Unsuccessful Upgrade to JRE 6u02

I have repeatedly tried to install jre 6u2 and failed using both the online and offline versions.
Each attempt results in the following message:
The software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it? When I click on yes it goes through : Preparing to remove. Then again results in the same message as above. If I click yes it recycles finally stopping. However, the update is not installed. It does not show up in the Add/Remove list in Windows Control panel.
I have also tried removing all references to JRE or Java using regedit and searching all folders on my computer. I am using ZoneAlarm Security Suite, but I have tried installing upgrade 2 with ZA turned off. None of these approaches have succeeded after many attempts.
I am using Windows XP Home Version OS and installing or removing jre 6u1 operates successfully. Because I could not upgrade to JRE 6u02 I did successfully install JRE 1.60.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

There was just one reply with suggestions on how to successfully accomplish the upgrade. Unfortunately, after following the suggestions the upgrade still could not be successfully achieved. I still need some assistance in installing the upgrade. I would appreciate any assistance that anybody can offer.

  • Jinitiator too low 1.1.8.2 when upgrading to jre 1.7.0.45 - alternative solution??

    Hi all,
There was a recent post on the above subject for which the solution was found to be as below:
I searched and got the fix for the error -  Jinitiator too low 1.1.8.2 when upgrading to jre 1.7.0.45
    Fix:
Put the following value in the Runtime parameter of jre 1.7.0.45  in control panel -> java 32 bit icon -> java(tab) -> view
    -Djava.vendor="Sun Microsystems Inc."
Thereafter, I was able to access the forms/applications in a new browser.
Question:  Isn't there any alternative solution that jre 1.7.0.45 resolves by itself without putting in the above parameter in the java(tab) -> view and allows to open the applications?
Please share if anyone has an alternative fix to the above? Reason being we need to pass on the above information for the setup to all the business users what was found as above.
    Thank You for your time

    Hi,
As far as I know that is the simplest solution you have. If not you have to match the client JRE with the Server JRE.
But a workaround would be, If all the users are in a specific group of a domain you may follow the below link to set the environment variable for the same group:
Windows domain-wide setting of Environment Variables at Logon - No Fluff Just Stuff

    Hello all,
we have an applet application that host in IIS 7.0 with integrated windows authentication.
With JRE 1.6 we call the html page with the applet whithout authentication required popup.
Since we upgrade to JRE 7 we get alway a popup "Authentication Required" Enter login details to access <default> on xxx.arcplan.com/10.52.10.25:
Click to cancel the popup and the applet load normal.
In IE 9.0 the loading time take to long after cancel the popup.
It is a big issue and We urgently need a solution for this problem.
We use firefox 12 and IE 9.0
I appreciate for every solution and comment

It seems to be the same behaviour as descibed here: NTLMv2 authentication on proxy server (MS ISA 2006)
Do you also have a proxy server / firewall in usage?

  • Web Start Application fails after upgrade to JRE 1.6.0_u33

I have a production application that uses java web start for deployment. All has gone well, but we are experiencing problems when testing upgrading to the latest JRE update 1.6.0_u33.
The application is composed of several jar files, all of which are signed with a code signing certificate. However, after updating the JRE, I receive the error :
    #### Java Web Start Error:
    #### Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system
Unsigned resource: the first jar file in my jnlp
This is a pretty odd error, since the jar is definitely signed. I can find it in the webstart cache and run jarsigner -verify against it and it verifies successfully.
If I remove the application and reinstall it, everything works fine, but this is a pretty unacceptable solution for thousands of users, many of which are not very technical.
Does anyone have any solutions or has anyone encountered the same problem? It is currently a showstopper for us to taking this new JRE update which contains some critical security updates we would like to have implemented.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi
I have seen this post a little bit late, but... We have also encountered such issue.
There is another workaround than ask people to empty the java web start cache.
In order to force the end user's computer to download again you application entirely, we have signed again ALL the jar files and uploaded them to our server.
That works well but... if somebody download the "new" files and upgrades java to 1.6_0_33 afterwards... same issue will appear again.
Please observe that the traffic in this forum has started to decrease strongly. That's not amazing when you see that you cannot count on this product.
Java web start has never worked correctly and that for a long time. This one suffers of numerous bugs and regressions. We should rather call it Java Nightmare Neverstart
    It's a shame.
Sun has been acquired by Oracle but that does not seem change anything.

  • Problems upgrading to JRE 1.4.2_06

HI, I'm an application for tradingonline and it requires Java Web Start. Evrything worked well before upgrading with j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p.exe.
After upgrade my application gets blocked at login phase.
I use Java Web Start 1.4.2_06 (build b03) and in fiel preferences I get problem if under java I flag the runteime environment 1.4.2_06 while everything works correctly flagging only the older 1.3.1_01. I heard the application I use is evolving and in a short time it will loose compatibility with JRE 1.3 so I need to solve this issue. No effective help for the time being from the technical suport of the applciation developers, they don't understand why this happens as it seems I'm the only customer having this problem.
I registered java log activity in a txt file and noticed differences when using JRE 1.3 and trying with 1.4.
Before posting useless information please let me know if you feel there is a way to debug my problem, I will follow the issue trying to give as many infos as possible.
    Thanks, bye

HI, thanks for your answer. I have 2 computers attached to a router. Both computers are equipped with kerio personal firewall and the router has a firewall itself. Due to conflict I always keep kerio disabled. To check if the router's firewall is guilty I simply detached a PC from it and connected thorugh ISDN on a stand alone, same problem, on the other computer I disinstalled kerio, cleaned up the registry from all kerio traces and tried again with the same problem, login succesful with 1.3, no way to get in with 1.4.
Here below I paste part of the logs:

  • Batch upgrading client JRE's over Windows network

Does anyone know of a tool or method that can be used to force/exert upgrade of windows client JREs on all machines within a domain/network? This prob won't be anything to do with java, and rather it will most likely be a admin tool used to rollout any application over windows networks. Just thought someone might have used it for java.

You can use the login script, SMS, Zenworks, Footprint, Altiris, Orbiter, AD policies, Managesoft, or any other systems management software. Some of these are better suited for large organizations but others work well within a smaller group. Talk to your systems/network administrator? They can't all be rabid.
The key is to create a completely silent installation. Here's the install string for jre 1.4.2_01. If you paste this into a command prompt (ensuring that your either use the full path to the exe file, or make that directory active), it will install silently with all defaults. Using one of the tools above, you can update every machine in your organization.
    j2re-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe /S /V"/qr /l %LOGDIR%\J2RE-1.4.2_01\JRE142.log REBOOT=SUPPRESS ALLUSERS=1"
Make sure the %logdir% is created prior to running this string.
    Hope this helps,
    Margaret

  • How can potential users of JFX2.0 easily (seamlessly) upgrade their JRE?

    Hello,
Is there a way for a user to easily upgrade to JRE7? I am considering how can I release some JFX2.0 to the masses if they will not be able to easily upgrade. Is there a link they can be forwarded to or maybe a an autoupgrade setting in the JNLP/applet?
I had upgraded to JDK 7, so I had both JRE6 and 7 installed. JRE6 is my default, so when I launched a JFX2.0 JNLP it failed, telling me that I do not have JE7 and that it cannot install it. I had to right click on the JNLP file and change the properties to use JRE 7. This does not make for a comforting user experience.
    thanks
    jose

How you want to distribute and run your application?
Does your application really need JRE7?
To answer your specific question options to upgrade to JRE7 are:
    1) manually download and install from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk-7u4-downloads-1591156.html
    2) specify in JNLP that JRE7 is needed
(need to edit <j2se> version in jnlp file)
    3) specify in the HTML page that JRE7 is needed
(specify jvm requirements for the platform - http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/deployment/deployment_toolkit.htm#sthref41)
However, if all you need is to deploy javafx application and your application does not really need JRE7 by itself then recommended strategy is:
    1) rebuild your application with javafx 2.1 (this will make javafx 2.1 minimum required version of javafx)
    2) distribute result package (build by packager or ant task), it should have embedded support for guiding user to install javafx 2.1 and jre if upgrade is needed
JavaFX 2.1 and JRE 7u4 have many bugs fixed in the installation/registration code and this should improve stability.
Also, latest JRE6 updates are JavaFX aware and should not corrupt JavaFX installation on Java autoupdate.

  • Upgrade to JRE 1.5.0.06 SDK AppletViewer Not Working & Missing

    HELP!!
I recently updated my JRE to 1.5.0.06 and since installation, I cannot execute any JAVA Applets - I cannot even verify the installation. In the /bin directory I notice that the appletviewer.exe is missing.
When the applet loads, all i see is the java logo. Closing the "General Exception" dialog gives me the little red X and a message in the status bar that says "Applet <applet name> notinited".
I have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times to no avail! Any clues - classpath?, etc, anything will help right now!
    Willie!

This is because not every applet is embedded with an applet tag. The IE setting was used to switch between MSJVM and SUN Java Plugin for applet tags.
(Lot of pages use the object tag as recommended by w3c.)

  • Error : Upgradation to JRE 1.5

    Hi.
I am using Java 1.3.1 for a Java applets coded exclusive for IE .The web appliaction server i am using is
Weblogic 7.0 or more.Things were working good until i use JRE 1.3.1/JRE1.4 on the client side(note: i am using
java 1.3.1 JVM on the machine where i run the weblogic server. All applets are compiled using Java 1.3.1).When
i used JRE 1.5 on the Client machine i encounter a new error message on the client side as
"java.lang.exception:Java.lang.NullPointerException.", but application runs unharmed. The same error comes in
the Java applet console also of the Java 1.5 client machine.
    More details:
We are using JMS for subscribing the JSP pages across the application .We are suspecting a problem with the
JMS methods and the other communication channels from Java Applet to JavaScript (this technique is mainly
used for sending the error message to the client ), we use "eval" and "call"
methods of "netscape.javascript.*"Also that we did not find any error's due to the Applet.
We are suspecting these are the main areas where the error might arise from.
Or is this bug due to the JRE 1.5 version change at the client side?.
We'll be very greatful if anyone can provide an explanatory answer for this.
    Thankyou..
    Aryabhat

    Venkatesh,
There should not be any issues with running WLS 4.5.1 with SunSoft SDK
1.3.0. This is a certified configuration.
BEA recommends using this SDK with Sun Microsystems SPARC with Solaris
    2.6 and 2.7.
    Hope this helps

Does anyone know the proper installations steps when upgrading from JRE SUN j2re-1_3_1_12 to 1.3.1_19?
SAP has instructed that the US DST 2007 changes are reflected in the new JDK and we should update our JRE accordingly.

  • Developer 6i upgrade patch 19 JRE doubt

As part of the Developer 6i patch 19 You have to follow the Doc 290807.1 to upgrade Sun JRE
I was reading the following section
Step 2. Rename the JRE Plug-in and Place it on Webserver
Rename the downloaded JRE Native plug-in file from jre-6_uX-windows-i586-p.exe to j2se160X.exe
(Where X = the version number. (For single digit version numbers, please prefix the version number with a zero). Using jre-6u7 as an example X would be 07, so the file would be renamed j2se16007.exe).
Step 2.1.1. Place the JRE 6 Plug-in on the Web Application Tier
Move the j2se160X.exe file to the web application tier and place it in $[COMMON_TOP]/util/jinitiator.
    I have a few doubts.....
