Unsure about my data plan allowance

I got my iPhone 5 this past December. My father is cheap as always and told me I would be receiving a minimal 300 MB of data. We are on the Nationwide Family SharePlan 700 plan and up until now I've been under the impression that I have 300 MB of data. However, I checked on the My Verizon app online and on my phone and it says that I have 2 GB of data. I've always finished the months with around 250 MB of data used and have never received an alert text saying I've gone over 50%, 75%, etc. of my data. Could the service be glitching, or do I actually have 2 GB of data and my father is unaware? This would be very helpful, because I've gone over 300 MB of data this month.
Thanks.

    Hi BTrisc,
Thanks for reaching out to us about your data plan.  I see you have the iPhone 5 that is a great device. Using under 250MB is amazing. I cannot confirm what plan you are on without looking at your account.  If you did check your data on the app and it specified 2GB than this is most likely what you have. Especially, if you have never received the alerts than that would say that you do have 2GB.  Again, I cannot confirm this since I am not looking at your account.  In the meantime, I do recommend using wi fi as much as possible to avoid data overage. I hope this helps.

    Verizon does not use SIM cards. If you wanted to use an iPad 2 with Verizon, you would need to have purchased a Verizon-model iPad.

  • Unsure about using date/time functions

    I'm trying to write a method that inserts tomorrow's date -18 years i.e.( 01/07/1990) if I excecuted the code today, but (02/07/1990) if I were to run the same piece of code tomorrow. I then need to convert the date returned into a string so I can use it in another part of the program. I've checked out the Calendar in the API but not quite sure how to use it to solve this problem. If anyone could show me an example of how to use the Calendar class that would be much appreciated.

    You can you the Date class and Calendar class in combination as given below.
    import java.util.*;
    class DateTest
         public static void main(String args[]) {
              Date now = new Date();  //get current date
              Calendar c = Calendar.getInstance();
              c.setTime(now);
              c.add(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK, 1); //get tommorrow's date
              c.add(Calendar.YEAR, -18);      //subtract 18 years
              Date d = c.getTime();
              System.out.println("Date : " + d.toString());
    }regards

  • What happened to International Unlimited Data Plan for $64.99?

    I am confused about international data plans,
    I get that the $64.99 unlimited international data plan
    is probably gone even if you were able to grandfather in the
    unlimited $29.99 data plan currently.
    I understand that Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, and even Europe
    have $30 to $100 dollar tiered data plans. But how about Asia?
    Specifically I am wondering about JAPAN.
    I was using a global 3G Motorola Droid 2 in January 2011 on
    a unlimited data plan for $64.99 because Japan uses CDMA.
    All I see on Verizon's website is that Japan seems to now
    only be data accessible via a $20/MB pay per MB system
    with any smartphone including an iPhone 4.
    So thats it?!
    The "Occasional Global Traveler" doesn't have any global value plans other than the ones I already can access???
    (I don't want to risk losing the unlimited $30 data plan on my smartphone)
    Theres no option for me to prepay for international data allowance, at ANY price???
    (I'm surprised Verizon doesn't extend the same data allowances in Asia as they do for Europe, Canada, & Mexico now)
    My only other option is to have my phone unlocked to work with international 3G SIM cards from other countries???
    (I get that this is likely a cheaper option anyway than going thru Verizon, but what a hassel)
    4G LTE is the next wireless global standard that Verizon leads the way in, so why limit its potential with 3G???
    (Cutting back on 3G global data roaming capability will only choke 4G adoption around the world, am I wrong?)
    So Verizon wants me to use Wi-Fi when roaming, well Wi-Fi doesn't give me voice calls using my cell number right???
    (Skype, Google Voice, Tango, Gizmo5, and TruPhone are cool but doesn't do what I need, am I asking for too much?)
    I am in need of a non-third party work around solution backed by a reputable company like Verizon please.
    Thank you,
    churabunny

    Yes, that really is the way to go.   It is only a little hassle. Getting it unlocked is easy if you are a Verizon customer (the many complaints on here come from people trying to get it unlocked abroad, which seems to be hard because of a change verizon made).  Then, depending where  you go, you need a local SIM or a regional SIM.  In some places this is very easy, others a little harder.
    But the savings are large.  I did this even before the global plan went away a voice calls are so much cheaper with local SIMs.
    (Using my D2G now in the UK, data and voice work fine with a local SIM, just having a little trouble with Wifi, not sure why!)

  • Can somebody clarify the data plans for me?

    My wife and I are looking to get our first Droids and I have some questions about the data plan.
    Does the 150MB allowance refer only to downloading/uploading or will we be charged for, say, listening to the radio online? Does playing Farmville count towards the allowance? What about GPS? I looked around the Verizon site but can't find any clear explanation of the data plans.
    Thanks!

    Any time you transmit or recieve data on Verizon's network, you will be assessed usage against your 150MB allowance on that plan.  That means that any time you send information to, or download information from the internet, you will be using your allowance.  This includes activities like playing games online (Farmville) and listening to the radio online.  Both of those activities are fairly data intensive, and if you plan to do them more than 1-2 times a month for a short amount of time, you should consider the unlimited data plan.
    GPS does not use data in and of itself, but most programs that utilize GPS, like navigation programs, or apps that help you identify businesses/restaurants/attractions nearby will use data when they download that information.
    If you are online and you are NOT connected to a Wifi network, you are using data.

  • Unlimited Data Plan on USB Modem

    Hello, I'm new to forum and I apologize if this has already been discussed but I haven't seen my particular situation anywhere;
    I have a 3G USB modem on the much talked about unlimited data plan. What I have is a month-by-month unlimited plan which is a completely separate entity from my cellphone contracts. I've had this unlimited plan since 2005. (Interestingly, it doesn't seem to me that my usage is being throttled at all, even with heavy usage.) Has anyone heard any news in particular regardingun those of us who still have an unlimited data USB modem plan? Thank you!

    I'm definitely aware of this. The beauty is, my 3G modem is quite fast; I can stream Netflix, Hulu and Amazon with almost no hits or interruption of playback. Plus, I had the foresight (I hope!) to buy a backup 3G modem of the same model in case mine gives out or breaks. I'm just hoping that in my case, the grandfathering stays in effect; everything I've seen regarding the elimination of the unlimited data option refers to the phone version of the unlimited data plan, but nothing regarding the USB modem version. Thank you, Ann!

  • Data plan!  why???  whats the difference of me using Wifi or being charged for a data plan?

    Feature phones iterally suck, even the internet pro reviews on the phones are very low and most of the feature phones that are  reviewed  the reviewer gives  their  last comment as "don't buy" .
    I do not need a data plan, ( I carry either a Verizon netbook or a notebook for all my internet needs) nor am I comfortable with the charge of a data plan being necessary or is this simply another way for a large company with a large profit margin to stick it to the consumer knowing we have to maintain a cell phone in this day and age?.
    I had settled on the KinTwo, the reviews are not glowing but .... r not that horrible either.  It is also the only phone which gives the owner WiFi accessibility.  (which makes me wonder if this is the reason Verizon has pulled it off the market).  From my extensive research the KinTwo is the only feature phone choice.  But..... When I went back to the site to order it was gone, and the VW stores do not carry it.
    UGH>  I am so discouraged by the data plans and the extremely high price.  Would someone please tell me what the difference is in my using my Netbook, laptop (notebook) on WiFi and not being charged a data fee?  Or why I can bring Wireless Internet into my home and have all my WiFi accessible electronics connect through my main ISP with an additional fee for each WiFi user????   But I am not able to use a Smartphone this way???
    I am serious about these data plans  are they necessary????

    once upon a time verizon did not require data plans
    many users were happy
    but t h is did not last for users started having problems with thier hands
    they would often hit the wrong buttons and use data
    sometims as little as a mb, sometimes many mb
    verizon forums and customer service started recieving phone calls to get credits for this usage
    after all its not the users fault is it? i mean are they responsible if they had the phone to a 2 year old to play with and the kid brings up the browser?
    so verizon decided it was in its best interest to protect its users.  they started requireing data plans so you wouldnt get hit with huge bills for being an idiot.
    So if you wanna cry about data plans blame all those people out there that complained

  • Why should I go to shared data plan ?

           Well, the red devil ******* the pooch this time, the forums are lighting up with news from the 'leak'  about shared data plans. Again CS reps were ignorant of it all and made it all more confusing by not knowing anything about it although it was/is their employers fault for not 'training' them. But I have another theory, OK either Satan (the red one) wants us to know and is just probing us for feedback, OR there's a mole inside who wants us to have a timely 'heads up' to rally a response. Nah, evil is evil, greed is greed, corporate america has neither shame nor conscience so they just wanna know how mad we'll get when we see what they have in store for us. A little time to 'warm up' to the idea of being pillaged. You know, just get use to it and suck it up. That is the 'humane' way . . right ?  Better than an OUTRIGHT sucker punch. Nothing 'leaks' without someone in charge wanting it to leak. I had thought I might consider the shared plan, but DO THEY REALLY THINK WE  WANT TO PAY MORE FOR LESS ?  HELLO . . .CORPORATE IVORY TOWER . . . ANYONE HOME IN THERE ?   Please people,let's stay charged up about this, after all in our busy lives we seem not to notice things until either it's too late OR it hits out bank account. Power to the people . . strength in numbers . . all that populist stuff . . . NO . . SERIOUSLY GET MAD AND GET INVOLVED. WE'RE MAD AS HELL AND WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE !   Lemme hear from you

    lol.  If you say so.  Those supervisors are still clueless.  Call and ask the rep to talk to their supervisor and see if you can keep unlimited data if you pre-order the Galaxy SIII.  I bet you can call 10 times and get 10 different answers.  Problem is that Verizon tells their phone people absolutely nothing.
    And no doubt that the whole thing is a money maker.  After running the numbers it looks like only those already with unlimited talk/text and mostly low data smartphone users will benefit.  The new 8GB Share Everything plan for 4 smartphone users and 8GB of data is about $40/month cheaper than the current unlimited talk/text plans with 4 smartphone users that have 2GB each.  Pretty much everyone else will only break even or actually pay more.

  • Where o where is verizon's unlimited data plan?

    So as I watch the advertising on t.v. I can't help but wonder why Verizon is the only major wirless company without an unlimited plan.  I hated counting minutes on my phone and now I haveto regualrly check my account to make sure the other family members on my line don't exceed their data plan allowances.   Verizon...  what in the heck are you guys doing???  I fear if you don't fix it, I will take my business elsewhere and stop telling people to use your service.  Thank you, and wake up.

    I hate to burst your bubble, but Verizon is NOT the only "major" wireless company without an unlimited data plan.
    AT&T does not have an unlimited plan.
    T-mobile has a "limited" unlimited plan. The speed of your data will be throttled after you reach a threshold of either 2GB, 5GB or 10GB, depending on your plan. If it was truly unlimited, then why the 3 different prices. Unlimited should be unlimited.
    Sprint currently has unlimited on their network, but you will be capped if you roam outside of their network, which from what I understand, is pretty easy to do. I personally haven't had Sprint in 10+ years, so I do not have 1st hand knowledge, though. Additionally, Sprint is currently considering dropping their unlimited plan, so you should hurry over to sign up before it is gone.

  • This isn't a question but rather a warning to anyone using the new OS for iphone 4.  The imessage uses up your data plan like crazy.  I called Apple about it and they said no it's not doing it.  I called AT

    The new OS is burning through my data plan like crazy and here's why.  Imessage uses your data plan and not your texting plan.  So every time you send a text message to someone with an iphone it uses imessage and it uses your data, not your text plan.  I couldn't figure out why I was burning through so much of my data plan so quickly.  I called Apple and they said, no it's not the data plan doing it.  I called AT&T and they said, yes, the imessage uses data instead of your texting plan if you are texting to another iphone.  Also, the new OS runs your apps all the time, even when you aren't using them.  So if you are not near wifi your apps are running and burning your data plan.  The AT&T guy took me through the steps to turn off the apps.  You can still use them but they won't be running constantly.  Seriously Apple, you should let people know this.  It does say it in the fine print on the website "data rates may apply" under imessage but most people will never read this.  So my data plan started on October 10th and it's already at 175 megabytes and I only have a 200 megabyte plan.  I've never used more than 50 to 75 megabytes in a month.  Apple get it together and be honest with people and tell them.  Quit denying the problem.  Most people have probably not even discovered this yet.  Wait till you get your bill.

    kimmie92592 wrote:
    It's not really common knowledge because I've talked to several people today and none of them knew about it.  Also, when I called Apple they said no the new OS is not using data.  Totally wrong answer.  You'd think they'd know about it and at least tell people.  The people who are going to be hit by this are people like me with the 200mb plans.  I just think it's best to spread the word so people can know what's happening.  I still don't know how I went through so much data in such a short period of time.  It's not happening anymore though, not since I fixed everything up last night.
    If you are using a free wifi connection, there are no data charges with iMessage.  But in an area where you did NOT have a wifi connection, of course it used 3G and of course you got charged for it (or had it count against your plan limits).
    I'll ask again - without a wifi connection, just what did you think was happening?  How did you think your iPhone was able to magically send a message WITHOUT using any data connection?  A little bit of rational thought would have made you realize that there was no way, over a 3G connection (which is a service provided by your cellular service provider, NOT Apple), that you can send or receive ANYTHING without your service provider's plan picking it up.
    Nothing abut iMessage has ever hinted that it can, in any way, bypass your service provider when NOT using a wifi connection.

  • Questions about Assumption of Liability and device to be used for unlimited data plan

    This is my first post on here. I have an opportunity that someone I know is willing to transfer his smartphone plan with unlimited data to me. I have read extensively on here and other sites and gathered some information, and also heard of many complications and questionable losses of unlimited data plans when making various types of changes to devices or services. Some of what I read may be outdated as well if Verizon has made changes in their policies, so I will start with the most obvious question: as of this date, is an AOL possible while keeping the unlimited data plan intact?
    If so, here are some other questions I have:
    -Will I receive a new SIM card by mail or do I need to use my friend's old SIM card?
    -If my ultimate end goal is to use laptop, do I have to connect through a smartphone (and is there any additional charge for that, or would it change the plan), or can I put the SIM card in a mobile hotspot such as the MHS291L and use only the data portion of the plan?
    -After getting the plan, is there any way I can get TWO SIM cards - one for a mobile hotspot, and the other strictly for voice and text? If so, how much extra would that cost?
    -If we went to a Verizon store to do this transfer or AOL, how can we be absolutely certain it goes smoothly, that no one makes any unauthorized plan changes and does not lose the unlimited data? I have unfortunately read some horror stories of it being lost in similar situations, no one seems to be accountable, and it winds up costing someone countless hours of struggle with Verizon to try to get it back (whether they are successful or not I don't know).
    -If at some point the SIM card was lost (such as if I lost the device), can it be replaced without affecting the plan?
    For what it's worth (especially for those working for Verizon), I am not looking for a way to hog up absurd amounts of data but simply to be able to do the basic stuff I need to online and maybe watch a movie once in a while without having really huge bills. Even if I used the internet without giving data consumption a second thought, I doubt I'd go much over 25-30GB most months.
    Thanks to whoever can provide me with information.

    Hi NicandroN_VZW, sorry i did not see your reply in time but thank you just the same. I called the number for the AOL department and they were able to help me with it pretty easily and answer most of my questions
    I do have a couple other questions regarding the unlimited data plan on smartphones. I have seen various comments regarding these things online, and i can make a good guess about what "might work," but i'm really looking to know Verizon's official policy on these things, if one exists. In case any non-verizon employees are able to provide this information as well, if you have references to where i can find it in writing that would be helpful.
    First, i realize there is an optional $30 fee for mobile hotspot use. But does Verizon have any policy about whether this fee must be paid if i connect only via a USB cable (since it would not actually be a "hotspot," and could not connect multiple devices)?
    And my other question is, if i do opt to pay the $30 hotspot fee, is there any policy either for or against using that SIM card in a 4g hotspot such as the MHS291L?
    PS i am asking these things here rather than by PM because, given the wide range of opinions which can be found online and that others have looked into similar things, i am sure other people could also benefit from knowing Verizon's policy regarding these things.

    Hi,
    I presume you deleted the original files as match would not have done so. Do you have a back up. If so, restore your music from that. If not, your will have lost all your music as this needed to be on your hard drive when you unsubscribed.

    The problem is that they do not have any smartphone so I can't use any peer to peer system or Apps like Skype, Fringe, Viber etc etc.
    I am looking for the names of an Apps which i can use to call from India to USA but In USA my friend don't have smartphone so I can be able to make a call on cellphone in USA without any data plan.
    Please give me the names of those kind of Apps...
    Thanks in Advance..
    Thanks
    Hemu7310

    Assuming you have an Internet connection of some sort from your iPhone, you should be able to use any Voice-Over-IP service, such as the ones you mention. Skype, at least, allows calls to standard telephones, but such calls are not free. You will need to consult the services' pricing to know what it will cost.
    Regards.

    If I'm in Mexico and skyping with someone in the US, will it go against my data plan? What about text messaging?

    Unless you are connected to an available wi-fi network when Skyping, when doing so via a carrier's cellular network goes against your data plan. The same when using any app that requires internet access.
    SMS is exchanged over the same network as calls, so no data usage with SMS.
    MMS is exchanged over the carrier's cellular data or internet network so MMS goes against your data plan.
    The same when exchanging iMessages unless your are connected to an available wi-fi network when doing so.

Each time technical people and top managers promised that this issue will be resolve tomorrow and they will cal me. Nothing happend!! I can not even cancel my service not just to upgrade it. Completely locked.
    Any advice?
    Thanks.
    Alex.

    Cannot figure out what your talking about since it makes no sense.
    If you are the account owner you can go to the My Verizon web portal http://www.verizonwireless.com
    You must log in with your cell number and your my Verizon portal password. Not the account pin.
    Once there you can change your plan and services. However repeated incorrect login attempts will lock you out of the site. It a fraud prevention measure.
    1-800-922-0204 call support with your cell number and or account number and account pin and they can assist you.
    If you don't have the information then there is nothing they can do.
    If you can verify who you are they may be able to reset your account access. But only if you are the account owner.
    Good Luck
