stable with 1 gig extra ram in heavy works?
Its normal so much heat?
Thanks you
Heat sink? That is an interesting revelation. As you may know there are countless posts and threads concerning the powerbook heat (and related fan) problem, especially w/Tiger. The "solutions" posted typically include such things as changing battery and display settings, resetting PMU, uninstalling Virex, archiving and reinstalling Tiger, and even downgrading back to Panther (this last recommendation seems to be gaining traction).
But yours is the first I've seen suggesting the heat is normal...are all the other threads "wrong"?

RX300 HM & artifacts on screen, unstable system
My display has many short aqua and red lines that appear all over the screen. When I'm at the desktop & right click and refresh, they disappear for a few seconds, usually until I move my mouse. This is a problem that occurred right after I built my system, but then disappeared and I thought the problem was solved. It's back after several months.
My system has also become unstable. I get the blue screen of death with the message "The problem seems to be caused by the following file ati2dvag." Sometimes the screen goes black for a few seconds then the following message comes up: "VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands."
I have added no new hardware. I thought the problem may have occurred after I installed McAfee Personal Firewall but uninstalling that seems to make no difference.
So far I have taken the graphics card out and put it back in. I have not uninstalled any drivers nor have I tried to find updated drivers. It's a mystery to me why this problem would suddenly reappear after many weeks of no problems.
rwdI upgraded my power supply. I bought an Enermax EG651P, 550W with 34 amps on the 12v rail. It didn't solve my problem. After installing it, my monitor still had the random light blue lines all over it and it crashed repeatedly. Sometimes, the monitor would simply go to black for a few seconds then come back. I'd get the error message "VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands" and I'd go on trying to work. Sometimes my monitor didn't come back, in which case I pressed reset and brought it back up that way.
In frustration, I uninstalled the Radeon display adapters and removed all ATI programs my machine. I still get a few of those random lines but my system has not crashed since I uninstalled all the software. I'm running on the generic VGA driver that comes with Windows. It's not great, just barely good but at least it's usable.
I have downloaded the latest drivers from the MSI site and from the ATI. When I talked to tech support at MSI, the help desk gave me the location of the drivers so I'm certain I have the latest.
At this point, I'm not sure what to do next. At this point, I'm wondering whether I should try a different VGA card, perhaps one that uses Nvidia drivers. Any other suggestions? -
X48C Unstable system and somtimes booting problems
Bought last week a X48C Platinum Mainboard with the following system configuration:
Intel Q9550 Processor
8 GB GEIL 1333mhz (turbocards installed)
Asus nVidia 9800 GTX Dark Knight
Cardreader and WLAN PCI card also installed.
BIOS Version 7.3
Windows Professional 64bit
Everything works fine, but after a few hours, the OS is going to run unstable and when I reboot the system. The BIOS is posting and after that, the Marvel Adapter is initializing and doesn't boot further. After turning the computer off and turn on it again after 10 minutes, the CMOS is cleared, but Windows is starting again.
I don't know what the problem exactly is, do I need a BIOS flash?
Memory is running on 1,79V and other settings on Auto, so no overclocking.
As said before, Turbocards are also installed.
I hope someone has a solution!Do you use DDR2 or DDR3 ram?

IPad 2 - worked fine with ios6, but since upgrade ios 7 unstable system
Have had to restore many times from iTunes...for no reason, the system just dropped with iTunes icone.
Except that since Saturday 31 may 2014 I get error (9).
Have tried many times on different computers with no result.
The restore procedure stops after having unpacked the ios7, iTunes message "checking restore with Apple..." the iPad shows Apple logo and when the bar starts to fill, the system reloads !Hello, LUNAplus85.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see you have processed some troubleshooting steps already and the issue persists. There are just a couple more that I could recommend. I would also try restoring the device on another known good network.
Configure your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, or 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.

K7T turbo, Geforce2 MX = unstable system
I've got
Duron 700
K7T turbo
Geforce2 MX
320MB ram
and my winXP are very unstable, very offen it reports some errors. don't you have some fix?
I have heard that chips from Nvidia goes wrong on this MBI have the GeForce 2 MMX 64 MB and I have K7T Turbo2 motherboard and it seems to run fine. My OS is Windows 2000 pro.( FULL VERISION). If you installed the update drives for this video card you might have problems I did and I had to redo my whole computer.
K7 TURBO 2
AMD XP 1700+ (COOLERMASTER FAN)
BIOS 3.62 UPDATE ON OCT 24,02
Maxtor 40GB and 10GB hard drive
CDRW and Creative 52X cd-rom
256 MB memory.
300Watts power supply -
MSI P55-GD55 - unstable system
Just built this PC and it's not very stable - experiencing random lockups a few times a day. It's locking up the same way before and after updating everything (Drivers, windows updates, latest bios...etc -screen just freezes - hard reboot required)
Everything in the bios is set to default; CPU temp is good (40C); plenty of wattage (have tried 2 PS's infact).
After doing some searching on here it looks like there's some conflicts with the Corsair RAM - I'm going to do some more searching to see if I should be tweaking the voltage or other settings in the bios to improve stablity.
SPECS:
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Intel Core i5
MSI GeForce 250 GTS
Corsair 2x 2GB DDR3 (1600)
Thermaltake 600 PS
~KevinThe default voltage for DDR3 modules is 1.5V ´+/- 0.075V (this is the industry standard voltage). That is why the BIOS will set it. "PC3-12800 1600Mhz" is an overclocking rating (those modules are actually just DDR3-1333). The voltage increase is necessary to compensate the overclock to DDR3-1600 and yes, it needs to be set manually.

I wonder if this is why several other people were having problems with the new MSI boards and Corsair RAM?
This has nothing to do with the combination of MSI Mainboard and Corsair Modules in particular. Using modules with overclocked speed ratings are likely to cause problems like this on every system. -
Unstable system with two 20" monitors
I recently picked up a new 20" cinema display dor my Dual 1.8 G5 with 1.5 Gigs RAM and the stock GeForce FX 5200, and now the computer keeps crashing. I used to run a clear-type 20" and a little 15" CRT monitor, now I'm using the two 20s. What kind of upgrades do I need to make this work?
G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9)Hi,
The 5200 is pretty marginal for your requirements. Your best bet is to upgrade your video card. I would suggest the most powerful new video card available for your G5, ATI 9800 256MB Mac Edition. It has one DVI and one VGA output, if that suits you.
Regards,
Dave -
I have had this new MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion pre-installed, for a week now, migrating from OS 10.4.11 and installing new software and updates to old. I updated right away to 10.8.2.
Strange things happen:
- Windows and apps open mysteriously
- When I eject a device from the finder window, the window closes??
- Last night, when shutting down, the computer Restarted "Because There Was a Problem." The problem turned out to be with Excel, which wasn't open when I shut down??
I found some discussions about Mountain Lion instability but, they seemed to be back in August. Is this an unstable system or do I have an individual problem?dwb wrote:
One issue you are probably dealing with is the auto-resume function that was new to Lion and thankfully somewhat modified for Mt Lion. When you log in or boot the computer programs that were running when the computer was shut down or logged out are relaunched. Also files that were open in a program when that program was quit will re-open. This behavior can be changed by opening System Preferences, selecting the General Tab and clicking off the Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps option. Also when you log out or shut down you'll see an option in the dialog that pops up to reopen windows when logging back in. Click that off. These two actions should stop the mysterious file and app launching.
If you have a Finder window open to a device and when you eject that device the window does close. There's nothing for it to show any longer.
Are you sure Excel was quit - just because no application windows are open doesn't mean the application isn't running. One kernel panic doesn't mean trouble. One a day certainly does but not an isolated incident.
The box to click in General Prefs has now changed to "Close windows when quitting an Application" and a small explanation underneath says that, when clicked, those windows will not be restored when reopenning an app. I had it checked but am not sure when I did??
I usually keep open a Finder window in order to choose, in the left column, Documents or Applications or Pictures, etc. I expect that to remain and only the device to disappear. Else, I have to reopen the Finder window frequently. I still miss the hierarchal Apple Menu where I could install an alias of my Documents and scan across the entire Documents folder! Even back in OS 7, I had a third party app that would add that capability.
No, I am not 100% certain that Excel was not open. I certainly understand that an app can be open without windows. I frequently leave them that way and, I may have this time. Continuing to think about all this, it could be that all this strange behavior started when I installed MS Office 2011 and was dumb enough to let it Easy Install! God knows what it put on here! I may Uninstall it and do it over with just the wanted applications??
Thanks for your time and help!

Customize system to use less memory
Hi!
I'm a bit disapointed with my macmini. It has been really a hard job work with professional applications such Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc. Course that an iMac should be more appropriated, but sometimes you get what you can. I want to work with MacOS X plataform even if I got to see some "slow-motion", and a multicolor ball, rounding and rounding.
What I do not expect to see is an unstable system with 99% of phisical memory full, most part of the time. Flash closes many times of the day, and I cannot blame it! I also got an iMac 333 with 384Mb of RAM running Panther and it runs all this software, even better (not considering speed, just stability).
What Leopard is doing with memory??? Is there a way to reduce memory usage, dedicating more to applications?Nerowolfe. Well, this is a discussion place - so let's do it!
I agree with you in some points: today I have an old car and I buy it becouse I think ar conditioning is already a basic item, also a security system in Brazil today! Ok, we are not talking about some brand new SUV, but even a small indian car that came with ar is expected to works even with ar turned on.
Let's go back to MacMini. Apple sell it with 1GB. Ok, let's forget Flash, Dreamweaver and Photoshop. Let's call iTunes, iMovie, Safari, Mail and some others small ones. Let's work for 4 - 6 hours. Hummm. At the very end of RAM, the chance of a crash is very high. This is a point.
Another point is that an upgrade from 1 to 4 is brutal force (and expansive). Like a kompressor in an old engine. Something is wrong, but quadruplicating memory it will seams ok. I'd use to do it with PC with Windows. The system may go slow, but may not go down. My iMac 333 with 384MB runs Panther and when I try to open several apps toghether, it becomes VERY slow, but take more time before crashes. I credit that to it's HD, a 7200rpm Barracuda.
I was thinking about a downgrade to Tiger, or put more 1GB and a faster HD. What you think about?
Last (but not list) point: I think operational systems should be customizables to work in old machines in order to generate no more digital garbage - it is also an environmental problem. The ZX and iMac 333 may go to garbage, but any 1GB G4, G5 and even Intel macs may not - there is no space for it anymore! -
10.4.7 very unstable..
I did my update early this morning, and am now regretting it..
Computer locks up completely when running only Safari (ie: light CPU / memory load)
And it absolutely refuses to come out of the screensaver...
Thank you Apple... Anyway to un-upgrade back to 10.4.6 ?"Thanks Apple, you've officially release a steaming turd..."
You, sir, are patently wrong in your assessment. We old duffers see these kinds of comments after EVERY update. Each update is solemnly proclaimed the "worst update ever" by somebody. Just do a search back on previous releases and you'll see. What IS happening is that people with problems have unstable system to begin with or have third party "extensions" installed that break whenever Apple releases a new update. First item of business is to have a complete list of all third party hacks, application "enhancers" (especially Safari enhancers!) and any other goodies one installs because they are "cool". These are the things that screw up an update the quickest. And Apple cannot possibly keep track of and test each of these goodies. Even if they did it's not their responsibility to make sure they work with the new update. Make sure any applications or utilities have certified by their developer as compatible with the new update. The good developers (like Cocktail for example) will have a new version out before the update is released.
Second item of business is to have a stable system to begin with before updating. There are numerous tutorials available here on how to prepare for an update. Fixing problems before an update is much easier than after one as you well know by now.
Thirdly, when Apple recommends an update for all users it means just that. The 10.4.7 update addresses a number of security issues, improves stability, and increases performance. Every Tiger user SHOULD be updating to 10.4.7.

Howdy all,
I ran into some big time problems last week with this rig......basically a continuation of an unstable system since first building it in May, to completely screwed up and un-bootable last week. However, after visiting these forums was I able to get my system back up running again after changing out the CMOS battery and PSU, that and also going from the POS v1.9 BIOS to a syar modded v1.8.
Since then system has run smooth as butter. Being that I went thru so much hell in getting this rig up and running again, I decided to check my Ram (2x512 Corsair XMS.....CMX512 3200C2PT in slots 1 and 2) out using MemTest86 1.65. This is where I happened upon a curious thing and wondering if the guru's here can explain this to me. When I had my system tested, I had the following settings (2, 3, 3, 7 @ 1T), I came up with one error on test 7 (saying 99.1 MB.....bad 692b39ec), this happened twice in 4 passes.
Yet when I plugged in (2.5, 3, 3, 6 @ 1T...checked the Corsair site for recommended settings for this board), my system went thru 8 passes without one error. Thought great.....system is good, rebooted and could not get to Windows. Immediately BSOD'd with IRQL_something, something error. Rebooted again with (2.5, 3, 3, 7 @ 1T) and got same BSOD's.....tried relaxing timings even more (did this a number of times) but still could never get into Windows.
Now the curious thing, I rebooted again and changed my timings back to (2, 3, 3, 7 @ 1T) and not only did Windows boot up, but rig is running very smooth. I thought AMD had to have 2.5 on the Cas# to run properly.......can someone explain this to me? That and why the errors in MemTest with a 2 Cas# and not 2.5 Cas#? This perhaps the BIOS being modded? Not that I am gonna change..lol, system is running too good now. I am writing what I had in my Cell Menu on both tests.......only thing I changed were the ram timings.
-Mem Clock.................200
-High Performance.......manual
-Aggressive Timing.......disabled
-NV/ATI Speed Up.......auto
-Dram drive strength....normal
-Dynamic Overclocking..disabled
-Spread Spectrum........disabled
-HT Freq.....................4x
-Cool and Quiet............disabled
-PCI Clock Autodetect..enabled
-Adjust CPU Ratio........startup
-Adjust CPU FSB Freq...225
-Adjust AGP Freq.........67
-Adjust CPU Vid...........startup
-CPU Voltage..............by CPU vid
-Mem Voltage.............2.70v
-AGP Voltage..............1.55v
*********EDIT***********
I also seemed to have lost my flopyy drive as well......this thing is only a day old and had used it yesterday to reflash the BIOS. Only today it will not work, but it is showing up in Windows and the BIOS.....but will not work in DOS nor Windows. I checked BIOS settings and made sure controller was enabled (which it was), so not sure what is up......any ideas? I can live without it for a stable system.....lol.Mem Voltage.............2.70v could have somethings to do with it . Use atleast 2.75 . Even if BIOS say 2.70v doesn't neccesary mean that
voltage is real after passing the voltage regulators . Take it up 0.05v to compensate for mobo variation .
FSB 225 with :
-Adjust CPU Ratio........startup
-Adjust CPU FSB Freq...225
-Adjust CPU Vid...........startup
-CPU Voltage..............by CPU vid
means a 225mhz overclock of the CPU and the memory overclocked also to DDR450 . Yet you have no CPU voltage bump .
I recommend using the fixed values for cpu-ratio=10x and cpu-vid=1.45v instead of the startup , CPU voltage perhaps +3% .
Since mem is overclocked to DDR450 consider 2.80v also .
Other than that , there has been some combination that hates running cas#3 , but a mix between cas 2.0 & cas 2.5 i have never heard
that should be any problems with corsairs . -
[865PE/G Neo2 Series] Memory timings and power settings anyone?
I'm not very good with computers, so I've just played around with the timings on my memory, but have not found one stable setting as of yet.
The memory is brand new and I've tested it for errors on my brothers computer and there's nothing wrong there.
Intensive harddrive usage, dvd playing and intense downloading while listening to music are sure ways to crash my system. "..........Not less or equal" is the most common error message, but there are
many many more.
Oh, maybe I should point out that overheating's not an issue, cause I've good fans and run my computer without sidepanels.
I also like to say that I have the first generation of p4 with ht and 533fsb.
I'm sure there's something I forgot to mention but here below I'll paste the system summary that Sandra gave me.
Would be forever grateful if someone could help me out with the memory timings and power settings for my board. Setting it to "auto by spd" gives me a very unstable system, so no avail there.
I'm running the mem at 2.70 and sometimes at 2.65, since these two settings seem to be the ones with least crashes.
The Memory installed are 4*512mb ,kingston 512 kvr333x64c25 pc2700
The PSU is a Tagan "TG480-u01" 480w
Many many thanks in advance guys.

K7T266 Pro R and Geforce 2 GTS problem
Hello everyone. I have been experiencing a problem for some time now regarding lockups and crashes caused by my video card, which vary in severity depending on the driver version used. Since I'm using an MSI K7T266 Pro Raid mobo (version 1) I thought I'd post my question here.
The exact problem depends on the driver version. Using any Nvidia Detonator drivers at version 40 or newer, my system becomes extremely unstable. On first booting everything seems fine, however if I try to open my Geforce display properties the Windows freezes during the redraw of the display properties window, which goes blank. Sometimes I can call up Close Programs Dialog, which shows DDHELP in the list, and [not responding]. I've never actually gotten an error message from DDHELP or any other error message -- perhaps the computer jams too hard for Windows to get one up. I've seen reports around the Net about DDHELP problems from things like DirectX 8.1, but they're never quite like my problem. The problem is identical on DirectX 8.0, 8.1, and on 9.0.
No matter what I try to do in Windows with these drivers installed, the computer will lock up in seconds. For example, if I then open IE 5.5, I might be able to get as far as a page or two before the similar thing happens: during the window redraw the computer locks up (usually with a blank or partially-redrawn window), sometimes causing the mouse to lock and sometimes not, and then if I can get the Close Program Dialog open DDHELP has appeared and is Not Responding.
The most stable driver version I've found so far is 29.42, which does not cause the lockup above and never causes DDHELP to appear. However, it is quite unstable as well, and causes Windows to lock up sporadically during 2D window redraws in various programs. For example, when calling up a Save Document dialog or when opening a pulldown menu the program will lock either before any of the redraw becomes visible on screen or when the new dialog box is "skeletal", only partially drawn. Sometimes the crash is severe enough that I have to do a cold restart on my system.
The other problem is that sporadically garbage blocks will appear in portions of my screen, like old windows and color bands popping up that do not refresh. This often happens to me in Photoshop 6, and happens usually when I'm scrolling down a window or something.
These problems with version 29.42 all appear to be 2d window-drawing related. I do not have any problems with 3d games with 29.42. However, the new reference drivers are so unstable on my system that I can't even try to open them.
With 29.42, the most stable drivers I've found so far, some kind of lockup due to redrawing windows almost always occurs within an hour (sometimes minutes) of booting up.
For what it's worth, dxdiag tests just fine.
I was hoping someone could help me figure out what's causing the trouble, what driver I should use, and how to resolve it. If possible, I'd really like to use the newer drivers as I've been told they're much faster. In any event, I hate having such an unstable system where lockups could occur at any moment!
Here's the lowdown of my system:
-MSI K7T266 Pro Raid [1] mobo (MS-6380)
AMIBIOS date: 5/1/2001
VIA 4in1 drivers version 4.45
ACPI power management disabled
PnP Aware OS enabled

-AMD Athlon 1.33 gb with 266 mhz FSB
-Asus AGP-V7700 (Geforce 2 GTS) 32 mb
AGP 4X, Fast Write enabled, Aperture size 128 mb
current drivers: Nvidia reference 29.42 (also 40+)
on IRQ11 (shares with my Ethernet card)
BIOS version 2.15.01.14
-Windows 98SE
-DirectX 9.0 (also tried 8.1 etc)
-Soundblaster Live! 5.1 on slot 3, drivers from 5/2002
-Viewsonic PF790 monitor
-C drive is 30gb Western Digital 7200rpm, FAT32
-D drive is Raid 0 striped array, pair of 40gb 7200rpm
-Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet Adapter on slot 5
-no memory resident programs on loadup except for WinPoET, Explorer, Systray
If there's anything I've left out that could help, let me know!
Thanks to anyone in advance,
