"Unsupported Device" nonsense

I am more than a little bit angry when I plug a Lightning cable or wall charger into my new iPhone 6 and it tells me that either or both are 'unsupported devices.' I'm not talking about those cheap, Chinese knockoffs. I expect Apple to 'protect and serve' by forbidding them. I'm talking about legitimate 3rd Party cables and adapters that were 'approved' originally but now are made useless. I paid GOOD MONEY to buy these things, playing by the rules. And it seems that every iPhone/iOS update is REALLY designed not to make my experience better...but to force me to buy ONLY Apple-brand cables and adapters.
Case in point: I have three cables and two adapters that DID work, but aren't working now. The obvious implication? Apple obsoleted these devices and made them useless. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Check the lightning port to make sure there isn't any "fluff" in it, and make sure the cable plugs are clean.  If they have worked in the past, it could be a bad connection.

  • 2013 Honda Civic Si, SMS Text Message Function says "Unsupported Device" when trying to use this feature with iPhone 5. Can anyone help with this?

In my 2013 Honda Civic Si, I'm trying to use the SMS Text Message Function, but keep getting the error message, "Unsupported Device".
I use an iPhone 5 with latest iOS 6.1.4.
HandsFreeLink works perfectly fine with my iPhone for voice calls and for streaming Bluetooth Audio. Does text messaging not work because of iMessage? Does anyone have any suggestions for this issue?
    Thanks in advance!

In looking for a 2013 Honda Civic (LX model, no Navi), the text feature was very interesting and important to me. Why not have my texts available on the dash and read to me rather than messing with my phone. Anyway I won't go into the whole thing about safety while you're in your driving and all that. We all know what we should and shouldn't do. Anyways...
I spoke to a salesman who said that this feature was not compatible with the iPhone, only BBs. Of course this didn't impress me and I found it hard to believe that Honda would restrict themselves like that. Anyway, a few searches on the web later and Honda shows that the iPhone 4, 4S and 5 are compatible for receiving texts through the car, just not sending them. I believe you need a minimum of iOS 5+ for it to work though.
Once I found this the salesman and I did some testing with our phones. He has a 4S with iOS 6.1.3 and mine is a 4 with iOS 6.1.3. Initially we setup the phone using the Bluetooth config on the Civic's iMID display. It was setup and hands-free calling tested o.k. Next the texting was tested. Both of us have iMessage turned on. Neither of us could get the messages we would send each other (1 of us had our phone setup with the car, the other sent the text and vice versa). The messages were received by the phones, just not the car). When we would go under the Text Message section, it would say "Unsupported Device". I knew that couldn't be as Honda said it was compatible. After more web searches and a phone call to Honda by the salesman, I found the following.
    1) It seems like the person who had their phone paired with the Civic had to disable iMessage to start getting texts. The salesman still had it enabled on his though when he sent me texts (as SMS) and the Civic got them so both people aren't necessarily required to disable it. Now under the Text Message section, it would list the messages received.
    2) I changed the Notifications on my phone for Messages from Banner to Alerts. Once I did this it started to work. The texts were showing up on the car. I had read where another person had tried this successfully but then changed it back to Banner and it continued to work. I experienced the same thing.
Granted this wasn't extensive testing but I was able to get it to do something closer to what I wanted. I'm not sure why Apple and Honda can't put their heads together to make sending texts work on the car but maybe someday it will work when enough people complain. It's kind of a disappointment that I couldn't get iMessage to work but I haven't given up hope yet. As it's a proprietary protocol, I can see Honda not supporting it though.
    Hope this helps someone out!
    FYI I bought car!

  • Unsupported device type

After a power outage OSB has lost the ability to use two of its three tapes drives. I've hard rebooted the library. I've pulled the power cord on the library. The OSB server has been rebooted multiple times. I've tried putting the drives out of service and bringing them back up. When going to the Configure -> Device - Tape2 (or Tape3) I see this message at the top of the screen/
no hardware info is available for drive tape2 - unsupported device type (not tape or library)
no hardware info is available for drive tape3 - unsupported device type (not tape or library)
Transcripts of jobs show these errors:
Error: can't open device tape3 - device file not found (OB scsi device driver)
Error: can't open device tape2 - unsupported device type (not tape or library) (OB scsi device driver)
I'm not sure what to do. All the tape drives are the same so obviously the drivers exist. How do I get these drives working again?
    Thanks.

    What OS are you running?
It sounds like the device attach points have moved. If this is a Linux system then you can do "obtool lsdev -l" to see what /dev/sg entry your devices are looking at, and then do "sg_map -x -i" to see what /dev/sg your devices are really using. Then you can update the device attach points to point to the correct entry using "obtool chdev -a"
    For example :
    obtool lsdev -l

  • C2960 Web Catalyst Device Manager switch view shows "Unsupported Device"

    Hi All,
I`ve setup many C2960 switches over the years but this one has me stumped.
I`ve configured a brand-new out of the box Cisco C2960+24pc-l using the same procedure used on our other switches but when accessing the Web GUI the view that should show a picture of the switch and port status just shows a grey block with "Unsupported Device".
I`ve tried it from IE, Chrome and firefox and XP plus Win7 PCs to no avail.
Am I missing something or do I need to send this switch back for warranty replacement?
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
    Many thanks,
    Paul

  • My Universal Card Reader is an "Unsupported Device"...Why?

I was excited to receive a 30G iPod as a Christmas gift and was further excited to have the ability to transfer my digital photos to my iPod (while traveling) for storage and review. However, I'm having difficultly setting this up properly. My iPod works fine except for this one hitch.
I purchased a "Mass Storage" (as recommended by the Apple website) Universal Card Reader (Promaster model# 1680), but when I connect it to my newly purchased Camera Connector all I get is a message on my iPod telling me it’s an “unsupported device”. What am I doing wrong???
An interesting note…according to the Apple website one needs iPod photo software 1.1 or later to use a Camera Connector. According to my iPod Updater software I am up-to-date with software version 1.0. Am I missing something???
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

My digital camera is an older Olympus model (C3000Z). It does have a USB cable and can connect and upload directly to my computer. But I was looking for something to use while traveling.
My camera is not supported by the Camera Connector (per the Apple website and my own attempt). The supported device listing on the Apple website (best I can tell) only lists cameras, not card readers….so I presumed any card reader that used Mass Storage would work (per the website’s notes on importing protocol).
Can you recommend a Smart Media Card Reader that is supported by the Apple Camera Connector?

  • Unsupported device message for Nikon D70

I just bought a new iPod and camera connector today, and it is calling my camera an "unsupported device". The D70 is listed as a supported device on the official Apple list on the web site.
    Any suggestions?
Connecting via the camera USB cable to the camera connector to the iPod, no computer involved.

Just in case anyone finds this thread and is looking for the same answer, I needed to switch the firmware USB setting to mass storage in the setup menu of the camera, and then the iPod happily downloaded the jpg and RAW file together.
Now I have to get them off the device, and iPhoto does not see the iPod. More stupid little steps....

  • IOS 7 upgrade caused my Honda Stereo to be an unsupported device??

I have an iPhone 5 which I just upgraded from iOS6 to iOS 7.  I usually connect my iPhone 5 to the USB port on my 2011 Honda CR-Z.  It would connect to the stereo system before without any problem, but since the upgrade to iOS7, it is an "unsupported device??"
    Any help would be appreciated.

    2009 Honda Civic EX-L and an iPhone 4 w/ iOS 7.
My iPhone Music Library, steaming radio, or Spotify will play for a while, then it stops & I see a flashing "unsupported" or "unsupported version" or "unsupported device" message. If I unplug the iPhone from the USB (either phone end or car end) it comes back briefly but always errors out after a few minutes. I had the same issue with iOS 6.whatever but not as often.
So, my question is, does it work or doesn't it? Seems like if it were unsupported or had something to do with the stream or bit rate of the music files, etc. it just wouldn't work. The fact that it works for a while then stops leads me to believe there's some other issue.
Also, this goes back earlier than iOS 7, as I'm seeing posts where people are trying to solve the same issue with iOS 6 and vehicles other than Hondas.
Regardless, it's frustrating as **** and has doomed me to the land of top 40 radio during my hour/hour & a half commute...  HELP!!!

  • WS-C2960S-48TS-L showing as unsupported device in CNA 5.5

I have set up a new switch, I can connect to it thru a web browser or telnet to it thru the network, but when I try to connect to it thru CNA 5.5 I can connect without a problem but it shows up as an unsupported device and I can't do any configurations to it.  I am able to configure other 2950, 2960, and 3560 devices without an issue but this is the first 2960s model I have worked with.  Is there an issue between CNA and this model that needs to be addressed?  The 2960s is running the latest IOS.

seems like Cisco does not like answering any questions posted on here
Firstly, there are two types of people who posts here.  They are people with issues/problems and those who can provide solutions.  Now these people who provide solutions do not necessarily work for Cisco (just want to point it out).  Cisco created this website to allow the sharing of informations and solutions for those who don't have, for instance, a Cisco TAC access.  Unfortunately not everyone is an expert in every field (like me).
The Cisco 2960S is a fairly new product (released on April or May 2010, if I recall).  However, if you look at the age of the latest version of Cisco Network Assistant (CNA), version 5.5, was released waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back September 2009.   This is like, in my humble opinion, using Office 2010 on a Windows 98 OS.
Another thing is that not all of us are avid users of CNA.  We are "old school" and use the CLI to configure Cisco appliance as it's more robust and offers a helluvalot functionalities and features.
If contact your authorized Cisco reseller or Cisco SE, you can ask them when the next release for CNA will be.
This post is not meant to offend, criticize and/or insult anyone here.  It's not meant to be demeaning, offensive or condescending.  This post is just a personal opinion.
    Hope this helps.

  • CNA 5.7 & 2960G Unsupported Device

When I use Cisco Network Assistant 5.7 to access my 2960G it comes up as Unsupported Device. The 2960G has been on the CNA supported device list for a few revisions. All my web searching doesnt show any solutions to this problem.  Any thoughts?
    Setup:
    Switch: WS-C2960G-24TC-l
    IOS: 12.2(35)SE5
    CNA: 5.7
    HTTP Enabled
    Telnet works
HTTP access is buggy but works
    Thanks

Cisco support was able to provide me with a one time download link for DCNM 6.3(2) and the error still persists there. So maybe this isn't an issue of using old software but something else.
In the device name field I'm putting the IP of our network switch. Is that what we're supposed to use or is that expecting something else?
    Thanks

  • Nano 6th generation I attached the motorola D650 bluetooth adapter and it says unsupported device... Any suggestions?

Nano 6th generation and i connected the motorola D650 bluetooth adapter and it says unsupported device?  Any suggestions, this should work as Apple told me it would and instruction manual for headphones specifically mentioned Ipod.
    Thanks

I've heard that there are some Ipod adapters out that will work with this trick but it would be nice if anyone knew a way to make this adapter work. I think it is a popular trick since the adapter from oakley that does work is now on back order.

    Who is your carrier? AT&T?
With AT&T you will need Service Books pushed to the device to enable, which ATT does not.
