Unsupported RAW files in Mavericks from Yosemite ?

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a camera profile from Yosemite and use it in Mavericks ?
I'm specifically looking for the canon 7D mark II profile, which is not available in Mavericks, but is in Yosemite.
(I can't upgrade to Yosemite as my Mac is not supported)

I was hoping there could be some tricky workaround by reusing a profile inside /System/Library/CoreServices/RawCameraSupport.bundle/Contents/Resources/Plungins.zip
but i don't know if they are compatible and what name to look for.

  • PSE 9: Cannot open certain raw files in editor from Organizer.  Can directly tho.

I can open my CR2 (Canon raw for 50D) files from the Elements 9 Editor.   But when I try to save, the "Save as Version Set" is grayed out even tho the photo is in the Organizer.  Conversely, when I try to open a CR2 file from the Organizer, I cannot.  If I drag it to the Editor window, I get message that the file is the wrong type of file - the message one would expect for an unsupported raw file format.
I've been using Elements 9 successfully since October.  This is new behavior in the last week (since I returned from 3 week vacation with 3000 new photos).   I cannot pin this to any newly loaded software (don't have any) nor correlate it to any other event.  Occasionally, the file will open in Camera Raw from the Organizer, but not usually, and then not again for awhile.  I've repaired and compacted.  I uninstalled and reinstalled to no effect.  I applied the 9.0.3 update - again to no effect.  I've rebooted a few times, again with no effect.  I did have PSE7 installed (and have had so for 2 years), but uninstalled that, hoping (vainly) for an effect.
In the process of proofing this post, I did a bit more experimenting.  I find that ALL my 20D Canon Raw files work as they should (open in Camera Raw, etc.).  And, I find that all my 50D Canon Raw files taken before the trip work as they should.  However, the files from ONE DAY ONLY on the trip exhibit this behavior. The only difference is the trip files all were off-loaded to a laptop, then transferred to my desktop (via ethernet, not wireless), the same as all other day's photos.   Subsequent loading directly from compact flash card to my desktop results in being able to edit the files from the Organizer just fine.  I've checked permissions and all users have full permissions.
The laptop and desktop are both Windows 7 (completely current).
I don't really have any ideas.  Any suggestions will be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I think PSE6 will not be able to import/open files from Nikon D7000 as support has been added in recent ACR updates which are not available for PSE8 and below.

  • Workflow for unsupported RAW files

Aperture doesn't recognize RAW images from my Leica D-Lux 2 so I will need to use ACR to convert the files. I'm wondering what other people have set up in terms of workflow for unsupported RAW files. I'm thinking I will have to open in PS, convert, save as TIFF, and then import into Aperture--keeping the original RAW files classified somewhere on my hard drive. Anyone have a better workflow idea?

I myself am in the same boat (unsupported RAW), what I've been doing is saving 16-bit TIFFS from my RAW editor and importing those into Aperture. I just batch convert first and load them in all at once.
When Linear PNG's are supported that is the option I will favor for import I think (until my camera's RAW format is supported, but I think linear RAW will come first).

  • Editing unsupported RAW files.

    Hi there,
Can anyone explain why I am able to edit an unsupported RAW file (DNG from a Ricoh GRD 3 camera) in Aperture 3. If it is not supported I would have expected that Aperture would be unable to read the data let alone process and edit the file.
    Many thanks
    Sean

But Aperture does support DNG's see http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/ under file formats.

    is that the eos 5d?
if so, you only need cr 3.3 or greater.  what version do you have in your cs4? (help>about plugins>camera raw)

  • How can I process raw files in Aperture from a Sony RX1?

How can I process raw files in Aperture from my Sony RX1?

Here is a list of supported cameras
    <http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html>
Your Sony RX1 is not listed. Your best bet would be to use the software, that came with your camera to convert the raw files to tiff and to import the tiff to Aperture. Or to shoot raw+jpeg and to import the pairs and to work with the jpeg versions as original master files, until Aperture supports your camera.

  • Return to Mavericks from Yosemite

Is there any way to return to mavericks from yosemite?  I didn't know aperture 2.1.4 wouldn't be compatible (thanks for making it generally known --AGAIN--Apple). I'd like to go back and retrieve my photos.

Hey Lanny, thanks but I have no clue how to do this.  I've always stuck with apple/mac because I didn't have to be a computer geek to make stuff work.  I have no idea what it means to erase your internal drive from the Recovery partition and reinstall Mavericks.  I don't have a copy of Mavericks; I got it free from Apple.  I have no idea what steps I'd need to do all of this and I'm afraid if I did that I'd lose everything and end up with a useless piece of hardware.

    CS5 issues with Mavericks 10.9.2

Thanks for getting in touch, part of my message was cut off! My problem is when I open up a raw file from desktop into bridge edit the raw image click done sending it back to the desktop as a raw file those changes do not appear on the desktop image. I've tried making an obvious change to an image making it b&w but again that does'nt appear on the desktop image, as mentioned I'm running CS5 with Mavericks 10.9.2.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Problem with itunes after reverting back to mavericks from yosemite

I can't get iTunes to open my library after reverting back to Mavericks from the beta Yosemite. It says "iTunes cannot open this library because it was created with a newer version of iTunes." It then asks if I want to download the latest version and when I click download it takes me to the app store and says that I have the latest version. Which was downloaded when I was running Yosemite. I even downloaded the latest version from the website and it still won't open the library.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your input.
    Bob

I don't know which actual versions you are seeing because I don't have Yosemite.  You're not really supposed  to discuss any issues related to beta test versions on the open forums.  I believe there is an iTunes 12 out in beta which may have been what you were running.  You don't say how you reverted to Mavericks.
The underlying issue is the file called "iTunes Library.itl"  Once you open it with a newer version it can no longer be opened by an earlier version.  However, when you do an upgrade it makes a copy of the older version and you can rename this to make a file which can be opened with the older iTunes. However, this will not reflect any changes made to your library.  Any media added will still be present in the media folder but it will have to be added to the old library.

Beta software testers are advised not to run software on their main computers, and will usually be familiar with how to restore to older versions and the working of computers.  The new public beta with Yosemite is a change in behavior for Apple but of course means a lot of people want to be a tester but don't really know what that means.

  • HT201232 Is it possible to convert to Mavericks from Yosemite without a Mavericks backup?

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and recently downloaded Yosemite. Turns out this was a horrible idea and my computer cannot handle the new software properly. I want to revert back to Mavericks, which was running wonderfully with few issues. I have not done a backup, and just ordered an external hard drive to use Time Machine with. I was wondering if it is possible for me to revert to Mavericks if I only have backups of the current Yosemite files/settings. I am not worried about keeping apps and their data (the most important stuff is in iCloud) but am more focused on my files, which I know I can back up to the external hard drive. I want to know if I can actually revert to Mavericks without killing my computer. I'm a recent college grad and don't have a spare $2500 laying around to spend on a new computer, which would be the ideal fix (it's been slow for a while anyways). Help please!

If you have no TM backup with Mavericks but you updated to Mavericks from say Mountain Lion then go to the app store under purchases and see if it will show Mavericks.  You may be able to download and install.  Be sure to save your files first. You could do an internet recovery (command-option-R) boot and it will install what came with your Mac (e.g. ML) then you can then update to Mavericks from the your purchases it it shows up there.

  • Reverted back to Maverick from Yosemite - extremely slow

I just spent an entire weekend reverting from Yosemite back to the previous operating system. This was the worst upgrade I have ever experienced with Apple. As it was, with Time Machine backup, it worked to restore but I lost files even though. I would like to know when will it be safe to upgrade if ever. I felt like a test-case for Apple.  I should have stayed with my system because it worked great before and very fast. This upgrade is not for everyone and I want to make sure people are warned. Some may experience nothing but good, but for me it was not!!
    my system: MacBook Pro
      Memory: 8 GB
    back to : 10.9.4
processor: 2.2 GHZ intel core 17
symptoms after upgrade to Yosimite: extremely slowness to crawling. Adobe creative software suite upgrades would not install and stalled at 42%
I fixed all that by reverting and using cleaner application from Adobe.

  • Preview has taken over RAW file type binding from Photoshop

Preview v 3.0.4 has taken over as the default program with which to open RAW files. Double-clicking a RAW file in OS 10.3.9 or earlier (?) used to automatically open RAW files into the latest Photoshop version installed (be it 7, CS, CS2).
After purchasing a new Dual 2.7 G5 with Tiger 10.4 or 10.4.4, ALLL RAW ICNS have changed to a PREVIEW.app's icon for RAW images, and RAW files now default to Preview when double-clicked, instead of the Photographer's choice of Photoshop, as it has been for years.
These and other file type bindings (PDF) have been captured by Preview in the new OS.
What is going on? What to do? How do I regain the original file binding of RAW files to an intelligent and professional program (PHTOSHOP CSx), instead of this NEWBIE nearly unusable PREVIEW application?
Simply remove all PREVIEW resources? Then it's usefulness for browsing large numbers of images will be lost.
I simply want PREVIEW to leave my professional digital world alone and let me continue working efficiently.
    Any help? Ideas?
    Thanks a bunch,
    jes360

Simply select one of your crw files, do GetInfo (command-i) on the file and in the Open With section choose Photoshop. Click the Apply to All button. From now on all crw files will open in Photoshop. I suspect the default changed because Preview can now open many many raw files, and not everyone has Photoshop.
