"Unsupported image format"- Has nothing to do with RAW images-

I have a very weird problem with one of my Aperture 3 libraries. This only seems to apply to one library, all the others I tested seem to work just fine.
This library was created on my MBA and transfered to my iMac when I returned from my trip. It worked fine until yesterday.
When I open an image (thumbnail looks just fine) the photo briefly shows the large view with the "Loading" indicator at the top. When the loading indicator goes away the photo is replaced with the "Unsupported image  format" display. After that the thumbnail is gone too. This happens for most, but not all images in this gallery. I can restore the thumbnail and other previews from the raw NEF photos by choosing "Reprocess Original".
I have already tried all the options the Aperture debug menu offers (start with Option-Command), this didn't help…
When I open the library in the Finder (Show package contents) I can drill down to the "Previews" folder and see the photos that Aperture wont display. They seem jsut fine and all file permissions seem to be set correctly…
Has anyone ever experienced this problem? I really don't know what else i could try, short of deleting this library and importing all the images into a new one, losing all my edits, of course… Super annoying…
Thanks and kind regards, Hans
Edit: The raw photos are from my Nikon D700, which has been supported by the RAW importer since forever. i dont think that has anything to do with the original files, especially since Aperture can recreate the previews from the raws…

There has been problems with the last Raw update released a few days ago especially with Nikon cameras.
Have you updated your system software in the last day or so? Is it possible you updated on one system but not another.
And for what its worth norbertmuc's question was  valid from a troubleshooting standpoint. If something worked at one point and stop working at a second point it is fair to ask what happened between those two points. He might have been a bit brusque but I don;t think he was accusing you of anything.
And of course there are many things you can do to a library to break it.

The USB cord needed to transfer photos from my iPhone 5 to Windows XP has nothing to do with the charging cord which appears to have an USB 'end', but apparantly is not, as it will not fit into any USB port on my PC?

An iPhone 5 comes with a single cable. It is a USB to Lightning connector cable that is used for charging, for syncing, and for transferring photos from the Camera Roll to your computer. There is no separate cable for charging.

hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by malware on your pc. please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • Working with RAW images without lens profile?

Does it make sense to work on RAW images if no lens profile exist for the used specific lens?
I see clear differences between RAW and JPG image in means of distortion.
How did you work with RAW images?

There are many advantages to using RAW, so yes it makes sense to work on RAW images even if no profile exists for the lens.
I see clear differences between RAW and JPG image in means of distortion.
How did you work with RAW images?
You can create your own lens profiles. Or you can manually adjust each image. Or you can set up presets for different focal lengths. There's a lot of ways to go.

  • Does CS6 raw image converter also support PowerShot G1X MKII raw images?

I recently bought an PowerShot G1X MKII and always work with raw images. I have CS5 which does not support those raw images. Before upgrading to CS6 I wonder if anybody has experience with opening PowerShot G1X MKII raw images using ACR in CS6.

I just checked the supported camera list published by Adobe. It indicates that there is preliminary support for that camera in the latest version of Camera Raw. That version will not be compatible with Photoshop CS5. But you could download the DNG converter version 8.4 and convert those raw files to the DNG format and use them with what you already have. You could purchase Photoshop CS6 and install Camera Raw 8.4 and have support for your camera, albeit preliminary support. But new features that have been added to Camera Raw since the introduction of Photoshop CC will not be available to you. But since you don't have those features now that probably wouldn't matter. You could also add Lightroom to your workflow, turning to Photoshop CS5 when needed.  Here is a link to the Adobe webpage that lists camera support:

  • "Unsupported Image Format" all of a sudden, with previously workable files

    Folks,
I've got an issue that seems very strange indeed.
Months ago, I bought a Pentax K20D. I also bought a 17" MacBook Pro and Aperture. Camera and Aperture played well together.
I encountered the known issue with white spots on the image when using the 2-second timer for long exposures. I read about how the Pentax firmware update 1.01 changed the EXIF Make information, causing Aperture to be unable to read the K20D PEF RAWs. So I waited.
When Aperture 2.1.1 was released (and I think the Apple RAW update), I installed both of those. When I heard through this forum that the updates fixed the problem, I also updated my camera's firmware and confirmed that it worked.
So smooth sailing for a few months on Aperture 2.1.1, OS 10.5.3 (or .4, I forget), and K20D firmware 1.01.
Then I bought a Mac Pro 8-Core with 10.5.4 on it. I sold the 17" MacBook Pro. I used the Migration Wizard to move my user account from one machine to the other, but did a fresh install of all applications. (I've been an Apple tech for the past 7 years, and have various certifications. I know the user transfer process isn't perfect, but it should have the following results... read on)
Now, in Aperture 2.1.1 on 10.5.4 with all updates, PEF RAWs taken with K20D firmware 1.01 that were previously edited, manipulated, etc just fine on my MacBook Pro say "Unsupported Image Format" in a big reddish-black box when I try to view the master. If I switch to Quick Preview, it displays just fine, but is un-adjustable. Additionally, any NEW images I copy from my K20D show in the Import window as being 0x0 pixels (or occasionally 160x120 pixels) and will only show a tiny preview or "Unsupported Image Format." All PEF RAWs taken with K20D firmware 1.0 are just fine.
    So here's what I've done:
    1) Tested a fresh install of 10.5.4 on another HD in the Mac Pro. Installed Aperture 2.1, updated to 2.1.1. This should be perfectly clean. It gives the "Unsupported Image Format" error with any new images from my K20D. Copying the library from my other partition gives the same problems as described earlier.
    2) Tested a fresh install of 10.5.3 on another partition in a Macbook Pro. Installed Aperture 2.1, updated to 2.1.1. Applied the Apple RAW update and iLife enhancements. It gives the same errors as before.
    3) Tested a fresh install of 10.4.11 on another partition in a Macbook Pro. Installed Aperture 2.1, updated to 2.1.1. This worked perfectly for all PEFs and DNGs.
    4) Took a month-old backup (from when everything was working just fine) of my Aperture Library and loaded it into all of the above configurations. Same results!
So what is the deal here? Aperture all of a sudden can't read images that it itself was able to edit a month ago? How come it works just fine in 10.4.11? This seems really messy. I have essentially lost a lot of the work I've put in.
I can use DNGs moving forward, but my past work is now messed up, and the DNGs are almost 75% bigger than the PEFs!
Anyone have any ideas for resolution or should I just call Apple?

If it's any consolation, I had the EXACT same problem today; just opened Aperture 2 and my entire library of images shows "unsupported image format' -- the thumbnails are still intact but clicking on any image suddenly shows the red screen.
Same situation, these images were previously editable and accessible. We had a power outage an hour ago and initially I thought my library had crashed, but I was not actually using Aperture 2 at the time of the outage so I don't think that's the case.
Given the relatively sparse attention Apple gives to these forums, I don't expect there will be a quick response.
I have Leopard 10.5.4 installed, I don't have access to another version of the OS to see if I can get it work. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't there a series of Software Updates recently? I click on these without really checking the apps that are affected; could Aperture have been one of the apps 'revised' by the recent update?

  • When I try to import raw files from my nikon d600 I get the message Unsupported image format, When I try to import raw files from my nikon d600 I get the message Unsupported image format

When I import raw files from my Nikon D600 into Aperture I get a tryangle sign with "unsupported image format"

Latest Adobe DNG converter (7.2) DOES indeed convert NEF pictures coming from a D600.
Head up to Adobe's website and download the app.
You'll only miss the focus information (focus distance and focus sensors used), but you'll be able to work with raw and not rely on jpg only!

  • Has anyone had issues with poor image quality when using lightroom to process raw images from Canon 7dmk2

    Hi everyone..
..I have been having image quality issues when using Lightroom to process raw files from a 7d mk2... They are all soft with poor clarity.....tonight in despair I tried processing them  using  canon's software and they are totally different..."much better"
    anyone else had similar problems....Andy

I have a 7D2 and have not had what I interpret as poor image quality that has anything to do with the camera.
Can you post a screenshot of what you’re seeing and what specifically you don’t like?  Maybe there is something you can do differently or at least there may be an explanation for what you’re seeing.
And if you have a raw image that you wouldn’t mind sharing in a public forum, upload to http://www.dropbox.com/ then post a public share link to it in a reply, here.
In other words post a screenshot of what you see in LR, another of what you see using DPP, and a link to the raw file you’re processing.

  • Elements 6 Freezes with RAW images

I am about at my wits end here.  My computer is about 3 years old, but has all the required minimum's necessary to run Elements.  I've never had a problem with it until recently when I started shooting in RAW.  Elements will show images imported as broken links and will freeze up.  I've done every update possible, have tried repairing elements issues, uninstalled & reinstalled, and am still having issues.
Any ideas as to what could be causing this?
    Thanks.

It sounds like you may have encountered a known bug with how the PSE 6 Organizer handles raw images.  If deleting the Organizer preferences doesn't work, then take a look at this tech note:

This bug is fixed in PSE 7.

  • Adobe Colour Issues with RAW images

    Hi,
I have had Photoshop for a long while now and i have a problem. When looking at RAW images they have a green hue on the shadows (this is when previewing them in Bridge, Photoshop and Camera RAW). This problem seems to be solved by minimizing the window and then making it fullscreen again a few seconds later. How ever after this, if i switch to another image and back the green cast is there in the shadows.
If I print screen it you can see the problems in any other image editor along side a screen show of the "solved" image.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem. I've added in a screen shot for comparrison.
    Thanks
    Mark

P.s. There are much worse images i can upload if people want more clarification or even just to see more of the problem.

You're saying both of these images were captured from the screen of Photoshop before and after doing your workaround?
You likely have a display driver problem if so.  You may want to check the web site of the maker of your video card to see if they offer an update for your hardware and OS.  Caveat:  If you have an ATI card, consider installing older version 11.7 instead of Catalyst 11.8 - I've seen problems with the latter.
Out of curiosity, is your monitor calibrated and profiled?  If not, what color profile do you have associated with it at the OS level?
For that matter, what OS are you running?

  • Photoshop CS2 will not work with RAW images in the Minolta DimAge A2.  It use to work fine

I have used Photoshop CS 2 with my DimAge A2 for over 5 years in the RAW format.  Now it will not work with RAW with my camera.  I am using Vista 64.Any answers ?  Thanks

It would seem to me that you have probably had to reinstall Photoshop CS 2.  If that is the case, then you should download and install Camera Raw 3.7.  The version that was on your install disk was updated several times.  And one of those updates probably included support for your camera.  Install ACR 3.7 and see if that helps.
